I have no idea what all this means, can someone explain it to me?
Would it explain why i'm only getting 0.51mb download speed?

  • Floola is slow as fat turtle

    Hi!
I`m using Arch i686 + OpenBox, just installed Floola from AUR, and found out that it is extremely slow... Takes about 3-4 seconds to respond to any clicks. Almost makes it impossible to use it. I took a look at Floola`s forum and found out that another guy that uses SUSE has the similar problem, but he didn`t find a solution for it.
Anyone has it working without issues?

  • Lion is slow--s/b turtle?

Lion is SLOOWW after upgrade from Snow Leopard!  Things that used to take place quickly such as opening files, or opening a file-selector box, now take a seeming eternity.  Even turning to a new sheet in Numbers makes you wait a while.

Only if you don't run Time Machine after you delete the item.  You need at least two copies of all data at all times.  You might as well make a clone of your Time Machine, and a clone of what you have on your system now.   Time Machine is good for archival storage as long as you don't run out of space on its destination.  Once you do, it recrusively gets rid of the alternating backups it doesn't think it needs.    Cloning on the other hand makes sure you get an exact copy of the original as it stands, and is always an exact copy of the original at the time the backup is made.   Thus if you delete something, it is gone from the clone at the next backup.  You can burn off archives from the Time Machine to DVD, or copy to another hard drive as long as Time Machine is not connected to that hard drive at the time.  Your Time Machine Apple menu -> System Preferences can control when Time Machine is active and when it is not.
http://www.libreoffice.org/ or http://www.openoffice.org/ are good alternatives to Microsoft office.
Garageband does have an update for Mac OS X 10.7 that doesn't cost thta much.
But yes, your hard drive has way less space than you need.  Your hard drive should be no more than 85% of capacity.
And Spotlight is the menu for searching in the upper right.  If it says it is indexing it is indexing.  Otherwise it is not a problem.  If it is indexing, wait for it to finish before using your computer for anything but checking on it.
Permissions are repaired through first aid in Disk Utility which is in Applications -> Utilities.

I have to go into the settings & do it that way. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I think I need more ram to make my computer run faster but I can't get anymore for at least a month or so, anyone have any tips? If any at all?! Thanks! #MacBook #Apple#Computers

  • Acrobat 9.3.4 is very slow to open files

    Greetings:
I have Acrobat 9.3.4 installed on a Dell Latitude D630 with a 2.4 GHz T7700 Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM. I re-installed Windows XP SP3 about a month ago due to some USB issues. The motherboard was replaced prior to that to try to resolve the USB issues, but the culprit turned out to be corrupted Windows USB drivers. There were other issues with IE which I was unable to resolve without an O/S re-install, so I went ahead and re-installed XP.
The laptop has been running great for the last four weeks and I've had Acrobat 9 installed on the laptop since then, too. It was functioning fine until yesterday. While opening a PDF file on my local hard drive, I saw no disk or CPU activity or any sign that Acrobat was even starting. I opened up Windows Task Manager and saw that Acrobat had started but was "not responding". About 30 seconds after I attempted to  start Acrobat, the file finally opened and browsing performance in the file was fine.
I have repaired my Acrobat installation (essentially a 10 minute re-install) and that did nothing to improve the startup speed. I have not knowingly changed any Acrobat settings in the last four weeks. I appreciate any suggestions you may have which may improve this situation. Thanks!

First let me disclose that I am not an expert nor even much less. However I used to have this slow as a turtle opening of FF until I got rid of my antivirus software which at the time was Avast. I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials and have had no problems since. FF loads in 3 to 4 seconds!

  • 24" Imac Slow Internet ****

I am in the DFW area using Verizon Fios - I have a D-Link DIR-655 router and a 24" Imac running Mac OS X 10.5.1. I purchased the Apple Airport router thinking the problem with internet speed might be my router. This was not the case - every computer in the house was much slower using the Airport - so I returned it to my Apple store.
I have now switched off the bluetooth and airport on my Mac - it is hooked straight into the router and every day at about 6:00 it slows down to turtle speed while my other 2 laptops that are wireless in the house and much older - are lightening fast.
I have called Verizon and had them out - they say there are not enough people on Fios to create any traffic problems at certain times of the day - which I believe being that the Apple Imac is the only computer with the problem.
I have downloaded Firefox and have the exact same problem.
I called Apple Support on one of my days off work - and spent 2.5 hours on the phone with them - they suggested reinstalling the entire operating system - I haven't done this yet - I really DO NOT think it is necessary or that it will help. They were not able to offer any solutions.
There has got to be some solution for this - my speed checks out very fast during this time - T2 speed for download and upload - I'm ready to throw this apple out the window.

I think the DNS servers handed out by Verizon's FiOS are overloaded.
I've had great success using 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 instead. You can set this in the System Preferences->Network preference pane->Built-In Ethernet->"DNS Server:" field.

  • MacBookPro warm problem and slow issue.

    Hi,
My MacBookPro get hot like an OVEN, It's slow like a turtle, and it frozen like an iceberg. Why? Someone any idea? Do I have a defectuous one?
The problem may OS.X Lion? I have a Macbook air and an Imac with Leopard and I'm very happy with those.
Like I said last night (but the post has been removed) I'm desapointed with my MacBookPro. I should not say "I'm desapointed" that again... because I will got no help to fix my issue and I will see my post removed again.
Anyway, Some of you guy's got the same problem I have? Someone has resolved this problem? Don't tell me to put my Mac in the fridge please. If I got my Macbookpro on my knees and I use it to work my stuff, after 2 minutes it turn in a oven and I can't stand it, and of course he got slow and froze.
    Thank you for any help.
    Regards.
    David

Thank you very much for your help Stedman1.
I just follow your advice and the most high level on the CPU I have right now it's about 3.7 and it's VLC media player. I have rght now the MacBookPro on my knees, and writing this reply, I can feel the warming get more intense.
    I believe I got a defectuous item.
    Thx again Stedman1

  • Liquify very slow processing

I recently upgraded to a faster processor including SSD for a scratch disc. Although I have 32gig of ram with CS5 running on Windows 7 and it never uses a scratch.  I thought I could save an hour a week with waiting for liquify to do it's thing but as usual, liquify runs out of puff after several strokes on my standard 80meg file, and has done on every system and PS version I have ever owned.
Yes I know there are ways around it, like reducing file size and saving grid etc. All that is time wasting and it shouldn't be necessary with these specs. This has been the same for years. It's as slow as it ever was.
I have searched through this forum and the internet and I can't find the answer. No, there are no slow drives or memory cards plugged in that luiqify would want to mysteriously use. My Videio card is Nvidia GTX 680 but have had plenty of others in the past and liquify was still slow as a turtle. Everything else is super fast.
How do I make liquify work properly utilise available RAM or fast scratch discs, or even better, just work properly.

    GarrySarre wrote:

Not directly related to your main question, but this statement is flawed.  Photoshop ALWAYS opens scratch files.  I have 48GB and just opening Photoshop causes scratch files to be created with names like Photoshop Temp208190803952.
I only mention this because if you're not seeing such files created, you may not have your Scratch preferences or permissions set right.
Can you screenshot your Edit - Preferences - Performance panel, please, and post it here?
And a last note that DOES bear on your Liquify issues:  If you're truly using Liquify a lot, you really, REALLY need to look into upgrading to Photoshop CS6.  You know they re-wrote it to use the GPU in the new version, right?  It's night and day faster.

  • Mountain Lion fast at first, then slow.

I installed Mountain Lion on a 2008 iMac [6GB RAM] and upgraded to Adobe CS6. Fantastic performance for 5 days--I mean several programs open at once, lightening fast...5 days later, out of the blue, slow as a turtle.
Same thing happened when I upgraded to Lion--great at first, then almost unusable.
Both times it was like a new computer, super speedy, then ground to a halt. Please advise.

Things You Can Do To Keep Your Computer From Slowing Down
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Websites slow to load

i have an imac with osx 10.4.9. lately it has been slow to load websites. I have a 8 megabit connection via comcast. i tested the connection speed and it actually around 4-5 mbps which is fine. however, the computer loads websites extremely slowly- regardless of what browser i use.
my roommate also has an imac. when testing them next to eachother, his computer can open up webpages almost 3 times as fast as mine.
it sometimes can take me a good 10-15 seconds to open a site like google (which normally takes me no more than one or two seconds).
I know my internet connection is actually very fast because when downloading things, it goes faster than any connection i've ever had. for some reason it just is very slow to load webpages.
i am wondering what could be the cause of this and what can i do to fix it? i HAVE deleted my browsing history a few times in the past week to try to clean up some clutter, but i've done that before and it never made a difference. it just seems odd to me that downloads would go so fast but webpages would load so slowly.
    thanks!!

There has got to be some solution for this - my speed checks out very fast during this time - T2 speed for download and upload - I'm ready to throw this apple out the window.

  • Slow initial connection to internet via wireless router

    Hi,
I have a D-Link Xtreme N 450 wireless router that I used with a MacBook Pro running 10.9.3.  When I first open the computer, the internet quickly connects (I can surf, get email, etc), but after a few seconds it disconnects, searches for a wireless router, and then gives me the exclamation point in the wireless icon.  It stays down for a 1-3 minutes, then mysteriously reconnects.  I've looked everywhere for a solution and cannot seem to find one.  I ran wireless diagnostics and got one error message that may be the problem - it says a nearby wireless router has the wrong country code and could be causing problems.  But has anyone else had this issue or think they know of a potential solution?
    Thanks!

am in the DFW area using Verizon Fios - I have a D-Link DIR-655 router and a 24" Imac running Mac OS X 10.5.1.

  • Why does Adobe Premiere Elements 11 download my videos to my computer so slowly?

Hey guys, I have been using Adobe Premiere Elements 11, for quite some time, and I noticed that its download speed is as slow as a turtle. I know it is not my download speed, because when I download files from the internet, or games, it goes as fast as anything. Just so you have more information, I will tell you have my recording/uploading process goes. First, I record the video (Using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Screen Capture). Then, I would send it to my video encoder. (Microsoft Expression Encoder 4). I would then encode the video, and send that output file to Adobe Premiere Elements 11 for further editing and to download it to my computer. Now, everything up to this point takes maybe 30 minutes. But when I get to Adobe, it takes more less 3 hours (give or take a few minutes). Finally, after all that waiting, I upload it to Youtube, which takes about an hour or so. My problem is Adobe is taking far to much time to install/download the video. And as a result of that, I can only put out about a video a day. Is there any way to speed that up, or should I just get a new editing software? All feedback, and help is greatly appreciated.

The typical ways to introduce media into Premiere Elements 11 is via AddMedia which puts the source media into Project Assets and from there you drag the contents to the Timeline Expert view edit.
    These would be your choices.
You say that you used Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 and a picture from Photoshop Elements 11.
Given that you are doing screen captures with Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 and you have a photo from Photoshop Elements 11, but how are you introducing them into Premiere Elements 11? At the same time that we are looking into the how, we need to look into the what, especially for the screen captures. The video and audio formats and file extension among other things are important to the Premiere Elements workflow.
So, again I would ask you to offer answers to what I had asked
I am assuming that you are talking about the time it takes for the video to import into Project Assets for you to drag to the Timeline. Are you observing any indexing and/or conforming going on (bar at bottom right of Expert view interface) during this 3 hour await time?
Among other things, what are you using for Add Media and to get to Project Assets? And, the usual drill, what are the properties of your source media, including size and duration, video and audio compression, file extension, etc.? By comparison what is the size and duration of those Internet games et al. that seem to be transferring to your expectations?
Is this one of those issues where "it never worked before" or "it worked before but not now" specific to Adobe files of the size and duration and properties that you are focusing on?
I see the answers to all of the above as expediting the matter to get your concerns addressed.
    Please review.
    Thank you.

  • Noutbook problems

    Good Evening!
I am here for the first time and do not know who to contact with a problem. I have a laptop HP ProBook4530s series bought two months ago. Appearing problem with the program for recording DVD, first on her sound disappeared then the computer was rebooted independently and show a "blue screen of death", I deleted the program but the problem persists. The computer boots, but slow as a turtle, and after all is loaded and immediately pops up BSOD, it only works in Safe Mode. Dumps indicate an incompatible driver, but in safe mode can not remove them.
I took the laptop to the store where it was purchased where he was taken to conduct the test. A week later I pozvanili and told to blame the operating system and reinstall will cost 50 euros, plus 45 euros up files. I refused, then told that the computer will return a week later because he did not have them, they gave it to you for review and should be up to and this laptop back, but now he is not completely in working condition. It is loaded, but there are no drivers for the video card, graphics card, motherboard, and so on. everything else was filmed password to my account, just turned off UAC and an installed two what that program. I wrote a letter to the address of the store, I received from I wrote a letter to the address of the store, I received the answer that reinstall the operating system and installs the program HP Recovery Manager to restore all the drivers. But the laptop is very slow, and when you go to the page begins to slow and freezes.
The question arises whether it is possible to roll back the system as it is to its operating condition or reinstall? Store refuses to change it say that the computer must be in working condition, but Wedboo before I took it in for repair, he worked as a driver and it was, and this unfortunate posvle test all is lost as it is now to be and what do I do?

Does it give you a specific error message on the blue screen?
