Slow BB download speed after 16:30. Works fine in ...

I'm at wits end with BT and the service I receive. I only wish I could choose to pay a 10th of the price for the service I receive. I have tried to use the BT call centre with no avail. The words “chasing ones tail” spring to mind. Hence adding my troubles to the already growing forum.
As the performance is there during the day, this doesn’t sound like a hardware problem, but something that BT is doing on their side when the demand gets high. I can fully understand a drop in download speed, but I think a 10th of the speed is over the top.
Please can someone help??
 My Problem:
After 16:30 the BB service starts to move at dial-up speeds, but will work fine again after 02:00 am... Yes I am that sad that I have tried to work at that time.
I have run the BT speedtest and speedtest.net a number of times during the day to try to see what is happening:
I have also tried using the BT HH2 and my preferred router, a Netgear DGND3300. Here are some of the stats:

  • Slow wifi download speeds on 3gs??

Is anyone else experiencing slow wifi download speeds?? I upgraded from a first gen iPhone to the 3gs & the first thing I noticed was downloading stuff from iTunes, app store, or YouTube, Takes forever!! Example... If I put both of my phones side by side, both connected to wifi, start downloading a 36 mb podcast at the same time, my first gen iPhone will finish the file in about 2 mins and my new 3gs will take anywhere from 8 to 10 mins. Is there a problem with the 3.0 firmware or is the problem just my phone?? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I'v been dealing all day on this issue, I upgraded to the 3GS model and my wife still has the 3g, I don't have the fastest network at my house (1.5 meg) but her phone is coming in about 1021kbps and mine is 241, which seem like a big difference, especially when trying to view youtube, apple store just gave me a new phone, and it still has the same problem. I reset it, restored it, replaced it, and after replacing it I did not restore from backup but still have the same issue. I do access internet via a time capsule for whatever thats worth, and I also checked with tech support about that being the problem and we found that to not be the problem. *****, I paid $300 and committed to AT&T for another 2 years, for internet at a quarter of the speed...

Apparently you have two catalogs now, one from each installation. If you did importing, tagging and editing during the first installation, that will all be in the first catalog. Find the first catalog - it is a file with the suffix .lrcat and the default place for LR to put it is usually your Pictures folder - and (with LR closed) double-click on it. LR will launch with catalog #1 active.

    Hi Bobgriff43,
If your iPhone will not turn on, you may find the following article helpful:

It could be a software issue. I would reinstall the OS. You don't have to lose or reinstall any apps from archive and install. This way, your user folder remains intact but you get a fresh copy of the OS.

  • Awful download speeds after upgrade to OS X Lion

    Good evening all Mac-users!
I have searched the forum for an answer but as far as I can see the only problem that's in common with mine occurs on iPad's. However, I have a MacBook that I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, everything works fine except one thing, the download speeds.
After the installation of Lion my download speeds (from everything, torrents, ipsw's, music etc) is around 1/50 of it's original speed. It's not the network cause other computers that's connected to the same network works without problem.
What could it be? Does Lion have a firewall or something that block the downloads?
    Thank you in advance everyone!

Sorry about that. I misunderstood the notation "~/Library" to mean the Library at the root of the hard drive. There is indeed an iWeb Domain in "Users/Trixi/Library/Application Support/iWeb". The iWeb Domain appears to be intact being 175MB. It shows a status of Last Opened/Modified: Today @ 10:47 which is when all this started.
However, nothing else had changed from my original post - iWeb did not function. All its menu choices were greyed out. When I selected "Hide Others" all open windows disappeared and iWeb was active but with no window at all.
As you pointed out, I was misreading folder locations. So, while writing this reply, I thought I'd double check another action I'd tried. It was posted by kt4ever under "iWeb and Lion problems" here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3233238
and - it worked! My Domain is back, just as I'd left it. I only performed the following subset though:
Go to Users/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist and drag file to trash.
    Also delete com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile.
    Empty trash.
    Open iweb.

  • Slow safari download speeds

While safari loads web pages very quickly, it is extremely slow when downloading documents, installers, etc... onto my computer, downloading at speeds around 5 to 10 kb/second, causing even small downloads to take ages. (A 20mb download can take up to an hour or more).
(My downloads run at about 100 to 110 kb/second on my windows PC which is connected to the same router)
I have tried stopping and then resuming downloads, but that doesn't work. Also, there is clearly nothing wrong with my internet connection, as safari loads webpages remarkably fast.
Is there any software/changes that need to be added or is it an issue within safari?

    Hi there Jeff,
The slow downloading speed and other performance issues with Safari may be related to unsupported third-party add-ons. Take a look at the article linked below and try to remove any outdated add-ons for Safari.
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues - Apple Support

  • Using Speedtest, all my iOS 7.1 devices are showing slow internet download speeds on my home WiFi network.

I have four iOS devices, an iPad Air, an iPhone 5S, an iPhone 4, and an iPad2.  All but the iPad2 are running iOS 7.1.  The iPad2 is still iOS 7.0.4.  I am only getting 1mbs download speeds with the iOS 7.1 devices.  The iPad2, as well as my Windows 7 laptop on the same WiFi network, are getting a full 15mbs download speed using the Ookla Speedtest.  I have tried resetting the wireless router, as well as resetting the network configurations on the iOS devices, rebooting the devices, etc., but the slow speeds persist.  While I can't definitively tie the issue to the iOS 7.1 upgrade, I distinctly recall running speedtests on the iPad Air in the past, and getting 15mbs.
    Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, Jim.  I double-checked my wireless router settings against the recommendations in the link you provided.  Only one setting was different.  I had the 2.4GHz channel width set to auto, and the recommendation is 20MHz.  I made this change.  The 5GHz channel is disabled on my router.
After the change, I got mixed results.  My iPhone 5S now gets over 15Mbs, but my iPad Air gets less than 1Mbs.  My iPad2, as well as my laptop, continue to get over 15Mbs.  I don't think the issue is with the router configuration at this time.  Any other suggestions?

  • Very slow iTunes download speeds

I've been having slow download speeds in iTunes for a while now. Downloading a 1 hour TV Show used to take 1 hour or so. Now it's taking 11 hours. Xfinity speed tests say I'm getting 28 mb/s downloads.
    Some info:
    iTunes 10.6 for Windows
Apple Air Extreme - the pc is hard wired to the router
    Comcast as ISP
    Using my ISP's DNS servers

I have a 50x5 Mbit cable business class modem, from Time Warner, in my house (doing that give me priority bandwidth over other residences).... Also as a business class there's no data caps or port blockings.  The most I EVER get from the iTunes Store is 4-5MBytes/sec (about 35 Mbits)... Usually I get 1-2 MBytes/sec to iTunes or any device
    My guesses are
    1) Apple just doesn't have the bandwidth during certain times
    2) I notice they throttle accounts. If I download an entire hd season, I start out fast, then it slows after a few hrs... Im guessing apple has a max data cap per day then slows you down.
    3) I also don't think Apple is capable of handling all the new 35-50Mbit connections that are now readily available from the big cable companies.
    Im in Charlotte, NC, USA

  • Slow Internet download speed, OSX 10.9.5

Since updated to 10.9.5, my Mac Pro Internet download speed down to 7 Mbps,
and same on My MacBook Pro 10.9.5 too. both use to be 70 Mbps.
I am paying $50.00 extra to get the highest speed from Time Warner.
My iMac is 10.9.3, tops 70 Mbps.
My iPhone 5s tops tops 30 Mbps
    All in same WiFi network.
Upload speed all seem to be fine with 5 Mbps.
    Mac Pro = Mid 2010
Processor  2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
Mac Book Pro = Retina, 13-inch Late 2012
    Memory = 8 GB
    Something wrong!

Even the 'respected' tools like Onyx, if you look at what (each and every update) states in the "what is new" and changes will be to improve compatibility.
Never use or install anything (and I include OS X updates in that category) without cloning your system and having TimeMachine that is current, and backup(s) that will be off line.
Some cannot be trashed or deleted or removed without using an "uninstall app" or the installer, doing so without can mean having to reinstall first.
Or wipe the drive and restore from a known good backup set.

  • Slow LAN Networking Speeds after Resuming from Sleep

I use my mac mini as a HTPC running Plex. I have it connected to my Windows media server with 802.11n. Works fine but sometimes after resuming from sleep the network speed drops off to an unacceptable level (from 72 Mb/sec to 5 Mb/sec). Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn't help. Switching to G doesn't help. Only restarting the mini restores the connection to full speed.
None of my Windows clients on the same network have any troubles.
    Thoughts?

Looks like Plex might be causing the problem. I always have plex running and it appears as though if Plex makes a request for a file on the share before OS X is done re-mounting it after sleep, it kills the whole process.
Shouldn't the OS be robust enough to handle a situation like this?

  • Slow BT download speed

i just wonder is it part of OSX nature for slow BT download rate or juts some setting problem .
    Same torrent ,same condition.
ON OSX using Transmission or Azureus with port OPEN
alway only get about 1/3 -1/2 speed for the same torrent compare with Utorrent on XP.
is there any thing i can do to improve the download speed ?
    thx a lot.

Whilst software (especially music!) is much better and (in the long run) cheaper when bought from licensed shops etc (if you are e.g. a student, you often get stuff at 1/2 - 1/10th of the price!), more to your question, download speeds can vary dramatically, depending on time of the day, firewalls and available feeds.
Some broadband providers use telephone lines, some dedicated cable. Others mostly support (Windows PC's) and their platforms may not be set up for Macintosh.
Finally, e.g. someone in the UK, you do not make it clear, whether you refer to "British Telecom" (BT), whose down and upload speeds are not that impressive at times, OR are referring to "Bittorrent".
Hope you find some of the above useful.

  • Slower 4G Download Speeds and Higher Pings Tonight

Stillwater, OK. Tonight, the DL speeds and ping times are worse than normal. UL speeds are unaffected.
Normal speeds, representative of the last few weeks...
Tonight's speeds (similar results to different test servers in the area)...
Ping times have more than doubled, and the download speed has been cut to ~25% of normal. If I try a test server on the east coast, I get something like the following (bad UL speeds too)...
Scary to think this could be due to the tower becoming overloaded (it is prime time) so early in the 4G game. The only other thing I can think of is that its particularly humid tonight, but why would that affect mainly the DL speed and not the UL speed?

Speeds were still slow this morning, so I power-cycled the modem (and router). Speeds are back to normal, so it seems like I just needed to reboot the gear.

  • Slow 3G Download Speed

I've been having slow download speeds on my Iphone 3G for the 3G connection. I've had the phone for about 2 months and its been perfect until the speeds shot down in last two weeks. I did a scan on testmyiphone.com on my 3G download stream and it ended up being 0.11 MBPS. I did the same scan at the same location with my mates iphone and he had 1.5MBPS so it can't be location. I've tried reseting the network settings and restoring the phone but nothing has solved the issue. Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

It is not necessary to make multiple posts about the same problem. Let users respond to one post only with answers.

  • Horrifically slow ATV2 download speed

I live in Phoenix with Cox Communications as my ISP. I just tried to rent Inception HD from Apple and it says it will be ready to view in 5 hours 47 minutes.... this is totally unacceptable! I can login to Netflix (I just tried and confirmed) with the highest quality video available and it buffers and starts in a matter of minutes. Is there something significantly different happening from Apple that would cause such a wait time? Thinking it might be my ISP, I disconnected everything, rebooted all the devices and see the same behavior. If I need wait 5 hours for each HD video, ATV is useless to me.
Anyone else experiencing poor performance on ATV in the Phoenix area?

The quality may not be as good but at least it's "On Demand" and not after a two hour+ wait time.
Frankly, I thought the quality was substandard for the file I downloaded--i.e., a free iTunes "digital copy" of a Blu-ray disc released last Tuesday. I normally encode my own content, but as the DVD version of the movie was not locally available, I opted to try the download so as to compare my files with what I assumed to be "typical" iTunes SD encode quality. The file appeared to be an H.264 "context adaptive" encode using video settings that produced pre-iPhone 4 level bit rate output (i.e., video under 1 Mbps). Since I normally use a video data rate in the 2.0 to 3.0 Mbps for SD widescreen and 2.5 to 3.5 Mbps SD 4:3 content, I was shocked by these stats. (I.e., whoever encoded the file used a 640x362 encode matrix for an 853x362 anamorphic display where I would have used the DVD's 720x480 encode matrix for the 853x480 anamorphic output.) In any event, I was both surprised and disappointed with what I assumed was supposed to be a commercial quality. And, while the file was viewable, I had expected more and will be interested to see if my custom settings will reduce color banding. Unfortunately, my iTunes download experience is very limited so I do not know if this was typical. (I.e., my only other experience was in March of 2009 and that file used the same encoding settings but the graphic complexity of the source content pushed the output video bit rate more than 50% higher than this encode.)
In any event, I doubt I will be purchase downloading much content until or unless download speeds are more consistent on a 24/7 basis and not subject to traffic congestion/bottlenecks. As to SD rental streaming, the 6.5 Mbps seems more than sufficient for SD rentals, but can anyone who has both rented and purchased the same HD movie provide any information as to the typical playback data rate of HD files. Would not want to close the door on the possibility of renting HD files but neither am I willing to waste money randomly testing a dozen of them myself if 6.5 Mbps is insufficient to view them in a timely streaming manner.
