Slow Computer after OS X Yosemite Download
Ever since the installing of OS X Yosemite into my 13-inch, Early 2011 MacBook Pro (Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 / Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / Storage Capacity: 319.21 GB) performing basic operations (such as browsing the web, opening an application, typing something) make my computer slow down and freeze while the notorious colorful beach ball spins for about 30 seconds. It happens more than 50 times a day and it has not happened to me before the install.
When you get the beachball, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I am assuming that this is related to my slow computer after waking from sleep. Every click has delayed reaction up to spinning beach ball in length. Went to console log and see this same message repeating over and over and over. What does it mean? How do I fix it? Is it related to the slowdown?
ThanksOk... Sometimes Mail will abort the restart that I am trying to do to get the system back to normal speed so I was wondering about that "plug-in" which appears to be more than a plug in. It put a bundle in my Library/Mail folder that can't be deleted...
Here is my log now which starts showing errors as soon as I reboot... I am backing up now. It seems that there should be something that I could remove without a clean install, but I can't figure it out from this....Thanks for the insight...

Slow computer after logicboard replacement/ any way to retrieve 18 month old receipts
I purchased a Macbook Pro in August of 2008 and have been generally pleased with it. About a month ago it stopped turning on so I brought it in to the Apple store. They claimed that the video card was fried and that they would need to replace the entire logic board. The computer has been out of warranty for a little while now so I was seriously debating shelling out the $330 to replace the logic board. The genius guy assured me that it would run like new once it was replaced so I went ahead and did it. When I got it back, I soon noticed that everything was running slower. Over the last month, the computer has gotten so slow its almost unusable, so I started snooping into the computer a little bit. I noticed that I had 2 gb of memory. I think I originally installed 4 gb of memory but I cant be sure. I checked for the receipt but its nowhere to be found. Not too surprising considering how long its been sicne I originally bought the computer. I looked up the standard specs on everymac.com and found that 2 gb was the baseline. I am pretty sure Ive upgraded the memory on every computer I've ever gotten which further deepens my suspicion. Now, I dont know for sure if I actually had 4 gb of memory and I dont want to start ranting and raving at the apple store about how the evil repairmen stole 2 gb of memory from me if I am not sure. Does anyone know of a way to check what was originally in my computer? If it turns out im simply forgetful, does anyone have any ideas about the slow computer following logicboard replacement? A quick google search let me know that I am not the only one with this problem but didnt turn up much in the way of help. Thanks so much.

Macbook Air Mid-2013 slows down after upgrading to Yosemite
Dear support community,
After upgrading my computer to Yosemite, it started performing much slower than usual. Some of the interactions are sluggish, sometimes switching tabs on Chrome will stop the music for a few miliseconds, etc.
Here's my EtreCheck report in case you can spot the problem here. Thank you so much for your help!

EtreCheck Report way over my head - major slow down after upgrade to Yosemite
Hi All!
This is my first post here, but I upgraded to Yosemite the other day and my Macbook has been painfully slow ever since. I read about Etrecheck today and downloaded and am posting it's report below. I know my computer is beyond ancient, but other than routine maintenance I've not had any issues before now. I'm not sure what additional info I should include, so my apologies for what I've not included and if someone would let me know what else is needed regarding my system I'll be glad to post it. Thanks for any and all help...

I would recommend that you repartition the drive which will prevent the WD software from running by removing it entirely. Then redo your Time Machine backup.
I am not sure what the Pace stuff is for. It may be a part of Avid software. If you don't know what it's for, then most likely you don't need it.
Uninstalling software can prove quite a chore. Here's a little something to help you out:
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper
2. AppDelete
3. Automaton
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller
10. Spring Cleaning

When you "finish" be sure to restart the computer. Exactly what Mac model do you have? -
Slow Macbook after updating to Yosemite 10.10.3
Please see the below report from EtreCheck in regards to this.
Thanks.
Problem description:
Macbook Pro has been running very slowly since updating to Yosemite 10.10.3 (I think thats it) to the point where it has been basically unusable.
There seems to be spikes as to when the Macbook runs most slowly.
Have re-installed OS X a number of times and even restored the Macbook to a point before updating Yosemite to 10.10.3 via TimeMachine.
Other things i have done include:
- Reducing the number of things Spotlight searches for - I have a notification thats says ‘Optimising Your Mac - Performance and Battery life will be affected until completed’ which has been there for over a week now. I had read on some forums this was to do with Spotlight re-indexing, however when checking to find a progress bar there does not appear to be one which suggest Spotlight re-indexing is not the issue.
- Removing unecessary widgets, mail and calendar accounts (Issues with Calendar Agent were showing up in Console)
- Ran EtreCheck and removed a number of .plist files that seemed be an issue. It appears from this report that one still remins for CleanMyMac2 (which I know causes issues). Tried to delete this file but it won't allow me.
There a few others but I’ve been trying so many things Ive lost track.
If someone could help it would be much appreciated.

Mac Mini 2011 slow down after updating to Yosemite
Hi all!
After updating my Mac Mini (half 2011) from Mavericks to Yosemite, it became extremely slow and unresponsive. I have to wait a lot of time for apps to open and commands, like clicking a button, to be executed executed. File Vault, that I read is a common cause of slow down, is NOT enabled.
What should I do? In these cases, for my Windows PC, I insert the OS DVD and format: what's the equivalent operation for a Mac?
Thank you in advance for your help!K1kk0z90 wrote:

Slow computer after Mavericks upgrade
A while ago I had to update my Mac to OS X Mavericks (Version 10.9.5), but I experience that this has made my computer slow. It is slow when starting, when I use the internet, when I search files on the computer etc. Not incredibly slow, just annoyingly slow.
I had to do the upgrade to Mavericks to be able to run a program I use frequently.
I have a lot of free storage: 526 Gb free (out of 749 Gb).
Now I wonder if there is anything I can do to make the computer faster? Should I upgrade to Yosemite - or should I definitely not do that?
I'd appreciate very much if there is any good advice out there.
My computer is a MackBook Pro (15-inch) from mid 2012.

Slow computer after BSOD.
I have an MSI GE60 that runs windows 7. I was trying to use a USB game controller and was repeatedly plugging it in and unplugging it (it was not working) suddenly my computer crashed. After the reboot I did the same thing with the controller. It crashed
again. I then booted it one more time and did not use the controller at all. It has not crashed since. It has been though extremely slow since. Every aspect of it has been sluggish. I have run a memtest and chckdsk. Both of these returned no reported errors.
Here is the code for the crash:

Very slow Macbook after updating to Yosemite.
Two questions;
1) I updated to Yosemite a few days ago and like it. But my macbook (2013) is now running very slow. I have done all the latests software updates.
In the Activity Monitor, a process called DesktopServicesHelper (PID 1681) take up 99% of my CPU%. What is this and why? How do I fix it? Please help!
2) Also in the Activity Monitor, there is a process which is not responding, called com.apple.geod (PID 1703). What is this? What does it mean? How do I fix it?When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Hi.
Since updating to Yosemite on MacBook Air when I try to copy and paste a photo from iPhoto to an email instead of the photo coming up in the email, which it has always done, I get something like this pasted in the email ...file:111Users/Pictures?iPhoto%20Library/Previews/2014/09/11/20140911144300/u kEgw etc etc etc ... ending in .jpg.
How please do I now send a picture in an aol email, or what do I untick or tick, to change the above figures and numbers to the actual photo, so when I copy and paste a photo from iPhoto, the picture comes up in an aol email and not gobbledegook (sorry computer bods!!!) figures and numbers!!
Very many thanks.
BobbyWell, I will tackle the picture problem and see what I can learn. I am in Los Gatos, California (Silicon Valley) and there is an Apple store 2 miles away so I will go in ask them about this. It will take me a couple of days to get that done likely. Frankly, I have the same general problem about pasting stuff into that screen where you are writing emails. Something amiss here.
I am unfamiliar with the problem you have with BlueTooth interfering with WiFi and think that is likely specific to you, or more likely something completely different that LOOKS like a Bluetooth related problem. I am normally and right this minute running a BlueTooth keyboard and mouse and the computer is a MacBook Pro connected via WiFi through an Apple Extreme router to the internet and to my printer. I have had no issues that I know of between BlueTooth and WiFi. The same is true for the iPad and a bluetooth keyboard which communicates by WiFi with this home network and my iPhone and Bluetooth headset that I use adjacent to the computer. All this worked "right out of the box" so to speak
Thanks for your reply

Slow computer after update to 10.7.4.
After updating to 10.7.4., my MacBook Air (2,13 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1067Mhz) my became very sluggish. Logging in lasts 5 minutes, all programmes are very slow, internet is slower, even typing is something difficult. Do you have any suggestions to remedy this situation ?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Do the same with kernel.log.
Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
Slower computer after being sent a letter promising faster
Two weeks ago I received a letter stating we were going to have faster internet service, however after doing everything I was supposed to do, our service is now half the speed it was. I am tech savvy so will understand anything suggested. Thank you in advance.
Hello, I am experiencing the same thing. We recently upgraded our modem to the new xfinity modem/router combo and I am have slow speeds also. It's not consistent, I had better speeds with my old modem but now I can't even use that at all.

Proof colors in Lightroom 2.1?
