SLOW and frustrating since the upgrade

Here is from the words of the front line school tech:
Teachers can get logged in to novell and work on internet then find that
when they go to another site they are timed out OR while on that site be
logged out. May be in a website and it freeze up to the point the computer must be restarted on a hard boot and then cannot get logged back in to Novell OR maybe they can.
Email freezes when you try to go to a New email - we use Novell
GroupWise WebAccess. Sometimes freezes when opening an email and times
out.
When you open an email and then click the X to close it, and move the
mouse, the name of the sender is caught on the mouse and is drug around
the page. Must open the email again and close it again and NOT move the
mouse for approx 30 seconds or more and then the senders name will not
stay on mouse.
Internet running extreamly slow. At High school we are running on a new
4.5 Mb IMA circuit. Elementary buildings are running on Integrated wireless.
BorderManager prevents from looking at pages and freezes up and must be
restarted at the server.
Networked printers are losing their IP address and must be reconfigured.
Some print jobs remain out there in cyber space and prints 10, 15
minutes later after being sent or maybe the next day if at all.
The recent upgrade caused this to happen. NW65sp8 and BM 3.9sp2 were updated last week and since then, all this has started happening. It's been a few years since I have worked on Bordermanager but I can remember issues like this before. I have been tasked to fix this issue. I am trying to put together a list of what to take with me.
A spare NIC card or 2?
updated LAN driver?
updated TCP files?
It's already running the latest proxy.cfg file version 30.
Since I am leaving in the morning, anyone have a quick thought on what it could be?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Quite seriously, the servers themself are really the least likely
culprit here. Everything points to a much more wdespread problem
affecting pretty much everything on the network. That could be the
network itself, or some machine that has crapped out and overloads the
net, something like that. NW65SP8 / BM3.9 is extremely stable, including
all included drivers.

    To sync to your iPhone, you need to check iCloud requirements to be sure your iPhone is compatible with iCloud and your iPhone software is up to date.
    You also need to make sure iCloud is enabled on the iPhone.
    And you need to make sure the iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi in order to sync.
    For the time difference, be sure the time settings on each device is the same with time zone and daylight saving time the same setting on each.

    Does anybody have any ideas to help with Itunes? its become slow and useless sine upgrading to the latest version. i can still download at normal speeds from the site but initial opening and navigation are painfully slow.

  • IPad is extremely slow and hangs since IOS8 upgrade

    Since the IOS8 upgrade my iPad2 is extremely slow, the touch sensitivity seems diminished (along with the keyboard being slower also), many apps no longer work. Can't risk trying to backup to IOS7.x because i am afraid the original IOS7 backup may be gone. I told my wife and daughter DO NOT UPGRADE, so they are still working fine.  Apple Support, where are you?  Maybe all is well for the new phones but you have forgotten other users.
    i believe my loyalty to Apple (since 1984) is fading as I am now slowly recovering all my data so I can move away from Apple.

    Try a reset by holding the power and home keys down until the Apple logo appears.
    FWIW my iPad 2 is running just fine under iOS 8.
    By the way, you cannot retreat to iOS 7 - that is not supported.

    Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
    Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
    Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
    If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test.     Since the upgrade to 4.0.1, both of my mac osx computers get multiple popups and popunders, despite the block popups being enabled, as well as slow tracking(at regular card game sites, and frequent freezing of open windows.

    Honestly I would never run both Win 7 & XP at the same time in a VM. 7 needs at least 4GB to run properly and uses more resources then XP.
    I personally use VMware Fusion and XP. At this time there is no software, that I'm aware of or use, that does not run on XP. So for my Mac Win VM purpose I only run XP with the software in need to use in Windows. This work very well for me. I have 2 CPUs and 3GBs of RAM assigned to XP. Leaving the other 2 CPU cores, 4 HT cores, and 5GBs of RAM for OS X.
    Not sure why you need, or want, to run both versions of Windows at the same time. I don't see the need as stated above.

  • Mac is much slower since the upgrade to 10.8.3  freezes and opens up slow accompanied by the beach ball

    Since leaving snow leopard and Mountain lion to Lion , it has been much much slower and freezes while doing simple internet browsing. a few of my apps won't work since the upgrade. Even when i boot up it takes a long while to log in.

    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    My Ipad 2 is very slow, and hot never have this....is their a solution?

    I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6 as soon as it was available, and, since the upgrade, I've noticed a significant increase in the rate of battery drain. I charged my iPad overnight last night, and it was 100% charged when I started using it this morning. I made sure that Location Service and Bluetooth radio were off. I used it to web browse, compose an email, and read a PDF document. I used it for about four hours continuously, and the battery was down to 50%. That is draining the battery much faster than before the OS upgrade. Unfortunately, I did not backup the iPad before upgrading. I did the upgrade over WiFi. The PC on which I have iTunes died, and I don't have a replacement machine on which to back it up yet. If I had a good backup, I'd restore it and forget about this upgrade until there's a fix for the battery problem, if there ever is one. I'm glad I waited to upgrade my iPhone 4S. I rely on it more and don't want to deal with rapid battery drain on it. I upgraded to the iPhone 4S from the 3GS. My 3GS was rendered almost useless when I upgraded to iOS 5 when it came out and caused rapid battery drain on the phone, which Apple never fixed. Also the performance of the 3GS with iOS5 was so slow I could hardly stand using it for anything. That experience led to my decision to wait on upgrading my 4S to iOS 6. It's unfortunate that such a great family of products is plagued with this battery drain problem, and with all their resources, Apple cannot or will not fix the problem. As far as I know, they have not even acknowledged a battery drain problem with iOS 6. To me, the battery drain problem is much worse than the problems with the mapping software that Apple is using to replace Google Maps in iOS 6. Rather than apologizing, I would like for Apple to acknowledge the battery drain problem and fix it.

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

    Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
    Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
    Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

    I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

    Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

    since the upgrade, my I phone I cloud account is picking up my former e mail address/account name and I cannot access it because it keeps denying the passwords I try   I no longer have that e mail address either    I can access I cloud and I tunes on my laptop with the correct account name/password,but not my phone     the i tunes account works fine on the phone--correct name--just not  i cloud       i tried changing it from my computer back to the old address then changing it to the new address and verifying by e mail but nothing happened

    I recently updated to ios 5.1 but nothing has been done to rectify the audio app problems ie lyrics no longer shown,
    I am extremely disappointed and angrywith those responsible for the iOS 5 update, in regard to the way it hasaffected the music app in my iPad.
    I also own an iPhone 4, am an avid Apple fan, and up until now have beenextremely pleased with the devices, and have sung their praises to friends andassociates.
    I am a professional musician, and purchased an iPad primarily to use with theperformance of my music.
    The changes made to the music app affected my performances over the weekendextremely adversely – limiting my repertoire and causing confusion and delays.
    I have spent many hours talking withApple helpline assistants (who, incidentally have been very good and have triedto help), and I have also spent a lot of time on this letter.
    I greatly regret updating to iOS 5.
    There are two major problems with the music app.
    1. Lyrics no longer displayed
    2. Layout, and appearance and consequently performance have seriouslyregressed.
    I have a repertoire of around 500 song backing tracks, organised into about 20playlists, half of which featured lyrics / chords that I have spent monthsrecently entering into iTunes so that they could be used on my iPad.
    These were working fine up until the update - now they are gone.
    Previously, the app featured large icons for playlist, artists, songs etc. atbottom of page: Now there are small, grey, indistinct barely legible buttons.
    Previously, when playlist icon was selected - all the playlists were listedclearly in order on the left hand side in black on white (as in iTunes).
    Now they are scattered across the whole page in large squares (displayingnothing if there is no album art).
    The identifying wording below eachsquare is now small, grey, indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a playlist was selected - the songs were displayed in adescending list in black & white: now they appear as small, grey indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a song was selected - it appeared filling the page, and withaudio controls clearly positioned at top of screen. One tap would bring uplyrics.
    Now audio controls appear at top once again small, grey, indistinct &barely legible.
    A small square representsalbum art which if tapped fills page. A further tap fails to bring up lyrics.

    Lyrics aren't supported in the Music app on iOS 5 on the iPad. These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen).     I did it by going to my old Photoshop CC Plugins folder and copying it aand then pasteing it in the Phtoshop CC 2014 folder. All mine came back and worked.
