Slow Boot of Windows after installing Anyconnect Client

We have just migrated our Windows 7 x64 SP1 machines from the Cisco IPSec client to Cisco Anyconnect  3.1.02x.
Users have immediately noticed the negative effect that the AnyConnect client upgrade has had on their machines - Adding an additional ~20 seconds to PC boot time. (NB: Boot time classified as the time it takes from power on, to the 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' logon screen).
Has anyone else encountered issues like this post migration? Anybody know of any timeout settings, or other settings that I could adjust within the AC client to reduce the impact on boot time?
Thanks,
- Scott.

I haven't tested with Anyconnect 3.0. Is there a particular reason that I should?
Good point re: the modules. The modules that I have installed (beliving that this would represent a fairly standard install) are:
Base Windows Client
Network Access Manager (Used to connect to our corporate WiFi)
Start Before Logon
DART (Not sure if I need this component?)
--Perhaps I could look at ditching SBL and DART if these are not typically installed?
I have been scanning the Windows System, Application eventlogs, as well as the Cisco Anyconnect eventlogs. I have tried to locate any mentions of a timeout, but have had no success as yet.
Setting the Cisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager, Network Access Manager Logon Module and Secure Mobility Client services to disabled has the machine booting some 20 seconds faster (of course Anyconnect client is then disabled)
I was expecting a small impact to boot time, but had not prepared our users for a 20 second increase!

  • MSI GE620 can't boot to windows after installing CoreCenter 2.0.6.8

I have made a very huge mistake by installing an overclocking software without knowing anything about overclocking :(
Here is what I have done
    - I installed CoreCenter version 2.0.6.8, after the installation finished it ask me to reboot the system, so I reboot.
    - First my system won't shutdown it tell be that S-Bar (an toolbar that come with my GE 620 laptop) prevent me from shutdown, so I hit force shutdown. Then the system started to shutdown but it stuck at windows logo (Shutting down screen) so I hold down the power button to force turn off
    - Windows gives me an option to boot into safe mode (because I hold down the power button and it is unexpected shutdown), I hit start Windows normally
    - It goes into a Windows logo screen like normal, but it won't boot. It's just stuck at the Windows logo screen. At this time I tell myself "OMG what I have done!???"
    - I try most option in a boot option (not sure what it called, it's a menu brings up when you press F8). I tried boot into safe mode, safe mode with cmd (both stuck at loading disk.sys), repair system, enable low res (640x480), last known good config, Directory service restore mode and debugging mode. None of them are able to boot.
    - I grab a Windows 7 Ultimate repair disc that I have created long time ago. And.... "Oh no! It even cannot boot into a repair disc!"
    - I give a Hiren's BootCD 15.2 a try. I boot Mini XP from that disc and..... It can't even boot XP from the CD.
    - Ok Ok, maybe it mess something with BIOS setting, I press DEL into a BIOS setting (I believed) and hit restore all setting to default. Unfortunately, my system still won't boot.
Any idea of how I can uninstall this CoreCenter or any clues that what it have done to my system?
The only thing I know for now is just re-installing Windows, but I need to backup some data in C:/ first. I think I can install windows without formatting and backup some data and re-install it with format.
    My system information
MSI GE620 laptop (All of hardware is stock, I didn't change anything. Just install extra 4 GB of RAM)
    CPU: Core i7 2630QM
    GPU: nVidia GeForce GT 540M / 1 GB DDR3
    RAM: 8 GB
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Update: I can't even boot from a Windows 7 installation disc!! *cry*

Having not yet installed Developer 6 on my own system, (still running most recent 200 version), I can't be exactly sure. However your problem sounds a lot like the problem I encountered in trying to get my Dev 2000 install to connect.
Here are some things to check:
    Is your listener running?
Is your listener properly configured to look for your host machine?
Look in the Oracle Net 8 Assitant utility and see how many listeners have been established. This is where my problem existed. I had 2 listeners. One was trying to connect to my loop back address (127.0.0.1) and could not. The other was properly configured for my host address but would not run because of the failure of the other. Once I removed the listener the was using the loop back address things began to work.
Make sure you have the appropriate alias set up through SQL Net Easy Config and/or Net8 Config.
Thats all I can think of for now.
Hope something I said will help.

  • Can't boot into Windows after installing with Boot Camp

So I installed Windows 7 on a separate 70GB partition using Boot Camp. Everything seems fine, but once installation finished and the computer restarted for the final time, the computer shows the blinking "_" on the black screen and then promptly reboots and this cycle continues without end.

please re-post in the more appropriate Boot Camp forum

    What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

My mac has become very slow and crashes frequently after installing Lion. I have a 4 GB DDR3 ram and 2.4 GHz Processor. The Mac was running just fine on Snow Leopard. Has anyone else faced this issue?
Any suggestions on how to solve it?

As a extra precaution I would copy the user file folders of Music, Documents, Pictures etc to another external drive and disconnect, just in case.

  • Will effect software to be erase in windows after install Leopard?

Any idea will effect those software are installed will be erased in windows section? like have to reinstall back all the software again or reformat the windows after installed the Leopard? Please advise if somebody know about it. Thank you in advance.

Installing Mac OS X 10.5 will not erase the Windows partition or anything on it; only using the Disk Utility to erase the partition or repartition the drive will.

  • 2010 Mac Pro Boot Camp - Refuses to boot Windows after installing Boot Camp drivers

    Hey all,
    I have a quad 3.2Ghz 2010 Mac Pro with a Radeon 5870 and 8 GB RAM.
I have 2 10000RPM WD Raptor drives, the first drive is my Lion boot drive. The 4th bay contains the second Raptor which has Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. Bay 2 has Time Machine, bay 3 has a Windows backup drive.
I had first installed Windows and the Boot Camp drivers a few months ago and everything was humming along smoothly. Monday I tried to boot into Windows and it crashed immediately after the black Booting Windows screen started to change to the login window. This happened repeatedly. Nothing changed on the system that I am aware of. Whenever I tried to boot windows again, it booted into the repair mode. That did not seem to work because after running the repair it would still not boot.
So I did what is usually required of Windows, and that was to reinstall. I reformatted the hard drive, ran Boot Camp assistant, and started the install.
Everything was peachy so far, so I tried to reinstall the Boot Camp drivers (4.0). Did a reboot. Same problem. Doh!
So I did ANOTHER reinstall, and everything was fine. But this time I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers off the os install disc that came with my Mac (3.1). Still no go!
So finally I did my third reinstall and after that I did not install Boot Camp drivers. However, I did load up the CD and individually installed drivers for the Apple Mouse, Apple Keyboard, Cinema Display, etc. No problems whatsoever. Everything is actually still humming along fine.
So it looks like running the full Boot Camp install for some reason no longer works. Which means I am missing the Apple Boot Camp control panel, but that's not really a big deal. Althought it's quite annoying to not have the functionality of the special Mac keyboard keys like volume control, etc.
Has anyone run into this? I thought it might be a hardware problem but my Mac OS X OS exhibits no problems whatsoever.
    Thanks!

    Thank you to The hatter.
I have a Mac Pro mid 2010 with a SSD and several internal hard disks. For some time I was trying to install Windows 7 on a fresh boot camp volume on a new WD 7200rpm 1TB hard disk. It was taking hours to install, and then I had a series of failures to reboot that proved permanent. The Window Repair utility would come up and took forever to repair the volume - but failed to actually do so, requiring completion reinstallation of the bootcamp volume. This occurred three times, between 1 day and 2 months after installation. I had already moved the Windows drive in to drive slot 1 of the Mac Pro.
Eventually I gave up and installed boot camp on a secondary partition of the SSD. This worked fine, however is limited in capacity. So yesterday I thought I would try to install Windows on the hard disk again. The Windows installer took many hours to do its thing, and eventually a message came up that the installation had failed.
I took your tip about possible hard disk failure, and ran Techtool Pro surface scan. It turns out that there are lots of bad blocks being reported. According to Micromat's documentation, the bad blocks being reported are those that may be in critical areas of the disk that cannot be mapped out. They recommend low level reinitialisation (with zeros) to map out the bad blocks, if possible. I am now running Apple's Disk Utility to do this, and fingers crossed that this reinitialisation succeeds, or I will have to replace the drive.

  • Can't boot into OSX or Windows after installing boot camp

    I used boot camp assistant
Clickced on the "32 gig" parititon size button... It did its magic, then asked for a Windows XP Disc.
I put the disc in, and the system rebooted.
    Upon reboot, XP install began
Got to the hard drive part, and it said "install on C: 130 gig unpartitioned space" (my drive is 1 terabyte). I thought it was a little odd since I clicked "32gb" on boot camp assistant, but I went ahead.
XP Went through install, and rebooted. Upon reboot, it simply booted to the XP Install Disc again and wanted to go back through same install. I ejected XP Disc, rebooted, and nothing starts up now.
I put the Leopard install disc in... Booted. It says there are no places to install Leopard to. I open disk utility, and all I have right now are:
disk0s1 (811gb) (which should be my mac disc!)
disk0s2 (259.4gb) - ??? This doesn't make sense, the drive is only 1tb, so the 2 partitions combined shouldn't equal more then 1tb!) This could be my WD Passport drive, but this still shows even with that unplugged.
It says that it is not mounted, if I try to mount it i just get an error saying "Mount failed - try running disk first aid and then retry mounting".
Disk first AID won't let me run, the repair disk button is greyed out.
I don't know what to do at this point, does anyone have anything that might be of help?

I've just escaped Boot Camp ****. Went to Boot Camp and it didn't start up as it has for a year.
It jumped to checking the XP hard drive and would not recognize the keyboard. No input possible. Finally got to XP and it restarted all over again before I could select starting up with OS X. Went through this a dozen times or so before I was lucky enough to get out of it and start in OS X using an OS X install disk.
What keystrokes are used to bail out of Boot Camp when it fails and start up in OS X?
I'm afraid to try to fix XP in Boot Camp unless I know for sure, as I'm visiting my folks and haven't brought all my software disks with me.
If all else fails, can I wipe the Boot Camp partition and reload XP?
Or must I wipe the whole drive and reload everything?
Thanks be I have a new fireWire 1 TB coming, but am also waiting on an ordered FireWire cable to arrive.
    Thanks

  • My computer slows down and hangs after installing oracle 10g

My computer just slows down after installing oracle 10g. I have a pentium 4 3ghz with 512 memory (32 mb used by graphics built in card). It slows down and hanged even if I agjusted the swap memory to 800 mb. I have two swap file/page file - in drive c and drive d. I even cannot shut it down because it takes maybe 30 minutes just to see the "shut-off/log-off" screen.

Before starting up Oracle, when you go to the task manager, how much RAM does it show actually free? 512 MB is pretty small to run Oracle in the first place-- Windows and Office can use a fair chunk of RAM themselves, depending on which Office apps you are running. You may also be suprised by the amount of RAM that a web browser, email client, and the various other apps that folks generally install can use.

Give your previous partition layout, you cannot install Windows via Bootcamp, unless you are willing to give up all your extra partitions and go back to EFI, OS X and RecoveryHD only configuration.

    1. Windows installer will not work and you will end up with driver issues.
    2. No.
    3. You cannot, but if you could, the Apple Bootmanager would be your Boot Manager/Loader.

  • Can't boot into Windows after splitting Mac partition with Disk Utility

    Hi everyone,
I installed Windows 8 with BOOTCAMP, creating a large 871 GB partition with a smaller 127 GB partition for Windows. After installing Windows, I then went back to Disk Utility to shrink the Mac partition and add two new partitions, one for storage and another blank, hoping to use it to install Linux into one day.
I did that, and now Windows doesn't boot. A Windows blue screen tells me I need to use the Windows DVD to repair it.
I tried to use Disk Utility to delete the two new partitions I made and grow the Mac partition back to the max size of 871 GB. But it doesn't let me do this. The Disk Utility log doesn't report an error and thinks it worked but the partition stays the same size. However if I make the partition a little smaller, like 870 GB then it works. I'm wondering if the Recovery partition is hiding there and preventing me from fully expanding the Mac partition.
    What can I do?
Here's what I get if I type in sudo gpt -r -vv show disk0:

    Kappy,
I can boot into OS X just fine so if possible, I'd like to avoid reformatting everything. If you know of a way I can add more than 2 partitions with OS X and Boot Camp, please let me know. As far as I know, rEFInd can recognize more than two partitions, but I don't think it can edit partitions on a GPT / hybrid MBR system. Or am I wrong?

  • Extremely slow boot time on fresh install (Cinnamon + GDM)

    Hi,
I have a fresh installation of Arch with Cinnamon + GDM taking about 2 minutes and 30 seconds (observed manually) from Grub menu to loading of desktop in usable condition.
It's installed on external USB drive. Although the hardware is old but rebooted within 15 seconds in VM on internal HD drive with same Cinnamon and SDDM.

    #5. Important observation:
hdparm -t reports 13.54 mb /sec reads for the external drive I am using for this installation. I don't face lag or slowness after boot including another distro installed on this drive had this problem.
Please help in further analyzing and fixing this problem.
    Thanks!

How fast does it boot to a tty? Disable gdm and boot to a tty. See if that is any faster than starting gdm. Gdm takes a while to start up if I run it on my computer and I have an SSD. But it will add several seconds to my boot time which from systemd-analyze is 9 seconds.
So, boot to a tty and use startx to start the session and see if it's any faster. 13MB/s seems like a pretty tight bottleneck for starting big applications like gdm and a desktop environment. I run a pretty simple openbox setup as my environment and it only uses 150 MB of memory after I startx. But if I could only load 13 MB /s from memory it would add another 11 seconds to the time it took me to startx.
So see how fast you can boot, and then see how fast you can load your desktop using startx. When I booted an install media of arch on an old computer with usb2 it took about 10 minutes to get everything going.

  • Can't boot from Windows XP Install DVD

A couple months ago I wanted to use Boot Camp for the first time to install Windows XP Professional (SP3) on my iMac8,1, but I ran into a lot of trouble. I got a lot of support from you guys but I ended up scratching the mission because of a problem that nobody could help me with at the time (I sought support on IRC, too). I will adduce the links to the threads regarding the issues that were more or less solved at the end of this post.
Today I decided to make a thread here and hope that this time somebody knows what to do, how to solve the weird problem that I'm having when I try to boot from the Windows XP Install DVD right after I partition the hard drive with Boot Camp Assistant.
So when the iMac restarts, after I have inserted the disc, and tries to boot from it, I randomly get one of the following three possibilities on the screen (and nothing happens after it):
    http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/6725/p3201160.jpg
    http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/105/p3201161.jpg
    http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2076/img0472zt.jpg
I burned the disc myself, so it's not the original disc from Microsoft. I did try re-burning the .iso file multiple times (both with Disk Utility and with the application called Burn), to no avail. The disc works fine with VirtualBox!
Please let me know if you have a possible solution and I will thank you for it greatly!

How should I go about this? (resetting my system with minimal losses?)

Only thing that comes to mind is did you try multiple types of burn media? Also, did you try burning at the slowest burn speed?

The National Instruments Domain Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

I checked the forums at NI and found a similar problem with a computer with Windows Vista installed. I have Windows XP Professional installed on the computer, but tried the update through the self updating feature of the NI software.
After the update the problem remains exactly the same.
To find out more about the error, I checked several Windows properties to identify the cause of the problem. One thing I found was on the Services control, under Administrative Tools. After the error message during boot, the services window shows up 2 services whose status is "Stopping" and the startup type is "Automatic". This services are:
    Lookout Citadel Driver
    National Instruments Time Sincronization
I'm using an IBM ThinkPad T30 (Type 2366-BG1) with Windows XP Professional with 768Mb of memory, 80GB HDD.
Can anyone give me some hints on this matter?
    Thank you in advance.

    Good morning.
I tried the steps suggested but the problem remained. I then decided to try some aditional steps and apparently the problem is solved. I describe the steps I took bellow.
The problem was related to my antivirus / firewall solution, Panda Antivirus + Antispyware 2007.
    1. I changed the previously mentioned Windows services startup to "Manual" instead of "Automatic".
    2. Rebooted the computer.
    3. Opened the services control in Administrative Tools.
    4. Selected the first service "Citadel..." and pressed the "Start" button.
    5. After a few seconds, the firewall solution presented a window stating that the program was attempting to access the internet (or my LAN). I selected "Always allow".
    6. I repeated this step for all the others NI services. Some produced the same feedback, others didn't.
    7. Changed the startup type of the services to the values I had written down before.
    8. Rebooted the computer and everything worked fine.
It seems my firewall solution is unable to cope with a program trying to access the Internet (or network) before a user logs in.
    Thank you for your support.
    Best regards,
    Alexandre Ventura

  • Can't boot from windows 7 install usb drive created in bootcamp

So, my real problem is that my Windows 7 install won't boot after I installed some windows updates. I'm using OSX Lion and the latest version of Bootcamp. I've had Windows installed on my mid 2011 mac mini for only about a day. It had been working flawlessly so far.
Windows automatically downloaded and installed some updates and now it is broken.
When I attempt to boot windows I get a black screen that just hangs forever. No windows logo, no blinking cursor, no nothing.
I thought I could use my Windows 7 Install usb drive to maybe try and do a recovery or repair install but now my USB drive wont boot either. I get the same black screen.
Any ideas on why I can't boot even the install usb drive?
Note: this is the same USB drive I used to install windows the first time so it's definately capable. I've even used my install iso to re-create the usb drive installer and still nothing.

Install ISO means you burned DVD installer and did you reduce burn speed? otherwise it is a bad install.
3rd party updates? for security suite? stick to MS Security Essentials instead.
