Slow Browser Plug-in download speeds on certain files?

Has anyone ever seen where certain h.264 files download slower then they should? i have a movie on this home page which seems to load fine (its in itunes format scaled up to double size):
ballersinc.com
and then on this page i have an example using a higher quality implementation:
revideolisting.com/1943chelsea
they are both hosted on the same shared hosting server through aplus.net. and when i ftp i get 3mbps no problem. i have noticed that a lot of times the files which are set to about 800 kbps will download quickly at first but then slow down alot and then go in fits and starts.
Im wondering if this has to with system speed on the users end or maybe it would help if i put more pre-roll on the files?
Please help you all are my only hope!

ive also also noticed that if you pause the playback the download accelerates which would seem to indicate that playback system speed does infact effect it anyone know how to reduce processor usage in qt files ive notice that diferent bitrate settings and codecs seem to effect it to some degree but it would be nice if there were any guidlines for optimizing or at least determining minimum playback system specs

  • Slow streaming on  atv3  download speed

I have a 1080p Apple TV.  I just did a speed test and I have a download speed of 25 mbps.  I have my atv3 plugged into a base station.  I find that when I play trailers I get slow start up and will often stop a couple of times to catch up with the streaming.  I've called cable company and all is well with internet, any suggestions to speed things up?  Thank you.

I have the same experience with the ATv2. It's strange that apple is not putting a Gb Ethernet port on the Atv3 ....

  • Slow Download Speed for VHD file

Hello, I've looked for the answer to this problem on multiple different sites, but to no avail.
I'm trying to download a 29.2 GB VHD file that crashed up in the cloud so that I can attempt to fix it, or recover the files. Unfortunately, I am achieving abysmal download speeds, even though speedtest indicates that it should be much higher. For example,
right now speedtest indicates that I have a 5MBs connection, but my download is capping at about 1 MBs +- 20KBs. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is there anyway to get around this?
    Thanks in advance.

You can achieve up to 30 gigabits/sec of egress for a locally redundant storage account and up to 60 MB/sec or up to 500 requests per second for a single blob (See Azure Storage Scalability and Performance Targets article
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-scalability-targets/ for more info).
You can also turn on storage analytics/metrics to find out the total egress that you were able to achieve in Azure Storage (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn782843.aspx)
to rule out the possibility of hitting the scalability limit.

  • Download speeds vs. File download speeds ?

    Hello, and good day. TIA
I have been curious about the difference between these two. I am on a DSL connection and am getting 5000/650kbps consistantly on various different online speedtests. This information matches the level "Pro" that I am signed up for.
When I download files from Apple, Versiontracker, Macupdate, etc... It downloads these files consistantly at 400-500kbps.
Why would this be? I have searched many posts, and have found people saying they are downloading at speeds of 5000+. I can't seem to figure out what there 5000 number represents. I have also found posts where people say there setup similar to mine preformes like mine, and this is normal.
    Could somebody explain?
    Thanks, Ian

    Hello Ian:
The sites you mentioned are heavily used. I am guessing, but I suspect the speeds you noted are a function of the server load at those locations at that time.

Reply from mod, oh thats easy the files for hd are some huge that sky go can't play them and no app can stream hd due to this and so when they say they are they're really sd streams, if there was any way around this we would have done it now.

  • Extremely Slow Download Speeds when MacBook Pro is not plugged in.

I have a MacBook Pro 17" that I bought in May of 2007. I have Verizon High Speed DSL service. I have a Netgear wireless router. When my MacBook Pro is plugged in to a power outlet, it has very fast download speeds. As soon as I unplug it, it slows way down. I am talking like 2 or 3 minutes to load a page that would normally take about 1 second. Is there a setting I can change?

i have a similar problem. My MBP is taking a while to load pages. I dont know if its my internet speeds or my computer.

  • Normal download speeds, incredibly slow browsing

I've got an airport extreme that I've been having problems with. I get some pretty fast download speeds when downloading a file from Safari or Firefox, anywhere between 150kb/s and 300kb/s. However, my internet browsing speed is at a crawl. It can take between 30 seconds and 1 minute to load Apple's homepage whether I'm using Safari or Firefox. Can someone help me out with this? Are there some settings I need to change? Thank you!

I was having the same problem as you. I recently (tonight) installed a new Extreme N and was noticing that this was happening.
Even Google's website was taking a while to load. What I did is changed the DNS servers from AT&T's to public ones. I'm using 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 and this seems to have corrected the problem. Browsing is back to normal speeds, but I'd be skeptic to call this a "fix", since it's been about 20 minutes since I made the chance, so I'm not sure if this will really fix it, but if you want to try it you've got nothing to lose.
Let me know if it helps!

  • 38mbs download speed, slow browsing bur fast downl...

    Hi,
I currently get 38meg download speed from BT however my general browsing is not very fast at all. In fact standard broadband I have about 6 months ago was faster!!
My actual downloads are very fast I am happy with that but its the browsing nternet that is really getting frustrating.
I phoned BT and they checked all the settings of the router and checked the line etc and reported no problems but my problems still persist.
MY laptop has 6gb ram and a dual processor, there has never been any problems before in fact its the same laptop when I had standard broadband which ran fine. I use Google chrome too for browsing and run regular virus scans with BT net prtector (or whatever its called)
Anybody have any idea why this may be, as at present I think I am going to cancel my contract in light of the price increase all beacause of this and go else where?

  • [SOLVED] Download speed is slow while playing certain Steam games

This is a weird one: When playing Steam games my download speed (everywhere) drops to a fraction of what it should be (roughly 1/10th). My upload speed is unaffected.
I don't know how long this has been the case but I think it's fairly recent since when playing games I often tab out and do stuff on the net. I would've noticed.
This doesn't happen with Portal 2, Civ V, Guacamelee or Xcom but does happen with Rochard, Steamworks Dig, Gateways (2d puzzle platformer) and Awesomenauts. I was looking for a pattern but I fail to see one.
To be clear about the problem: If I start one of those games and tab out my download speed is 1/10th what it should be. If I exit the game my download speed returns to normal instantly.
I've checked for obvious stuff like Steam downloading in the background (it's not and nor is anything else - no unusual network activity at all). I've checked for mere coincidence - signal dropping/interference and so on and that seems not to be it either. It's also far too consistent and, as I say, upload is unaffected for some reason.
I don't even know what info to give with this one or how to begin tracking it down so any advice will be received gratefully.
I'm running Arch 64bit, all up to date.

Ok, well, I *think* I've sort of solved it:
I went through various wifi channels and found that the degree to which my download speed was reduced varied depending on the wifi channel I was on. So I left a game running and watched the download speed and the speed of my CPU and GPU as they clocked up/down and it seems that one of them is managing to interfere with the wifi signal. Or at least that's my best guess. High wifi channel numbers seem to be affected least (significantly so) so ... yeah.
I don't know if this makes sense technically (and no idea how I've never encountered it before) but... that's my guess.

  • WRT310N Playstation 3 Slow Download speed and general lag

Hey guys, I just recently bought the WRT310N and got both of my computers working with it. One is wired directly into the router, while the other is running off wireless. My Playstation 3 is able to connect to the router but I am getting an extremely slow connection speed.
Right now, both PC's get about 6.4-6.5 Mbps download speed while my Playstation is anywhere from 600 Kbs to 1.2 Mbps. I have plugged in my Playstation 3 directly into the modem and got a speed of 3.2 Mbps and was downloaded a demo very fast, but I do not recieve anywhere near those results when using it wireless.
Any advice? I have tried opening the ports, but that only seemed to slow it down. A couple of days ago I opened the ports specific to the game NHL 10 and for two days I was getting such a good speed in the game that it felt like I was playing offline, which was great! Then this morning, it just seemed do a complete 180. Now when I play the game I get an extreme amount of lag, and my other games like CoD4 get random lag spikes. Like, I'll be running and I get a lag spike which seems to happen fairly consistently every minute or so.
Any advice? Should I try opening the ports again or what?

I think you need to adjust the wireless settings of your Router, The wireless settings on your Router must have been setup to its default that's the reason you are receiving low signal strength on your PS3.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Very slow download speed with Airport Express

    Hi.
I've recently experienced painfully slow downlink (download) speed using Airport Express.
    My WiFi configuration:
    - main router: WRT54G connected to my provider (speed limit: 4Mbit up/down link),
    - AirPort Express with WiFi N and Airtunes hooked up to stereo in living room,
    - AirPort Express WiFi G and Airtunes connected to stereo on bedroom.
Second Airport is currently not used to simplify tests and description of my problem.
The problem: when connecting from MacBook to Airport Express I can't reach more than approx. 512kbit downloading from internet, usually even 300kbit, while uplink reaches easily 2.5Mbit (limited probably by my network provider). While connected to WRT54G I can get 2.5 up to 4Mbit downlink, same when using cable directly plugged in to WRT54G.
I tried changing channels, switching different options in Airport with no effect - still getting pathetic download speeds. Even worse - browsing experience is awful, with frequent slowdowns, etc.
I tried different encryption methods, and seems like only switching it off at all (unprotected network) seems to let my Airport work on full speed (2.5Mbits symmetrically up/down, up to 4Mbits - provider speed limit) - which is unacceptable, I refuse to set up and use unprotected network at home.
Problem is clearly in Airport or in interaction between Airport and Macbook. I've just ran out of ideas - can you help me?

I can't offer any help with your problem except for the fact that mine has recently done the exact same thing. It's ridiculous, for months and months it was extremely fast and then all of a sudden it takes 20 minutes to open a simple browser page. Something is definitely wrong with the airport because all other wireless internet connections from other routers are as usual. \

  • More Than One Computer Trying to Access Web = Very Slow Download Speeds?

We have Verizon DSL with a basic Westell modem, which supposedly is only a modem with no router capabilities. We have an Airport Extreme Snow Base Station that acts as a WDS Main, with one other AEB Snow as a WDS Remote. All computers have unique ip addresses in the 10.0.1.X range as provided by the WDS Main's DHCP.
When only one computer connects to the internet to download web pages, software updates, etc., there seems to be no problem at all. When I do a speed check I get results that seem to be in the correct range, and it doesn't matter which computer I use for the test.
However, if we try to access the internet with more than one computer at the same time, everything slows to a crawl. Such as, if one computer is downloading software updates, the other CPUs have super slow web page downloads, slow to the point of connection time-outs at times. Or if two of the computers are simply trying to download web pages at the same time, one or the other has super slow downloads.
I feel like there is some kind of routing problem with the Base Station but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.
What could the problem be? Where could it originate, and what, if any, advice could someone give me to help trace the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

... the one computer I am looking at right now shows DNS servers as 10.0.1.1, which is the internal ip address of the AEB. Could this be part of the problem?
That is normal and shouldn't cause a problem. Essentially it tells the computer to ask the snow AirPort base station (ABS) for DNS information. The ABS will then provide the DNS information which it currently received from the ISP.
Would it help if I manually entered the DNS numbers that appear on the AEB on each machine's Network Preferences?
Probably not. A busy DNS server or faulty DNS info won't affect download speeds. That only affects browsing since that requires the computer to convert human readable addresses to numbers that the computer can use.
Remember that the snow ABS only operates at 802.11b (11 Mbps) speeds. Then when you use WDS it cuts your available wireless bandwidth in half.

  • Why is the download speed so slow?

I have 100MB internet, and I am able to receive that speed with other applications. (I literally just tested with steam and got 9.1MB/s, at the same time as the Adobe download is running)
My Adobe download is 35 KB/sec or less, seriously guys? I don't intend to leave my PC downloading for 2 days just to get software!
I have tried both with the download manager (The download errored at 78% after I had left it running for about 6 hours) and now the browser (I've managed to get 1.6GB of the 5.8GB in 6 hours, currently running at 36.8KB/sec)
In the same time period I have downloaded the entire of GTA IV (15.6GB) and managed to play it for 5 hours!
Any idea what is causing it to be this slow or is the download service really this bad?

I'm using gigabit wired internet, with an appropriate network card and router, my firewall is completely disabled (both on my router and my pc) and I don't see why anti-virus should interfere with the download,
What is the general download speed normally received? Would you recommend using the browser download or the download manager?
I'm happy if this is just a "slow day" for adobe server or something, but my internet seems to be 100% fine as several other downloads I have tried have managed to get full speed even while the Adobe download is left running. (I obviously have had these other downloads off the majority of the time the adobe download has been running)
    Cheers for the response,
    Rob
