Slow cd import

I am having loads of problems and I can't seem to resolve them.  I'm not very tech minded so I would love some straight forward help.  My system is Windows Vista and I am using version 10.5.1.42
I have two issues
1. Importing CD is so slow - at least an hour for one track
2. Can not connect to the itunes store.
I have backed up my library and uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it.
I have unchecked Auto retrieve CD titles and art work.
Please help me.

Earlier threads said that switching views e.g. to iTunes store, would increase the import speed and the below thread said that the problem appeared to be fixed in 7.0.1:

It would be useful to know if you have increased speed if you switch views!

  • Lightroom 5 is quite slow in importing photos

Lightroom 5 is quite slow in importing photos from a memory card connected to a reader using USB 3.0! After installing LR5, I didn't change any default settings. Interestingly, this wasn't found in beta testing. LR4 was what I call quick or snappy. Because of LR5's slow performance, I went back to LR4 after paying for the Cloud subscription.
With substantial difficulty and after some time passed, I eventually was able to speak to Support which offered no fix for this issue. I hope that it can be resolved soon.

Selecting the Import from below in Files does help speed up the start of the Import as mentioned in the thread you referred to but is still maybe three or so times slower than in LR4. At least it makes using LR5 more bearable.
    Thanks.

  • Slow cd import with imac 24 vs dual G5

my new imac 24 is much slower at importing cd's (converting to mp3 at 192) than my G5... something like 7-8x with the imac vs 18-20x with the G5... ???
is this typical for your results or do I have a bum setting???

    bump... anyone?
the same cd with the same import settings: (ripped with iTunes to MP3 at 192)
    iBook 1.07 G4 5-10x
    power mac dual 1.8 G5 18-22x
    iMac 2.16 24" 7-10x
I really expected more out of the new intel core 2 here... little better than my iBook G4, and the power mac dual G5 is twice as fast...

  • My iPhone 4s is super slow to import photos into iPhoto???

As said in the title my iphone is extremely slow to import photos to iphoto and keeps importing the same photos even though they are already in iPhoto??? Whats going on?? Anyone know a fix to this??

I would expect nothing less. even importing videos from my standards camera takes a while...thats not the issue here.
importing 50 Photos can take 10 minutes with the iPhone. Meanwhile the same number of photos from a standard camera would take less than a minute.
Its either a problem with the iphone and slow transfer through the dock connector, or somethings up with how iPhoto imports from the iPhone.

  • Aperture 3 slow to import

Why is Aperture 3 so slow to import! It can take five minutes to recognise just a few images on the Desktop and the fan whirls. This must be a bug!

Has anyone successfully migrated back to Aperture 2? Or would be going to Lightroom 2 be easier. I have by this point wasted too much of my life on Aperture 3. I have been using Aperture 3 on both Leopard then Snow Leopard on a very high-end Mac configuration (over 10 TB disk, for example) and I've seen it take 30 minutes to import 3 images from an iPhone. And that's not unusual – over the past few weeks I've grown to expect that. Also, is it just me or is Faces terrible at differentiating faces? It's great at figuring out what a face is, but it makes ridiculous guesses about whose face it is. It doesn't seem to work nearly as well as iPhoto when it first got face recognition technology. I think Apple needed to publicly beta-test AP3 like Adobe has done with each LR release. AP3 is completely pathetic and disappointing. Any professional user would be out of business by now.

  • ITunes Upgrade resulting in slow CD import

Last weekend I updated ITunes on my PC. After the update I am now experiencing painfully slow CD imports into ITunes.  A normal 15 track CD would take under 5 minutes in the previous ITunes version but now takes about 6 minutes per song.  The external driver firmware is up to date, I have the latest of everything Windows related on the laptop. Can I get an earlier version of ITunes - very frustrating.

No scrached disks (some of them brand new), and I tried about eight or nine and all were equally slow.
Regarding read speed: The internal DVD-drive (Pioneer 106D) on my four-year old Dual G5 has a read speed of 32X for audio disks, but are those 8X enough to explain the more than 50% better rip speed?
The G5's got faster disks, though, so maybe that is an issue?

  • Slow CD Import and Quicktime

I'm just going to throw this out there. Has anyone noticed that this slow CD import problem with iTunes 7.0.1 (I had this problem appear with the last update to iTunes 6) and Quicktime 7.0 or 7.1.3 seem to be tied together? When this problem first appeared, even back on iTunes 6, that the Quicktime Application would lock up and not play a song directly from a CD. I would have to do a "force quit" in order to get the computer to function again. The CD was one that I have imported music before, so I know the CD did work. My other music/video applications work fine. Toast Titanium, Toast Lite, Max, DVD Player, DVD Studio Pro, all work as they should so it is not the CD/DVD drive. I have no idea if Quicktime is any way integrated into iTunes, but there does seem to be a correlation with this problem. At least on my system. I am finding that it is quicker to import CD's on my iMac running OS 9.2 and iTunes then transfer the CD tunes via my home network. Reinstalling iTunes 6 or 7 does not make a difference. Just food for thought.

  • Fix? iTunes slow to import CD, sync iPod, freezes on credits - Page Faults

    All,
Using Windows XP on a computer with 512 M of memory (lightning fast for it's time) I found that iTunes would import CDs at 0.3x to 0.7x, way too slow. iTunes resonded slugglishly to UI commands. And the credits screen (help - about iTunes) would freeze. Other applications do not have this problem. I found that iTunes memory management is sub optimal, at best. This causes iTunes to swap portions of its active program memory to the hard disk, slowing the interface by a factor of x1000.
How to verify if this is happening:
    1. Open task manager by RIGHT clicking on the date on the windows control bar
    2. Click on the "Process" tab, then from the menu select "View" then "Select columns . . "
    3. Make sure "CPU", ("handles" (i.e. open files), "threads" (i.e. parallel processes), and "page faults" are checked. Page faults are swap of memory to the hard disk.
    4. Open iTunes, use as usual (e.g. view credits)
    5. If iTunes becomes slow (right away in my case), watch for increasing page faults (what I experience) or excessive threads or handles.
In my case I'm getting over 1000 page hits a second when viewing credits. Someone didn't use good programming skills. (Not necessarily Apple, see below)
Note: I see, and expect, the CPU to go to 100% while importing CDs.
Please note: ** I do not use a mail client on this machine. ** I use a web based mail program and do not use MS outlook, and I don't want to. I only mention this because when I used iTunes, it locked up and I also received an error saying that I needed to setup my outlook client. Turning off automatic updates seems to have solved this lockup.
Since I run Word, excel, iExlorer, games, and windows media manager without error I'm having trouble understanding why iTunes uses so much system resources. Poor development tools? Virtual machine? Bug in complier library?
    Thigs to try to fix:
Since this is a memory issue: Try one or more of the following:
Minimize the screen when importing CD (screen calls are a hog)
This is what made the most improvement for me.
    Stop all other programs
This allowed me to stop the credits screen.
Try stopping / halting your antivirus programs
Try updating your Video card driver.
Note: I have a 'business' style video card. Aboslutly no bells/whistles. I do not wish to upgrade to a directX card just to allow easy transfers to my iPod / iTouch. I am using an Intel 82810E Graphics Controller with drivers provided by Wicrosoft.
Set your performance for best performance:
+ Right click on the "My Computer" icon
+ Click on "advanced" - "Performance" - Visual
+ Click on "adjust for best performace"
Note: This changes the XP look, had no effect for me.
If you are still having trouble, close iTunes, open the Windows Media player to import your CD with the following settings: Tools - Options
Player - Deselect start player in media guide (unless you really like it)
Copy Music - Deselect Copy Protect Music (otherwise it only works in WMP)
    Root cause?
I suspect that the iTunes is calling a function that it expects the video card to do easily. I suspect that the video card doesn't have that functionality, so the video card driver tries to emulate the functionality. The slow response from the driver apparently causes iTunes to go haywire.
    If you read this far:
Please let me know if you found this helpful by writing a response.
If you can think of anything (other than buying a new computer) that would allow this applicaiton to work, let me know. BTW: A real old version of quicktime works just fine on my 486!
    Apple developers:
I would be open for a test bed if you need older HW to qualify on.
Any idea why the credits would cause the page faults?
Any way to use a bare bones video library (e.g. no scrolled fades etc.)?
For an application that essentially copies files to my iPod, it sure uses a lot of resources.

    Welcome to AD!
This is a user chat board - Apple developers won't be seeing your post. You could re-send it using
itunes menu > Help > Provide iTunes Feedback
    Hoewever, don't expect a reply.
the iTunes 8.1 system requirements page states
    +A DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM; 64MB recommended+
It's not that surprising that itunes doesn't act right on your PC.

  • IPhone 6 240fps slow-motion import

    Hey everyone,
I understand when I import the clip into Final Cut Pro I choose 30fps, and then click on the clip and set it to automatic speed. Then I will get my 240fps slow-motion.
    2 issues though.
I would like to have the same effect as Quicktime Player opens the file for me. Starts in normal speed and then transfers to the slow-motion. I could probably build this with speed ramp, but is there an easier way to just have it like that already?
Second issue, when I set it to automatic speed, I do not get the sound from it. In final cut pro x it sounds really weird then, just very high sounds (rain), but in Quicktime Player and on my iPhone I really hear the deep sound when the raindrop hits the ground. Any idea how to transfer that sound or how to get it?
Probably needs an upcoming update FCPX?
Edit: Now when I would like to export in QTP to YouTube I do not get the slow-motion either, it's just like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkk1DfTcgn0

There is a misconception about the "slow motion videos" in iPhone.
In fact, they *really* are videos recorded with a high frame rate (up to 240fps in iPhone 6).
They are *not* in slow motion per se - even though the iPhone software may play them as such.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say that there is no such thing as slow motion videos. There are videos played in slow motion.
What happens when, say, you drop your 240fps video in a 24fps timeline, is that it plays at normal speed. This is as it should be!
The big deal is that, since your clip has all those extra frames in it, you can use FCP X to slow it down (up to 1/10 the original speed in my example) and it will use all the real frames the camera captured. Plus, you can use all the retiming features in FCP X to obtain perfectly smooth slow motion.
By means of comparison, if you slow down a video recorded at the same frame rate as the project it is in, FCP X has to make up extra frames that did not exist. Even though FCP X has some great algorithms for this (like "Optical Flow"), it can't match real captured frames.

  • Slowness in import process

    Hi Experts,
    Follwing is my DB version.
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.3.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
    CORE 10.1.0.3.0 Production
TNS for Linux: Version 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
During an import process the database got really slow and to complete the import fully it took more than 5 hrs. normally it takes only 2 -3 hrs.
When I investigated I found a blocking lock for archive process and also the top consumer was DBSNMP at the same time.
Is this DBSNMP and archive process lock responsible for making the DB slow ??? if yes, reason for that ... and how to resolve it ??

what I meant by "when Investigated" is that in the Enterprise manager, Database locks link showed blocking locks related to CKPT and LGWR users.
Also when I checked the top consumers link it showed me DBSNMP as the top consumer.
what I want to know is whether these indicators were related to each other and whether it had an impact on the importing process and the slowness of the DB.
"If you are generating archive logs faster than the ARCHn process can archive them, it is certainly possible that the database would have to pause while the archiver finishes its work"
is it possible for the above to happen while doing an import. ??? if yes how to resolve it ?

  • Slow CD-import in iTunes - why?

I've been importing some CDs on my MacBook today (2Ghz, Core 2 Duo), and I'm quite surprised to find that it is considerably slower than on my four-year(!) old Dual G5.
When the import begins (using the Apple Lossless-codec) the speed is as slow as 4-5X, and toward's the end it's around 11-12X.
However, my G5 is flying away at 20X (at least) when it reaches the end of the disk.
Anyone know why the gap is so big? Has so little happened in four years?
    I have the Superdrive called MATSHITA UJ-857D, and a 5400RPM 120GB harddisk.

  • Extremely slow message import after having deleted Envelope Index

    Hi,
I had some problems with garbled email messages et cetera, so I deleted the "Envelope Index"-file from ~/Library/Mail (as described on many sites).
I reopened mail, and, like expected, it asked me to import my Messages.
When I do this, at first everything goes fine, but at message 1451 it hangs, (I have about 10000 messages in total) and the "Remaining time" keeps going up.
I waited for about an hour, and Mail was still hanging on this one message.
Any ideas how to fix this?

This is my first time at forum, guys, so hopefully my story will help.
I have LR 5.3 , Canon 5D M2, Sundisk 16gb card and 2009 MacBook. LR4.4 was fast to import pictures, but 5.3 turned to be as slow as some of you had described. What happened next is a just unexpected coincidence. Usually I plug card reader into mac and open LR. This time as soon as I plugged CF card into mac computer would shut down (and not for the first time). I tried on Windows machine - same result. So I thought I lost all pictures for good. Then I reinserted card into the camera and plugged it into the mac. Canon transfer utility oped up and all pictures (89 total) were saved in less then a minute (.CR2).
At LR5 I indicated folder where pictures were saved and reimported them into LR as DNG files. Surpassingly transfer and conversion took about a minute, that is as fast as it use to be using LR4.
That's all. I wished it could be better help, but I thought this "accident" may help someone to pinpoint problem with slow transfer into LR5 from card reader.
p.s. forgot to mention that during import into LR5 some developers setting were applied, which, as I understand, will slows import.

  • Incredibly SLOW picture import!!!

    Hi Everyone!
I'm running a Macbook OSX 10.4.11. I recently bought a new camera (Panasonic lumix DMC-FS20) which i bought specifically because it's know to be compatible with Macs (and iphoto). But, the import speed for both iphoto and just transferring the pictures manually from the camera to a folder on my HD is just GLACIALLY slow... a batch of 150 pictures can take more than one hour, on top of that, the computer sometimes freezes and i have to do small batches at a time, which stops the freezing but not the slowness.
I have tried decreasing the image size to 7MB (it was at 10 before) but this didn't help. I know it isn't the memory card or the camera because I tried it on two different desktops using windows and the import speed is almost instant.
I have around 4,500 pictures in my iphoto library (not sure how many it is supposed to handle) and my 80G hard drive is down to only 10G of free space (i will be upgrading the memory to 160 soon). Could the low memory available really be slowing down the transfer???
Thank you so much for any help!!!!!

For sure max out your RAM and hard drive space to start, and never let drives exceed 70% full. Also always use a fast card reader copying to an external hard drive to move image files from the camera; avoid transfers direct from camera.
I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional strongly recommended recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.
    Good luck!

  • Iphone 6 slow motion import

I am unable to import my slow motion into FCPX from my iphone 6. What it imports is standard 30 or 60 fps video that plays at normal speeds.  I can't for the life of me figure out how to bring it in as a slow motion clip. I even imported it into iPhoto, where it plays as slow motion, then go look at it in the FCPX media browser for photos and it again plays at regular speed (not slow motion).
Can someone help me figure out how to import slow motion clips into FCPX from the iPhone 6?

  • Slow HD import from Camera

I have a 60 minute HD movie captured on a Sony HD Camcorder ( mini DV tape capture). In iMovie HD6, the import goes 1/4 the regular speed and it's like the movie is slowed down to 1/4 speed. Is this normal, as I am using a Powermac G5, plenty of ram ? This is the first time I am using HD on iMovie.

    Yes, it's normal.
HDV (as the format is called) is not editable, so the video need to be converted. The conversion into "Apple Intermediate Codec" takes some time, I guess a few hours on your Mac. After this conversion is finished, you will be able to play back the movie at normal speed.
