Slot CD Drive

Where can I find a replacement CD drive for my iMac 400MHZ DV (Special Edition)? Preferably a DVD/CDR drive.

The slot-loading (CRT) iMacs shipped with a CD-ROM, a DVD-ROM, or a CD-RW drive, but no combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. If you don't mind spending more than the current market value of your iMac DV400, you can buy an internal DVD±RW drive for $149. Otherwise, I'd search eBay for a pulled drive, either a DVD-ROM or CD-RW. The FireWire port gives you external options for a SuperDrive, such as this one from OWC, that has a Pioneer DVD±RW drive.

  • A500 slot-loading drive doesn't work

I started using my A500 on the 24th of December 2009. Now my slot-loading drive just spits out every disc i put in it.
I've also noticed that most of my toshiba softwares like disc creator loads with these errors when starting: Unexpected error occurred. Error Code: 320129-49-00000015 and Error Code: 32007C-49-00000015
My Recovery Media Creator also starts with this error: Cannot get Disk Driver Information followed by An unexpected error occurred. Please quit this application and restart it.
(Error Code: 0D00F6-49-00000015) and (Error Code: 0D016E-49-00000015)
could they be related? Any help would do.. thanks

Another thought--do you have an external hard drive? If so. I believe you could mount it on your computer and copy the iLife applications onto it. Then you could mount the external drive on the iBook and drag the applications off of it onto the dock. I think that would work--I did that successfully with Garage band once--I moved it to the external hard drive to free up space on my iBook. At a later time, I was able to move it back. If you don't have an external hard drive, it's worth a few $$ to get one so you can use it for backup.
Also, there is a migration Assistant in the utilities folder which is supposed to be used for moving data from one computer to another. I don't know if it works for applications or not--having only one computer, I have never had occasion to use it. But it might work.
    Good luck!

  • Inserting a CD into Slot-Loading Drive

I'm new to Mac. I just bought a latest MacBook a couple days ago. I have a question about slot-loading drive. I'm not really familiar with this drive. Once, I tried to insert a CD. I forced my cd, but the surface didn't let my CD go inside. So, I just tried again, just like swiping my credit card. Then, my CD went inside. Is there any specific instruction to insert a CD into this drive?

    Thanks for your answer.
(Actually, I made a mistake here.
I should not ask this question here because I don't have an original MacBook.)
However, I still feel that it's not that simple.
As you said, I held the CD by edges, and the CD is level with the drive bay. If I try to slide the CD into the drive directly, the CD doesn't really get inside very easily. However, If I push the CD from the right edge of the drive bay and move the CD to the left while pushing it to the drive bay, the CD finally gets in, and the drive will take it. This is why I was about to break my CD.

  • How to clean slot-load drive?

I have a small issues that appears to not be software related. I am not exactly tech-savvy when it comes to apple products, thus I have had a hard time finding a solution.
Basically, I have problems ejecting discs. Firstly, no matter what method of ejecting I attempt, it will not eject fully.
After many attempts, it finally jutts out, but then gets pulled back in again. I have to contiuously eject until finally I can grab the disc and pull it out.
Sometimes running my thumbnail across the "dust flap" helps, sometimes it doesn't. When I look, it appears pretty dusty.
My Macbook Pro IS second hand. So it seems it came to me pretty dusty already.
So after all those pointers, I came to the conclusion that either the dust flap was dirty or sticky, and, maybe, the slot load DVD drive needs cleaning.
If not, can anyone point me to a permanent solution?
Otherwise, can anyone tell me how to safely clean the dust flap and/or slot load drive.

  • 1.46 GB DVD-R in slot load drive??

I was just wondering if anyone knows if these small 1.46GB disks work in the slot loading drive of the new iBook. I have a recording I need played, but I am unable to watch on my computer because I do not want it to get stuck. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

Hello I bought an ibook in december so it should be under warranty. But i have placed one of these mini dvds into my ibook g4. Its stuck, not recognised by the computer what can i do to get it out? I'm in Egypt also so I dont know how to contact apple for help with out running up a massive bill? Can you help at all?
Mini DVDs don't work in a slot-loading drive, and you
may damage the drive by inserting one.

  • What does this alarm mean ....... hwStringMatch - HP Insight Management Agents Trap Alarm: Logical Drive Status Change: Slot 1, Drive: 2 ......... Status is now Predictive Failure

    Hi,
I have received this trap from the Call Manager PUB server running version 7.1.5.31900-3
hwStringMatch - cmaidad[5579]: Physical Drive Status Change: Slot 1 Port 2l Box 1 Bay 1. Status is now Predictive Failure
I have checked the drive status via CLI and all drives show OK, both physical & logical
Is there anywhere you can check what is causing this event and is it merely advising of a potential drive failure

    Hi
Modern drives have embedded monitoring. Whilst the disk hasn't failed, something internally is telling the embedded monitoring that it may soon fail - it's running a little hot, having excessive write errors, latency is drifting up... something subtle is going wrong.
It could be caused by a firmware error... but I'd take it at face value.
It might have failed by the time you read this, or it might work fine for another 20 years.
Either way - when I was a server admin I would get any disk with a predictive failure swapped out immediately. No point waiting for it to fail - even on a RAID system when a disk fails although you don't lose data you have your trousers down as a coincidental second failure would ruin your day!

  • Optical Drive/slot loading drive not recognized by imac G5. HELP US!!!!!

We have an imac G5 that is maybe 14 months old. I know for a fact that the slot loading optical drive on the side has been used for three things in the entire time we've owned it. That's THREE TIMES in 14 months and now it's as if the drive doesn't exist on the computer. I've gone into the system profiler, it says there is no drive, try to put in a cd, no resistance, no noise and it doesn't even try to suck in any disc. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you figured out what to do? I can replace the drive myself, it's not hard but can someone recommend a good quality drive cause I'm not paying through the nose for parts from apple only to have them crap out on me.
    I feel ripped off!

We have 3 right now having problems. 1 just went into the ITech store to have a CD removed. 1 will not even accept a CD anymore and the other just makes awful noises and scratches the CD. These have been minimally used also. They said the Optical Drive is bad on the 1st one. Of course, we are 1 month past our warranty! I think Apple should be backing this but when I called about it they didn't want to help me. Even saying I had not registered them even though I had documentation from them saying I had. I know the feeling of being ripped off. Our company has purchased 20 of these in the last 1 1/2 years. You think we would get a little bit of help from Apple being we have purchased so many of their products in the last 20 years.

  • How to remove a 3inch CD from the slot loading drive??

I have am external adapter for various IDE external devices. The drivers came on a 3 inch CD.I put the CD in the slot it did not appear to go all the in and it will not eject using the normal methods. Anyone run into this situation??
    Bob

I was able to remove the disk quite simply. I slid a business card through the center of the slot. I aimed the card slightly upward toward the top of the drive. I inserted the card in about an inch and a half. I then took a mediun size paper clip and straightened it out. I bent the last millimeter down about one millimeter forming sort of a hook. I then inserted the hook end in about an inch and a half on top of the business card (away from the drive mechanism).I then rotated the paperclip so that the hook end dropped into the hole in the CD. I then slid the paper clip, the the business card and the CD out together It worked great first try. The drive still works.

  • Panther Killed My Slot Load drive?

Updated to Panther last night on my g3 Imac 350. Now the slot drive will not load CDs – including the third install CD. I have the upgraded firmware (4.1.9). Any ideas what went wrong or how to fix it?

    pstar,
I would try using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions (if you have not already). Before and after any update you need to run this. The Disk Utility can be found @ HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.
Let us know if that helps,

  • My toddler slid a paper clip into my iMac optical drive slot. Drive would not take a disc.

I figured out a way to get the paper clip out and wanted to post for others that may have the same problem. I cut a thin piece of cardboard from a cereal box and added some 2 sided tape to it. I slid the cardboard and tape into the slot and pulled it out slowly. The paper clip came out on the first try.

Now give the toddler the two-sided tape, and hope it sticks!
Good tip, others have had this same problem.

  • Do you need an additional slot for the RBS and does the RBS count as an additional hard drive in the Sharepoint 2013 Server farm?

    Hello Community
If you have a clustered Sharepoint 2013 Server farm running RAID 10, on a
clustered WS2012 R2 server that has 10 hard drive slots:
            (4) drives being part of the Sharepoint 2013 Server farm
            (1) drive for the Web App Server
            (5) are for hot swap if any of the production hard drives fail
        The question(s) is:
            - If the server only has 10 slots for hard drives are you still allowed to add a
NAS/RBS drive and does the NAS/RBS drive get clustered also, or does this scenario require
reducing the RAID level down to RAID 5 to allow for NAS/RBS hard drive?
            - Does the NAS/RBS hard drive need a hard drive for hot swap?
            - Does the NAS/RBS drive have to have Sharepoint 2013 Server or WS2012 R2 running on it?
            - Does the Web App Server have Sharepoint 2013 running or just WS2012 R2 running on it?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

RAID 10 requires a minimum of 4 hard drives. The LUN for RBS must be attached to the SQL Server, not SharePoint server, as a local drive. You just need to be running the minimum required OS for the version of SQL Server you're using.
Do you mean Office Web Apps by "Web App Server"? If so, that cannot have SharePoint installed on it. Otherwise, if you're just referring to it as another SharePoint server, yes it would have SharePoint installed on it.

  • A foreign object is stuck in my drive slot

I was blowing dust from my slot-loading drive using compressed air - you know, a small metal canister attached to a red plastic nib. Well, the nib blew into the drive opening. Now, obviously, the drive won't work, and I don't exactly know that to do.
I'd like to find a way to eject the foreign object so my drive works again, but I don't how, or what the cost would be. Or would be be better to call in a loss and purchase a new external superdrive?
Does anyone know what I can do to retrieve the foreign object at home? Or this strictly the domain of the repair shop/Apple Store? What, roughly, would the price be, in either case?
    Please be detailed! Thanks,

    Paul_31:
Interesting idea. It seems that gravity would bring the object to the bottom of the drive opening; all you have to do is get anything with a little "grab" to draw the object out. However, it seems the object is lodged near the middle - and may be stuck. I tried to push the object down, but it's definitely stuck.

I don't know how to take apart an iMac - but the uTube videos suggest that it's not simple. I believe that a trip to the Genius Bar is the only viable option.
