Slow and jerky graphics

I am running Linux(PCLinuxOS) and I am have trouble with Flash/macromedia player.
Trouble is that it is slow and very jerky, meaning the after a short but far longer time than it should, it shows only part of the graphics and many times it never finishes the that particular window/pane. Also the animation is slow as in frame rate was 3-5 a second. this seams to only be in Dragons Of Atlantis, and I do have the same issues on all linux ver I install.
Oh...FireFox latest.
if you know the fix...[email protected]
Thank You
David

If you disable C&Q your game glitches should disappear.
3 short beeps?
The K9N Ultra is an AMI bios right?
3 shorts beeps......http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm
3 short  =  Base 64K memory failure.A memory failure has occurred in the first 64K of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad?
Try some other ram to see if beeps go away and also test yours with memtest.....http://www.memtest86.com/.
This may also indicate why your game is running glitchity but I still think it's because of C&Q.
Can you check to see if your boot.ini has /usepmtimer in it.
Should look similar to this.......
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="C Drive (Microsoft Windows XP)" /fastdetect /usepmtimer

  • Indesign image display is very slow and jerky

    good morning
I contacted Adobe Customer Service in Italy because I have big problems with the Creative Suite CS 5.5, in particular with Indesign and in general with the display of images of AI and Acrobat.
As I work with Indesign image display is very slow and jerky. Even with AI and Acrobat work experience is not good, the images are jerky and there are hesitations in the fluidity of view.
The software is installed on windows 7 64bit Utlimate, the workstation is very powerful: Supermicro motherboard, dual Xeon E5620 2.4ghz, 16gb ram, SSD OCZ vertex4, PNY Nvidia Quadro 4000.
The customer service has sent me several tips for email, I have followed all the instructions but I did not get results. In conclusion, when I pointed out that reading on the forums I was not the only one who showed this problem and after discussing about my hardware configuration, they told me that the problem is probably due to the fact that I have two Xeon processors!
In efects had observed that CS 5.5 on my notebook works better, but I never thought about having problems because the PC is powerful. I checked the CPU and GPU when using Indesign and I could see that uses a single CPU, and most "only 1 core"! But of CPUs in the system there are two for a total of 8 cores. Indesign seems to use only 1/8 of the available computing power ... In addition, practically does not use the GPU (only 10-15%).
From the customer service was suggested to disable or remove a processor from the system. All this seems to me incredible. I use the workstation for applications that can take advantage of the power of the machine, should I remove the processor whenever I have to use CS 5.5? If things are this way I'm thinking of asking if Adobe buy me a PC with a single processor only for use with CS 5.5 ...
    Thank you.

Interesting idea, I'll investigate in this direction, I should try to make a mirror of the ssd on a traditional hard drive, exchange them and see if the situation changes. It must, however, be a further factor in the eventual bad combination hardware ... on my laptop I have: windows 7 x64, intel core i7 processor, 16gb of ram, nvidia quadro 3000m, and .... a ssd ocz agility 3, but indesign is more responsive.
But why indesign should be influenced by the hard-drive? With 16gb of ram and working files on NAS because in design interacts with the hard drive?

  • InDesignCC slow and jerky

I'm using a trial version of InDesignCC on Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.8). It's very slow and jerky. Not at all nice to work with. I've previously been using InDesign_cs4 with no problems. Do I need to upgrade my system software? Or anything else I can do?

There are already several threads on this top, please read them. In
short, there are a few things you can try but Adobe is aware of it and
    working on it.

  • Netflix /youtube is very slow and jerky

My macbook pro is a 2.43 GHz intel Core duo with 4GB of memory.  I updated to Maverics and Netfix and youtube became very slow and jerky.
Even moving the mouse causes probles with playback.
This does not happen my wifes mac book pro, or my small windows laptop and it did not happen untill I updated to maverics.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Slow and Jerky!!!

Machine: iMac G5 iSight, 500Gb HD (235Gb available), 2.5Gb RAM. 3 years old.
In the last month or so I have noticed the machine has generally slowed down and this is most notable when watching video in iTunes and separately via Quicktime. Nearly every video (no matter what size or quality) will stick and playback will be jerky.
The only software I have added in the last month was the MacUpdate bundle that included VirusBarrier X5 and Drive Genius 2 (the two reasons I bought it). The only app of that bundle I have removed is Little Snitch (annoyed the **** out of me!).
I have run 'repair permissions' in disc utility but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. Is it worth running defrag in Drive Genius or is there something else someone can suggest to get the 'snap' back?
    Regards
    Andy

The next thing you might want to do (make sure you have a good bootable clone before you do it) is an Archive and Install, being sure that "preserve user settings and preferences" is checked. This will put a new copy of the OS on your machine, while preserving all your data, apps and setting.
Again, please let me know how it went, this should really fix things! Fingers crossed...

  • Older iMac with slowness and choppy graphics

            Hello
I have a 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 iMac with 1GB DDR2 SD RAM, and 10.4.11 loaded on it (well it's actually my aunt's)
here's some more specs, ATI RADEON X600 XT, VRAM 128 mo
basically applications load really slow, Safari is also slow (though it got a little better after clearing the cache and all the saved data like cookies), video is choppy across all platforms (quicktime, youtube, etc) and when using Skype (which is nearly unusuable due to choppiness) suddenly the whole system goes to sleep, in the middle of my conversations with family in europe!
what can I do to remedy this?
    (1) install the latest OS? (will a seven year old iMac be able to handle it?
    (2) add some RAM?
    (3) update the graphics card? (see followup question to 1)
    (4) drop to my knees and say a prayer?
    Thanks
    JC

Rund Disk Utility to verify/repair your drive(s).  Boot from your installer DVD to repair the boot drive.
Try doing smc and pram reset.
Boot in safe mode.  Then reboot normally.
See if any of these things improve your performance.

  • Flash Player 10 update games running slow and jerky

I am running Windows Vista with Google Chrome and ever since I updated to flash player 10 my games and videos are running jerky and slow. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, followed some other random internet advice and it is still performing so poorly I can't play the games.
    Help

Hi, thanks. It appears that you have a 64bit system. When viewing Flash content, videos, etc and when Installing Flash Player you need to use the 32bit browser which is the default.
Even tho you use Chrome, you do have some version of Internet Explorer. I think you may want to check your Flash files.
Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed there. The NPSWF files you will need to right click on and then click on Properties in order to obtain the version numbers.
I don't use Chrome and am not familiar with it. My understanding is that with Flash Player version 10.1 it is embedded with the Chrome browser. Now where you find this info I don't know. I suppose there is a help at the top of the browser, so any info that is there will be helpful. In particular I am looking for add ons, plug-ins, extensions that would be in the Chrome browser. A SWF(Shockwave Flash) plug-in that should be version 10.1.53.64 and Enabled. Hope you can find that:-)
You can go to this test site and test with all browsers. You should see the animation and it will tell you the version of Flash Player that you have Installed, but just for the browser that you are testing with. When you test with IE and you have not Installed Flash Player into IE, then it should give you a message about that.

  • Really slow and jerky cursor with my apple bluetooth mouse, can you help?

    hey.
i have the apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard, they were working perfectly (keyboard still does) until they ran out of batteries one day. i reverted to the wired set up and (lazily) didn't get batteries for a while (month or so). When i did the keyboard responds as before but the mouse is painfully jerky and slow. i have re-paired the mouse and changed the batteries twice, it is so annoying i now use the bluetotth keyboard and wired mouse. any advice/suggestions gratefully recieved.
    many thanks.
    james

it is so frustrating isn't it. i now sit looking at the bluetooth mouse whilst getting tangled up in the cable of the wired mouse!! i was going to buy the new wireless mighty mouse hoping that that would solve/bypass the problem but reading what you have all put is definately making me wary of that. it seems so simple doesn"t it, nice uncluttered desk, pretty foolproof technology. if only... seems that no matter how clever these things get they are still not smart enough. i have been looking elsewhere for solutions but no luck as of yet, if i find any i'll let you know.
    regards,

  • Why touch-screen (HP EliteBook) slow and jerky? (ok with Chrome)

Touch-screen functions are prettty useful when screens (and print) are small. On my HP EliteBook (about 2 years old, SDD, max RAM) the touch-screen works smoothly with Chrome, but much less smoothly with Firefox (and even worse with Safari). Anything one could do to (other than use Chrome)?

Are you using touch mode or double tap to zoom?

  • Slow and jerky scrolling

    Greetings Support Community,
A new problem has cropped up recently with my MS Word for Mac 2008. Sometimes when I try to scroll, either with the scrolling wheel or by dragging the bar, Word responds slowly and jerkily. There's a huge delay between when I try to scroll and when the document actually moves. This doesn't happen all the time, but it is happening with increasing frequency.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?
    Thanks!

Launch Activity Monitor and monitor the process activity.  See if some process (or proeceess) start consuming a larger amount of cpu when your performance degrades.

  • OSX Lion, It is slow and really lumpy/jerky Can I revert back to Snow leopard?

    Where are Apple?
Had OSXLion for a week and it is nothing like as fast as the last OS, screen changes are really slow and jerky and the whole thing feels slower. Is there anything that I can do, or can I revert back to Snow Leopard?
This is a real shame never had this type of issue with Apple before.

This is a user to user forum.  You can only revert to Snow Leopard through your backup.  You might attempt piecemeal data recovery after backing up your Lion system, and copying your e-mail folders to IMAP if they weren't stored there before.  Spotlight frequently needs to finish updating in the menu in the upper right (it will only have a search field if it is done, and say it is indexing if it is not), or some plugins may need upgrading to be Lion compatible before you upgrade to Lion.  See my FAQs*:

    Hi guys,
I have the 11 inch macbook air with 1.4 ghz 2gigs of Ram and i must say looking through itunes store - simply scrolling up and down through content is very sluggish, slow and jerky, the same applies for certain websites. Its very laggy scrolling up and down. Is this just simply because the specs are low on this macbook air? Im not impressed, i spent £999 on this when i could have spent the same amount on a macbook pro which would have been way faster. Any suggestions? Do you think apple would swap this for a Macbook pro? Ive had it for around 2 months now. Thanks Russ

I agree...I haven't seen these issues. I do see differences in web speed depending on where I'm at - I'm at my daughters place right now, and it's not as responsive as mine at home (sheer internet speed issue). As for any jerkiness, etc...I haven't seen it at all.
As for your MBA pro being faster - though the specs might show that, my experience says different. I just put up 3 MacBook Pro's 15" at work (i5 core processors). This MBA is much faster than they are for basic and other functions. (it's the Flash-based HD that allows this). Up to you.
As for the return, Apple has a 14 day return policy - usually no questions asked. After that amount of time, the won't take a return, but you can talk to Apple (since you're still covered for phone assistance for 90 days from purchase).
    Right now, I'd suggest that.

  • Video is slow and jumpy.

I bought a tv show from itunes and whenever I watch it on itunes the sound is pretty good but the picture is really slow and jerky. Can anyone help?

Can I burn them to disc? Are they viewable using another program?
If you're referring to videos purchased from the iTunes Store, then no, you can't burn them to a video disk, and they're only viewable in iTunes, QuickTime Player, or on an iPod or Apple TV.

  • RC2 slow and hogs RAM

RC2 is not an improvement for me. The sliders (particularly the Transform ones) are now slow and jerky in response. Furthermore, RC2 seems to accumulate RAM space as time goes on, and progressively slows down as it does so. The only way to get it to relinquish RAM is to exit. I wasn't having issues before - RC1 was fine. Now I am ...
    Windows 7, 8GB, Intel Q8400

I have the original problem. Firefox works great when all of its windows are open on my laptop's LCD screen. (It's a Lenovo T420s.) When I move a FF18 window even partially onto the second monitor, and then move the mouse within the window, CPU utilization spikes. The mouse tracking is "sticky" when the pointer passes over menu elements and links that have visual mouse-over effects; that is, the pointer stops while the button or menu appears and then jumps to where it should be. The overall effect is so annoying that I have to keep all my FF windows on the primary (integrated) display. This first appeared in FF18 and continues in FF18.0.2.
