Slim doesn't works but LXDE is ok
Hello (and sorry for my english )
I installed today arch linux on my laptop. At the beginning, everything was ok, slim worked fine. After playing with the policykit issue (see "I won the struggle against hal and policykit": http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65070 )and installing the networkmanager (both are working now), slim doesn't works any more - I get a black screen with no mouse and nothing. I think that the problem is slim itself, because if I tipe "startx" from the commandline as normal user (after having killed X as root) lxde starts and everything works. I tried to reinstall slim but it doesn't works.
I don't know which files to post, so here are two of them
[swisstux@inspiron ~]$ cat .xinitrc
exec ck-launch-session startlxde
[swisstux@inspiron ~]$ cat /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng polkitparser hal @cpufreq @laptop-mode @networkmanager @crond @alsa @slim)
it says only this:
slim: Stale lockfile found, removing it
it is a bit slow (too slow, on another PC it is 10 times faster), but it works if I start it from the command line. just on boot it doesn't works.
edit: here is the log of slim starting at boot and at the end the log of slim starting from the shell: http://pastebin.com/m4b6fad81
second edit: I removed every "@" from the daemon's list in rc.conf and now it works. but it is still really slow

I have a MacBook Pro bought in dec 2009. Currently has mountain lion osx installed. Worked like a dream until today. Randomly froze, so I restarted it. To find I got a grey screen. It wouldn't start. Also note my DVD drive doesn't work, but mountain lion was installed via App Store anyway.
So here's what I done so far:
tried resetting PRAM - No success
Done disk utility. Disk verified with no errors. I even re formatted disk. - no success starting.
Tried re installing mountain lion via download . It froze halfway installing -no success.
Tried backing up a time machine backup from my USB hard drive. It froze at 1% - no success
Tried booting from safe mode - no success
Tried the command line boot - no success.
Please someone help!Sounds like the hard dre has left the building, Died, in the Sh*tter, Gone to the hard drive resting place in the sky.
Buy a new drive connect it to the system with a SATA to USB adapter and see if you can install Mt Lion on that drive connected externally. If you can then the drive inside your system has failed.
Oh Wait!!!! You have the 2009 model. They are known for bad drive to logic board cables. So it may not be the drive itself but the cable going from the drive to the logic board. Do the same as above then if the system runs OK with the new drive connected externally install it in the system and see if it boots. If it does you are good to go. If it doesn't then it is more then likely the cable that hs failed.
I would suggest you also SAVE a copy of that download of Mt Lion and create a USB install drive from it using Lion Disk Maker, once you get your system up and running. -
I came into the store because my middle button was not working. Then they gave me a middle button that's on the screen of my phone. I got a new phone do now my middle button doesn't work but I still have the internal digital button, how do I remove it?

My external Apple USB Keyboard letters doesn't work, but the numbers do. Why and how can I fix this issue? Also, When I open the Keyboard Viewer, the letters will highlight only if I hold the modifier key(s) "Control" or "Control and Option". I really need help with this. I don't have any other computer to try it on, so I will have to test it on a friends computer sometime. But perhaps solutions that I can try right now? Thanks.
Hello there, IDuncan23.
The following Knowledge Base article has some great troubleshooting steps you can follow to work on resolving your keyboard issue:

I purchased an I pad giving my macbook to my husband. His photo stream doesn't work but mine still goes onto macbook . How can I stop that ?
Another item to consider is do you and your husband have your own iTunes accounts? If so then log out of iTunes on your old Macbook and log back in with your husbands ID and password. If not this post will self destruct in 10, 9, 8, ......

My screen doesn't work but I want to connect my phone to iTunes.

I am having a problem with facebook notifications. The sound doesn't work but appears as a banner. I've tried everything but restoring the phone. Is this a phone problem or an app problem? Has anybody experienced this problem and were they able to correct it?
1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
which will correct the problem...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3754
59&tstart=0
2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
accurate.
3) This?
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation
point
4) Restore the iPod
5) Try these...
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo and Will Not Start
Up
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo
I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I
posted for each one.

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again -

My iPod 5th generation, The charger doesn't work but it says it's charging. When I use another person's charger, the iPod charges fine. Has anyone had this problem?
Yes, the Lightning cables do fail sometimes. They are covered by the same one-year warranty as the iPod

HDMI doesn't work, but MDP- DVI- HDMI works
Hello!
I just got my new Mac Mini and tried to connect it to my TV (a Samsung LE22S8) over HDMI, but this doesn't work since the TV reports "unsupported resolution" (it's the TV's native resolution of 1680x1050, where I also checked all frequencies using an external program and they are as written in the manual of the TV).
However when I connect the TV over a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter (so that the TV is still using the HDMI input) it works fine.
So what's the difference between MDP->DVI->HDMI and HDMI->HDMI (all resolution and pixel frequency settings are identical)? What can I do to get the HDMI->HDMI solution working?It also appears that there is no conversion when HDMI-video is extracted from DVI, only that the pins are shuffled.
If direct DVI works on that port, then HDMI-video with an adapter should work as well. As I mentioned above, VGA is present on DVI-I ports on a separate set of pins, and VGA working or VGA not working has no bearing on your problem.
If a Mini DisplayPort is involved, the most common issue is that the Mini DisplayPort connector is not inserted firmly enough. It has a lot of pins and you have to press hard to seat it.
Other possibilities are that the resolution you selected is beyond the capability of the display device, or that the adapter is bad.
Is this the stock display card, or one you added later, and what model? -
Job doesn't work - but procedure does
Hi all,
I found some curious - for me.
I added a job for a procedure. The procedure contains 3 execute immediate with create table statements. The tables will be created on the current database, where the procedure runs. But the third statement select the datas from my table from another database (normal: select * from mytable ; 3.: select * from mytable@SERVER3). The 2 servers have a connection.
And now the curious:
If I start then procedure everything runs without errors or warnings. All tables will be created.
If I start the job manually (I use TOAD for Oracel: Execute this job immediately) it also runs fine.
But if the job starts automatically, the two select runs normaly, but the third doesn't. It must be in connection with the other database. Until now no admin here could help me or could say me how to solve the problem.
Now I hope that someone in these forum knows the problem and could help me.
Regards
JuergenHi,
I can't create a dblink - insufficient privileges. But our Admin created on. But it didn't worked. I mean, we had the same problems as before.
But I have a problem with the scheduler - which should solve the problem also. The folowing doesn't work:
declare
begin
dbms_scheduler.create_job (
job_name => 'tj_new_job',
job_type => 'PLSQL-BLOCK',
job_action => 'name_of_procedure',
start_date => sysdate,
repeat_interval => 'freq=dailiy;byhour=4');
end;
The problem is, nothing will happen. Is there anybody who knows, what I did wrong?
Thank you.

My Firefox closes automatically after being left idle and it's annoying. I uninstalled it, downloaded it again, reinstalled it and updated it and it still does it. What could be the problem?
