Slow access since 10.5.4

Hi;
The problem I am facing is slow access Rate of 14-27 to Airport Express n. Troubleshootings that I have done to isolate the problem are as follows. Updated all firmware and software. Computer access the internet normally using ethernet. Apple TV also accessing the same router is OK. The Computer used to be faster before 10.5.4. Under Advanced settings of Airport utility you can see the fluctuations. Bridge mode versus router mode does not help. DHCP and static IP address set up does not change anything. Older Airport Express non n works fine with older laptop. # of devices does not help changing from 2.4 to 5 GHz does not change anything.
Is there anything I have missed?

Same here as well, whether I connect using Airport Express or directly plug my new iMac (10.5.4) into the ethernet port of the cable modem. By comparison, all the other Macs in the house are zipping along using our Airport network (and some of these are rather old machines -- an iBook dual USB from 2000, a Powermac G4 Cube also from 2000, and a 12-inch PowerBook G4). All of these other machines are running 10.4.11 (except the iBook, 10.3.9).
The iMac had very fast internet access until I upgraded the system to 10.5.4. ****.

Also, a tool bar has shown up for YAHOO which I did not request. The old detailed tool bar for Firefox has disappeared. All that now shows for Firefox is the area to enter website urls and an area to enter topic for a Google Search.
Many times I have to exit Firefox and re-enter it later to access the internet.
Please advice what I need to do to get back to the speed I had with the older version of Firefox.

WD MyCloud very slow access

Dear sirs When I bought the MyCloud device 3TB, I had already experience with different WD MyBook devices. The problem is, that we are not able to really work successfully with new MyCloud device. Once the transfer has started it is fast. For huge files up to 45MB/s which is amazing cool. But from click to start the copy until it really start it takes some times up to 20 seconds (for one single file).In case of this extreme slow access time, we switched off ALL services. Cloud service is off, Media streaming is off, backup is off, trash-service is off, ... One extreme performance impact is for example one Security camera folder filled with10 subfolders filled with 5'000 JPG pictures each. To simple access them to make a preview it takes 3 days. On local HDD it takes about 1 minute.We have tested now on Windows XP / Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 at about 6 different computers. The main problem is our daily "office file access" which went down extrem slow since we moved to the cloud. The IP is already static set by Router. Additional I have tried with static IP. But WD Cloud has not fixed anything that way. CPU is still enormous at load without any reason too.

Help with Slow access or NAT to Inside Interface on ASA 9.1

I am hoping someone can help me figure this out, I did this on the PIX and it worked like a charm, but I am having some difficulty translating the configuration to an ASA.
In the PIX I performed NAT on outside traffic to a specific inside host (web server) to map to the inside interface so that return traffic would go to the same firewall the traffic came in through, The reason for this configuration was because the gateway of last resort was a different firewall and not the firewall the traffic came in through.
Now to further give you some history, the gateway of last resort is an ASA running 9.1 (Now), prior to that it was a PIX with v8.0(4), traffic to the aforementioned web server came in through the gateway of last resort), which at the time was the PIX.
However, for some reason after swapping the PIX for an ASA (same rules, updated NAT rules for 9.1) access to the same web server is slow. Not sure why, but it’s the case. To alleviate the slowness we experienced, and until I can figure out why this occurs on the ASA, I placed a PIX on the network that only listens for traffic for the web server in question. On this PIX I map to the inside interface so that traffic flow works and external clients can access the web server with no issues.
So two questions, one I would like to use the configuration I have for the web server on the PIX on the ASA to see if that setup on the ASA works better, but having difficulty translating the rules to the ASA.
Second question, has anyone experienced this type of issue (Slow access with ASA to a web server, but fast with PIX to the same web server)?
Attached a diagram of what I am currently doing?

To me you it would seem that you are looking for a NAT configurations something like this
object network SERVER-PUBLIC
host 197.162.127.6
object network SERVER-LOCAL
host 10.0.1.25
nat (outside,inside) source dynamic any interface destination static SERVER-PUBLIC SERVER-LOCAL
It will do a NAT for both the source and destination address in a single NAT configurations. It defines that a Dynamic PAT to the "inside" interface will be done for "any" traffic entering from the "outside" WHEN the destination is the SERVER-PUBLIC IP address. Naturally the SERVER-PUBLIC will untranslated to the SERVER-LOCAL in the process as this configuration handles 2 translations.
I dont know if this changes the situation at all but it should be the configuration format to handle the translation of external host to the internal interface IP address and only apply when this single public IP address is conserned.

Slow Access to NSS326 by Mac

We have two brand new iMac with Mac OS X (10.6.8). They have 4GB and 8GB RAM for each. When they access to the folders on the NSS3226, finder responds very slowly. Displaying files in a folder, expecially, if it has a lot of photos, takes very long. Creating a new folder and moving files also take so long.
On the otherhand, Windows 7 users in the same network have no problem on browsing the server.
Is it a common issue on Mac users? Is there any way to solve for them? May I have some advices?

I haven't seen any cases with MAC OS X having problems accessing shares/directories with an extending amount of time. I did see once a customer was using index, which was a task running causing his access of the directories extremely slow. This was a Windows PC, hadn’t seen any reports of slow access via MAC users.
Might want to see how your MAC’s attempting to access the NSS326, and or enable AFP.

Slow access when opening XLS or DOC files over the network but XLSX and DOCX files are fast

I am working with a small office that has 3 Windows 7 Pro PC's. Two of these PC's have shared folders that hold Word and Excel files and all 3 of the PC's have drives mapped to these shared folders. When browsing these mapped drive in Windows
Explorer and double-clicking a file 1 of the computers takes about 30-50 seconds to open any file with a .doc or .xls extension. It opens .docx and .xlsx files in a couple seconds though, it also open PDF files very quickly. The other 2 PC's
have no trouble any any type of file. I have tried many things over the last couple weeks to get this fixed. I have added the file locations as 'trusted locations' in the Trust Center and added a couple Registry tweaks to the SMB/ lanman workstation
and server. 2 PC's are running Office Pro 2010 SP2 and the other is Office Pro 2013, the one having the slow access is running Office 2010. Has anyone come across this problem and have any advice??

Try:
Open My Computer.
Open the Tools menu and choose Folder Options...
Select the File Types tab.
Select the extension (for example DOC, or XLS) of the file that is slow to open.
In the Details section, click [Advanced], and another dialog box will open.
In the Actions section, click Open then click [Edit...], and another dialog box will open.

Slow access to files that are already being opened by another user

HI,
A client has a Windows 2008 server setup with Windows 7 workstations. When a user opens a document (docx, xlsx etc) on the server it opens without an issues. If a second user tries to open the same file that the first user is in, the second users
computer hangs for about 2-3 minutes before bringing up the 'another user in accessing this file' box. This is happening with every file type and with any user.
Any ideas?

Lion 10.7.4 slow accessing network folders

I'm using a networked hard drive to access files. After going to a system with Lion it is very slow accessing some of the folders. Sometimes it can take up to a minute to open a folder with vew few items. After updating to 10.7.4 I'm noticing some folders will not open at all and I have to restart.
Any idea what I can do to fix this??

Link aggregated between NAS and a switch: the Mac as a very slow access...

in my Office we're working with Macs and PCs and all the data is on a NAS.
Here is our configuration:
NAS <-link1->Switch<-Link2->Macs or PC.
Macs are connected with AFP protocol (because SMB is very slow).
We want to use Link Aggregation between the NAS and the switch (with 802.3ad procotol) but when we do that all the Macs have a very slow access to the NAS. But all is OK with the PCs.
What can we do? Is there a problem with macOS X and link aggregation?

You must have an Xserve, or Ethernet cards capable of Jumbo Frames for one, I assume the Switch & NAS are capable?

My iMac is slow accessing different web sites. I also have a PC that doesn't seem to have the same problem. Any suggestions. All other programs on the computer run fine. This has only started about a month ago. Any suggestions?

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat )
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:

One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:

You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

Slow access to address book functions due to shared address books

We have recently migrated from GW v8.0.3 on NetWare 6.5 to GW 2012.2 on
SLES 11.3. Single PO system, with only 65 users.
We have been experiencing 10 second hangs/delays the first time any GW
address book functions are accessed. Some users are on the GW 2012.0.2
client, others are still on the GW 8.0.3 client, all experiencing the 10
second delay issue. We did not experience this before the migration to
GW 2012.
Testing indicates that the issue is due to shared address books.
The 10 second delay always occurs the *first* time we access an address
book function after starting the GroupWise client. For example, once
the GroupWise client is newly started, if I open the address book, it
takes 10 seconds to open. If I then create a new mail or appointment,
while adding recipients to an e-mail, selecting a new addressbook from
the address selector drop-down menu takes almost 10 seconds for the
drop-down menu to respond to first being clicked on.
Once I've accessed an address book function, though, accessing that
function is much quicker on successive uses. But it does take doing
each of those things once (suffering through the 10 hang) before they
speed up. If a user makes the mistake of closing GroupWise, I'm back to
square one with the first use of each of those address book functions
being slow again.
*BUT*, if I delete all address books that have been shared with me,
there is no 10 second delay, even after restarting the GroupWise client.
No slow access to any address book feature on first use.
Unfortunately, we use shared address books very heavily, so deleting
them for all of my users is not a solution.
Besides running PO/user maintenance, I've looked at possible
communications or DNS issues with no luck.
Any ideas what's going on or how to fix it?

We have been dealing with this same if not similar sounding issue, opened a SR, and engineering is looking into it. For us it also impacts message compose ( address completeion ) as well as opening mail. We have yet to identify a workaround. What we see is "roughly" a 3 second delay per shared address book, occuring intermittently after a period of the client being idle. We also see on the POA that periodically the client will login to these shared accounts, but instead of those logins happening quickly ( sub 1 second for all of them combined ).
This is not a constant problem for all users with the 2012 client, and seems to run in fits for a given user. We see it, perhaps 1 -3 times a day for a given user.
If you enable Verbose logging on the POA ( via the HTTP console ) and look for the IP address of the workstation with the problems, you should see a pattern of logins as follows:

Note the 3 second delay between each of the shared account logins. This typifies the problem we are seeing. Under normal circumstances you would see these all happening with the same time stamp. Perhaps you can confirm this is the same looking issue.

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
