Slow back up when updating iphone to 5.0

When starting the update process for my iPhone 4 to 5.0 software the back up is taking hours and hours. Is there something I can do to speed up this process?

This is the iPhoto forum and has nothing to do with iPhones, text messages, etc.  Ask your question in the iPhone forum or the iOS 6 forum.

When updating iphone does it delete photos, contacts & music? First time doing this. Help please

Back Ups are important to make, and doing so is good advice. Update of iPhone does not delete any of your data, or content. Restore of iPhone however, erases everything, then you can allow iTunes or iCloud to rebuild your iPhone from a back up. Backing up is smart because if the Update stalls or does not work, the solution is a Restore, which again erases the iPhone, so you need to have a back up.

Turned off the sidebar, and closed any programs in the notifications section such as nokia ovi etc which load up when the computer starts also skype.

  • Incredibly  Slow Back Up When Syncing

Now that there's apps on the iPhone the back up when syncing is incredibly slow. This one I'm doing at the moment is taking 20 minutes.
Was the same with my iPhone and iPhone 3G. Surely this cant be permanent, I frequently quickly add songs to my iPhone before I'm off out.

From here, the OutlookSyncClient or something like that seems to be using up the CPU usage. Restart your computer, then it got faster for the syncing for me.
(Most recent sync of my iPhone after my restart: 23.7 seconds)

  • Error when updating iPhone software.

error: [There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone "Eliz's iPhone". You do not have permission to access the requested resource.] I am trying to update iPhone to version 1.1.4 and I get the above error. I have reset the iPhone, restarted my computer, updated and repaired iTunes software (7.6.1.9)and nothing works. Has anybody else had this problem? Anybody know how to fix it?

Well I checked and all my USBs are 5.0 or higher. However, i have 4+ USB ports on the back of my computer. I tried two different ones and the second one allowed me to pull in my photos (which i could not do before). However, It still will not let me update the iPhone software. Same error - you do not have permission to access the selected resource.

  • Error code -43 when updating iphone 4 to new 5.0 software

I have the iphone 4 and can't get the new 5.0 software update. It barely gets halfway through backing it up when it says error code (-43) and if I click continue all contents will be lost! Please help!

    Hey!!
After many failed attempts this is what worked for me:
Step 1. Right click on your phone in the left hand side bar and select Back Up
Step 2. Restore your phone and use the option where you restore and update
Step 3. When its done it will ask you to use the back up you previously completed
    Hopefully this works for you!!!

  • -50 error when updating iphone???

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to update/back-up my iPhone 4 to the latest version. I've been sucessful in updating itunes, however, when I try to update my phone, the (-50 error message appears. It gives me the option to continue or cancel. It warns me that if I continue, it will delete all content. I'm concerned I will lose everything if I continue".
If anyone has any step by step information on how to fix , it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    jamiefromon

If you have a backup stored in itunes you have nothing to worry about if not just right on you iphone under device and choose backup.
As far as the error message goes if you search that message (-50) on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 it refers you to errors 13 and 14 which states
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Hope that works for you

  • HT201302 Lost photos from camera roll when updating iphone

does anyone know where to find photos that were on the camera roll that are now lost. i updated my i phone and it has deleted about 1000 photos from my camera roll and i cant find them anywhere.

Photos in the Camera Roll are designed to be imported to the computer regularly to back them up. They should not be stored only on the phone, just like on a digital camera. Photos in the camera roll are in the iPhone backup file, so if you restored from a backup after updating, then they should be in the backup, unless you have done a backup since then. If you have an older backup done while the photos were on the phone, you can restore to that backup, however understand anything done since that backup would be lost.

  • Stuck on backing up when updating to 5.01

when i try to update my ipod touch to version 5.01 it gets stuck on backing up! what do i do?

Try moving the backup file(s) to a safe location so iTunes has to create an entire new file. If/when you get a good backup, you can remove the move backup(s).  The backup is located here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

    Hello UKFan643,
It sounds like you are seeing more data being used on your iPhone than you expect.  Sometimes other data is being used by information like contacts, calendars, the iOS software installed on your device, settings, and other system resources.  I recommend reviewing the following articles to learn more about storage capacity on your iPhone:
Understanding capacity on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1867
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2419
If you are still seeing more "other" data than expected, it may be that the iPhone was disconnected during syncing:
In the case of iOS device becoming physically disconnected in the middle of syncing music, podcasts, videos or photos, it's possible that orphaned files will be left on the iOS device. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions.
One symptom of this issue will be displayed in iTunes where the Capacity indicator for the iOS device will report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the device. To resolve this issue:
You can find more information and steps to resolve this issue at the following link:
