Slow after downloading Mavericks
Just upgraded my iMac 21.5 from Lion to Mavericks and now it is running
slower than years ago with dialup. Suggestions please.

Even if they are not a big problem, can anyone tell me how to get rid of the Palm and HP startup items. They are from old devices that I do not have anymore, and I would like to eradicate them from my system.Startup items are in /Library/StartupItems/
You can delete them if you are an admin user. However it doesn't remove the actual software. The safest way to do that is to either use the manufacturers uninstaller or try to find uninstall steps listed on a forum or support site.
I'm inclear on 'Oplmgr' check that is up to date if you can, since it is using the old way to load a startup job.
Palm desktop is probably version dependant (check what you have)…

Soundflower looks out of date? Grab the installer (with an uninstaller IIRC) and update or remove it.
LogMe In, TeamViewer & Splashtop are running jobs in the system level too, so I'd spend time checking they are up to date or removed if they are not needed.
The Launch Daemons and Launch Agents are 'system level, with your own user version too - User Launch Agents.
I would clean out the failed background job…

Use the Finders 'Go Menu > Go to Folder…' to open the hidden ~/Library & look in the LaunchAgents folder for the .plist & delete it.
Reboot for the Startup items to be unloaded. -
After downloading Maverick I cannot save or email scans from my HP L7780. I receive error message "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only.
Read the user manual that came w/the scanner and/or contact HP Support.

are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?

how much free space on your boot drive?

I had zero complaints until today when I downloaded an update and restarted my machine.
Now It feels like I'm back in the PC world.

Are you experiencing the slowness only when you are running Aperture or all the time since you installed it?
Have you done anything with Aperture, imported images, iPhoto library etc?
How much memory is in your system? Did you have any external disks attached? How big and how much free space is there on your internal disk? -

If it is Office for Mac 2004, you will need to update to Office for Mac 2008 (unsupported) or Office for Mac 2011 to be compatible with Mavericks. If you already have the latter installed, have you applied all Microsoft updates, and ran Disk Utility to verify/repair permissions on your boot drive?
Using Microsoft’s recommended removal process, you may have to reinstall Office for Mac 2011, and then reapply all outstanding updates. Then repeat the Disk Utility action as mentioned above. -

A few weeks after downloading Maverick, I noticed that some attempts to use software that opens new windows (like Blackboard) are now failing as soon as that window opens. Is this a glitch with Maverick?
Yes! Been living in a hellish nightmare since Sept-Oct. Unlike you, however, Apple has been of no help. They say the iPad is unhackable, plist and crash reports are none of my business and who understands them anyway, their route tracing apps are probably not reliable. The best they could do was wipe the iPad clean. Lost photos they said would be in the cloud....
Almost immediately was back in somebody's VPN, their remote controller, video, audio, working. Got the purple buddy for the first time today. I have been invaded, my iPad no longer feels like my own, I have lost thanksgiving, Christmas, new year trying to track down the invaders, signed up for a Cisco course, set/reset passwords.
I don't know who else to contact... Or what next to do.
I've read similar frustration in other posts, scattered around the support communities. Yours is the only one that has worked toward a solution.
How did you get anyone at apple to look at your logs and acknowledge there is a problem?
Would be happy for a suggestion on how to proceed. Already been the apple store genius and tech on phone route. -
Macbook pro running super slow after downloading Lion
My mac book pro is running super slow after downloading Lion. Its so slow and all I see is the beach ball wait icon. Also my safari and firefox internet apps crash like crazy. What can I do? Hate it!

I also have this problem. My MacBook pro was brand new in august, but i bought it just a few days before the release of lion so i installed lion after i bought it. Only used it 1 day with whatever was on it before and seemed to work fine.
Ive been too busy to do anything about it but im very annoyed by how slow it is so i have to do something now, what can I do? can someone help with some specific steps? someone posted something about changing the network settings but I wasnt sure if that applied in europe (spain)... any guideance in non-technical terms please?

Safari is now VERY slow after downloading Lion
My Safari (which is the latest version) is now VERY slow after downloading Lion. It takes forever for anything to load, and some pages don't load at all anymore. Any way to fix this? It is very frustrating!
I've just made a change to try to keep the wifi from crashing and it also seems to give me a speed boost online.
Go into your System Preferences, choose Network, and then in that dialog box choose "Advanced..."
Once there, select the DNS tab.
Click the plus sign and add the following to your list of DNS servers:
8.8.8.8
It's Google's public DNS and seems to have fixed both the dropping and speed issues. -
Syncing Calendars and Contacts after downloading Mavericks
After downloading Mavericks I can no longer sync my Entourage 2008 Calendars or Contacts from my computer to my iPhone 5. Is there anything I can do besides reinstalling Mountain Lion?

My MacBook pro continues to be very slow after downloading Yosemite. It keeps referring to MacBook Pro (2). It's like there are two version running side by side. Any ideas?
It is now running Yosemite 10.10.1. I seem to have plenty of memory but the machine still runs slower than before installing Yosemite. Excel has a very noticeable lag when opening and loading files.Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I ran through the various steps as suggested including resetting the SMC.
I would say that there was about a 10% improvement. Although one of the icons still bounced for the count of 40
I'm still wondering why from the About this Mac, then System Report. it refers to my name MacBook Pro (2).
All the various problems seem to have started with the upgrade to Yosemite.
