Slight clicking sound in audio playback

Recently I've noticed my Mini making a slight fuzzy clicking sound at the beginning of any audio it plays back -- whether it's a 1-second event song or a 3-minute song. I use external speakers with it, but I tested it with headphones as well and heard the same thing. I'm honestly not sure if it happens with the internal speaker, because it doesn't really play loudly enough for me to pick it up.
Like I said, this is recent -- I'm sure it hasn't always done this (I've had the computer a little over a month now). Any ideas? It's a slight thing, but pretty bothersome.

HI SUE,
Thank you for your suggestion. I went to the site and printed off the instructions. I imported my movie into iMovie again and started over with the process by following the suggestions on the print out. It didn't help. In fact the popping sound is even louder.
Do you have any more suggestions? Or do you know anyone else in the disscusion site that may be able to help.
I don't use the disscusion site very often. It ususally takes me a long time to find a disscusion topic that matches my inquiry.
Would you mind e-mailing me at [email protected] with any response you might have. I check my e-mail several times a day but am not always on the internet.
Thank you again for your help.

  • Motion 5 clicking sound with audio

Anyone else notice that Motion 5 creates a clicking sound with your audio if you raise the volume, yet isn't redlining in the meter? That's what's happening to me. I have an AIF voiceover and I raised the volume by 3 and even though the audio meter is still in the green, I'm getting clicking sounds in Motion during playback, but also in the movie exported.
    Thoughts?
    Thank you!

The project was set to 59.97 fps. I created a new one at 29.97 and clicking went away.

Double Tap the Home Button... Then swipe the App (not the icon) Upwards... Tap the Home Button when finished.

  • Thinkpad x100e Hard Drive Clicking Sound

I don't know if it just a faulty hard drive or the way it is suppose to sound, but I can hear the clicking on the hard driver every time it is reading the hard drive. I just bought this on Monday January 25th and got it in the mail on the 27th. The first day I booted it up, I noticed it have a slight clicking sound. Didn't really think anything about but I have noticed that it had started to click more often. I have not noticed any problems with windows yet, no errors or it crashing/restarting. I ran Lenovo's software to check out the harddrive and it came up with no problems, at least on that end.  But the clicking is audible enough to hear it from 4-5 feet away, if you are trying to listen to it.
I am just wondering if I should send this back to get it fixed before I actually start using it, or if this is just a typical sound.
    Thanks,

Hello cpbs, welcome to Lenovo forums!
Some hdd´s are clickier that others and a faulty hdd on such a new machine like yours is rather unlikely.
The noise maybe distort you, because the whole system itself is very quiet?
Please tell us your model number, not S/N, OS and used HDD attached to your system, when posting issues, then it will be easier to narrow it down to specific configurations.

  • Tick sound before audio

Does anyone else have this problem or has anyone heard of it?...when I play a song or get an IM or any audio is played a short but annoying tick plays right before. Anyway to fix this...just got this thing Tuesday...and with the graphics distortion but Ram on the way...I am trying to hold out as much as I can before exchanging this one.

I really don't think you are correct on this thread. I too have the click sound preceding audio and it has nothing to do with the Audio sub system shutting down to power save mode. It has nothing to do with battery power as mine is doing it on AC power.
I've never said that this covers all situations. What applies to one person doesn't necessarily apply to everyone. It is possible that you have another issue beyond the audio sub-system being powered on and off. If your behaviour follows an expecterd pattern of…
    1-2 second delay -> tick/crackle -> sound
… then it's most likely the powering up of the audio sub-system. It's the 1-2 second delay that really gives it away rather than any tick or crackle. If there's no short delay before you expect sound then it's not a case of the sub-system power.
I have owned several other laptops and powerbooks and NONE of them ever did this. I personally think it is some kind of defect.
Were those Apple laptops? Windows/PC hardware power management can and will work differently to that of Apple and Mac OS so it's possible that the audio sub-system was never shutdown at all under Windows. I've never owned a PC laptop to know. I've had 6 PowerBook and 2 iBooks and they all followed the above behaviour to varying degrees. The only thing that varied was the extent of the tick/crackle with the worst offender being a PowerBook 3400c.
This is not a normal sound and there has to be a defect or something
Then persue it as such. If the decribed behaviour doesn't fit your situation then follow that up as something else. Start yourself a new thread or contact AppleCare and follow it up as something that is not the powering on and off of the audio sub-system.
From your description the time is too short for the sub-system power to be going off under any circumstances. But that doesn't make it wrong for the OP and the original thread.

  • Click sound heard when clip audio is at 0

I am using iMovie 9.0.4.  I have several video clips in my movie, with audio from a .aiff file througout.  The video clips I am using have audio, but I don't want to hear it, so it set it to zero for each one.  But with video clips with especially loud audio, even when set to zero, I hear a click sound when they start, as it it is late by 5ms in attenutating the audio to zero.

  • Fix mp3 audio playback clicking on Envy 6t-1000 win 7-64bit

    brand new laptop received 10/19/12
Need a fix for mp3 or web audio playback clicking on Envy 6t-1000 win 7-64bit
the mp3 clicking is heard in both Media Player and iTunes
the audio clicking is very noticable in the starting few seconds of a song and then is less frequent / noticable.
all drivers and windows updates installed - IDT version 6.10.6395.0

Cheryl, I figured out what the problem is/was.
The problem was that once I was on a win7 screen, ready to install, for some reason, the computer failed to recognize the usb cd/dvd drive.
This link from Microsoft told me that once I reached that part, I needed to remove the usb drive and put it in ANOTHER USB slot on the laptop.
I installed win7 using the link that you gave me for making MY OWN win7 dvd. That did the trick. I don't know if it would have been EASIER if I would have thought of using the discs that I bought from HP ($16), but it's a moot point now.
Anyways, thanks Cheryl for your help. It led me to searching in the right area.
I do have a DIFFERENT problem now, but it has nothing to do with win7 not installing on new hard drive on a laptop without a built-in cd/dvd drive.

  • Help -audio on imovie has a clicking sound

When I import a video tape from VCR using the formac convertor, I see the video and the audio is fine when importing, but when i play back it has a loud clicking sound in it. i can't figure out how to stop it. It was working fine before. Now i have this clicking. Any ideas on how to get it out of there?

I had a Formac years ago and had the same problem. I think there was a software patch at the Formac site that fixed the problem. You might try there.

  • My new Canon HF R400 makes clicking sound on playback. Canon replaced but still clicking sound. Same

Clicking sound on playback so annoying on most clips that I mute sound which is not the way I want my video to play. When I contacted Canon teck support they replaced but replacement has same problem. Either a terrible coincidence or something I'm doing wong. Please advise.

    Hi starwatcher!
    Thanks for posting.
Try setting the camcorder on a tripod or a flat stable surface, then turn the Image Stabilizer off in the menu under [Other Settings] > > [Image Stabilizer].
When you record new video after doing both things above, do you still hear the clicking noise?

  • Powerbook clicking sound being recorded to audio track

I'm trying to record audio cd using internal microphone of my powerbook onto Garageband 08. When I replay the track I am hearing an internal clicking sound, presumably from the guts of the laptop. I have two questions:
First, Is there a way to minimize this?
Second, would using an external microphone stop this completely or would there still be background noise?
Please note it is basic meditation audio cd with no music going to be incorporated
    Thank you all

assuming that it really is the hard drive or fan (etc), then a USB mic that you can set a distance away from the machine should help, yes.

  • Audio Playback issues with quicktime 7 and iTunes - distorted sound

I was informed by my Soundcard manufacturer that Quicktime7 now requires a "real" WDM driver.
Many soundcards seems to have a "fake" WDM driver and this leads to chopped up sound that is completely distorted / garbled and impossible to listen to.
The fix is to downgrade to an older version of quicktime and iTunes.
I'm posting this because it was driving me crazy that there is no information on this in the support pages from Apple even if there are plenty of reported issues with audio playback. The system requirements from Apple does not mention the WDM driver either. I am not sure if this "true" WDM driver has to be "windows signed" and all unsigned drivers are "fake".
I'm sure the changed requirements has changed because of the need to address more audio channels but it would be great if the "safe mode" would accept "fake" WDM drivers.
I have also requested a driver revision from my soundcard manufacturer. We'll see...

  • Clicking sound when streaming audio in Safari

    hello,
has anybody ever experienced a clicking sound when streaming audio over the internet? i have no idea where to begin to fix this problem.
    amber

    Dear Amber,
I am experiencing the same problem on my iMac G5 when I am streaming movies from ANY browser AND when I watch trailers on Front Row.
I think the QuickTime plugin has a problem streaming audio while the movie downloads, especially when the file is large (as in the case of Front Row streaming movies, where the files are all HD).
If other applications are open concurrently, the problem is even more noticeable, because QuickTime 7 consumes a lot of resources and if you do not have enough RAM (and 512 MB does not seem to be enough with OS X 10.4.4) it will strive to perform.
You may check how much memory is used by your computer by opening the Acivity Monitor utility.
I hope Apple will become aware of the problem and suggest a workaround, because otherwise QT 7 is exceptional.
    Ciao,
    Alessandro

  • Brand new i5 mbp - when typing slight ticking/clicking sound??

Just received my new i5 15 inch macbook pro. I am experiencing that when I type I am hearing a slightly audible ticking or clicking sound (to be clear I am not talking about the sound the keys make when struck but an additional sound). When not typing I don't hear anything and there doesn't seem to be anything consistent about what keys are struck that trigger the noise but it consistently happens while typing almost as if something is loose inside. But when I give the laptop a gentle shake I don't hear anything. Any insight or thoughts before I go nuts and sound crazy at the Genius bar??
    Thanks!

I would check for a possible loose screw holding the bottom panel on. That being said, since I don't own one of those models (I have a late 2011 MBP 13"), I have no idea if the screws they use on the newer models are standard Phillips or Apple's proprietary Pentalobe (5-sided) screws. I would assume they are Phillips since the PC is likely upgradable (HDD, memory). If they are Phillips, go through and snug up the screws. It may help. Also, since the MacBook is new, you may want to take it in to the Genius Bar and have them check it out for you if you snug up the screws and it's still making the clicking sound.
EDIT: chek out the links on the right side of the page that says "More like this", especially here:

The sound you're hearing may be the normal operation of the SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor).

  • X201 hangs and makes noises during audio playback

Hello, I've a 3249CTO X201 with 8g of ram and an updated Hdd (seagate momentus xt 500gb with 4gb ssd).
I had issues with the Hdd that where partially resolved with a seagate firmware update (the hdd kept going from standby to active mode without apparent reason and it was assumed to be a too agressive power saving mode...)
Anyway, my issue here is the annoying chirping sound coming out the speakers during any audio playback (online audio streams, films, mp3, youtube... you name it!) anytime the Hdd is accessed.
It even seems like everything just hangs for anywhere between 0 and 2 seconds at the exact same time.
It only happens when on battery and using w7 pro 64bit. If I use ubuntu from my 8g sdhc card, it never occurs (even if I use chrome on both and watching the exact same youtube video). (NOTE that I did access the hdd from ubuntu to prove my point...)
I think it is related to the power gestion of the system and I've tried a countless serie of different power management settings. It affect the frequency of the episodes (would occur more or less often) but it still happens.
When plugged in, it never occurs....
If it doesn't occur under ubuntu (I mean never!), it should not be hardware related, however the w7 way of managing power is different so I tend to think there IS a hardware issue (weakness) wich might be highligted by the OS.
Anybody has a good lead on this?
