Slight brightening of screen before new credits and scene transitions -- Blu Ray Export

Hey friends ---
I have an annoying problem and is one of those things that isn't 'glaring' which makes it difficult to find a straight, easy answer to.
After exporting my premiere pro cs5 timeline to bluray mpeg2 and authoring/burning it through encore, I am noticing a VERY annoying 'flicker' or 'brightening' of the black screen right before a new opening credit and even after scene transitions during playback of the final burned bluray disc. It's as if the screen brightens slightly one frame before the new credit or during the first frame of a new shot. Very annoying, and yes, it is subtle but it is very strange -- and whats worse is that it's not consistent. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't!
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
My source footage is from a canon 7d, 1920 x 1080p -- film shot at 24 fps. I am burning on BD-R bluray discs and am using my Playstation 3 for playback.
I've attached my bluray exporting settings --- maybe someone knows what's happening here and can help out ?
Thank you very much !!
Sincerely,
-Mark

It's probably your TV. Dynamic contrast features on television are usually the culprit. If you can find and disable the setting for "dynamic contrast" (or something similarly worded) then check it again, that should solve it.
Dynamic contrast isn't terrible when it's implemented more subtley. Larger and more expensive HDTVs usually handle it well. Smaller HDTVs (36" and under, usually 720p sets) are surprisingly bad at this.
It's not a bad thing...it can bring out details in dark scenes and handle highlights better in bright scenes. Generally speaking, the HDTV uses this function to compensate for the shortcomings of the LED/LCD/Plasma screen.
However, if you want constant contrast (to see a movie exactly with the sort of contrast intended by the director, and avoid possible artifacts) then you turn this setting off on your HDTV.
Keep in mind, this isn't something you can control for the end user. It's a hardware setting on HDTVs and is pretty universal (which is why you see things like "1,000,000,0000:1 contrast ratio!!!!!!")
If that doesn't turn out to be your issue, then hopefully someone else can shed some light on it. My bet says this is the problem.

  • Trouble with FCP 7 and Share (for Blu-Ray)

I've done a bunch of reading in this forum this morning and I see that pretty much everyone agrees NOT to use the Share option within FCP7 for burning a blu-ray.  But I haven't come up with an exact answer as to why.  Until now I've actually had good success with this, although I have not compared it directly with a BD created in Compressor or Toast 10
That would be great to know, but more importantly for now here is my question:
I wanted to burn a BD from FCP7 using Share.  The project is 1 hour in length and the export took 5 hours.  When it got to the point of burning the BD it gave me an error message saying that the Blu-ray drive was in use by another program.  My only option was to cancel the burn, and thus start all over again!!
However, checking the scratch discs it appears that the video and audio files were created. So the root of my question is... what can I do with those created files now?  Can I put them into Compressor?  How can I burn a BD from those files without having to go through the 5 hour export again?
    Thank you very much!!

Hi Eric, here is a response a I just posted for someone else...
How odd that the BluRay disc using share will not play... I've used Share before successfully, except since I don't have a blu ray burner, I burned a AVCHD disc (which only plays on a BluRay Player).
Perhaps you took a wrong turn somewhere... What were your EXACT steps?
Do you have Toast? That may be another solution... Follow this thread on Creative Cow for that: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/20/861769

  • Compressor stops at 6:24 and wont burn Blu-Ray

    Hello,
Using Compressor 3.5.3 on an Imac pro. Im creating a blu-Ray disc as I have done 100 times before. Now the compressor process stops at 6:24 remaing and wont go any further. Ive tried re exporting the movie from FCP 7, different hard drives. I thought it might be my burner, but that works fine. So if any one can elp me get further than 6:24 remaining I would appreciate it
    Thanks Mike G

Trying to narrow possibilities. And so much for the corrupt project/clip theory. It sounds like it's not getting to the job action stage…that it's hanging while still in the encode process…correct? In which case it's probably not going to make  any difference whether you set the output device to HD or your burner…but as a long shot you might try that on a short segment.
In addition to David's excellent suggetion to try Digital Rebellion's repair tool, have you seen these troubleshooting steps from Apple? The escalate in degrees of severity up to the point of reinstall. Prior to the stage of trashing preferences, I'd first do a simple reset of background processing (under the Compressor drop down menu) to see whether that cured it.
    Good luck.

  • Exporting an Apple ProRes before compressing for SD-DVD or Blu-ray (or AVCH

    Hello,
    this is my question:
does exporting a sequence to an Apple ProRes Self Contained file helps to gain quality when compressing for SD-DVD or Blu-ray (or AVCH disc)?

    Thanks for answering, Tom.
Let me try again, though. (Also, just thinking about the footage, forgetting about effects, titles, etc.)
Do you think that this applies to DV-NTSC and HDV sequences?
I've compared a DV-NTSC sequence exported out using:
DV-NTSC compression and one -using Apple ProRes.
They do look different. Wouldn't you agree to this?
    What about HDV,
    - is it erroneous to think that (when capturing) by transcoding to AIC or ProRes you are gaining some quality?
    - or if you already capture HDV natively, it doesn't make a difference to export an ApplePro Res version to make a SD-DVD from?
I am concerned with this, because I shot once some HDV footage at night with a Sony Camera, going to a hard drive, and when I transcoded the files from the hard drive to use in FCP, (using MPEG streamclip) I noticed a relevant difference in how much the noise was noticeable on the HDV compressed files vs. the apple ProRes compressed files.
Have you ever seen these differences?
    Thanks!!!

  • Authoring and codec for Blue Ray

    Hi,
We must deliver a Blue Ray DVD in a few months.
Everything has been edited in 1920X1080 23.98 p.
    1) Can we compress the program in MPEG-2 like SD-DVD ?
    2) Can we make the authoring in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 ?
    thanks

    Antoine,
BR authoring on the Mac isn't really possible yet. PP CS3 does include Encore which will do a very limited-author for BR but it's not the full specification.
If you absolutely must author in BR and don't want to spend 100k for Sonic Scenarist (and the required hardware) there might be one way to do it effectively - but nobody has tested this yet, so you'll be on the bleeding edge of experimentation...
You could use BootCamp with Leopard and install an XP partition; purchase Roxio's DVDit Pro HD and do your authoring on the PC side. See this website:
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/dvdit/hd/overview.html
You'll have to experiment a bit with output from Compressor to provide a file that the Roxio app will like, but it might just work.
If that's not an option, then you'll have to take your project to an HD authoring facility and pay anywhere from $5-$15k to have it properly BR authored.

  • New internet connective TV'sand blue ray

    Hi,
I am looking at buying my first HCTV.  I will also need to buy a Blue Ray player (I think) because my old DVD player is very old.  Since Blue Ray players connect to the internet, why should one consider paying for a TV with internet connectivity.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share.

It is only worth paying for a TV with Internet connectivity if the Internet connectivity offers a feature/capability that is not offered by the Blu-Ray player.  Netflix support is extremely common/almost universal now in new devices, but other services may be present in only some devices.

  • Clips hang up and repeat on Blu-ray disc with multiple clips

I have developed a DVD for background videos at my office.
It has 44 clips on it.
    Only a few will play.
I have tried it on 4 different BluRay DVD players = same result.
I have burned the project 5 times = same result.
    Why does it stick?
Using the fastforward button on the remote controll shows all clips are there.
Sometimes it will play 8 or 10 clips before sticking.
Then it repeats the same 2 clips forever.
    Please help me.

    Rob,
Could not find the screen-caps. If they are JPEG or PNG, just use the little "camera" icon in the editing page to "attach" them, or post a URL for others to view them from a server. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on screen-caps.
Thank you for the info, and the description of what you wish to have happen.
Now, what are the End Actions for each Timeline? If I understand what you want, the End Action for each Timeline should be to the next, and for the final Timeline, back to the beginning of Timeline 1. That will create the "looping."
Check carefully for any Overrides, and make sure that each is set to "Not Set."
    Good luck,

  • Can DVDSP AUTHOR AND BURN a Blu-ray disk?

I am confused. I have read 14,102 posts on this subject and I am no more knowledgeable on this subject than before I started. The date right now is Sept. 7, 2009. The posts I read start at the current date and very quickly go back to Jan, 1 1945. I need CURRENT INFORMATION. I am under the impression from talking to the people at the MAC stores that I CAN author and burn a BD disk JUST like a DVD disk. I dont want a 10,000 step solution with 45 different pieces of software.
I want to use FCP and DVDSP. Is this possible at the date of Sept 7, 2009?
(dont look at the profile, I will upgrade to whatever is needed, MAC , that is)
    Thanks

  • Media Coder Failing with MPEG2-DVD and H.264 Blu-Ray Encode

I am useing Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 8.0.0.173 build.
    I am a CC subscriber.
I am importing a Premiere Pro CC 2014 timeline.
I also have Premiere Pro CS6, Photoshop CC and CS6, Encore CS6, Lightroom 5, Indesign CC and CS6 installed.  Just updated all apps from the cloud.
When exporting the timeline to MPEG2-DVD I get the failed status.
In the text note section this is the result: MXF decode error in "J:\Murray-Gross Wedding\CLIPS001\AA0068\AA006802.MXF" at frame 16339. Frame 16316 was substituted.
    I had several frames substituted.
I tried both the Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration and I also tried the software only version.
    The original footage is;
    MXF File details:
Wrapper type: MXF OP1a (type: SingleItem SinglePackage MultiTrack Stream Internal)
    File generated by: CANON, XF100
    MPEG-2 422 Long-GOP
I was able to export the timeline to an avi file from Pro CC 2014.  But P Pro told me that the export had failed.  When I checked the folder though the avi file was there.
I am running Windows 7 home premium.
I need to make a DVD of this footage.  And would prefer not to reformat the avi file I created.  Thanks in advance.

Do you get encode complete with Errors or are you getting encode failed (no encoded file)?  The reason frames were substituted is because the source file had errors or other problems.  So during import, PPro and AME substitute bad frame with adjacent good frame and continue to import.  But if there are way too many bad errors and source is too corrupted, it may not be able to import it correctly and won't be able to export.  so let us know if you get exported file and you are just curious what the error message was or if you don't get encoded files going to MPEG2-DVD at all.

  • WRT600N(V1.0) and LG BD390 Blu-Ray player...

For some reason the LG BD390 is not seeing both access points to the WRT600N. It is only seeing whatever the FIRST one is set to. So if I set the top one to G, it will see it as G and if I set it to N, it will see it as N and will connect fine. However, setting the first as G and the second to N(which is the only possibility), the LG BD390 fails to see the N Access Point. Even turning OFF the first(G) access Point and only running the 2nd, the BD390 still won't see it. It only sees the first.
Obviously this seems to be an issue with the LG BD390, as nothing else I have, has this issue(I have submitted it to LG), but my question is, is there any way to run N as the first Access Point and G as the sesond? I don't have the option to set the second access point to G, only N or A.
Beyond that, is there any potential router setting(s) that I could try, that may allow the LG to see the 2nd access point?
    Thanx

  • Planes, Trains, and Automobiles on Blu Ray? Anyone knows when it will be back in stock?

I never got a chance to pic up Planes, Trains, and Automobiles when it hit Best Buy stores and since it sold out, its been on backorder ever since. Anyone have a clue as to when the movie might be back in stock? The website says usually in stock 1-2 weeks, but as I've said its been on backorder forever it seems.
    Solved!

Really? So Best Buy doesnt have a good inventory system?
I find it odd that they cant find out an approx. date of having them back in stock since amazon, walmart, target, etc. all know when they are on order, how much are on order, and approx when they will arrive. Heck even amazon posts "back in stock on such and such date" on most movies that run out. I even called my local Best Buy store and they had no clue which is why I just ended up going to ebay.

  • HP MediaSmart DVD software and major Blu-ray issues

In September 2010, I bought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer (running Windows 7). This computer was advertised as having a Blu-ray DVD player, as well as players for regular DVDs and CDs. From September 2010 to October 2014, I successfully played regular DVDs and CDs. But in October 2014, for the first time, I needed to view a Blu-ray DVD. Specifically, I needed to view the "Divergent" Blu-ray.
When I tried to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray (which was made in 2014), the HP MediaSmart DVD software (version 3.1.1.3317) and the Windows Media Player detected the Blu-ray but were not able to play the Blu-ray.
Next, I downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html. This Codec Pack was supposed to help Windows Media Player play the Blu-ray. That did not work.
I then downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD 14, which played the Blu-ray for only about 7 seconds before crashing.
I downloaded TotalMedia Theatre version 6.0.1.123. However, this software did not even detect the Blu-ray.
Recently, I decided to revisit this issue. I installed the most advanced version of HP MediaSmart DVD. I installed HP TouchSmart DVD, version 4.1.2.5122.
TouchSmart flawlessly played disk 1 of the 2-disk "Star Trek" Blu-ray set (made in 2009). However, TouchSmart was not able to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray at all. After failing to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray, TouchSmart attempted to play disk 2 of the "Star Trek" Blu-ray set. TouchSmart played disk 2 with poor video.
Next, for some strange reason, TouchSmart became totally inaccessible. I could not start TouchSmart. I rebooted the computer. TouchSmart was then able to play the "Divergent" regular DVD, but was unable to play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays at all.
I did a system restore to the point just after the installation of TouchSmart. TouchSmart played regular DVDs well, but still could not play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays at all.
Next, I got rid of TouchSmart and installed HP MediaSmart DVD, version 4.1.4229 (sp49489.exe). MediaSmart 4.1.4229 flawlessly played the "Speed" Blu-ray (made in 2006). However, MediaSmart 4.1.4229 failed to play either of the "Star Trek" Blu-rays. And after failing to play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays, MediaSmart 4.1.4229 played "Speed" with poor video.
So, it appears that any specific version of HP MediaSmart DVD software will play old Blu-rays successfully, and will then subsequently fail to play more advanced, more recent Blu-rays. After that version fails to play the more advanced Blu-rays, that version will play the old Blu-rays, not as flawlessly as before, but rather with poor video quality or not at all.
I have read many threads on the HP forums and on other forums about people having trouble playing Blu-ray DVDs on a wide variety of HP computers. I went back to the specifications of my HP computer, and I found the following disclaimer about that computer's Blu-ray capabilities:
As Blu-Ray is a new format containing new technologies, certain disc, digital connection, compatibility and/or performance issues may arise, and do not constitute defects in the product. Flawless playback on all systems is not guaranteed. In order for some Blu-ray titles to play, they may require a DVI or HDMI digital connection and your display may require HDCP support. HD-DVD movies cannot be played on this Desktop PC. Some HD DVD and Blu-ray advanced features may not be supported. CPU power is dedicated to support HD DVD and Blu-ray playback functions. It is recommended that you close all other applications before and during HD DVD and Blu-ray playback. HD DVD and Blu-ray movies will only play through the HD DVD and Blu-ray player software. Advanced Access Content System (AACS) keys are integrated into your PC for copy protection purposes. Occasional renewal of the AACS key is required, and easily done by connecting to the internet.
I believe that I have gone way above and beyond ordinary diligence, to try to get my computer to play Blu-ray DVDs. The disclaimer states that certain issues may arise and that flawless Blu-ray playback is not guaranteed for all systems. But certainly my frustrating experiences, and the frustrating experiences of others, go way beyond the leeway given by HP's disclaimer, do they not? Has anyone thought about the possibility of a class-action lawsuit against HP?

In "Device Manager", under "DVD/CD-ROM drives", I see the following:
    hp BDDVDRW CH20L
I click on "hp BDDVDRW CH20L", and I see several tabs.
In the tab marked "Driver", we have the following:
    Driver Provider:   Microsoft
    Driver Date:           6/21/2006
    Driver Version:     6.1.7601.17514
    Digital Signer:      Microsoft Windows
In that same tab, clicking on "Driver Details" gives us the following:
    Driver files:      C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
    Provider:           Microsoft Corporation
    File version:    6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
Copyright:       Microsoft Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
    Digital Signer:   Microsoft Windows
I think that, back in October 2014, when this Blu-ray issue first came up, I updated the driver. That may be why you see the following different versions :
    6.1.7601.17514
    6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
So, how would I update the firmware? To what version should I update the firmware?
