Slooooow iPhone photo import then abort
iPhoto can’t properly import photos from my iPhone 4. To be imported were 6 movies (all max 2 min long) and 4 photos. The progress bar moved very, very slowly and wasn’t even at 50% after 18 minutes then an error message appeared that the import could not complete because there were problems with a photo.
On second attempt I tried to aborted import after iPhoto remained on “Preparing to import” for 4 minutes, but aborting isn’t working/happening properly
Of note: CPUs are more or less idle during all of this.
There is enough room on my hard disc and I everything is updated to latest version (iPhone, OS, etc).
Anyone else having this problem or does anyone have suggestion what could help?
Yes, I have this problem too with my iPhone 4. I try to abort it but it doesn't stop, it just continues to import photos (or try to). I was able to import photos from my wife's iPhone 4.

Why do my iPhone photos import all scrambled?
Some but not all of my photos import with this scrambling through them. They don't appear like this until they are imported through iPhoto. Any help?
This is an ongoing issue for some users. There is no definitive fix. Some foks find that a second attempt at a download will get damaged photos without any issues.

Iphone photo import onto windows PC
I have many photos on my iphone that I now want to back up onto a windows XP/7 PC - i have them arranged in many different albums underneath the camera roll
I want to import them onto my PC using the same folder structure and had a few questions
1)I have been told the best way to do this is sync using i tunes - where will this dump the photos to on my PC and will it retain all the different album names?(I have had problems doing this before using windows explorer as it just dumps many random alphanumeric folders)
2)I have also been told windows photo gallery (downloaded as part of windows essentials) might be useful?but would it retain my album names or just dump a mass of photos saved by date when taken? Can anyone answer this? I organize my pics from my camera on my PC, sync them to my phone neatly into folders. But what about the pictures I take with my phone?? I want the pictures I take on my phone to be organized in folders on my PC. Is that too much to ask?
BTW - I'm not an "Apple" person... I like the iphone a lot... but have a huge dislike for all else Apple - for this very reason - you have no control over the software. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. -
IPhoto 11 Crash After iPhone Photos Import Corrupted Library, Cause?
Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro, iPhoto 11 v9.3.2, launched fine. Connected iPhone. Transferred 17 photos fine. Chose Delete Photos from iPhone. It crashed.
Relaunched to read that there were inconstencies in the library.... took several long stressful minutes as it "repaired" the database. No idea why it happened, or what long term impact will be. Faces spinning wheel is still going on, so no idea if that means having to painfully re-add/remove/change names from faces on thousands of pics.. Meantime, Console shows this, if it helps locate the problem or others have it too.... Thanks.

Why won't iPhone photos import into iPhoto?
When I try to import photos from iPhone 4S to iPhoto '08 I get a message saying it doesn't recognize the files. I can see the photos fine on my phone and can even text message and email them without any problem. Every time I try to import new photos I get this same message. Therefore, I have not been able to import any new photos or videos I've taken for over a month. Please, anyone out there know how to solve this problem?
Good to read and note error messages - it turns out that there is a reason to have them - they often explain problems and the solution to the problem
Do you have any new photos in the camera roll that have not been previously imported? have you triedPhotoStream - that is generally the prefered way to import photos now? What happens when you click on the phone in the source pane?

Contact 'screenshot' in my iPhone photos...?
I noticed that a 'screenshot' (literally) of one of my contacts has been placed in my iPhone camera folder, as I now have it in iPhoto within all the recent iPhone photo imports...
Has this happened to anyone else? How did it happen - and can I ensure it wont happen again...
Jules.Your iPhone can take a screen-capture by holding down the bottom 'HOME' button
for 2-3 seconds, and then depressing the top 'RESET' button momentarily while
continuing to hold down 'HOME'. You will see a simulated white 'flash' on the iPhone
screen, and the screen capture will appear as a photo in your latest Camera Roll.
Unintended shots can be deleted from the Camera Roll just like any photo you might
take using the iPhone's camera. -
i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal. -

suppose you create an album of photos imported from your iPhone with roll, then delete those photos on the roll ... because they were also deleted on the album?
If you create an album directly on the phone, then if you delete the photo from its original album then it will also be deleted from all albums that you've copied it into; if you just remove it from the newly created album then it will just be deleted from that album, it will still be in its original album and any other albums that you've copied it into.

I recently plugged in my iPhone, only to see that when the contents of the device were shown in iPhoto, there were triples, or "triplicates" of every photo (this put the total around 10,000 photos). Meanwhile, on my iPhone's Photos app, everything looks normal with only single photos being shown.
I toiled over how to remedy the problem, and found I had no other choice but to spend the MANY hours syncing thousand upon thousands of duplicate photos/videos to my iPhoto library. I then broke down and purchased Duplicate Annihilator to clean up my now ruined library. Because iPhoto made all those duplicates, the file size compounded into many gigabytes. Duplicate Annihiliator had to run for hours before finally cleaning things up. It did it's job well, however the root of the problem still remains.
At the conclusion of transferring my entire library of photos from iPhone to iPhoto, I had the photos removed from the iPhone so I could start with a clean slate. I took a few sample photos and plugged the iPhone back in to iPhoto. Yet again, the dreaded triple duplicates, or "triplicates" of each photo I took show in the device preview window (i.e. I took 5, non-HDR photos, and 15 are shown—each repeated three times). If I proceed to import the collection, it imports triple of everything into my library.
Essentially, my situation now is: I have to import multiple copies of everything (takes longer), then I have to run Duplicate Annihilator each time to keep my iPhoto library from being a mess. Just wastes tons of time. How can I keep iPhoto from showing and importing all these multiple copies every time? Again, on the iPhone end, everything looks normal—only a single copy of each photo.
What I have tried:
Closing/restarting iPhoto
Checking for iPhoto updates (there are none, I'm on the latest version—which, as of this writing, is 9.2.3 629.52)
Deleting com.apple.iPhoto.plist from ~/library/Preferences/
Using Image Capture (triple duplicates still show in IC as well)
Disabling Photo Stream
Removing all photos and albums from iPhoneI am seeing this problem still, even after trying the Photo stream toggle trick that was mentioned. I have one otehr observation to add.
If I "Command"+select the first of each photo in iPhoto and then import those (choosing to Delete after import), then the next refresh of iPhone pictures oniPhoto will show all the photos (including the duplicates) gone. So basically something like this.
1) iPhoto - I see triplicates of pictures on my iPhone.
2) Command+Select the first instance of each duplicated picture.
3) Import the selected pictures. Choose to Delete the pictures after import.
4) Go back to iPhone in iPhoto. No more duplicates of the pictures I imported.
So this doesn't fix the problem as all the unimported photos still show triplicates, but al least I don't have to run a de-duper on my laptop now to eliminate triplicates.
This eliminates some of the hassle, but it's still a hassle.
I hope someone figures this out completely because it's making me hate iPhoto just a little bit.

Some iPhone 4S photos imported via Photo Stream are black
I'm seeing a whole bunch of iPhone 4S photos imported via Photo Stream as black images in latest iPhoto '11. When I look at the original file in finder, it is intact, however the modified one is just a black image (which is what shows up in iPhoto).
This is very concerning. I'm now manually re-importing all my 4S photos.
Strangely, the same photos that appear black in iPhoto Photo Stream are fine on my iPad and iPhone Photo Stream view.
So it seems that iPhoto is breaking them when it imports them. There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Iphone photos won't import to iphoto
When I try to import photos from my iPhone I click "import selected photos" and then iPhoto goes to the events menu and my iPhone disappears from the left side. The iPhone still appears in iTunes, so even though it doesn't appear in iPhoto, it is still there in iTunes.
I have tried selecting all photos to import, and a select few, but neither method works. I have also tried Image Capture, but my iPhone doesn't appear in the device list.
I've tried rebooting, and have tried disconnecting my iPhone and then reconnecting it many times. Each time it appears in iPhoto, but disappears as soon as I begin to import.Try resetting the Phone.

Then when I have my IPhone connected it will not allow me to select either import selected, or import all (buttons are greyed out). Help please
If your iPhone is plugged into the computer - unplug it. Press and hold the power button. After the computer turns off release the button. Then press and release the power button (as normal) to turn the computer on.

I was trying to Import photos to my computer and was asked to upgrade my Iphone before importing. In restoring my Iphone, it deleted all of my 200 new photos and they are now gone. Is there any way to retrieve them?
You should ALWAYS import all pics ( and anything selse for that matter) before any update.
If you failed to do this, then the pics are likely gone. You can try restoring from backup.
