Slo-mo clip plays sound in original speed.

Hi,
I've been using soundtrack for a while but I haven't figured out the proper workflow to fix my slo-mo clips in soundtrack. Right now I'm editing a short film and there's an extreme close-up of a guys mouth saying a funny line. I've changed the speed in Final Cut pro, but when it's transported to Soundtrack the sound is back in it's original speed. I've tried time stretch but can't seem to get that to work, is there another way of maintaining the same speed on the sound?

Keyframes in Soundtrack are known as "envelope points" they are used for audio volume or panning. You can bend the envelope to change the value over time by adding envelope points. To add an envelope point, double click the envelope line at the desired location.
The process of changing envelope values over time is call automation. First, it's a good idea to turn off the snap feature so that you can create envelope points anywhere you wish. Otherwise with snap on, you can only create envelope points on the nearest gridline.
1. Press N, or click snap button at the bottom of the timeline to turn off snapping, if it's not already off.
2. Solo the clip that you are working with.
3. Move the playhead to first location where your change in volume will start.
4. Press Ctrl-up arrow once to view the track size larger.
5. Double-click the volume envelope at the playhead position to add an envelope point at that position.
6. Add another envelope point at your next volume level change. Now that you have two envelope points, you can modify of them to raise or lower the level of the volume. Continue the process until all the volume levels you desire are added. When you click on each envelope to raise or lower the volume the volume level will appear next to the cursor to indicate the change.
Be sure to un-solo the track before you play it back. And save your work. Prior to playing the track back as a copy of your original file. Make sure it is what you want then save the other file and delete the copy.

  • Slugs / clips playing at wrong / high speed

I've been having an issue with PPCS5 for a while now. Video imported from my iTouch (720p) and Flip Cam (720p) videos play too fast (appears to be double-speed) when previewing video clips (slugs). However, when I drop the video into the timeline it plays the proper speed. It makes it very difficult to place the in and out points on the slug. I've tried reinstalling PP CS5 but to no avail. I'm working on a Mac Pro tower with dual quad-core Intel Xenon processors. I tried the same video clips on a different computer and it worked fine (27 inch iMac with i7 processor) so I'm thinking there's some sort of corrupted preference file. Any clues??

I believe I have solved this problem. I tried using a problem clip on a different computer and it played properly. So I started looking comparing preferences between my machine and that computer. The ONLY difference was the audio in/out preference. My machine uses a Creative SBX surround-sound card. There are two preference options for using that card (don't know what the difference is). I switched it to the second preference and now video clips in the bin appear to be playing fine. This only seemed to effect .MP4 files, and files from the iTouch/Phone, or from a Flip cam. Don't know why, might be some way the audio compression was handled.

  • Why won't iMovie voiceover clips won't play sound!

I've been using iMovie '11 version 9.0.9, to make a school assignment. I started two days ago and it was allw orking perfectly fine, until today when some of the clips won't play. It started after I deleted a voiceover clip to replace it with a song from itunes. When I tried to add the song it showed that it was there but it played no sound. I managed to get that song working by dragging the song onto the whole project and then dragging and pinning it onto the parts I needed it.
After I got that working I tried to add new voiceover clips to the project but then there was no sund coming from that clip either! After about an hour of searching and fiddling I had just about given up when I played my project in the background and ran it through untill the end and I heard the last clip I added, that wasn't working before but now is.
At this point I recorded another clip to add thinking my problem was fixed, but alas that voicover clip played no sound. I thought I might try running through the entire project again to see if that would help like the last time. But no, that was not the case, in fact even more sound clips have stopped working.
I read in a lot of other threads that it might be a corrupt clip and it will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it (or a spinnign circle?), but none of the clips have this! Is there something I need to do to see the triangle, if that is the problem? Or is it something completely different?
Please help me I desperately need to get this working by tonight!

Sorry, but there's a dedicated discussion forum for iMovie, where you might be luckier finding help.

More like whoever coded the add-on is an idiot. Google used a brilliant piece of HTML5 to bring the iconic Pacman to the masses for its 30th Anniversary, and not only do people not recognize its ubiquitous sounds, people are annoyed at Google and Firefox, not the creators of the add-on.

  • I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro. There are two clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. It is extremely frustrating, can anyone help?

I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro X. There are two separate clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening - any thoughts/help?

The two HD clips were purchased from itunes (MPEG - 4) and converted to .mov for use in Final Cut Pro. Project properties - 720p HD 1280x720 (60p)
    Is this enough information?

  • Clips play at half speed, why?

Why do some HD movie clips play in half speed if dropped on the timeline, but others from the same play just fine. This happens on G4 2x1GHz PowerMac with iMovie 6, the footage is 6 h of HD video from Canon HV20.

If clips have imported at slower than real time ..which can happen with slower Macs.. then sometimes those clips, and their audio, continue to play at half-speed after importing.
I've found that quitting iMovie and then restarting usually brings them back to normal speed, because that empties the program's "cache" memory, so it reads the clips afresh from the hard disc.
If that doesn't fix it, sometimes chopping off a frame from the start of the clip restores everything to nroaml ..oops! ..er, "normal"!

  • Play sound clip as background music while other animation continues? (InDesignCS5)

BACKGROUND: I'm creating an invitaion with simple animation in InDesignCS5 that will be exported as a swf and html file to be played on the web.
I've inserted an MP3 file that "plays on page load."  I've got several other items (text) animated that also "plays on page load" but the timing panel has them in a certain order. I've placed the MP3 file on the top of the timing list, as I want it to start first.
PROBLEM: The sound clip plays all the way through before allowing the other animations to start.
I tried to group the sound clip with other animations in timing panel (using "play together"), but that ruins the order for everything else.
I tried to "Loop" the sound to see what happens, and on the second time it plays, the rest of the animation occurs... just like I wanted.....But not until it starts to loop the sound, which I don't want to do.
Any suggestions for having the sound play as background music to my entire swf file?

    Hello there,
in order for a sound to play together with other animations you need to put the sound on top of the sequence AND group all animations together with the sound. You can then add delays to the animations if you want them to display in a sequence and not at the same time. If you need more than a single sequence (eg. two audio files speaking in the same slide) you can then add another separate group of audio+animations.

  • Slo mo video playing at regular speed

I've recorded several videos in slo mo mode on my iPhone 6 Plus and they've worked just fine.  However, today I recorded two videos in slo mo mode at 240 fps, and when I went to play them back, they played back in normal speed.
The videos have the circle icon in the lower right corner of the screenshot indicating slo mo mode, and they also appear in the slo mo album on the phone.  But they play back in normal speed.
When I exited to the home screen, then reopened the camera app, it recorded a subsequent video correctly.
Anyone else with this experience?  Any advice?

    Hi,
Just adding my case to the list.  After syncing the slo-mo slider is gone and also other icons like the "favourite" hart shape, the "more" icon (small circle with 3 dots) and the trash icon... all these are missing.
While in the iPhone all videos and photos have these options / icons available. Not after syncing. And slo-mo videos play at normal speed in the iPhone. In Aperture and iPhoto in my macbook pro the same videos play "slow" as they should...

Is this a Yosemite issue? Not being able to play older QuickTime 7 files properly? Maybe I'm overcomplicating a simple issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of  "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
    1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
    2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
    3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
    4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
    5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file.

  • How to play 100fps at normal speed?

    Hi folks
I have material which the DOP says is shot at 100 fps. (Shot on Sony fs700). I want to play that at normal speed in my 1080 25p FCPX Project. By normal speed I mean real time.
What bugs me is that in the clip info in FCPX the material shows as 1080 25p material. I've tried speeding up the material to 400 %, but it doesn't look right. Too fast. Is there any other way other than to mess around with speed %?
    Hope you can help.
    All the best

Karsten, you seem to have struck a chord. It seems there's a difference between what the DOP says and what the iMediaHUD says (clever tool, cheers for that). See report below.
    Karsten wrote:
    And one thing irritates me:
If I read the cams manual correctly, it records in AVCHD - so, how did you convert it to mov?
When I import it, FCPX doesn't let me 'leave files in place" - I'm able to tick the box, but FCPX stil copy it. And when I click to reveal the material in finder the "original material" is now .mov.
For the report I dragged the real original material. I took an .mts file from the AVCHD bundle and this is what the report wrote:

  • Clip plays back TOO FAST

I recently imported some HD footage into iMovie 6.0. The import process was smooth, as in I could view it loading at an appropriate pace from both my camera viewfinder and the iMovie screen.
However once the clip is imported, when I click 'Play,' the playback runs the clips at twice the clip's original speed. 2x. Is there a setting I have wrong? The audio is shoddy as well. Why don't iMovie play the clips at a proper speed with proper audio?
Note: The audio and video play just fine on VTR mode on the camera.

    Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem. Inspection showed that I'd inadvertantly set the camera on long play when shooting the footage. It seemed fine when importing into imovie but playback appeared to be double speed. I posted a question on this forum but couldn't get a satisfactory solution. Re-setting the camera and reimporting didn't help. However, I borrowed a friends camcorder and reimported the same video from that. It worked. I can't see why but it did.
Perhaps sommeone will come up with a better answer.
    Regards
    Rob

  • How do I stretch or compress an audio clip without changing the original?

When I drag an audio clip, like footsteps, from the browser library into the timeline or sound editor, and then time stretch it or compress the speed, all instances of that clip seem to change with it. How can I make different speeds of the same clip in various instances in the timeline? And do it so that the original clip from the browser is still at the original speed when I drag it in again?

This is simple in iMovie 11 (drag and drop), but in iMovie 08, you can still do it.

  • Lost Mode and Play Sound are "Pending."  However, iCloud indicates that it connected and backed up to iCloud at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)

    Hi,
My wife lost her iPhone two weeks ago while on vacation in London (cell service inoperative in foreign country).  Using Find My iPhone app on my device, I activated Lost Mode and Play Sound.  However, both are listed as "Pending," since it those actions require the phone to connect to the internet (wifi only due to no cellular data coverage.).
We recently returned home and purchased a new iPhone.
However, when looking to restore the apps/settings from her old phone using a previous iCloud backup, iCloud indicates that the old phone connected to iCloud and backed up the original phone at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)?
If the phone was activated and connected to the internet via a wifi signal, shouldn't it immedately lock, show up on the map, Play Sound, and send me an email that the phone has been found?
I also read somewhere that if running iOS 7, the iCloud website interface enables you to track previous locations, for instance if the phone moves from wifi hotspot to hotspot.  Is that true?  If so, how do I do that?
Thank you for your time, and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    - Matt
