Slingbox viewing on my tv

I have 3 iPod's and 2 iPads, and purchased nearly a thousand dollars via iTunes. (Apple has tons of my money) I also bought Slingbox pro so I could watch my tv from any of them. I was told I could also hook them up to a tv and watch my tv from anywhere on a big screen.  I bought the Slingbox apps on my iPod Touch and my iPod touch, and went to the Apple store and was told I need the "Apple TV out composite cable (another 30 bucks), so I buy this cable and everything works great for a couple months.  I know sign on to my Slingbox app, and it still works great, but when I now hook up my Apple tv cable to a TV all I get is sound on the TV and the tiny picture on my iPod,, NO MORE VIDEO OUT TO MY TV!!!!!!!!   So what changed???? Apple take away more functionality in one of my last updates?????  I hooked up my trusty Android phone (which also has Slingbox app) to my TV and it works great!!! The problem is I use my phone for a phone,, I expect the thousands of dollars in equipment I purchased from Apple to fulfill these simple tasks (I consider viewing anything Apple lets me view on my tiny iPod screen to be viewable on a larger screen via the EXPENSIVE TV out cable they sold me)  So what is wrong or changed?  Am I having an Apple garage sale? And switching to all Androids ? And tablets?

Try just resetting the iPod:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that doesn't help, try removing the Slingbox app and reinstalling, and if that still doesn't work try a restore of the iPod:

  • Can i use iPad slingbox app to view recorded show on a TV?

I want to connect iPad to TV by cable and watch recording from Slingbox app on the TV...similar to how I can watch netflix movie on TV using my iPad and the Netflix app.  I do not have AppleTV, but use a cable between TV and iPad.

Don't have an answer, but this guy http://tidbits.com/article/12126 says you can do it, but doesn't explain how. I would love to know - using YouTube on Apple TV is a complete pain cos you have to enter your search terms using the Apple Remote and it takes forever.

  • If you have a Slingbox and an Xbox 360, this will solve 360 connection prob

I got my TC on Wednesday of this week and starting hooking everything up. I had a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, Printer, and Slingbox Pro that I wanted to hook up. Slingbox, PS3, Wii, and Printer all work fine, but the Xbox would not cooperate as many of you have found out. So, I took my old linksys router that I was not going to use anymore, turned off its wireless functionality, so it simply acted like a signal pass through with multiple ethernet outputs. I unhooked the Slingbox from the part I speak of below, and attempted to use the linksys to split an incoming signal to the Slingbox and the Xbox 360, which ended up working like a charm.
When I bought my Slingbox, I knew it was not going to be able to be close to my router, so I purchased one of their additional products (links below to products) call the Sling Link Turbo. Most of you are probably aware of this but for those of you that are not, it is a neat device that sends your internet signal through the electrical wiring in your house to a different location where it is plugged in another wall outlet. The catch is that both plugs have to be directly into a wall, it cannot go into a power strip or surge protector. I had this product by default on Wednesday and it helped me fix the problem, so it might benefit those of you that are interested to pick one up, the single port is not that expensive.
    http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slt
    http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slt4
Moving on now, I connected the Slink Link Turbo to the back of the TC and plugged it in. Then I plugged its counterpart into the wall behind my TV so it could sit next to the Slingbox on top. I then ran an ethernet cord from the Sling Link Turbo to the WAN port on the Linksys router behind the TV. Then I ran an ethernet cord from the output ports on the linksys to the Xbox 360 and another cord to the Slingbox.
This is where things got tricky because I had to forward the ports in order for the slingbox to work. I set the TC to reserve the IP 192.168.0.200 for the Linksys router. I set my linksys router to be have a static IP at 192.168.1.200 (not a typo) and I set the DNS Server to 192.168.0.1, which is the TC's router IP. Then I set the port forwarding on the TC to open port 5001 to 192.168.0.200 on all ports, Public and Private UDP and TCP. Then I set the Linksys router to open port 5001 to IP 192.168.1.253, which is the Slingbox.
Do not set any static IP for the Xbox 360, it works great without it and if you set it it probably is not going to work.
Now, hold down the reset button on the Slingbox for 20+ seconds to reset it completely, run through setup, takes about 3-5 minutes, and make the IP address 192.168.1.253 and leave the other settings as is. If it will not work, change the router to either IP 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, whichever one it did not show up as wanting to be. Then make sure the port is 5001 and you should be good to go on the Slingbox even remote viewing. If you have problems here, pop me an e-mail.
Now for the Xbox 360, plug it in, turn it on, test connection settings, it should work perfectly on all accounts, mine has so far.
I now have a PS3, Wii, Printer, Xbox 360, and Slingbox Pro running on the N connection, I did not have to downgrade the settings to b/g for the Xbox 360 to work. However, my linksys router is old and only supports G, so I'm not sure if my N signal translates through to the Slingbox and Xbox, but they still work great. And the rest of my house can use the N signal with no problem.
If you have any problems please e-mail me and I will try to help as much as I can.
    Good luck.

I have a question which I'm hoping you can answer. My dad lives in the states and has a slingbox connected. I live in another country and watch american tv through internet (i.e. through the slingbox he set up). I also have an xbox 360, which is connected to the TV in the living room. Do you know if it's possible to wirelessly stream the computer content (i.e. the slingbox content) to the tv in the living room through the xbox?
    Thanks

  • How to setup Slingbox AV with Linksys E2500

I just purchased a new Linksys E2500 and I am unable to setup internet viewing with it.  I have went in and done the port forwarding and still I have not had any success.  I would appreciate any helpful information.

So the concern that you said is the configuration of the Router ( E2500 ) at home.. So could please inform us the name of the ISP( Internet Service Provider )... So it all depends upon the ISP( Internet Service Provider ) setup...
If you want to configure the router with the help of the CD so for that you need to unistall the existing Cisco Connect Software from the computer...
Reset the Router and power cycle the network...Make the following connectivity:
     Modem ----> Router -----> Computer
They all should be connected with the Ethernet Cable... Then install the Cisco Connect Software... It will help you in configuring the Router...
As far as Slingbox is concern you did port forwarding but until and unless you are not online it would work....

  • Streaming video on Curve/SlingBox

Is there any software that will enable me to watch streaming video on the Curve?  I have a slingbox and would like to use it on the Curve.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Sling Media has developed an application to view your Sling Box on your Blackberry.  It was demo'd at the CES2008 show in January.  At this time, it is not yet available on the Sling website.  After conversation with SlingMedia support, they do not have a firm Release date for this service yet.

  • Serious video streaming problems (ichat and slingbox)

My 1.8Ghz SSD Macbook Air (10.5.2) doesn't seem to be able to handle even low quality video streaming. After a few of minutes of viewing, the image on the Slingplayer or from incoming ichat conference starts freezing and the laptop becomes almost impossible to control (skipping cursor movements, incredibly slow typing on ichat).
I can see what happens to the CPU thanks to Menumeters: one of the two cores stops completely (0% activity), probably to avoid excessive temperature increase.
The bottom line though is that I can't use ichat video or my slingbox (both perform very well on my other Macbook).
Is there a way to fix this?

Sounds like a heat issue that others are running into. Not good

  • Setup E2500 with Slingbox Solo

Slingbox no longer uses software, but is now web based. I got a new computer and when I go to the site it can't locate my slingbox on their network. Does anyone have a step by step instruction on how to address this issue?
When I go to the site and sign in, it loads the application but then scolls as it looks for my box on the network until it times out. Slingbox directory shows my slingbox, but it says unconfigured.
I called tech support, where I was told my 90 days for free support had expired 2 weeks ago.  The port forwarding instructions I found on the internet made references to going into the router and selecting port range forwarding and have start and end port of 5100 and then enable that port.
When I go to support on the slingmedia page, it displays my slingbox with Slingbox status alert, software warning.   Instructions state go to slingmedia site and look for update, but if my box is not on thier directory, I can't download update.

After you put your modem in bridge mode, you'l need to reset your E2500 to factory defaults and reconfigure following these instructions:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&articleid=3687
and then set your mtu manually.  It's probably 1492, but your can check here:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=8&vw=1&articleid=386
To take the modem out of bridge mode, just press and hold the reset button on the modem.  But there's rarely a need to ever take it out of bridge mode.

  • VIEWING ONLINE TV WITH IPHONE

My girl just bought a 3G. She is from Vietnam and when on her computer, watches online TV from sites like http://vietnamlive.tv (Vietnamese programing).
When we view this site on the iPhone, the programs do not play. I am not sure if we need a player download of some kind (Quicktime, Flash or Other).
    Comments?

You currently have a few options for viewing video on the iPhone, but unfortunately not from the site you want. The Safari browser on the iPhone does not support Flash, so you have to use an application to view video. Currently you can view video with the YouTube, Joost, and Orb applications. YouTube and Joost play video from their respective web sites. YouTube will work over both cellular data networks (Edge/3G) and WiFi. Joost requires WiFi. Orb will work over either network but requires a streaming PC server be configured (your home PC with a video tuner card and the Orb server software running). Hopefully soon Sling will release an iPhone SlingPlayer which will allow Slingbox video streams to also play on the iPhone, but no word on when that will be available. Hope this info helps.

  • Slingbox needs to be "On" for my Airport Extreme to put out Wi-Fi?

I have a SlngBox (device used to transmit your incoming TV signal to the interenet for remote viewing). The problem I am having is that after plugging the SlingBox into my Airport Extreme via ethernet, my airport extreme no longer transmits interenet through Wi-Fi UNLESS I have my slingbox "On"... Here's the setup: Cable Modem <ethernet> Airport Extreme <ethernet> SlingBox.
My Mac and iPhone seem to be connected to the Airport Extreme via Wi-Fi, but there is NO internet signal UNLESS my SlingBox is turned "On"....Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and how I might be able to fix it? Thanks!

You can install AirPort Utility on either a Mac or PC, but there would be no reason to make any changes to your existing configuration on the AirPort Extreme unless you need to do so.

  • Slingbox, Time Capsule and Verizon router setup

    So here is my setup:
Verizon router with wireless ON.  Time capsule set to share an IP address(not in Bridge mode).  This gives me the double NAT error message.
Sling catcher hooked into the Time capsule on one end and to the Slingbox on the other.
So, I hooked the slingbox up to the verizon router, configured it.  Then hooked the sling catcher to the TM and ran setup again.  Set up port forwarding per the instructions.  Things seem to work fine, although under the slingbox directory it says that I am not set up for internet viewing.
However, i CAN connect via wifi and over 3g on my iphone fine.  With WIFI, I am using my Time capule for wireless not the verizon wifi.  The last time I tried to turn off the verizon wifi i don't think the slingbox worked.  The last time I tried to set up the time capule under bridge mode the slingbox did not work.  If I am in bridge mode there is no option to setup port forwarding.
So I know that my setup is not correct but it is working.  The problem is the speeds.  I have a slingbox pro- getting about 1200-1400 kbs over the internet, and about 500-550 over wifi on the iphone.  I'm getting about 450-550 over 3g on the iphone.  This seems too slow.
    Any suggestions?

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Insure that the setting for Router Mode = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update and allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart
    Very important......
Power off both the Verizon modem/router and the Time Capsule
    Wait a minute or two
Start up the Verizon modem/router first and allow it to run a full minute
Then start up the Time Capsule

  • Slingbox

    Hi all-
I have been debating on whether to buy a slingbox and thought i'd write and explain my setup to hear some advice from all of you. I live at home with my family, and do not have cable in my room so I never had a television. My sister in the room nextdoor just bought a 780p LCD TV for her room, which also has the router in it (Apple Airport Extreme). My computer is a newer intel based iMac 20 inch, so viewing television on it would be nice for my room. The thing holding me back was that I was worried that my sister and I could not watch television at the same time. Would we BOTH be able to watch seperate channels off the same HD cable box, while she watches off the TV and I watch on the computer, at the same exact time? What is your advice on the best device to buy? Would I be fine with the solo, or should I go for the pro, or buy the pro-hd in hopes that I can stream HD content to my computer soon. Thanks all.
    Matt

I have a Slingbox and I LOVE it, but as the previous poster said, you will have to be watching the same thing at the same time. There is also a noticeable delay between the local TV and the Sling player on your computer (usually about a second if you're on the same networks.)
If you have an HD cable box and a can afford it, my instinct says that you should get the HD version so you don't have buyer's remorse later, but I don't have any personal experience with this model to offer any advice. We have a SOLO and I know that it can take a HD Component input if your cable has that as an option.

  • Time Capsule & Slingbox Problem

I just hooked up my Time Capsule today. Network is working; however, one application, my Slingbox is not working. For those who don't know, Slingbox allows you to watch your home TV/DVR, etc. from anywhere in the world.
My Slingbox is directly tied in to a NetGear machine on the other side of the house in order to talk to my Network. Worked great on my Linksys, but it doesn't appear the NetGear is talking to my Time Capsule causing viewing problems for my Slingbox.
    1) How can I tell/see what is on my network?
    2) Is there something I must do to allow the NetGear to be seen & accepted on to the new network?
    Thanks...

It is not an effect I can recall seeing.. but I don't run extended wireless except for the occasional test.
I would recommend you load 5.6 utility on computer.. easier on Lion but can be done with Mountain Lion.. one such method below.. so you can view the log.. this might help you see what is happening.. in v6 of the utility as used in Lion and ML.. there is no access to the log.. why Apple why do you do this??
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
You might need to allow other downloads to work, as security is tighter in ML.. go to preferences and security and set it to allow. Or control click the icon for unpkg and it will request permission to open it.
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Configuring WRT54G for slingbox setup

Hello all. I recently purchased a slingbox so i can view all my favorite tv channels from home while im away at school. the setup was almost complete except when it came time to set up remote viewing. for this, the setup wizard told me my router could not automatically be configured and needed to be done manually which means i would have to manually assign my slingplayer an IP address as well as a port number. seeing as i have no clue how to do either of these, does anyone with experience with the slingbox have any advice?

I just finished installing a slingbox last week, so I think I may be able to help.
First, I will say that setup was a breeze using the BETA Slingplayer for windows.
You can set an IP for your slingbox in the setup up otions for the slingbox (setup assistant > setup internet viewing, in the beta software).
The port you want is port 5001 (by default) for the slingplayer. You will want to forward this port to the IP you assigned above. This forwarding can be dont in your router's setup page (usually under apps and gaming > port range forwarding, for linksys routers)
    Hope this helps a bit!

  • Viewing Ipod touch screen on TV

I have cables to connect my Ipod Touch to my TV and I can watch download shows on my TV when I turn on the TV out, but it doesn't work with other Apps. It would be great if I could view my slingbox app or others on my TV, is there an App or something that will let me do this?

It looks as though this post has been modified by administrators (while I was reading it) and the original comments have been removed.
anyway I didn't tell him/her how or anything specific I just said you can't unless you jailbreak it, I figured that was ok in the fine line of the rules of the forum
Even if it were - and I'm not convinced it is - your comment would be taken as advising someone to jailbreak, especially taking into account what you actually wrote. Your revised comment still effectively advises something contrary to "best advice".
If an iPod is "jailbroken", Apple has no way of knowing how the iPod then works and therefore Apple would find it difficult or impossible to fix bugs. The same applies to anyone who contributes to this forum. There would be no way of knowing if a symptom was caused by Apple, the iPod itself or a jailbreak.
So, roaminggnome's short and concise reply is a suitable answer. The original poster could send "product feedback" to Apple asking for that feature. (That doesn't mean Apple will add it though!)
