SLiM Problem

I put SLiM as a daemon and I have done everything in the wiki. But when the daemon loads, it fails and says x timeout 5 minutes, something like that. It goes too fast for me to see.

You should only have your login manager set as a daemon, or set in /etc/inittab, but not both

  • SLiM : problem with accents

    I have recently changed my password, and the new one contains accents. The problem is : when I enter an accentuated character in either the login or password field of SLiM, it does nothing but making the font bold.
    I got rid of this problem by making SLiM connect automatically, but I wonder how to actually fix this.
    Thank you for answering !

    Hi,
    Once we had a similar problem in Arabic and this is the response we've got from Oracle support. It resolved our issue and I'm sure it can do the trick for you if you set it for your own choice of language.
    NEXT STEPS:
    Q1 What is ESSLANG on the Essbase server set to?
    Q2 What is ESSLANG in the \hyperion\products\biplus\lib\fr.env file on the FR server set to?
    It maybe that you have experienced BUG 8392323
    If the ESSLANG on the Essbase and FR server(s) is set properly this shouldn’t be an issue, but it looks like you might be running into this bug.
    In order for essbase/FR to handle dimension-names, member-names, etc which
    contain special characters, the ESSLANG environment variable on the essbase
    server machine needs to be set properly:
    e.g.
    ESSLANG= Arabic - Saudi Arabia (ISO)@Binary
    Also a solution to this problem would be to use the Essbase APS ADM driver rather then the Essbase Native ADM driver. The APS driver can be used by setting the UseEssbaseEDS=1 in fr_global.properties:
    UseEssbaseEDS=1
    You also need to set the ESSLANG environment variable in the fr.env file rather then or in addition to the computers environment variables. To do this edit \hyperion\products\biplus\lib\fr.env and change the ESSLANG to:
    ESSLANG=S Arabic - Saudi Arabia (ISO)@Binary
    Once these changes have been made restart the services.
    Cheers,
    Alp

  • Muvo slim problem. pls he

    i just purchased a muvo slim no long ago. the first day i opened and connected the earphones to see if the player is working, i can't hear sound coming out from the right earphone.
    i tried many pairs of earphones and all does the same so i assume it's the player's problem and not the earphones.
    i reflashed the software (which was already the latest), re-formatted and still no luck.
    unfortunately i lost my receipt for the purchase so there's no way for refund or exchange.
    anyone can guide me to solve this problem? i've read that creative doesn't even take back if there's no proof of purchase?! even if the warranty seal isn't broken? or even if i'm willing to pay for the repair?
    wasted $50cdn on a player that didn't worked from day :smileyindifferent::smileyindifferent:

    You would have to speak to Customer Support directly to arrange a repair:

    If that doesn't work try again but with Ctrl-Alt-F2, etc.

  • No Games For Nano

    Is it just me or is apple stupid for not making there great new line of iPod ready games for the nano too. Seems kind of stupid to me considering the only slim problem would be small screen size??

    no, apple is NOT stupid for the games not working on the nano, because it CANT work on the nano. they did not CHOOSE to exclude you nano users, nano users CHOSE the nano over the video capable version. this is like complaining that its not fair that your DVD's dont work in your VCR. it just cant do it. it doesnt have the ability. and no software upgrade is going to help. it's the components inside your ipod that give it the ability to play videos and the games. the games you already have are primitive, with little graphics. your ONLY hope of getting new games on the nano, will be games similar to the ones you have now, like old school space invaders or something like that with little to no graphic detail. and in that case, send a suggestion to apple (which you can EASILY do) and wait.

  • Problem in login with slim to xfce

    I successfully installed xfce and it well works by starting with command "startxfce4".
    I installed slim for graphical login (according to the instruction given in the wiki), but it does not work.
    When uncommenting "exec startxfce4" in .xinitrc, after login it returns to the login page again.
    If not commenting "exec startxfce4" in .xinitrc, it login and stay with slim wallpaper. I mean login is successful, the problem is at "exec startxfce4" command, which lead to the login page instead of loading xfce.
    With the same settings, I was able to successfully use LXDM. Of course, for LXDM, I set it globally in /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf

  • Having problems with Slim...running ssh-add in my bashrc

    I have my .bashrc file setup to start an ssh-agent and prompt me for my SSH key's passphrase the first time it is executed.  This worked fine before I started using a login manager (Slim) since an interactive shell was started before I ran startx.  My problem now is that Slim must be running my .bashrc since it hangs while waiting for input (for ssh-add).  Since I have no interactive shell the only way I can end the hang is by switching over to tty6 and killing ssh-add.  How do I correct this?
    Here is the code that starts ssh-agent and runs ssh-add...
    SSH_ENV="${HOME}/.ssh/envrionment"
    function start_agent {
    ssh-agent | sed 's/^echo/#echo/' > "${SSH_ENV}"
    chmod 600 "${SSH_ENV}"
    source "${SSH_ENV}" > /dev/null
    ssh-add
    if [ -f "${SSH_ENV}" ]; then
    source "${SSH_ENV}" > /dev/null
    ps -ef | grep "${SSH_AGENT_PID}" | grep ssh-agent$ > /dev/null || start_agent
    else
    start_agent
    fi
    I also have
    [ -z "$PS1" ] && return
    at the top of my .bashrc.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Back when I used slim, I solved this by changing login_cmd in slim.conf from /bin/bash to /bin/sh.
    If you want to know why this works, read the INVOCATION section of the bash man page.

    Hopefully this isn't too much information (or completely irrelevant) for what might be a far simpler problem, but I'm just not sure what's going on. It might be worth noting that I only bothered to start switching to systemd today when I had to reboot and slim wouldn't start/get me into my WM(!) This is interesting to me, since I read (somewhere) that as of slim's last version, it would only work with systemd and not consolekit... but when I try:
    pacman -Qi slim
    It tells me that the last time I last updated/installed slim was November 5 of this year. Any ideas?
    EDIT:
    Latest nVidia drivers weren't working with my 7xxx integrated GPU. Downgrade to 304xx drivers or use nouveau.

    I tried starting X manually (typing in "startx" at the prompt, and I get the following errors:
    modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': No such device
    Fatal server error:

    Server terminated with error (1). Closing log file.
    xinit: giving up
    xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused

    It looks like I'm just having problems with my video card, but I have the proprietary nVidia drivers installed and X installed. The systemd wiki page mentions no changes that I would need to make to my xorg or nvidia configuration...

    I am trying to download a movie from itunes, but ithere's isn't enough room to download. I have a iphone4, have deleted every app possible. Slimmed down photos to hardly anything. I could never update to ios7 because of storage problems. Only 2.5 GB available out of 5GB after deleting everything. I'm also out of town and cannot connect to a computer. I have wifi access though. Help?

    Update
    OK, Today I went ahead & booted & tried again & it worked this time.
    Not sure why it didn't yesterday. Maybe the servers were just overloaded? Several others reported similar.
    Also yesterday when I ran Speedtest it showd download at about 25 mbps, This morning just before I re-started the download it was showing just above 30 mbps.  So maybe the internet was less busy? Or at least the parts between me & the test server.
    & so far it is working ok.

  • Slim long password problem

    Hi,
    I just reformatted and have decided to try slim/xfce4 out. I managed to install it all without a hitch so far, but I can't seem to use long ~30 character passphrases with slim. I can log in through the shell no problem, but slim just refuses, although it works fine with smaller passwords. I have already checked that I am entering them correctly and I am pretty sure that's not the problem. I wanted to ask if anyone else has had any similar problems?

    CBJ wrote:
    I can confirm that SLiM fails on password of 30 or longer characters. 29 and below works great.
    Curious about why one would need a password this long, though.
    Hmm. yeah,  not many will .. but predefining limits does not seem like a good idea.

  • SLiM + XFCE4 systemd problems

    I've recently switched to using systemd from initscripts. Generally it's been ok, except that I'm having problems with SLiM and XFCE4.
    I've enabled the SLiM service (`systemctl enable slim.service`). But everytime I log in, past the main login window, I always get a blank screen without any signs of XFCE4 activity. I can still use XFCE4, but I have to start X manually from the console every time I boot up (`exec startxfce4`).
    Also, in the XFCE4 session, the buttons for restart, shut down, suspend, and hibernate can't be clicked. I can only click log out.
    I've tried the suggestion in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … ce-session, but I'm still having this problem.
    Any pointers on how to fix this?

    carongangoo,
    Sorry to do this to you, but can I please get you to start a new thread?  This one is two and a half years old and a lot has changed in that time -- systemd, xfce4 and slim.  I've not seen most of the contributors to  this thread in a long time.
    I am going to close this thread; feel free to link back to this thread from your new one if you so wish.  The nice thing is that you will be the owner of the new thread.

  • Shockwave Slim Download Has a Problem

    Helllo. I am writing to give a complain that the download link for Shockwave slim have a mildly serious problem. The problem is when I wanted to download Shockwave slim which should be the file size of 3.33MB, but instead gave me a huge file of 1.06GB of absolute nothing in the file, and it was a utter waste of time to download the file, mind you. Can it please be repaired immediately?

    You can try "exit" or "console" in slim as username (where you would put your username).
    USAGE AND SPECIAL USERNAMES
    When started, slim will show a login panel; enter the username and password of the user you want to
    login as.
    Special usernames:
    console
    open a xterm console
    exit quit slim
    halt shutdown the machine
    reboot reboot the machine
    suspend
    power-suspend the machine
