Slight disc number annoyance

I got an iPod touch for Xmas, and I think it's brilliant. There is one thing that is annoying me though. I have several multi-disc albums, and hate having the same cover twice in coverflow, so I set all discs under the same name and assigned disc numbers in the get info menu. On iTunes, this displays my album as one set, and lists the correct track number (ie: 1,2,3... For disc 1 followed by 1,2,3... for disc 2). However, when I sync my iPod, the tracks still come up in the correct order, but the numbers do not restart for the next disc, so it is impossible to tell when one disc ends and another starts. This appears to be an issue with the firmware not displaying the actual id3 tag track number, as I have noticed that when I remove a song from the middle of an album the following tracks are renumbered. Is there any work around fir this issue bar splitting my multi disc albums?
Cheers in advance,
Pól

Thanks for the quick response. I've got my disc numbers set and the albums aren't compilations. I think that the iPod just doesn't display the track number part of the tag, or the disc number part, but instead uses both pieces of information to order the tracks, and then assigns them with a new number. Basically I want to be able to tap one of my multi disc sets in coverflow and be able to see disc and track numbers, or at least the track numbers restarting for the second disc.

  • Zen Vision:M 60GB firmware: NEEDS 'Disc Number' tag supp

The Creative Zen Vision:M 60GB firmware (.20.02e) does not recognise the 'Disc Number' part of ID3 tags.
This is VERY annoying as albums made up of more than one CD do not play in the correct order (they play in order of 'Track Number', e.g. ",,,,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,5,5" etc). I do not want to go through my collection separating these large albums into a messy bunch of single discs.
This seems like a simple firmware issue: please update it!

    jjwood,
Although I can understand the situation, please refrain from using bad language which is uncalled for. In any case, if the player is still having problem despite attempt at rescue mode, then contact Customer Support for service. If the store where you purchase the product allow exchanges, it maybe faster to be done through them.

  • ITunes 11 not sorting multi-disc audiobooks by disc number

I just updated to iTunes 11, and for some reason, my multi-disc audiobooks are not being ordered by disc number in the Books view. Instead, it goes track 1 of disc 1, track 1 of disc 2, etc.
The tracks have the disc numbers in their metadata, so why aren't they being sorted that way?
This issue does not occur for music tracks, however. Puzzling, eh?

Guys, I have the ultimate solution!
    Use the following Applescript:
Embed Disc Number in Track Number v1.0
Applies selected tracks' disc number as hundreds digit in track number
    Short link: http://dougscripts.com/461
    date posted: July 14, 2009 - total downloads 926
    you can find it at:

It is a reversible operation by definition!

  • What is "Disc Number" and is it useful?

    Hello All!
I am trying to make a Rush chronological ALBUM compilation playlist, to burn a CD in MP3 format. I want "Rush" to appear as folder 1, "Fly By Night" to appear as folder 2, and so forth on the final CD (so the folder numbers correspond with the chronology of the album releases).
The only way I've found to keep this chronology when compiling the master playlist is to put a number "1" before "Rush" for the first Album (and yes I am clicking on "album" so that I sort by album) and a "2" before "Fly By Night" and so on, otherwise, when I place these albums in the master playlist, the Albums are arranged alphabetically which is not what I want (the songs themselves stay sorted within the album which is good).
If I do a command info on all the songs in a particular album, I see that there is a spot for "Disc Number" where you can enter information such as Disc Number "1 of 2" (for Rush) and Disc Number "2 of 2 (for Fly By Night), which I WOULD THINK WOULD SORT THE ALBUMS IN THE PLAYLIST BY DISC NUMBER, BUT THIS DOES NOT WORK! As far as I can tell, "Disc Number" does nothing.
Does anyone know WHAT "Disc Number" does? I had hoped it would work for sorting albums in a master playlist, in the order that I want. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think iTunes will produce a MP3 disc with the tunes sorted into folders.
For that sort of thing, you are better off simply burning your stuff from the finder (or Toast if you have it). Insert CDR blank, when prompted what to do with it, tell the system to load the CDR in the finder. Now you can open your iTunes library and you should find a folder called (shudder) Rush. And within that gawd awful folder you should find subfolders, each being a separate album. If you drag all those subfolders into the icon of the blank CDR on your desk top, after a bit where the OS copies them to a disk cache, you will have everything ready to burn already in folders. You might want to rename the folders on the disk image with a "1. ", "2. ", etc in front of the album names to be sure they are forced in the correct order. Now just burn the CDR.
BTW, this assumes your stuff is already imported to iTunes in MP3 format.

  • How to edit tracks and disc number?

I have the iPod Classic 160GB, and I have a Windows 7 desktop PC which has the latest version of iTunes. I am not sure what is the latest, but I always have it up to date.
I have a lot of playlists for my iPod, and I have it labeled by the albums, so in that particular playlist are my songs. Some are multi disc meaning some are two, or more, or some are a complete box set. I know for a fact I'm not doing this right. In my playlist, I drag over every disc of that album, and track numbers, and disc numbers are one big line of songs. Pretty much I would like to group my disc 1 together, and when all tracks play of disc 1 then it plays the next disc, and so on. Could someone please explain how in steps?
    Thank you,

I have to sleep... I live in the UK. Your last two posts were at 02:16 and 05:59 respectively. Like anyone else helping out here I'm doing so in my spare time. And you should have all the information by now... For a multi-disc CD give each disc the correct disc number, then give each disc the same album name. If you choose the right column to sort on (Album) the CDs are listed in order with the tracks listed in order within each CD.
In the screenshot you posted you should enable the Track # and Album Artist columns so you can see clearly what is going on.
In fact for a fuller picture, turn on the columns for Track #, Disk #, Album, Sort Album, Artist, Sort Artist, Album Artist and Sort Album Artist so you can see all the factors influencing the sort.
If you sort on the Album column, set to read Album by Artist, then sorting is controlled by the first non-empty value from the following fields: Sort Album Artist, Album Artist, Sort Artist, Artist, then by Sort Album or Album, then Disk #, then Track #.

  • HP Paviliion dv6-6159tx loss the one recovery disc number 3rd disc

hello... m using dv6-6159tx recently i loss the one recovery disc number 3rd disc. now how i will get the 3rd recovery disc. I cant purchase the new one. Kindly solve my problem

Hello LossrecoverCD. I understand that you've misplaced one of your recovery discs and need to get or make some more. Is this correct?
If these discs came with your notebook and were not created by you you're able to make another copy for yourself. Just follow these instructions. However, you can only create one set of recovery discs. So if you lost one that you created you'll have to speak with HP to get more.
If you're in the US/Canada call them at 1-800-474-6836. If you're outside of this area use this site to get your region's contact information.

  • Where do I find the disc number for my macbook A1278?

Help! I can't find my original install discs for my Macbook A1278 and cannot find anywhere on apple site a cross reference as to which disc I need to replace system. My hard drive died and I bought a new one, but my book wants install disc. Which model number is compatible with the model A1278? I found a set on ebay (Disk 1: 2Z691-6209-A Disk 2: 2Z691-6195-A) but can't find anywhere that tells if this is compatible with my book or which number is compatible. No, I dont have applecare but is there a site that gives info like this about the macbook? Thank you guys, I really miss my computer....

This really isn't an AppleCare issue. If you lost your restore disks, they would not be replaced under AppleCare. However, Apple will provide you with restore disks for a nominal shipping and handling charge... just give them a call. This way you can be sure to get the exact restore media for your machine. Every MacBook... and every different rev. of MacBooks has different restore media specific to that machine. Going through Apple will avoid any guessing.

  • Disc Number is ignored in Itunes 11.

When playing multi disc audio books, all the track 1s are played in sequence, then track 2s etc.
I believe this was an issue with Itunes 9, but was fixed.    Now its back in Itunes 11.
    Is there a workaround?

For the moment, if you view your audiobooks in the "List" view and then sort by album, the audiobooks will show up in the proper track order. Of course, this is an issue they should fix.

  • X-Fi installation disc software does not recognize driv

i've been wandering about on forums alot in the past couple of days but i couldnt find a proper solution anywhere.
    heres my problem:
recently i bought the: x-Fi Xtremegamer Fatalty Pro. i bought it as a ''Bulk'' card which means it doesnt come with any drivers or software of any kind. so when i got it into my pc (removed old drivers and software for my old SB audigy first) i installed the driver ''SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_09_0007'' which i got from this site. after a reboot the driver was succesfully installed and i had sound, i could also adjust some settings through the audio console.
    but now the fun starts..
because i wasnt completely happy with some of the tones and volumes in some of my games (mostly BF2 and UT2004) i decided to LEGALLY download the . ISO of the aplications disc that is supplied with the RETAIL versions of all x-Fi cards. but when i try to install it i get the following: ''setup is unable to detect a supported program on your system, please make sure that your product is properly installed before running this setup program, setup will exit''
if i were to believe everyone i know with an x-fi card, and several forums that read of this problem, that driver should work fine in combination with the install disc. and yet for me it doesnt.
    any ideas?
    things i tried:
-removing all creative drivers for both SB audigy and SB x-Fi and starting from scratch
-trying diffirent PCI slots on my mob
-disabling onboard audio in my BIOS
    -re-installing winXP SP2
-latest nVidia audio drivers (read somewhere that it sometimes helps)
    things i havent tried:
    -reinstall windows
-something new im hopefully going to learn in this thread
    my system:
    MOB:?ASUS p4p800 SE
    pent4. 3.2ghrz
    2048MB RAM
    XFX 7800GS
    x-Fi Xtremegamer Fatalty Pro
    Windows XP Pro SP2

I think your running into a product ID issue. Some OEM cards get a slightly diff number and the install doesnt have the id for the oem. If you go back to the thread where you got the ISO link I think someone can point you to a modified inf which "should" solve your problem. PS. FYI Whether you downloaded an iso or just the files doesnt make them Legal. OEM cards were not to come with the stuff so obtaining them is still swiping hehe. Not that I really give a darned one way or the other LOL

  • HP Recovery Disc Creation Error

I just bought a new HP Pavilion 500 desktop AMD Elite Quad Core A8-6500 8GB memory 2TB hd, and I am trying to create recovery discs as recommended by the system using DVD+R (Memorex Brand) discs to complete this process. The program comes up, checks the disc I insert and tells me which type I have and that it will take 3 discs to complete the progess.
It then appears to be creating disc number 1.
However after completion, it says it is verifying the disc and then after about 15 minutes puts up an error message.
"An error occured while creating the disc. Try a new disc or choose a different high quality brand of disc and make sure all applications arre closed."
This whole process wastes about 30 minutes. However, I can see in windows explorer that the disc has been created and has files on it. I rebooted, started over and was able to create disk 1. Disk 2 would always error out at the end of the process. I spent hours last night trying 6 different disks until I gave up on Disk 2. Thinking I have a bad PC or drive, I tried ripping cd's and playing movies, all seemed to work ok.
I was really frustrated until I saw that 5 years after this 2009 post people are still having the exact same issue! So it is not just me.
I am giving up on recovery disks because I have already spent too much time and disks on it.
I will try the recovery usb and if that fails move on.

Additional information is below. I was surprised to see so many people with HP products having exactly the same problem. The recovery disk problem is very frustrating because you have to wait so long for it to error (30-45 min.) and it looks like it is working right up to the point it errors out at the end of the disc writing process.
    1. Product name - HP Black 500-214 Desktop PC with AMD Elite Quad-Core A8-6500 Accelerated Processor, 8GB Memory, 2TB Hard Drive, purchased and unboxed yesterday
    2. OS - Windows 8.1
    3. Error Message - "An error occured while creating the disc. Try a new disc or choose a different high quality brand of disc and make sure all applications are closed."
    4. Any changes made - No changes, this was right out of the box after I set up window 8.1.

  • Is there a script that would allow unique disc names on double albums? (I don't want to put them in the album title or comments.)

I have iTunes 11.2.2, and I've recently made use of iTunes' "disc x of y" feature, instead of entering the disc number in the album title like I used to. I made this change because putting disc numbers in the album-title field makes the two discs appear as two separate albums, with the artwork appearing twice, which I didn't want. The downside of using the "disc x of y" feature, however, is that for double albums where the two discs have unique titles, rather than the default "disc one" and "disc two" -- say, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Stadium Arcadium, where the discs are called "Jupiter" and "Mars" --  there is no way to label the disks with their unique titles and still keep them within one album entry. I don't want to put these titles in as a comment or anything like that either. What I'm really wondering is whether it is possible to write a script that would allow me to change where it reads "disc 1" to a unique title, at least within the album section of iTunes.

Certain tags are limited as to format.  I am pretty sure the disc number field only allows numeric entries.  You can send feedback to Apple suggesting changes in iTunes but since this is a somewhat unusual feature I doubt it will be high priority.

  • Problem with iTunes not sorting album/disc sets right, can't edit album info?

    Hi there,
I have recently been having an issue with my iTunes software. Here is what is going wrong: I right click on an album in my iTunes library, then select "Get Info." The "Get Info" window pops up, and I seem to be ready to edit my album information. Specifically, I am trying to edit the "disc number" (Disc Number 1 of 33, for instance). I can click on the little number boxes, and I can seemingly edit the numbers inside (i.e., change the 1 to 01). But when I press OK to save the changes, the disc number immediately reverts back to its original variable.
The whole reason I am trying to solve the problem above is a direct result of a previous problem. I recently bought a CD disc set (Haydn's Complete Symphonies) which contains 33 discs. When uploading them to my iTunes, everything was going fine until I reached disc 10 (i.e., the discs were all in the right order in my iTunes library, 1-9). When I hit disc 10, I expected it to show up right after 9 but it instead arrived right in front of 1. I now realize that this must be due to some shortcoming in the iTunes code (it thinks 10 is the next number in the sequence after 1, i.e., 1, 10, 11, 12, or something). I tried another disc (11), and it sure enough it appeared right after 10 (right behind disc 2).
I thought I could solve the sorting issue by putting a 0 in front of the disc numbers (01, 02, 03, etc) in order to get iTunes to recognize the correct sorting sequence. This, however, only created another problem, which is first problem I outlined above: I can't edit the disc information in order to make the vital change.
Could this be due to permissions settings? Is it just iTunes being glitchy? Am I missing something really obvious?
I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and have iTunes version 11.0.5.5 installed.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm having this problem too. It does not seem to be a permissions issue. I have found so far that restarting iTunes will allow me to edit a song I have previously been unable to edit.
This is happening with iTunes 9.0.1 (9) I can't say for sure that it wasn't happening under 9.0 - but I didn't notice it then.
I find that songs are uneditable after they have been downloaded to iTunes. Not all songs, just some, on an unpredictable basis. I don't know if there are other older songs with the same problem, or whether it's just new downloads that are being affected.
I've also noticed that it's impossible to delete one of these songs from a playlist.
So - in summary : Download an album ... 2 or 3 songs on the album will be impossible to edit (song info) and impossible to delete from a playlist ... restarting iTunes allows them to be edited ...
    It's a really odd one.

  • In my library disc 2 comes before disc 1

i imported a 2 disc cd to my itunes library but disc 2 is positioned before disc 1 in the sequence order of albums.
    How can I correct this?

Select one of the tracks on one of the discs and hold shift then select the other tracks for the album. After selecting them, right click the tracks and choose Get Info. From there you can change the Disc Number for the tracks.
