Slow comm. to new Fiery rip from G5
We have two G5 double 1.8GHz ppc processor macs, running system 10.4.11 and Adobe CS3-package.
When printing from these computers to our EFI Fiery rips, v. pro80 s450, the communication is unbearably slow.
Unfortunately, like with all printers when printing from Acrobat, one must first enter "Page Setup" Diaolog--which uses appr. 20-30 seconds--to enter correct page size and printer.
That done, one must enter the print dialog, which would use another 20-30 seconds to choose the right printer, and maybe the same to get access to the printers’ settings.
The slow speed seems to be just as slow when using appletalk, smb or ip-printing.
It seems to be be partly an issue about the level of the Fiery Rip, since the older rips we have used aren’t that slow. But I guess this might also be something about ppc vs intel? Is there anything we can do?
Hi hallbi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm no expert, don't have the Fiery rip, and can't find out much about it either.
How exactly are the Macs connected to it?
Unfortunately, like with all printers when printing from Acrobat, one must first enter "Page Setup" Diaolog--which uses appr. 20-30 seconds--to enter correct page size and printer.
Is this step really necessary? Can't you go directly to Print & choose a Preset?
But I guess this might also be something about ppc vs intel?
I'm thinking not, at this point anyway. I'm thinking it's our connection, but what size are these PDFs?
Might be interesting to open Activity Monitor and try to observe by the use of the different tabs at the bottom to catch a bit of where the slowest part is.
Is there anything we can do?
I bet there is, even if it only happens by attracting a real expert to your topic!

How do I transfer the music I ripped from cds I own to a new PC with iTunes?
Greetings y'all.
Some one I work with uses iTunes, and he wants to transfer all of his music from his old computer to his new computer. I went to the apple website trying to find answers. They have some pretty decent tutorials on how to transfer your music from one PC to another PC.
However, here's the curve ball, my co-worker has much music that they ripped from CDs. Whenever I tried some of the methods detailed on those tutorials they would simply not transfer the ripped music, all of which he legitimately purchased.
One of the methods details simply going to the folder that iTunes stores the music and copying it to an external then copy pasting it on to the other computer. When I tried this it not only did not copy the ripped music, it deleted it off of the external. Only the music which he purchased on the Apple iTunes store transferred over successfully.
He still has his old computer and won't get rid of it until we know for certain that his music is safely on his new computer.
Do you guys have any thoughts on this dilemma? Would home sharing work better on this?
The iTunes version on both his computers is the same. He is running Windows 7 on his new machine, and Windows XP on his old machine.I don't know Windows, so all I can suggest is how one moves the iTunes folder to another machine via an external drive. Now, if he added tracks but did not have them stored into the iTunes library then they are stored elsewhere on the old computer or he's just going to have to re-rip them from the CD. BTW, if he rips them using iTunes, then they should not require any conversion. iTunes rips as MP3s. They shouldn't require any conversion.

To my non-arrival notification oo update.
Updated with the new version downloaded from Appstore.
The previous version worked fine.
I have not time to open the library - the program closes. For 1-2 seconds I see the old look of your library.

My iPad 2 had no problems loading e-mails until about a month ago. Then it started periodically being unable to load new e-mails from one of my two Yahoo accounts (the primary one), but the secondary Yahoo account worked fine. (It says "Checking for mail..." and never stops checking). This only happens when I'm at home, using my home WiFi (a slow connection.) Now, for the past two weeks, about 95% of the time, neither of my Yahoo accounts works on the iPad, although I have no problem accessing these accounts on my iPod Touches or on my desktop Mac mini. If I take the iPad to my neighbor's house and use her WiFi, I can get the Yahoo mail. (She has cable/internet through Comcast; I have DSL.) I can access the Yahoo mail in public WiFi environments like Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and the Apple store. I upgraded the operating system to ios 6.0.1, and the problem didn't go away. I've been to two Apple stores and seen two different "Geniuses" about this. The first one observed that although the iPad could load mail while in the store, it was doing so very, very slowly. She did a complete restore (erasing all of my apps, photos, etc.) but when I got back home, the problem resumed. The second Genius couldn't figure the problem out, either. He suggested I contact Yahoo, which I highly doubt will get me anywhere. I eventually added back all of my old apps, but then deleted them again in the past few days thinking that perhaps a persnickety app was causing a problem. No luck.
Answering my own question here. It's fixed! Another user recommended I switch to another wireless network then back to mine. And it worked! Mail is sending again with no problem.

VI running very slow in a new PC
Hello,
I recently changed my development PC, and one of my VIs is running much slower in my new PC. This is strange since the new PC is a bit better. In this PC I have an Intel i5 4210M 2.5GHz CPU, 8Gb of RAM and a disk with 7200RPM and 16MB of cache. The PC I was using before had an older intel i5 3210M CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 5400RPM disk.
In the current project I'm working I'm monitoring some production lines. I'm using Labview 2013 and the DSC module's OPC server to connect to the PLCs on the production line.
In the VI that is slower in the new PC I'm reading about 50 shared variables from the OPC server, I'm registering some data in a MySQL database, datalogging data on the Citadel database and registering alarms. On my older PC each iteration on this VI was taking about 1 second and now is taking more than 10 seconds.
I've noticed that when I run that VI the disk usage gets very high (constantly over 90%), but it's strange if the disk is causing this problem since it is better than the one I had on the older PC. The CPU usage is low (arround 5%) and the memory usage stays arround 30-35%.
Does anyone have any idea what could be happening? I'm getting very frustrated with this problem since the PC is brand new and I wasn't expecting to have a problem like this. With windows 7 I was having the same problem. I installed windows 8.1 because since I was having some problems with drivers compatibility on windows 7 and I tought that maybe this problem in the execution speed could also be caused by that. But on windows 8.1 there was only a slight improvement - it took close to 20 seconds to execute now it takes 15 seconds, but still not the performance I was having on the previous PC (arround 1 second).
Today I brought both PCs and I'm trying to understand what's different. I've noticed on the windows resource monitor that the write speed on my new PC's disk are lot slower when the VI is running. The disk load goes up to 100% but the write speed seems to be limited to 1MB/s. As for the older PC the disk load stays lower (arround 30-40%) and the write speeds goes up to 5MB/s. I've also ran perfmon but I didn't noticed major differences between when I was running that VI and when I wasn't. I've attached some screenshots from the resource monitor of both PCs. The screenshot that is in portuguese is from the older PC but the fields are in the same positions as in the english version.
So I'm thinking that this must be some problem on my disk confgurations something must be limiting my disk speed to 1MB/s. But when I transfer files on the PC it doesn't seem to have that problem. I only noticed it on that VI...

File name not showing up at RIP from Intel Pro
I have both G4 and newer Pro G5 running CS3. If I send an ID file to the RIP from my G4 the file name will appear correctly in the Queue window. If I send an ID file from my newer Pro Intel it shows the printer name (ie 1800) but not the file name. This makes it hard to identify different jobs at the RIP. I've looked at my Print & Fax System preferences and they seem to be the same. Any ideas? Thanks, Roger
10.4.11 and ID 5.0.2
I just upgraded my G4 to CS3 from CS2 where I had no problem. The G4 has no problem even with CS3. I thought it was probably a CS3 issue until I upgraded, not an Intel issue. I may be wrong. -
Why is music ripped from CD's missing from my library?
I have seen this in other forum posts and I hear this from many of my friends: tracks ripped from CD's eventually go missing. Entire albums and entire artists. This is not unusual to me nor is it unique.
Granted, I hear tons of complaints about how bad iTunes is at managing a library to begin with (Why can't I sort by missing tracks?, and what on earth is "Display Duplicates" for other than to prove my point?).
How do I get iTunes to stop deleting imported music from CD's? Afterall, I OWN the music. Does Apple think I don't?
Very disappointed in this product overall. Is your post simply a series of trick questions?
devedsmith wrote:

Er... because they're missing.
devedsmith wrote:

To help you find any song that you have duplicated in your Library because it is on on two different albums.
devedsmith wrote:

I don't suppose it might be that some people simply don't know how to use a computer and or they try to use iTunes in exactly the same way as other music players instead of learning how to use a programme that's new to them?
It's rhetorical question - I already know the answer. If you tried to use two different photo editing programmes, music editing programmes or even two word processor programmes, you would find differences between the two, every time. One needs to learn how to use a new programme, not simply try to do it the way it was done in the other programme.
Now, down to your problem.
Why would iTunes delete your music, do you think Apple simply want to annoy you? There are reasons why music goes missing from iTunes. It might help to list them. That way, we might be able to identify the cause of your issue.
Another programme has renamed, moved or deleted the song's file after you imported it into your iTunes Library.
You have renamed, moved or deleted the file in question, outside of iTunes, since you imported it.
I don't think there is a number 3. I stand corrected, by tt2. (That's fine by me!)
The first thing to do is check to see if the file is still on your computer. Pick one missing song, preferably on a single-artist album, not a compilation.
For example, Ride Across The River by Dire Straits, from the album Brothers In Arms.
If you have a look in your music folder (the filepath may be slightly different to mine, depending on your current and previous versions of Windows), you should find a folder for "Dire Straits". In that folder will be a folder for the album "Brothers In Arms". In that folder are the songs, by title, possibly with a track number preceding the title. Since that song is in my Library, here's screenshot of the entry in iTunes, from the Summary tab:
and you can see the artist name\album name\song number song title.
So can you find your missing song, the album or even the folder, either for the one I suggested you pick, or for any of your other missing songs?
Compilation albums are listed under "..\iTunes Music\Compilations\Album title\song title.
Use the Windows Search facility to look for the songs. Think about whether you have moved part or all of your Library to an external drive, a popular pastime for some reason. Do you use Windows Media Player or any other music player/mangement programme that may have altered the songs?
You should have noticed that my tough guy approach at the start of my post has actually tried to help you.
Back to the tough guy now though.
Try helping yourself instead of assuming Apple is to blame for every single problem in your world! It isn't.

Why index creation is slower on the new server?
Hi there,
Here is a bit of background/env info:
Existing prod server (physical): Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
RAM: 96GB
CPUs: 8
RHEL 5.8 64bit
Database size around 2TB
New server:
VMWare VM with Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
RAM 128GB
vCPUs: 16
RHEL 5.8 64bit
Copy of prod DB (from above server) - all init param are the same
I noticed that Index creation is slower on this server. I ran following query:
SELECT name c1, cnt c2, DECODE (total, 0, 0, ROUND (cnt * 100 / total)) c3
FROM (SELECT name, VALUE cnt, (SUM (VALUE) OVER ()) total
FROM v$sysstat
WHERE name LIKE 'workarea exec%')
C1
C2
C3
workarea executions - optimal
100427285
100
workarea executions - onepass
2427
0
workarea executions - multipass
0
0
Following bitmap index takes around 40mins in prod server while it takes around 2Hrs on the VM.
CREATE BITMAP INDEX MY_IDX ON
MY_HIST(PROD_YN) TABLESPACE TS_IDX PCTFREE 10
STORAGE(INITIAL 12582912 NEXT 12582912 PCTINCREASE 0 ) NOLOGGING
This index is created during a batch-process and the dev team is complaining of slowness of the batch on new server. I have found this one statement responsible for some of the grief. There may be more and I am investigating.
I know that adding "parallel" option may speedup but I want find out why is it slow on the new server.
I tried creating a simple index on a large table and it took 2min in prod and 3.5min on this VM. So I guess index creation is slower on this VM in general. DMLs (select/insert/delete/update) seem to work with better elapsed time.
Any clues what might be causing this slowness in index creation?
Best regardsI have been told that the SAN in use by the VM has capacity of 10K IOPS. Not sure of this info helps. I don't know more than this about the storage.
What else do I need to find out? Please let me know - I'll check with my Sys Admin and update the thread.
Best regards -
How to fix very slow opening window. I have vista 64. Since the last foxfire update it is very slow to open new windows. It can take some windows opening over a minute to open. (yes minutes not seconds)
Once a window is open I can open in new tab with no problem, but not with new window. (I like to have many windows open at a time)
When l click to open a new window either from a link or new window, it seems that nothing is happening. Then clicking to open another one which seems to open faster. Then all of a sudden the first window decides to open after about a minute or so. Sometime it seems to hang longer than other times.I did try the safe mode and didn't work. I did make iexplorer my default and then back again to foxfire and it somewhat worked. It was work not bad (but not as good as before) until I rebooted and it seemed the more I used it the better it became. Go figure :)
Well I just did another firefox update to 4 and it works perfect and maybe even better than before. (or I got use to how slow it was :) )
Thank You for you quick reply and I'm very happy for the new update... So far so good. -
I just picked up a new iPhone 4 from the Apple store this morning, and now I'm at home setting it up by restoring from my old 3GS backup. It is painfully, horribly slow. It's currently installing my apps, and each app is taking 5+ minutes to install. I recall that installing them fresh takes like 30 seconds. It's been over an hour now, and the overall progress indicator in iTunes is only at about 30%. Is it just all the data associated with each app? Anyone else having this issue?
Okay, I just found a solution, but it's really odd. The slowness is caused by iTunes not having focus in Windows. If I put iTunes in the background, the sync slows to a crawl, but if I switch back give it focus again, the progress bar starts to move.
By doing this (switching back and forth or just letting iTunes keep focus), the sync is now orders of magnitude faster, and I'm almost done.
This is on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have bought several music from iTunes and now I cannot find them in my library. The same goes for music that I have ripped from my cds. What gives?! Why doesn't the music stay in the iTunes library like it does in Windows Media. There is music that I cannot get again and this is not acceptable.
Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. If you try connecting the iPod to a new iTunes library or PC, you won't be able to add any new content to it until you choose the Erase and Sync option that you are prompted with when you plug it in or restore the iPod if that option doesn't appear.
If you have content on your iPod that needs to be copied back over to your iPod, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to you can recover these contents and moved them back over to your iTunes library.

Hello,
I'm a new member and I'm actually trying to work with garage band to record voice and playback. Can "logic express" Vs. 8.0 slow down or change the key from playbacks like the program "Amazing slowdowner"? This is a programm wich costs 50 US Dollar and I want to decide if i buy it or not.
What is the hgreatest different between "garage band" and logic express 8.0? Who can hepl me, which is the right thing for me. I find it difficult to find out which effects are the best only to record my voice with playback.
Thanks for your advices. If you want to slow down the audio why not download a program from ABRSM called Speedshifter- its free and is very good. you could export the audio from Logic and open the MP3 file with speed shifter. I think speedshifter may also have the ability to alter the pitch as well. I use it for Flute practice- its very useful !

I use google chrome and firefox at the same time, logged on to different accounts in fb, google chrome functions smoothly, opening new windows or tabs or even just loading is quicker, firefox fills like it is working to hard, like pulling teeth, new tabs are slow to open, new windows are slower, just loading fb is slower, the whole experience is extremely choppy. Even when just using firefox alone, it is extremely choppy, not really sure how to explain it. It used to be the equivalent to goggle chrome and my browser of choice.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone. -

HI Team, Recently One week back I bought a new iphone 5 from India. They have given me a used mobile which has a different IMEI number when compared to the IMEI number present on the box. Please let me know how to proceed further
When you went back to the place where you purchased this phone, & asked them, what did they say?
No one here can help you with this, nor can/will Apple. You need to take this up with whoever you purchased this phone from.
