Slideshows in Front Row Wrong

When I preview a slideshow in iPhoto, it does what I want, including Ken Burns effects set for each slide and a particular song out of iTunes. When I play the same slideshow in Front Row, it plays the wrong music and wrong Ken Burns effects. How do I get Front Row to play slideshow same as in iPhoto?

Update - My fault. I was selecting the photo albums in Front Row, not the slideshows. Duhh. The slideshows work correctly. Forget all this.

  • Can't play music from shared slideshow using Front Row (or iPhoto)

Can anyone play a shared slideshow and have the music from that shared slideshow play in Front Row?
I can't get the sound to come through either in iPhoto or Front Row.
It seems to me that you should be able to do this.
    1. We can play shared music.
    2. We can play shared photos and slideshows
    3. But I can't play shared slideshows with the selected music from that shared slideshow..........
    Anyone.... ?
I don't think this is possible at this time but would like to know for sure if anyone else can do this?

    Heya Joseph,
Yes you can play shared music in front row.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1655.html
Now as far as a slideshow I would think so as well as the authorization for that music comes from iTunes to iPhoto.
    Heya Justin,
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
    ~/library/caches
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist
    - Open iPhoto - then quit
    - Open iTunes - then quit
    - Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
    - Restart your computer again
    - Test and see how its working
    Hope that helps!

  • IPhoto Slideshow music settings/Front Row

I recently purchase a Mac Mini to use as a media center PC. I have imported photo's into iPhoto and configured slide shows with appropriate music ... in iPhoto all these settings work fine. When I access these photo's via Front Row
however, each of the slide shows plays with Minuet in G and my iPhoto music settings are ignored. any thoughts would be most welcome on how to have my iPhoto slide show music recognized with Front Row.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well I may have found my answer ... If I run slideshows in Front Row from
Photos/Events I have the Minuet in G problem ... if I create albums in iPhoto and run the Event from within an album, the music selected in this album slideshow holds in Front Row ... at any rate it works for me!

  • Front Row Won't Play Slideshow Music (iTunes)

I created a slideshow in iPhoto and selected an iTunes playlist as my music source. When I play the slideshow from Front Row the music does not play. However, if I play a photo event from Front Row the default music does play. Why won't my slideshow play the music?
    Please advise.

Front Row in Mac OS X 10.5.x has been broken the whole time. It used to work fine in Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger). Front Row will not play an iTunes playlist during a slideshow if the playlist contains more than one song. You can use a playlist that only has one song in it, but then you might as well just choose a single song instead of a playlist! I would suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
For what it's worth, iPhoto seems to work fine with slideshows and iTunes playlists with more than one song.

  • Front Row slideshows and purchased music

When i create a slideshow in Iphoto and add music to it from a purchased song/protected song it plays the slideshow in Iphoto with the music. However if I then try to play the slideshow from Front Row it will play the slideshow but without the music. If I substitute the song with a non purchased song it plays fine from front row. Is there a problem playing slideshows from Front Row using a Purchased Song as the background music?

I had the exact same problem before but I fixed my problem through iphoto and it worked on my front row photo gallery; all you have to do is open iphoto, click the play button (at the bottom left corner), you will find a slideshow window, select the music tab at the top, choose sample music or itunes (your music library) or garageband, choose a track and click *_save settings_* to make the background music work in front row. Please try my experience and good luck.
    Cheers.

  • Sharing iTunes and then using Front Row

I have been downloading all the album artwork just like everyone else is, now that iTunes 7 is out.
I have run across a small problem and a fix I would like to pass along for people having problems viewing the album artwork on a computer that is sharing the iTunes from another computer and then using Front Row.
First off, the artwork for me seems to work fine on all individual computers that have the songs and the album artwork on it.
When I shared my 'master or main' computer iTunes with my Mini Mac Intel, I then played the music using Front Row but the majority of the album covers would not show up.
For some reason only a few of the album covers were showing up in Front Row on the shared computer. It took me quite awhile to figure out that the only album covers that were showing up were the album covers that I dragged and copied onto the main computers iTunes album window.
I don't know if anyone has found anything easier to fix this problem but I went ahead a copied all of the album artwork, one by one, on the main computer into the iTunes artwork window. Now, all the computers that access the main computer via sharing, shows the album artwork when using Front Row.
I hope I explained this clear enough.
Here is a photo of my Mac Mini hooked up to my TV, playing Front Row and using the shared iTunes Library from my main computer which is an iMac G5.
    http://users.sisqtel.net/jkriz/MacMini/frontrow_albumcovers.jpg
I needed to use the flash for this photo because it was getting dark but I think you get the idea.
I know I could have put all my music on the Mini Mac or any of my other computers and I wouldn't have had to go through all of this... but then I would have trouble keeping all of my computers music up to date. This way, I only have to keep the main computer up to date with all of my music. Much easier.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
I hope the rest of you can benefit from this tip.
iMac 17 (Intel), iMac G5 (Rev B), Mac Mini (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Bizmarck,
    Well, this is interesting.
When I first read your question I said to myself, of course I can play the shared slideshow along with the selected shared music.....
Well, I'm glad I tried it out first before I posted this as I cannot play the selected songs on the shared slideshow. All I could play was the Minuet in "G"....
I could have sworn I used to be able to do this with 10.4.7 and Front Row 1.2
    However, I could be wrong.
    I have tried everything.
I have the Serving computers iTunes and iPhoto open and to allow sharing of both.
On the Mac Mini which is playing the shared items from the serving computer, I can turn off the music but I cannot select a song from the shared library in iPhoto. All the library shows for music selection on the Mac Mini is the music that is on the Mac Mini.
Apparently Apple has more work to do if this is going to work.
It is interesting to me that we cannot play a shared slideshow along with the shared music that was selected with that slideshow.
If the selected song from the shared slideshow is already on the Mac Mini, then I can choose it, but I cannot choose any other songs unless they are on the Mac Mini.....
It seems that Front Row will not play the selected shared song from the shared slideshow. Front Row only wants to play the songs that are on the Mac Mini for any of the shared slideshows... BUMMER.......
If you open iPhoto (not Front Row) on the Mac Mini, then select a shared slideshow, then click on the 'Play' button. You will see that Minuet in "G" is selected to play on that shared slideshow. I turned all of mine OFF for the time being as I am tired of the sample music also.
If I come up with anything new I will post it here.
    Thanks for sharing this information.

  • Descriptions of Iphoto are not appearing in Front Row

I have several slideshows of photos in Iphoto. Those slideshow contains descriptions for certain photos.
When playing those slideshows via Front Row, the descriptions are not appearing.
Further, only the first track of music linked to those slideshows is playing and repeating its own, instead of going over to the 2nd and 3nd music partition.
Any idee how to solve those problems? Will Front row on the apple Tv or on the Mac mini show the same ?
    Many thanks.

First of all many thanks for your help.
In Iphoto, below on the left of the window, when you select an album, you see the title, the date and hour, the Key word, the type and size of the selected photo in the album. Below that is the 'description' that you can enter. This description is displayed in Iphoto when playing the photo show. This description is also transferred to Idvd, what means that it is possible to burn a Dvd to be watched on your Tv. Synchronizing the same album with the Ipod transfers the photos but not the description. And, in my opinion, there is no way to do it. Exporting the album gives the possibility to select the title and the key-word of the photo, but not the description. I tried this out, and unfortunately it is not working (only the title is transferred). Exporting the same album to as Web Page gives the possibility to select the description for export.
As I am eventually interested in the acquisition of a Apple Tv or a Mac Mini as Media center, I tried on my Imac to use Front Row in order to be sure that the 'description' of my photos will show on Tv as it is the case via a Dvd.
And in fact, the 'description' is not taken into account by Front row.
I hope that this long story is clear enough and that somebody has a solution.
    Thanks

  • Front Row 2 - Why a standalone application?

Perhaps this thread can consolidate some of the various other complaints against Front Row 2 that seem to stem from the same issue that I, at least, perceive as being a big part of the problem: that FR2 is a standalone application in Leopard rather than a front-end interface for media-handling applications in the background, as it was in Tiger.
So I'm just curious and would like to hear from those who may be more "in the know" why Apple made this move? Why is Front Row "better" as a standalone application? When in Front Row in Tiger, if you watched a movie, QuickTime would be handling it in the background. If you listened to music, it was iTunes that was handling it. If you watched a slideshow, iPhoto was responsible. If you were watching a DVD, DVD Player was doing the work. In Leopard, however, Front Row handles all these media files/types by itself, and I've only seen that as a negative so far.
For example: in Tiger, a custom slideshow I had created in iPhoto would be displayed exactly as I had specified (including custom timings, photo framing, etc.) when viewing that slideshow in Front Row. In Leopard, not all those settings are carried over and the slideshow doesn't display as I've set it up (although it continues to display perfectly in iPhoto). In Tiger, all my album artwork in iTunes was displayed correctly in Front Row. In Leopard, the artwork of several albums will not display even though the album art is visible in iTunes (and via CoverFlow and QuickLook in Finder). And, of course, there's the issue that many report that music playing in FR2 will stop if FR2 is exited, or even when you just exit the music section of FR2. Why the disconnect? By having Front Row be a standalone application, it just opens the door for issues where the files/media isn't being correctly handed over from its proper application to what we see in Front Row.
While I do mostly love the new interface of Front Row (although I miss the desktop fading into the background effect upon launch of FR2), I've seen it take a pretty significant performance hit. Some HD movie trailers that played flawlessly in Front Row on Tiger are sluggish and choppy on FR2 on the same hardware. These same trailers play just fine by themselves in QuickTime, however. Tiger's Front Row properly showed previews for all my slideshows and movies almost instantly, while FR2 takes quite awhile to create previews for everything - and isn't able to create previews at all for some files (Apple's own HD movie trailers, for example).
Since FR2 is trying to handle all the media and filetypes by itself, rather than handing off the tasks to the proper applications in the background that can handle them more efficiently, it seems to become a bloated system hog. After spending about 15 minutes in FR2 going through various media, I noticed it seemed to slow down more and more. I exited to check Activity Monitor, and even though Front Row wasn't even running anymore, it was using almost 1GB of RAM. Evidently, all those previews it has to create (starting over each time you get into FR2, I might add) really start to take a toll over time with heavy use. For someone with a HTPC-Mac who wasn't accustomed to ever having to exit Front Row in Tiger - much less actually restart the machine because of it - it seems like a horrible step backwards.
So again, I'm hoping someone can offer some insights into why Front Row was changed to a standalone application instead of being further enhanced as a front-end UI for the proper media applications running in the background. I understand why they wanted to change the interface to be AppleTV-like, but I don't understand the loss of features and the backwards step in performance.

That's a benefit to the PPC users, of course, but I can't imagine that was a major influence on Apple's decision to do it. Would they really remove features and hinder overall performance just to cater to old hardware? That doesn't seem very Apple-like. Nor does it make much sense to handicap Front Row for everyone who does have a capable Intel Mac just so others can run it on old PPC machines (which likely can't get the best performance out of Front Row anyway, given the way it gobbles up system resources by bearing the burden of dealing with so many forms of media/files by itself all at once).
Maybe the bigger picture - which is harder to see now only a few days after the launch of Leopard - involves better long-term development of Front Row features that will be easier to implement with it being a standalone application rather than a front-end UI. So while it will be great when/if the performance is improved and new features are added, it's little consolation to those who upgraded to Leopard (and I do love most of the rest of 10.5, really) but think we took a major step back with Front Row.
Front Row isn't a big deal to those who use it infrequently, but for those who were somewhat dependent on it as a vital component of HTPC, these "little" issues add up and are pretty frustrating.

  • Front Row 2.0 and video files stored in iPhoto Library

When i play a photo slideshow in front row 2.0 (don't remember how it was under frant row 1.0), the videos imported besides still pictures in my iPhoto library aren't played, and not even showed as low res thumbnails (as it does when playing a slideshow from iPhoto ; well, i'm not so sure now i write it). Instead, you only have a black screen as long as the duration of the movie !
Would be nice if Front Row could play movie files imported in the iPhoto Library ... or, at least, skip them !
At the present time, i will be forced to remove movie files from my iPhoto and export them to my videos folder... (one more operation to execute manually when importing photos from my p&s camera via iphoto)

Organizing related files with Smart Folders
This also applies for 10.5 Leopard.
If you open Automator (Applications) and choose Library >> Files and folders >> Find Finder items and draw it to the right side of the window. Now you can search the whole computer or just your user folder for example (from the drop down menu). Then you can make further adjustments like find .avi (look at the image)
    http://personal.inet.fi/koti/kimi/automator_alias.png
Then you draw the new aliases to the window and choose what folder it saves the aliases too, in my case my Movies-folder (Elokuvat is Movies in finnish). After that you press Run and it saves the aliases. Easy!
The original files are still located inside the iPhoto Library and the Movies-folder just contains the aliases.

  • Ugh. help me if you can!  Proplem w/  front-row.  no music on slideshow

forgive me if this is a small problem that I should be able to resolve on my own.
When using Front Row to access a slideshow, the music that I added to the show doesn't play! Yet, when I launch the show from iPhoto, it plays. This happens on only one particular slideshow. ..I did delete the "plist" for iPhoto, but this didn't fix it (this was a sort of "fix all" tip that I found using the help menu.)
Any suggestions? Front Row is pretty cool - I'd hate to not be able to use it.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, thank you, i realised that headphones with noise canceling are something i must get....but, i cant belive that the same headphones with touch and nano produce such dramatic different experience...i can hardly belive that nano has better what..sound procesor, amplifier than touch...it shouldent be that way.
i am thinking it must have something to do with ..say latest regulations regarding volume imput in some countries or what, and i thought that it must be the program that cansels it..or so..since i have wireless on this thing.

  • Front Row 2.0; no music during slideshow?

Would I be right in thinking that Front Row 2.0 has removed the option of playing iTunes Music whilst viewing an iPhoto slide show?

So I just have the same problem? Is thier anyone who has emailed Apple to see if they know how to fix this?
I play a slideshow in iPhoto and all the iTunes that I have CHECKED and are in that playlist will play.
However - in Front Row the same slide show that I created in iPhoto will not play any music. For some reason it used to play only ONE of the songs - which was the 1st song in the play list - and then it would repeat it. So me being me.. stubborn..I kept trying to get it to play all the songs in the playlist (by friggin with iTunes setting and iPhoto settings) and NOW I have no music what-so-ever, not even the sample music.
Any one have any ideas? This really bugs me, and yep - I know that I can simply play the show in iPhoto - but man it is nice to use that remote and have things simply work..
    Anyone?
    Thanks!

  • Front Row: no Audio in slideshows?

I made a slideshow in iPhoto and connected it with some music.
    It worked fine in iPhoto.
Using Front Row I couldn't present the show, because there was no sound!
Support told me that in the new Front Row of Leopard sound is not supported for slideshows!!???
    Can that be true?
Did someone make the same experience?
Is it possible to get the old Front Row back?

Nonsense, no problem here with the sound of a slideshow
I don't know about the people employed for support any more. Somebody else on this forum was told some similar fib by this so-called support. He was told that his Powerbook couldn't read dual-layer DVD's, which is absolute nonsense, as is your answer about Front Rows sound.
Is this Apple support you are talking about?

  • Slideshows are Choppy in Front Row

Hi all, thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
I can view slideshows smoothly when played directly from iphoto. However, when I view the same slideshow from within Front Row, there is a slow down when transitioning from one image to the next. This means the show gets out of sync with the music. I use the slideshows for my business, so this is unacceptable.
I'm fairly certain that this started happening with I upgraded to from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
Any ideas on what I could try to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you also inquired over in the Front Row forum? Your situation hasn't been discussed before here as far as I can tell.
Try clearing out iPhoto's cache folder, User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto, and rebuild the library's database, backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
See if that makes any difference.
If the slideshows are critical you might want to consider creating them as QT movies so the music stays in sync and playing the movies in Front Row.

  • Front Row, slideshow & music

While using Front Row to play a slideshow, the same song always plays. I can't find any way to set the music to the slideshow. Can anyone help on this problem?

    Hi Ray,
In iPhoto, click on slide show. On the bottom bar you´ll see an icon for iTunes which lets you set the music.

  • Front Row Slideshow Music Problem

    Hello:
I have been unable to change the Photo Slideshow music in Front Row. I go into iPhoto, select SlideShow and select my music, but it does not seem to save it to Front Row. I've even tried making my selections as "default" but it doesn't work.
I've tried repairing permissions on my disk, and there do seem to be problems with Front Row. However, no matter how many times I repair, the permissions still persist. Log file below
Can anyone offer any tips to a newbie (recently switched from a PC.)
    Thanks,
