Slow cellular data network after iOS 7.1.1. update

After updating my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1.1 my LTE network feels slower then 2G. The phone is barrely not usable anymore when not having a WiFi connection. (Okay, I can do calls.)
I have done everything listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3780 and even more, the whole hard-, soft reset stuff, turning everything on and off. Now with a newly set-up phone, no backups installed, the behavior is still the same. My carrierer is telling me that there are no limits or whatsoever reached.
I'm running completely out of clues. Does anyone has the same problem and maybe have a fix for this?
Best,
Pete

It could be for a number of reasons. Depending on how old your battery is, you might want to think about getting a replacement (a battery usually lasts around 500 charge cycles so about two years, after that it doesn't hold a charge as well as it used to). Also be aware that using 3G drains the battery life like crazy. You should also try turning off background refresh for apps that are not absolutely essential. Also try a hard reset of the phone, by holding down the power button and home button for about ten seconds until you see the Apple logo. Other than what has already been suggested, there is not much else I can tell you. Good luck.

  • No 'Cellular Data Network' after iOS 5 Update

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm very close to throwing my iPhone at a wall...
I have recently updated to the OS5 however there's no option to edit any APN's in the Network section of my settings. I am unable to use data unless connected to WiFi because of this. I have tried reseting the network settings, going into and coming out of airplane mode and also restoring my iPhone through iTunes... nothing's working! I know the option is available as my friend has a iPhone 4 with OS5 and the option is visible in their menu.

Solved it, I had to manually create a profile for the iPhone with the APN settings in and then install it.

  • Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old.

Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old. It;s been working perfectly up until now.  I have no problem on my home WIFI, or through personal hotspot working through my iPhone 5.
I have worked with AT&T, replaced the SIM card with a new one, and done a backup/restore to factory settings, all with the same result that when I turn Cellular
Data on, with or without Enable LTE, it goes into "searching" mode, or reports "no service".  My iPhone 5 works perfectly on iOS 8.1.2, on Cellular.  I've browsed the blogs and have tried Apple's suggested fix, all to no result.
Oddly enough, every once in a while I do get connected to the network for a short ime (minutes), but it always returns to "searching".
I've filed a report with Apple, along with a request that they contact me, but no results yet.
    Help? (and thank you).

Hello razmee209.  Thank you for your response.  I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support.  They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total.  Same problem.  I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem.  I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too.  In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine:  WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem.  I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet.  I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions.

  • Apps disappeared from "Use Cellular Data For" after iOS 8.0.2

Normally, when you go to Settings->Cellular Data, you can see a list of all apps that use data, and you are able to turn cellular data on or off for each app individually.
I had been using this feature since iOS 7 without problem, until I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2.
Now, only "FaceTime" and "Passbook" appear under this list. All other apps, including Mail, Safari, etc. have disappeared.
What's worse, apps for which I had turned cellular data for---such as YouTube---cannot be turned back on, because they have disappeared from this list. Therefore, I am permanently unable to use YouTube without Wifi because of this bug. The same goes for every app for which I had turned off cellular data.
I tried restoring the iPhone (it's an iPhone 5), to no avail.
Does anyone else have this issue, or is it a weird bug with just my phone?

    Hi jah_mez69,
No, I did not solve this problem, and it persists in iOS 8.1.2.
Apple have a reluctance to take bugs affecting smaller groups of users seriously. With regard to this bug, their attitude is that we should just erase our phones and set them up from scratch. This is something I refuse to do.
I did open a new bug about this in the bug tracker (bug #18732898). It hasn't been closed yet, which means at the very least, they have not decided to totally ignore this bug forever. However, don't get your hopes up for a fix.
I have learned to live with it, but it has pushed me closer to choosing Android for my next phone. I am fairly confident that iOS software bugs are far less important to Apple than developing smart watches and payment systems and getting the next "hot" feature out the door.

  • Why do i have to restart my iphone 4 to connect to cellular data network after moving out of wifi range?

Whenever I move out of a wifi zone, I expect my iphone to connect to cellular data automatically. But this doesn't happen. I have tried turning flight mode on/off and also tried turning cellular data on / off couple of times, but nothing works.
I only get the cellular data connection back after I restart my iphone.
I started having this problem after upgrading to iOS7.
Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi beingkejo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Toggling Airplane mode and cellular data are good troubleshooting steps. If your iPhone still does not connect to cellular data automatically when Wi-Fi disconnects, I recommend the additional steps in this article:

  • Cellular Data Connection after reboot

I have an Nokia ICON and i've noticed that the phone can take over an hour to login to the cellular data network after a reboot. I can make calls and get texts but I cannot do any data functions for a REALLY long time. I never had this problem when I was on an iPhone on Verizon so I know it's not the carrier (or is it?). Anyone else experiencing really long times to connect to the data network?
    -Patrick

I will assume that your iPhone was older than the ICON because I would further assume you updated to an ICON from an iPhone, therefore the iPhone was possibly 3G which is not LTE capable. So it is likely that there are LTE issues in your area. Have you called *611 yet to let the tech representative know of your issue? I know things can be frustrating but it is best not to be quick to assume there is a problem with your phone and say that: "I didn't have a problem with my iPhone". The reason I bring that up is because there are already too many people out there that think their platform is the best and at the first sign of issues of another platform just reinforces why their platform is the best. This may not be how you feel, but it best not to even bring your other phone up, because it just adds to issue that keeps people buying iPhones for untrue reasons. People that do this have what is coined: Cognitive Dissonance Denial. I am not saying Windows phone is the best, I actually like Android's OS, but I like the Windows Phone OS's sleekness. But I do believe people need to be a whole lot less harsh on the Windows platform.

  • HT4623 Hi. After I updated ios6, I couldn't use my cellular network. It said "could not activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service". I don't know why. My iphone is 4s

Hi. After I updated ios6, I couldn't use my cellular network. It said "could not activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service". I don't know why. My iphone is 4s

Contact your carrier to ensure data access via their network is provisioned properly for your account and iPhone with the new iOS 6 update installed.

  • IOS 4.3 could not activate cellular data network

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3 and now I cannot connect to the cell network.
I have never done a jailbreak on my phone. I'm on Rogers and my blackberry is working fine so it's not a network outage.
I have done the following to try and fix this:
    1. Toggle airplane mode
    2. Soft reset
    3. hard reset
    4. reset network settings
This started happening as soon as it was done rebooting after updating to 4.3. What else can I do here? The only option I see now is to do a full wipe but if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

    Hi
    Try this then:
"If you're a Pay Monthly customer but don't have the iPhone Bolt On, or a specific iPhone tariff, then you won't be able to get the full iPhone experience.
Here's what you'll need to do:
From the main screen of your iPhone tap Settings > General > Network
    Under Cellular Data Network
For Pay & Go customers. Tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk and enter payandgo.o2.co.uk (Please note that "o2" needs to be written with a letter "o" and not a zero)
For Pay Monthly customers. Tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk and enter mobile.o2.co.uk (Please note that "o2" needs to be written with a letter "o" and not a zero)
You don't need to change your username and password
Ignore the Visual Voicemail APN box - it's not available to Pay & Go customers or Pay Monthly customers (with a non iPhone tariff)
    Under MMS
For Pay & Go customers. Tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk and enter payandgo.o2.co.uk (Please note that o2 needs to be written with a letter o and not a zero)
For Pay Monthly customers. Tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk and enter wap.o2.co.uk (Please note that o2 needs to be written with a letter o and not a zero)
You don't need to change your username and password
Turn your iPhone off and on again
If you're a Pay & Go iPhone customer, using your iPhone sim for the first time, you'll need to top up by at least £10.
For a step-by-step walk-through on how to change your settings, have a look at our interactive guide."
So that's the text from the link I posted.
I'm sure there's an analogous process for other networks. Perhaps it doesn't affect US iPhones as there was only one network to cater for up until recently..

  • Can i update ios 8.0 via cellular data network?

Can i update ios 8.0 via cellular data network?

No, it uses too much cellular data. Also if your phone is running fine on IOS 7.1.2 I'd hold off upgrading until a few more  of the bugs have been worked out of IOS 8.

  • Could not activate cellular data network att 3g after upgrading form 5.1.1 to 6.1

Hello im deployed in Afghanistan.  I brought over my 64gb ipadw att over here.  I got a new sim for it day one.  It's work flawlessly for 2 months.  Last night I upgraded from 5.1.1. to 6.1 and when it woke back up BOOM! I have all the bars along w/ the "E" Edge network icon but no internet.  Says could not activate cellular data network.  When I put my att sim card in my ipad works perfectly fine racking up ridiculous out of the country roaming fees.  Why did my hodgi sim card stop working?

    I am having similar problems.
My network settings are correct and I can communicate both over 3G and WiFi.
However, every few minutes the connection is being dropped. A few seconds later it's back again. I can see this in an application I am developing. It's rather frustrating...
In the console I see this message prior to the connection being lost and rebuilt:
    "Mon Sep 20 09:44:58 PeterVs-iPhone-3GS configd[23] <Notice>: network configuration changed."
I have not changed anything to the configuration. What's even more strange is that I ONLY have 3G at this moment, i.e. WiFi is disabled.
What is changing the network configuration? And why does it mean that the current network connection needs to be torn down and rebuilt? After the network is back, there is no difference than before. So it gets torn down and rebuilt for no apparent reason.
I have logged a bug with Apple over a week ago, but haven't had any reply from them yet. I need more information about what is happening, and how I can prevent it. I'm not very happy having to grope in the dark, having to make guesses because somebody decided that he knows what's best for me.
This is happening on multiple iPhones with multiple different OS-es. So I am guessing it is related to my carrier (Vodafone). But I can't verify it because I'm not getting the tools from Apple.

  • "Could not activate cellular data network" message  on iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.1)

May this year I purchased a brand new iPhone 3GS 16GB from Vodafone on a 24mnth plan with 2gb of data monthly for mobile and tether use. The 3G and normal gsm data alwyas worked in areas where it was avalible until 3 months ago. In safari i would get a message stating that "Could not activate cellular data network" and in all apps no internet serivces worked unless wifi was activated.
I put my sim in my n95 and my 5800 and internet worked on both. I got my number put onto a new sim card. I restored iPhone. I updated iPhone to 4.1 and reset all network settings.
Nothing worked and apple came to the conclusion that it was a faulty handset and replaced it on saturday. Today when I woke up, the same message appeared!!!!
    Please anyone help
