Slight lag using time capsule wifi with XP

Hi, I have a strange problem when I connect my Vaio to interent using TC wifi...there seems to be a few seconds of inactivity before i get to a web page, its getting annoying. I have no speed issues in downloading or speed tests ( also using wired internet all is ok), just when I enter a site address, nothing happens for say 10 seconds, then the page loads in stages...
Any advice welcomed.

If the wired computer is on the network you should be able to access the printer. It won't matter whether the PC is wired or wireless. I'd surmise it's necessary to install the printer driver on the PC in a manner that recognizes it's not connected directly via USB, but via the wired network. I happen to know however, that if you try to add a network printer by telling the PC's Wizard that it's a network printer, it won't work. You have to tell the Wizard it's connected directly to the PC, even though it isn't, and somehow configure its port so that it finds it on the network.
Confusing? You bet. I've done it so I know it works, but unfortunately my piece of junk HP laptop is being repaired for the third time in two years and I don't recall the exact steps to follow. It took me a while to figure out.

  • Using time capsule along with offsite backup?

hello, thanks for taking a look at my post.
for my office, we want to use time capsule to backup all of our computers, but are looking to then have that information backed up off-site in case of possible theft/fire/etc. at the office. does time capsule have an option to backup to mobile me?, or any other off-site storage?
if this is not the most ideal backup situation, I would appreciate any other suggestions.
    thanks for your time,
    steve

...does time capsule have an option to backup to mobile me?, or any other off-site storage?
    No for both questions.
Time Capsule itself doesn't do any backups. Time Machine on each individual Mac is actually what performs the backup to the Time Capsule.

I am not up with all the airplay stuff.. owning very little Apple products.. I think the TC is irrelevant.. though.. check ipad or atv discussion areas.

  • Can use time capsule wifi but can't find time capsule in finder.

I have a 3TB time capsule that I bought about a month ago. I can use the WIFI but all of a sudden I can't find time capsule in finder. How do I locate it?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It is the Mavericks OS usually.
Try a simple reboot of the TC.. that is often enough. No luck..
Try a full network restart in correct order.. ie modem.. wait 2min.. TC .. wait 2min.. clients.
    No luck..
Manually mount the TC using Go, Connect to Server in Finder.
    Type in AFP://TCname.local or AFP://TCIPaddress
where you use the actual network name in place of the TCname.. ie not the name on the TC.. unless it is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. which I do strongly advise. But its network name which is without spaces and no illegal characters which apple recommends you use.. eg apostrophe.
So Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule is not the real network name.
It will become fred_blogs_airport_time_capsule which is a bad name still.
Easier use the IP, eg 10.0.1.1 for TCIPaddress.

  • Can I use Time Capsule (2T) with an imac running 10.5.8?

Today I purchased TC, to use as my backup drive, and specifically asked the store (PeachMac) if TC would work with my antiquated imac 10.5.8.  They said yes.   I get home and proceed to set it up.  I plugged my DSL router into the Ethernet LAN, and plugged in the TC... and Airport Utility tells me...
"A newer version of AirPort Utility is required.  This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility."
I can't upgrade my imac to Lion, without losing all my Adobe products. (they're old too, but they work for what i need them for and I'm not ready to jump into the Adobe Cloud just yet.)
The Airport Utility that is on my machine is 5.6.1.  From looking at the apple.com/support site, I need 5.5.3 to run it on my imac.  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1390
if I hit download, it says... sorry, not found.  Anyone know what I need to do?

Unfortunately, you received incorrect information from the store, when they could have taken another 30 seconds to pull up the system requirements for the new Time Capsule:
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
If you have an iPhone, iPad, etc you may be able to set up the Time Capsule with that device.
Otherwise, you will likely want to have a conversation with the store and show them the link and information above.

  • TS3679 Backing up iMac using time capsule 2TB with Virgin media super hub

Can anywone help.  -  On the time machine screen, the message constantly says "preparing backup".  It has been saying this for hours.
I have wired the ATC into the superhub correctly and can see the ATC in the Airport utility.
When i first setup the ATC it gave me another network name which I could connect to.  I don't require any other networks - I just want the to back up my imac using time machine and nothing else.
My aiport settings are as follows
Base station name = myname airport capsule.
Wireless - Network mode = OFF
Route mode = OFF (bridge mode)
    Are these settings correct??
Is there anything else I can do to sort this out.

Hi Johny have you resolved this? I just caught your post looking for something else today. If you have NOT resolved it, it's highly likely this is a NETWORKING issue and is simple to resolve.
Look first in the diagnostic logs by launching /applications/utilities/console.app and look for SYSTEM LOGs in the side bar of the UI. If the problem is persistent there will be some messages in here.
SELECTIVELY post these in this thread. Please don't flood it with any lines of noise. Try and be selective (surgical) of your error messages.
I'm sure others reading this post will also help you get this working.
Post your results for others to see.

  • Can i use Time Capsule Media with Media Extender?

    HI
I have Mac Book Air, Time Capsule & LG Plasma TV And i have more than 800+ Movies in my Time Capsule. And i want to watch these movies on my Plasma TV, By CABLE OR WIFI n
Please some one suggest what Media Extender support to browse media files from Time Capsule Netgear, LinkSys, AppleTV, Belikin or anyother
    Thanks & Regards
    Mac

We use a Western Digital TV HD 1080P. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-1080P-Media-Player/dp/B001ILFDCK You would connect the WD box to the TV set, using your own HDMI cable. Then you would connect the TC to the USB port on the WD box. Nice on-screen graphics, uses folders to separate categories, and not limited to iTunes content.

  • Can you use Time Capsule with any wifi extender?

Can you use Time capsule with any wifi extenders?

No, since Apple designed their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
I suppose that it is possible that another brand might work, but since you won't know this until you try, it would be a good idea to have a clear understanding of the store's return policy before you decide to gamble.

  • Time Capsule WiFi stops when copying large files to Windows 7 (Bootcamp) using WiFi

I've got a new Time Capsule (Purchased less than a month ago) and a new Macbook Pro.
I copied a large set of files (large in QTY & some Large in size > 2GB) to my Time Capsule from a Windows 7 computure via a Wired connection.
When I access the time capsule from Mac OS X (10.8.2) I can copy all of the existing files to my Mac without any issue (Time machine also seems to be working fine).
However when use I Bootcamp (Windows 7 Ultimate) from my MacBook (The Time Capsule / Airport software for windows has been installed) I can only copy about 100 MB before the WiFi in the time capsule stops working. The WiFi doesn't just stop working for Windows, it stops working on the actual Time Capsule; I can tell because my phone and iPad both lose their connection and the AirPort Utility on the iPad can't detect the Time Capsule any more.
The issue is reproducable every time with the set of files I am trying to copy.
I've called Apple Support and they said there was nothing they can do to help (It took a long time to even convince some one that this is a supported configuration even though the Technical Specifications of the time capsule clearly state that Windows 7 is supported - http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/specs.html "For AirPort Disk with a USB hard drive - PC with Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), or Windows 7 (SP1)")  at which point they told me to take it to a Genius bar. I've subsequently done that and been told that they will not support the Time Capsule because I am trying to connect to it using Bootcamp.
From what I've seen on this forum some people previously had this issue and worked around it by downgrading the firmware. However, since my Time Capsule is new, I am unable to downgrade the firm ware (& it is the latest).
    Any suggestions?

No, it's not a Windows driver issue. 1) If it was a Windows driver issue the network copy would drop out on the Windows machine or fail rather than the whole Time Capsule losing WiFi connectivity for all devices in my house. 2) I am able to copy the exact same set of files, via the Time Capsule WiFi, when the files are stored on my PC which is plugged in to the Time Capsule via an Ethernet cable.
It's not a problem copying the same files from another location on my network with the MBP in Bootcamp therefore it' not a windows driver issue and it's not a network IP issue. It's a Firmware issue with the Time Capsule.
At best this is a bug that has been reintroduced in the latest firmware which is why the suggestions have been to downgrade the firm ware.
At worst this is a major security issue with the Time Capsule as copying a set of files from it's hard disk via it's WiFi, using a Windows computer, cause the Time Capsule to be subseptiable and result in a Denial-of-Service.

  • Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Fujitsu Siemen Laptop with b/g network

Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Windows Vista based Laptop with "b/g" network connects. When i use Macbook with "n" Network.
Surprising that TC and MacBook both from Apple can't stay connected when Fujitsu Siemens Laptop joins through WiFi.
I use a DSL Modem (Speed 1 Mbps) connected thru ethernet to Time Capsule on Bridge Mode.

Yes, n is better, but if you have it running on b/g/n (since you have to with your b/g only notebooks) the n is inactive. Kind of a waste. Others have resorted to adding another wireless router which one set to b/g/n and the other n-only.

  • Time Capsule & Airport with a new modem WiFi

I have a MacBook Pro and a Time Capsule with Airport.  I have a new modem from my Comcast Internet provider that has WiFi Built into it.  If I use the modem for my WiFi, will my Time Capsule connect with my MacBook through the modem Wifi?  And how can I know which Wifi will be the stronger?

Plug the TC into the new modem with a decent length ethernet cord.. a few meters..
Then simply setup roaming network.. so both the TC and the new modem will reinforce each other.. the setup is easy.. Bob at least says it is.. automagically from the new v6 utility.. but it is not hard to do manually either IMHO.
    The basic rule is simple.
    TC in bridge.
TC creates a wireless network. Same SSID.. ie wireless name Same security .. ie WPA2 AES = WPA2 Personal.. same password.
Voila there it is. although using different channels can be helpful.. if you run into problem.
Now you don't have to worry about which is stronger.. the MB will connect to whichever is stronger.. without human intervention.
    Ask Bob to elaborate..

BTW the roaming network document is a help.

The fact that you have one apple and one non-apple router here makes no difference except in terminology.

  • Can I use Time Capsule only as a WiFi backup disk w/out having to configure it as my main router?

I already have an Airport Extreme that works great. Can I use Time Capsule ONLY as a WiFi backup disk w/out having to configure it as my main router with my Internet modem?

Can I use Time Capsule ONLY as a WiFi backup disk w/out having to configure it as my main router with my Internet modem?
Yes, you have two options here, each with advantages and disadvantages.
Option 1...connect the Time Capsule to your AirPort Extreme using an Ethernet cable connection. Turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule since your AirPort Extreme is already providing wireless.
Advantages...easy to configure, you can backup either over wireless or plug directly into one of the Ethernet ports to backup large files 3-5 times faster than wireless.
Disadvantages...none, except it requires a wired Ethernet connection to the AirPort Extreme.
Option 2....configure the Time Capsule as a wireless only hard drive.
Advantage.....you can locate the Time Capsule anywhere you want as long as it can receive a good wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme.
Disadvantages....harder to configure, backups will occur only over wireless.

    Greetings,
This is called an "Extended wireless network".
Read this article for details and steps on how to extend your TimeCapsule's network:

I am using a macbook pro with system 10.6.8. I just discovered that no recent files have been backed up to the external disk using Time Capsule.  There is a long list of backups including most recent but no recent files, for some weeks, have been backed up.  I did a full reset of Time Machine.  I disconnected the external drive and reconnected it. It is not a matter of file types, no files and no folders have gotten backed up.  Everything looks normal though unless one goes hunting for recent files on the back up.

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Using Time Capsule with Windows 7. Won't work when modem connected directly to Time Capsule, must be connected through another router.

Apple Time Capsule working with Windows 7 PC will not work when modem is connected directly to the Time Capsule.  Only when a Cisco Linksystem is connnected inbetween the modem and the Time Capsule.

Sorry but it needs much more specific info than this..
What modem? Is it cable or adsl or some other?? Is it pure modem or broadband router included?
Cable has specific issues different to adsl.
If you used to use the Cisco/linksys router.. and have not reset the cable modem it will not work. Turn off the cable modem.. it must be powered down.. if battery backup drop out the battery. Remove the coax cable.. get it off. Power down everything else in the network.
Plug in the modem to the TC wan port.
Power up the modem.. wait 2min
Power up the TC.. wait 2min
    Power up the clients.
If it has worked you will now be able to open the airport utility on the windows computer and see the TC has a public ip on the WAN port. If not redo the whole thing but leave the modem off.. 15min.. 1 hour.. 1 day.. ring the cable company and ask them to reset. Usually a few minutes is enough.
If you have a modem with combined router.. then bridge the TC. Just google search it.
For other combos.. tell us specifics..
