I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction please.

My original laptop which it was installed broke and I have just got a replacement today, I am installing everything again except I cannot find the DVD box for iwork09 anywhere, the house is now a mess, the baby loves that daddy has gone mad and my partner is wondering if I'm ever going to clear up.
I've installed a 30day online trial which will keep me until I clean up the house.
Does anyone reckon Apple give me a serial number to activate the trial or send me another disk?
Who do you think it is best to speak to first without lots of phone conversations?

I'm sure that the Apple response would have been different after a fire or a flood.
Probably not since the disc version requires no serialization - I suspect that Apple would replace the disc only if he could supply an identifiable melted or broken disc.
Back in the days before nearly universal internet downloads one of my clients lost everything when the building his office was in burned to the ground. I had copies of all his serial numbers and receipts of the software I'd purchased for him so all we needed were new installation disks. While most companies issued new disks (with most charging a nominal shipping & handling fee) several took the attitude that he should purchase new even though in each case we could supply proof of purchase. Adding insult to injury, his insurance company insisted replacement software wasn't their responsibility because it wasn't specifically written into the policy.

Problems with iWork syncing with iCloud

Hello there,
So I have a slight problem -- my iWork is failing to sync with my iCloud. I have the entire iWork suite installed on my MacBook, but for some reason, iCloud isn't registering with it. I go on iCloud and it mentions purchasing it. But, the problem is, I already have it purchased. If someone could help with this, that would be MUCH appreciated!

Once you have insured WiFi is on and Photo Stream is enabled, the only other thing I can think of is to make sure the Camera App is closed for the photo syncing to work.
From iCloud: Photo Stream Troubleshooting
"Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed."
You may even want to remove it from the Multitasking Bar just to make sure it's quit and see if it streams.

Problem with iWork

Hello Communitie,
Im having a Problem with iWork.
I have the newest MacBook Air with the latest Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3.
So some Time ago I donwloadet iWork ( Trial ) from the Apple Website.
I buyed it with a Serialnumber.
Now 1 year later keynote, Numbers and Pages can't start.
Every time if i cklick on Keynote nothing happens.
Than when i click the logo in the dock it loads my presentation and when I wanna open
my presentation nothing is happining.
' Close Keynote and try again'
Can somebody help me?
I'd reinstall 3x times.

Remove iWork completely, you must use an an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove everything. Appcleaner will do this and its free.
Once everything is deleted reinstall iWork and repair permissions:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First Aid: click on your system disc in the drive column and select Repair Disk Permissions

Um, slight problem with 6.0.2...

... as in, it has rendered my iPhoto useless. I cannot edit any photos - I just get white screen, and full screen mode causes the program to hang indefinitely. The probelm occurs with all of my 4,000-odd photos. Old ones, not so old ones, and even photos that I have imported today after upgrading to 6.0.2. I have not yet upgraded my Powerbook and I certainly won't be doing so given what it did to my Mini.
I searched and read about a similar problem with earlier versions of iPhoto 6, but I didn't have those issues until now. I see that some people managed to resolve this with elaborate fixes, but I do not want to go messing around with Terminal as I am not sufficiently knowledgeable. This is really, really frustrating and annoying - I am the only one with 6.0.2 issues? Come on Apple!

If you don't want to mess with the terminal download and open BatChmod and drag the iPhoto Library folder into its window. Set you as the owner and your permissions to all "+". Set you are the group and with all "+" and others +, -, -. Check the Apply ownership and privileges box and the unlock box. Then click on the Apply button.

Slight problem with video playback

Hi all,
I have a slight issue with the right hand side of my 20" iMac when using frontrow. Playing back DVDs is fine, good quality but when I try to playback a Movie that I have on the HD it has a white flickering line down the right hand side, its only a thin line but very annoying. It doesn't do it on VLC but on Realplayer and Frontrow. The files are AVIs if it helps.

Slight problem with the environment

I have written code that works fine when i run it tthrough JCreator.
But as soon as i run it via command prompt from windows plattform . it gives exception in main thread and gives the following message
C:\java>java RandomDice.java
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: RandomDice/java
The code is ok and works fine .
Can someone explain what causes this problem and how to handle it

Problem with iWorks attachments

I recently purchased the latest version of iWorks so that I can send attachments to my iPhone 3G, but I have not been able to open any attachments saved in any of the iWorks formats (.numbers, .pages or .key). The files have the proper extensions and appear with the appropriate icon in mail on the iPhone, but will only open to a blank screen or with a very small question mark in the upper left hand corner. I have tried sending the attachments using Entourage, Apple Mail and my Mobile Me (web mail) account all with the same result.
Is any one else having this problem? Any ideas on what is causing it?

I can convert the files to other formats like Word, Excel, Power Point and PDF. This works, but it is my understanding that the native format of iWorks should be recognized in email on the iPhone. I would like to skip the conversion step.

Problems with iWork '09 in Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion, I've got problems using the iWork '09 applications. I tried to update them, but it's still not possible to open or create a document. Would anyone have tips/ideas about this?

This is what FINALLY worked for me after reinstalling and uninstalling and doing everything else mention above, and with a call to Apple's Support.
Move the applications into the trash (of course) and then make sure you remove the folder called "iWork '09" in your Hard Drive Library (not your User Library) under Application Support. You can throw away your preferences too if you want, but I didn't. Then do a clean install. And THEN open the Mac App store and run the auto update (or just select Software Update from the apple menu).
At first I thought it was too simple of a fix, but it indeed fixed everything. All iWork apps opened, opened files (they were saying they couldn't be opened) and Keynote finally worked (it was crashing and erroring out). I can now use all iCloud features, and everything, no problem.
I am pretty tech savvy and felt silly for not even thinking of this and how easy it was to fix. I even used an app uninstaller to make sure it removed all of iWork's little bits, but it didn't do that last folder. It has been causing problems for a week and am so glad I contacted customer support. You can contact them if you just got Mountain Lion. Just sign up to have them call you or give them a call if this doesn't work for you.
Would love to hear if this worked for other people.
This worked perfectly, I've been fighting with Numbers and Pages for a couple of weeks trying to get them to update, because each time I would open any of my documents/files it would pop a window saying there was an update available, bring me to the Mac App Store then do nothing, no update would show. After following the procedure in the post you linked it worked. I'm finally updating. Whew, saved me money, I really didn't want to have to purchase all those again from the App Store.

Problem with iWork updates after iOS 5.1 install

iTunes showed updates for my iWork apps, but indicated I needed to update to iOS 5.1 first. I updated to iOS 5.1, and then did the updates for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. The Pages update was successful. The updates for Keynote and Numbers will not load, but now I can't use either app at all. The app shows up with the loading ticker at the bottom, but when touched, indicates "Waiting", then a message comes up that says "Unable to Download Application", with choices for "Done" or "Retry." "Retry" does nothing and the message comes up again. I've tried restarting and resetting with no success.

Here's how to fix this.
1) Get your playlist in the order you want in iTunes.
2) Create a new playlist and drag all the songs into it from the sorted playlist.
The next 2 are important!!!
3) Do not change the order using any of the column headers.
4) Do not select Copy To Play Order.
5) (Optional) Delete old playlist, rename new playlist.
Sync your device.
The problem is in the sorting. If you don't sort your playlist via the column headers you're OK.

Problems with iwork

I tried opening a "pages" document and rcvd error msg....files that iwork needs are missing ....I don't have the dvd as the software came preinstalled. When I attempt to update from App Store everything shows up to date. How can I get get Pages to work properly?

I was just waiting for the iTunes receipt, which came in yesterday.
I was charged the full €17.99 for Keynote! I can't remember how/where I originally purchased Keynote (and Pages and Numbers), but all I know now is that because I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I had to purchase again something that I already owned. I know I should have had the original download or original media, but I could not find it when I needed it.
I am truly sorry I upgraded to Mountain Lion. It broke more than it was worth and I am still finding problems.
For me the issue is that when I fire up Keynote, it is because I need to do something there and then. I don't start it up for idle amusement. On Sunday I need to get a presentation prepared. I did not need the time being wasted trying to fnd a solution; uninstalling the now defunct version; and then downloading and installing a new version.
Yes, the solution worked! But for me, it was a waste of time and money.
Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate the support, especially as it is freely given. My beef is with Apple on this issue.

A confusing problem with iwork 08

i'm posting again since my first effort has not gotten a response which resolved my issue. i will try to provide more detail.
yesterday, i launched pages 08, and it crashed on launch. then it crashed on launch a number of times in a row. out of curiosity, i tried keynote and numbers, and they too crashed on launch. i deleted the plists and tried again. made no difference.
i have two other accounts on the machine, root enabled long ago and rarely (almost never) used, and a non-admin account i created not that long ago for troubleshooting purposes. for fun, i tried iwork in both those accounts, and they launch and run with no problem. the original document i wanted to open launched in both accounts with no problem. so i guess the problem is unique to my main account.
for information purposes, one week ago, i was listening to a playlist in itunes when i experienced a sudden unexpected power outage. mac rebooted automatically, and a quick check of itunes seemed to show no issues, so i went merrily on my way. now it seems that possibly iwork was the corrupted casualty of that event.

i see a couple plist files mentioned here that i cannot find in either system or user library, specifically com.apple.CoreFoundation and com.apple.Foundation, as well as the others mentioned.

There are thousands of files in the system.
Searching for the corrupted file is like searching a needle in a haystack.
Applying what I wrote would give you a working system but if you refuse to do that, I just may tell you: good luck

I have a question about your fragment:

Why is it i = length - 1? The characters in Strings are indexed starting at 0. So, if you have the word "duke" 'd' is 0, 'u' is 1, 'k' is 2, and 'e' is '3'. The length of this String though is 4 (4 characters long). So, if you want to start with the last character in the string, you will start with character whose number is one less than the length. Did I explain that right?
What the loop I posted does is count backwards from the end of the String to the beginning (right to left). "for(i = length-1; i >=; i--)" translates to (in english) "start with i equal to length-1 and keep looping as long as i is not less than 0, decrementing i on each iteration". make sense?

Problems with IWorks

I had to restore my Mac, and saved everything I had to a hard drive, reinstalled OS, and then Snow Leopard, and then iWork.
Thinking that all my documents and such were safe and accessible I now find that when I open Pages I can't use the program, text is 'invisible' behind pink and existing documents are blank.
I tried to re-register the software from the number on the box but it was 'unrecognised'....
Please help... I'm screwed!

Hi Kelly, I understand that you panic. You have two or three things to do.
1. Update iWork through Software update check. If it doesn't find the updates go to _http://support.apple.com/kb/DL808_ it is for Pages, there might be updates for Keynote and Numbers to look for too.
2. Update Snow Leopard with the COMBO update, _http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048_ . Even if you updated through software update check download the Combo update and install it.
3. Repair permission when you are done. Use the Disc utility on your computer or get the free Onyx from _http://www.titanium.free.fr/_

I have a slight problem with aiport extreme

i have 2 airport extremes, one as the main base for internet and one up stairs for my tv and whatever. i have 3 5Ghz devices, one is xbox 360 (works great) 13" macbook pro (works great) then alienware m17x with a broadcom a/g/n card on Win 7. (not working to well. only connects on a 2.4Ghz when extend wireless is checked) but when i turn off the airport extreme up stairs it connects to the 5Ghz down stairs. i have also noticed it is a windows 7 problem. how? i have windows 7 on my macbook pro and when i get on the wireless up stairs it shows that i am connected at 2.4Ghz. what might cause windows 7 to connect to a 2.4Ghz when the airports are in a extend wireless setting?
my xbox and macbook pro can both connect to the 5Ghz up stairs and down stairs fine. its only the windows part of my macbook pro and my alienware m17x that connect at the 2.4Ghz when the wireless is extended. if i do not extend it they will connect to the down stairs airport extreme at 5Ghz.

This may not address your issue directly, but in general when there is more than one base station in a dual-band Wi-Fi network, a Wi-Fi client will connect to whichever one is seen as having the strongest signal (in some sense), regardless of band.

Hiya i have a slight problem with my iphone 4

Hy all
I have a little problem, my iphone 4 is water damaged and i know i need to get the dock unit and speaker changed as they dont seem to work cos theres no sound but it does activate the phone when plugged into a power source. I have changed for a new battery and the phone works fine but when the battery is connected and the phone is either on or off it gets extremely hot by the battery connector. As soon as i unplug the battery and turn the phone on by plugging into a power source the heat dissapears. I have 2 iphone 4 batterys and cant imagin they are the problem but could well be, was just wondering if anybody has had a similar problem. And yes iv done all the resetting and closing programs and things.
Could it be the motherboard? Although iv had that out and its clean as a whistle

The iPhone is not user servicable. You are walking around with a fire hazard in your pocket. Find a competent repair shop or purchase a new phone. Since you've opened it, it is no longer eligible for the $149 out of warranty replacement you could have gotten from Apple.
