Slight earpiece distortion at 80~100% volume?

Hey all, I've noticed a slight bit of distortion from the earpiece at the louder volumes, there is absolutely no static or any other type of sounds made by the earpiece, except when you get it up past 85 or 85 percent volume the sound gets a little scratchy sounding. Anyone else notice anything like this on your iPhones? Thanks.

I went down to the Verizon store today, and I noticed that all the display iPhones when making a test call sounded more muffled than my iPhone, as if mine had a lot of gain. Which my call clarity is crystal clear, but a very slight distortion at times over 80%. I guess not every one is the same, and its definetly not something thats a big deal. I've had MANY smartphones now, and this iPhone blows them all out of the water. Best purchase I've made in a while thats for sure.

  • Dealing with distortion but keeping enough volume on export

I'm trying to export a song out of logic pro and I'm getting a lot of distortion. Weird thing is there's no audio peaking/noise in the "red zone," I think it more has to do with the fact that I'm using piano with a lot of sustain (creating a lot of building sound). So I brought down the master volume and that actually solved the problem.
However it also created a problem: The song is too soft now.
Interestingly, after exporting and importing into itunes, it plays fantastic because itunes (somehow) ends up boosting the audio and doing its own "normalize" I guess.
But I want this song to be properly heard not just iTunes.
Any ideas on how to export/bounce my logic pro song at a lowered overall output (so I avoid distortion) yet having the song not ultimately be too soft/quiet?
I know that sounds like a oxymoron of sorts, but there surely has to be a way to do this.
I mean, I guess I could import my song into final cut pro and like....just raise the overall volume and then re export. that seems way too clutsy of a process though.
    thanks for your help,

What is the volume setting on the nano itself? Adjusting that could make a difference.
Any time I connect to an external device through the headphone jack the volume control on the nano affects how loud the music is played.
But I don't know if that's true for devices that use the dock connector.

  • Static FIXED w/o 100% volume

I have a high end audio card (Emu 1212m) and I have been able to get static free w/o a maxed out volume slider by adjusting my quicktime settings to 16 bit / 48kHz - this shouldn't be the case as my card is 24 bit / 96kHz - but it works so I'm not questioning it.
Anyone else who has a similar high end audio card, and maybe any other card, experiment with 16 bit / 36 or 41 or 48 kHz and it may work for you, until a better fix comes along.
if it works pass it along

Worked for me, but only for while...then the static/distortion returned.
Interestingly tho, the static on audio appeared outside of iTunes when I was playing non related audio via QuickTime. I am presuming that the problem could lie with QuickTime and/or relevant drivers, and not with iTunes then?

  • E71 internal earpiece distortion

I have two E71-1 in my company and both suffer from the same thing:
When having a conversation the internal earpiece is distorting when I speak in the mic. It doesn't seem to react different on the level of voice but on the frequency.
Both phones have 110.07.127 firmware and I am really annoyed by this unpleasant distortion.

    Hello,
I had the same problem with my curve, you can get into the phones using a TORX T5 or T6 star key, these are relatively cheap and easy to get hold of from ebay etc. I found a youtube video explaning how to get into mine after you've removed the screws they just unclip in layers.
There are two speakers in the hand set and the earpeice speaker seems to develop an intolerable amount of distortion I solved the problem by cutting a 5mm x 5mm piece of rubber from an old pair of stereo earphones and placed it in the socket of the speaker then replaced the speaker and found that it dampenned the thin diaphram of the speaker sufficiently as to completely stop the distortion.
The replacement speakers are very cheap and are just dropped into place in the handset without soldering so although a bit fiddly its not too labour intensive and certainly not so dificult as to justify paying someone else to do the job if you require a replacement.
Im just a bloke who doesnt like spending money and has a go at fixing things cheaply and effectively, I hope you get a result mate, good luck.

  • CK-100 volume issues

    Hey all,
I've just bought a used car and it has a Nokia CK-100 installed, I can connect to it fine, but I can't adjust the volume, it's defaulted to the maximum volume which is killing my ears and can be heard for several blocks!
I've pulled the unit out and updated it to the latest firmware to make sure it's compatible with my iPhone 4. I also pulled out the little controller unit (CU-7) to check it all. No change after reinstalling.. Any suggestions?
    - Paul

    Hi,
If the control wheel doesn't affect the volume, there is either an installation issue or possibly the cable to the controller is damaged.
The CK-100 will play music down the ISO cables direct to the car speakers, if installed in that way, so RCA is not the only option.
From your description, the installation sounds like a strange method so my first action would be to get it checked.
Depending on who installed it, they may not have understood the kit correctly, hence the use of the separate speaker rather than using the car audio system and getting the full potential out of the kit.
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook inbuilt speakers distorted audio at high volumes

i was having sound issues with my late 2008 macbook, wherein my audio from the inbuilt speakers would get distorted with a metallic rattle, when the sound of the system exceeded 80%. searched a lot over the internet, but couldn't find any solution. frustrated, as would be a lot of you, whose similar questions went unanswered, i decided to open up the mac. i found that the rattle sound was caused by the small speaker ( above the optical drive ) buzzing against the metallic cover. i put a small amout of gauze between the speaker and the cover, and the sound became as good as before, without any appreciable decibel loss.. hope this helps someone out there. cheers!

  • ALSA - after everyboot, too loud (100% volume).

    Hi!
I've beem some problems with alsa. Every time when I start my laptop, the sound is 100%... too loud.
After use "alsamixer" to normalize... and "alsactl store" to save the changes... after reboot, sound is 100% again... changes take no effect and sound is too loud again.
    $ alsactl store

    Thanks in advance!!

I would investigate if the alsa-restore.service alsa-state.service and alsa-store.service , that are part of the alsa-utils package work properly. these are responsible for saving/restoring the values in var/lib/alsa/asound.state.

  • Slight crackles/distortion when session uses alot of tracks

i'm mixing a song for a friend. throughout the song it uses 7 drum tracks,4 guitars on choruses,3 on verses, bass + about 4 tracks of vocals.
its fine throughout most of it, however when theres a part with a very long tom section+all guitars going, bass too, it crackles.
i can fiddle with the EQ on certain tracks-mainly guitars and can reduce this crackle a bit,but is there anything else i'm doing wrong? other than EQ-ing wrong?
its not the system performance as the monitor in logic shows its working fine whilst the session is playing. i've also tried freezing ALL tracks and nothing changes
    any help is great ta!

  • Apple TV and Sony Bravia, Slight video distortion when streaming local video

I have a 3rd Generation Apple TV and a Sony Bravia TV
When I am strwaming movies from iTunes, it appears it is skipping frames every few seconds. I have it hooked up through a Sony ES receiever, and i have by passed it to go directly to the TV. Below is all the troubleshooting i have done:
    - Changed the HDMI cable
    - Plugged it in directly to the TV
    - I have tried 2 Different TV's in the house (Video Streaming is fine on both TVs)
    - Tested the video on 2 macs and window media center, videos play fine
    - Moved the Airport Extreame and internet connection next to the unit
    - streamed from Both my macs and the WMC PC.
    - tried connecting either net to Airport extreame with the Mac
    - Streamed a movie trailer and it looked fine.
    - Changed the resolution of the apple tv from 1080P to 720P
    - Played movies from the PS3 and DVD play, no problems with the picture on the TV
    - Power cycled EVERYTHING!
I have over 400 movies on my media server, and none of them acted like this on my 1st generation Apple TV i just sold.
The weird part is that it only happens to the movies i am streaming on this specific TV. I know the TV is good, the moveis are fine. And the connection between the device and the system hosting the movies is fine..
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

    Make sure its compatible
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

  • Earpiece volume turn low

without any notice the earpiece volume turn low after normal call and I tried to raise the volume up or down from the side botton and restart the phone but it didn't change anythings for next couple calls (the speaker volume was running normal)and it get back to normal after few calls with no reason, is there anybody have this problem before and know why it happen and by the way my Siri app. also start by itself continously during working on the phone any explaination.

The 3GS is my first iPhone and I have to agree that the volume is quite often much too low for my liking. I have noticed that it's not always, just more often than not. This goes for both the earpiece and the speakerphone. Volume through bluetooth is fine. My hearing is good.
After speaking to a couple of friends who just got the 3GS they all say the same thing, making me think that the volume is where it's supposed to be, but it's just too low for what I'd like it to be. For example, it's fine if I'm in a quite area (volume maxed out), but if there's any sort of background noise it becomes very difficult to hear the other person.
Unfortunately, I don't have any fixes, but if anybody else does, it would be much appreciated here as well!!

  • The volume slowly increases to the 100% even when I set the volume slider to 1%...

When I try to set the volume lower on my PC, it quickly increases to 100% volume, even when I set the volume slider to 1 or 2%. When I set it to 0%, however, it does mute the volume. It's rediculous! I just want quieter music, but I am constantly blasted by maxed out volume...

A stuck multimedia key on your keyboard to increase the volume perhaps? iTunes won't change the volume of its own accord. Perhaps there is an option in your control panel to disable the function.

  • [SOLVED] MPD volume always 100%

    ~/.mpdconf:
    audio_output {
    type "alsa"
    name "My ALSA Device"
    device "hw:0,0"
    format "44100:16:2"
    mixer_type "hardware"
    mixer_device "hw:0"
    mixer_control "PCM"
I want to control volume over hardware/PCM, so in ncmpcpp I see inc/decrease volume and also see it in alsamixer, but MPD plays at 100% volume. Why?

  • HF-300 Sound Quality - Loudness and Distortion

    Hi,
Just wondering if anybody has any comparative testing on the sound quality and loudness with this unit. I am not sure if mine is faulty or just the best that can be expected from the speakerphone.
Problem is (tested using n95 8 gig and n80) that once the volume is turned up to 70% or more the units sound is distoted terribly. Sounds like the speaker is vibrating and crackling. The symptom is like when you turn up the volume on any speaker beyond its capability which then gets that distortion/vibration effect.
That said when used below 70% volume its too soft to be useable for everyday driving conversations.
Golden question if you own the HF-300 also is can you put it on 100% volume and have loud and clear sound without any negative sound quality? May help if you mention what phone model you have tested youyr with also.
I really think it must be a fault as everything marketed and reviewd about these units states 'loud n clear'. Surely its meant to be used on 100% also without such distortion or why have 100% volume possible.

Sorry to ask again but is the car kit installed with an additional single Nokia speaker or is all audio played through the car audio system (original car speakers)?
Most likely in the second case is that the installer has routed the audio incorrectly.
The kit has two outputs: stereo for music and mono for calls. Mono calls can be installed to run through the single Nokia speaker but musics should be installed to run throught the car stereo 'aux in' channel, hence the question about what audio is distorted.
