Slow connection through a Linksys WET11

Hi There! I have a WET11 connected to a slot loading iMac. It has been configured and picks up the Netgear WPN824 router, which is on the floor below.
The iMac can connect to the internet but it is incredibly slow; slower than dial-up. How can I improve the speed through the WET11? Many thanks for your input. jd

  • Logging inbound and outbound connections through my Linksys router

    Hi There,
I have a  Linksys wireless router (WRT54G series) that I use to connect to the internet with my cable modem. I would like to be able to configure my home network to log inbound and outbound connections through my router.
My router, which I bought brand new a couple of years ago, provides some very basic logging through its administration interface.  I can view a current log of very recent (within the past couple of minutes) inbound and outbound connections/traffic.  However, I would like to be able to configure my network to log all inbound and outbound traffic for at least 1 or 2 days and have this log saved somewhere so I can retrieve and review it at a more convenient time.  I haven't been able to figure out how to do this with my current Linksys router and would like some help in configuring my system.
Is it possible for me to configure (perhaps with a firmware upgrade or even by replacing my older Linksys router with a newer one) my router to continuously log a day or more's worth of inbound and outbound connections?  If this is possible, what changes do I need to implement?  Does Linksys offer a wireless router that has more sophisticated logging capabilities?  What is the longest log period that I can create with a Linksys router?
If it's not possible to create such a log with my router, then what other components would I need to log this information?  I've thought about setting up a Linux server with two network cards installed to act as a gateway between my router and cable modem which will log traffic.  Would this be a good strategy to implement logging?
    Thanks in advance.

well...the router's in-built log will only provide basic information about the incoming/outgoing log . So, it will be a good idea to install a separate log viewer .....

  • Slow Connection Through Base Station

I have Virgin 10MB cable connection and it's normally bang on 10MB is measured using speedtest.net
If I connect through my Airport Extreme Base Station I get between 1MB and 2MB.
This never used to happen, started about 2-3 weeks ago. Can't see anything in the Airport config hat would really change this and certainly haven't made any config changes myself.
This is for a wired connection - not tested wireless.
    Any help appreciated

I have the same problem. I am using Virgin Media's 20Mb/s cable service with their cable modem.
Connecting the modem directly to my Macbook, I get 18Mb/s at the ZDNet speedtest.
Connecting a TimeCapsule (which is similar to an Airport Extreme) between the Macbook and the cable modem (wired, not wireless) the speed drops to 0.5Mb/s
Previously, I was using an ADSL connection and the TimeCapsule worked fine.
I have no solution but I would be very interested in resolving this issue.
    Thanks

  • Iron port slow connection through firewall interface, data blanked out

    Hi Alll
Installing a new pair of IronPort c170 appliances behind a ASA 5520 and currently getting blanked out response when connecting via telnet on port 25 to the outside interface.  Testing this internally there are no issues and the hostname is shown, but from the outside, response is very slow and some information is masked as xxxxxxx.
Going through the ASA, esmtp stateful packet inspection is removed and the IPS has already been ruled out.
Has anyone come accross this issue before. Please could you shine some light on this.
    Many thanks

    Hello James,
when some of the information is masked, this means you still have SMTP fixup enabled on the ASA. I am not an expert on these devices, but here is an article on this topic that may be useful:

  • Slow connection through Oracle ODBC

    Hello,
I have problems with connecting to ORACLE fr om IIS (Win2000) using Oracle's ODBC driver.
I am using Oracle 8.1.7 SE. I tried to change connection pooling timeout of the ODBC driver, but still connections time out after a minute or so and it takes 6-8 seconds to load a simple web page that reads only ~ 1 kb of information from ORACLE. The time to establish a connection to MS (Access ,SQL server) is less than a second. How can I establish connections to ORACLE faster?
    Please help,
    thanks,
    Gyorgy

    Justin,
    thanks for your quick replies.
    Using Oracle ODBC 32Bit Test:
the connection seems instantaneous. I tried to enable connection pooling for Oracle ODBC driver with a wait in the pool for 600s. Maybe this will keep it live and I can instantiate a fake connection every 10 minutes? I do not what else I could try ...

  • Slow connection speeds on my G4

Hello all, I recently purchased a 15" powerbook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4. This is my first mac product so I'm new to setting it up with my preferences. Now on to my question, I have a windows XP desktop PC which is connected to a linksys wireless-G broadband router. I connected to the network on my G4 through airport and I can browse the internet, but it browses at much slower speeds than my desktop PC. (I am connected to the internet through Direc-Way which is a satellite connection; somewhat slower than dsl/cable). So recently I ran a speed test on my desktop PC which currently ran around 566 kbps. Then I tested my G4 and it was only running around 17 kbps. So is there anything I can do to get my G4 running at the same speeds as my desktop PC? I tried connecting the G4 directly to the router with an ethernet cable but it was still running slow. If anyone has any info as to what I could do about this it would be much appreciated since Direc-way and Linksys support left me without any solutions. Thanks,
    Max

Heres an update to my last post. Instead of connecting through a Linksys router to get internet access, I simply connected my modem directly to my powerbook with an ethernet cable and now am recieving high speeds like I should. This obviously doen't solve my problem because I need the wireless router to connect other computers, but at least I know that its not my powerbook that isn't doing it's job properly. So I'm thinking maybe it's the Linksys router that is malfunctioning when an apple and a windows pc are connected to it. I'm going to try bringing this router back to the store and replace it with a new one and see if it makes any difference.
It seems I have another problem now though. When I try to run software updates, it brings up an error message. The message states "A networking error has occured: bad server response (-1011). Make sure you can connect to the internet, then try again." I'm not sure why I'm recieving this error because I am definitely connected to the internet considering I can browse and go on AIM. Its been doing this pretty much everytime I try to run software updates except for maybe one or two times it actually connected. Any help about this matter would be greatly appreciated, Thanks for your time.

    Hi Earsdale,
All the three servers are using the same configuration, so, I'm afraid it's not possible to give you a simple answer. You will need more troubleshooting.
I would recommend you to start by checking the differences between the servers because one of those differences is certainly causing the failure.
Also, it would be helpful to get traffic captures on the TenGig interface of the ACE to compare the behavior of the connection when going to the different servers, as well as the differences when being load-balanced vs accessing the server directly.
If you need help with this troubleshooting, you can always open a TAC service request

  • Eeeeep..... connecting with Linksys Wet11

I just replied to another thread, but I think it may be better to just ask the whole forum....
I've trying to install the Linksys Wet11 (off of Ebay) on my daughters imac. I connected it and have followed all the instructions........BUT apparantly I bought an older model because the set up is at 192.168.1.225, and when I went to the Linksys site to get intructions for installing it on a Mac my set up page looked much different than the one they describe.
And there is no set-up wizard on mine.
They say the set up panel has tabs that say
info, wireless, IP addr, Admin & Help,
    but mine has only
set up, status, password and help tabs
i guess it must be an older version of the set-up program........
I've tried to kind of blunder my way thru, and when I look at the network status of the Ethernet connection it has a green light and says I am connected.
But when I try to get online, or contact the other computers on my network it doesn't work. And when I use the Network Setup assistant it says that the subnet mask and router are not consistent with my IP address, which 192.168.1.5 that the linksys program has you set it to......
I read on a different thread that it won't connect with IP addresses that are in 192.168.0.x range, but that it does fine with the 192.168.1.x range....... could this be the problem, and how would I remedy it? I know the router address for all the other devices on my network ARE in the 192.168.0.x range.
I am fairly Mac literate, but network literate I am NOT, so please feel free to ask anything that I haven't given you info about...... Thanks

    Hi
It would appear you have a version 1 WET11 the manual says that you have the correct IP address for the bridge for either version. The set-up wizard is for PC's only you will need to use the web browser instructions. Bung http://192.168.1.225 into the address bar of Safari and away you go. If your firmware is not up to date you can do that at the same time.
If you set the bridge to collect it's IP address automatically from the router via DHCP and the ethernet tab on the network preferences pane to automatic it should work without a problem. Getting back to adjust the settings in the bridge can be a tad more difficult after it's set up.
It was a 5 minute job to set up an iMac 500Mhz just recently. Hope this helps.

  • Slow connection with WRT160N router through wired & wireless

When I connected directly to my cable modem, I got ~10Mbs. But when I connected through my new WRT160N router with either wired or wireless, I got only half the speed, which is 4-5Mbs. Anyone know why or any idea how to change the setting to make the connection faster. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Login to the web administration interface and under the security tab disable SPI (stateful packet inspection). This feature is designed to detect wan interface attacks (ping of death) and block the sender. It kills your throughput for your internet connection. Try xferring a file across your lan (wireless to wired pc) and check your N speeds. The xfer speed should be 100mbps since the wired pc will most likely be limited to 100mbps by your nic. If lan speed is slower than 100mbps (assuming you have and are using N standard) then you may have a bad router. Definitely disable SPI though and that should fix your slow wan speed.

  • Very slow connection with WRT54GS.

It appeared out of nowhere 2 days ago... slow connection for websites, very high latency for online games to a point where it's unplayable... i tried to reset my router, change channel(i'm usually at channel 6), moving the antennas... nothing. when i reset, the speed is fine for a few minutes, but after a while it's back to slow connection. My router isn't even 1 year old yet and it's already broken? I can't believe that, there must be some solution. Anyone can help please?

The latest firmware is 1.02.0 if you have wrt54gs v6 & V5 if yout got v7 the latest firmware is 7.50.0
First step you need to check is your direct connection from the modem.
    1. hardwire your computer straight to the modem using a cat 5 ethernet cable, if your download speed and your internet connection is slow, the problem is with the modem or with your ISP so you need to call your ISP and double check your connection.
If your speed if fine straight to the modem then its with the router.
2.Hardwire your computer straight to the router if your speed is fine when its hardwired through the router, then the problem is with your wireless card or the wireless settings of the router.
In US the standard channel is 11,6 and 1. So play around with the channel. If its still doesnt work then access the setup page of your router click on the WIRELESS tab click on ADVANCE WIRELESS SETTINGS sub tab. set beacon interval to 50, RTS and Fragmentation Threshold to 2304.
After that turn off the modem the router and your computer for 1min. After a minute turn on the modem first after lights of your modem are steady, turn on the router and lastly turn on your computer, check your connection if its fine then its fixed if not call linksys tech support.
I hope this would help. Good Luck!

  • WRT54G3G-ST very slow connection speeds

    Hi,
I recently purchased a wrt54g3g-st router for mobile broadband and I have had some problems with the connection speeds. I have called linksys support but they were no help. I am using a PC-5740 broadband card which works perfectly fine in laptops by itself. When I am connected through the router its shows that I have 54.0 Mps speed but the pages load about as slow as dial-up speeds
Thanks for any help you can give me on this problem

if loading the pages is the only problem then try adjusting the mtu settings on the router ui to 1392 ....

  • Slow connection with WRT54GS

I have a desktop PC that is connected to a Westell DSL modem. I connected router to this and have a laptop I am trying to connect to the system.  I can get connected, however my connection is very slow.  I have changed the SSIS and WEP WPA on both the modem and the router and even changed the channel on both.  I have reset the router and gone through the whole process several times. No matter what I do, I cannot get a good connection on the wireless.  The signal strength is excellent but very slow connection.  Please help if you can.  I have only the barest knowledge of computers too.  I can follow directions fine but it has to be laid out for me

If you are using a westell modem, make sure you change the IP address of the router to a different segment, most westell linksys combos have ip conflicts, try setting your router into 192.168.2.1 or sumthing else. Then try reconnecting to the Internet on all computers and see if there is a difference...

  • Windows Domain Controller on Windows Server 2012 R2: Hyper-V roaming profiles not loading due to slow connection

I have racked my brain and done everything that I know to do for about two weeks now.  I am setting up a new system at our fire department and I am having the worst luck with getting the workstations to login to the domain controller with roaming
profiles.  It keeps telling me that the roaming profile could not be loaded because of a slow connection.  These are workstations that are connected directly to the switch that the DC is connected to.  I have tried multiple connections regarding
the layout (DC into the router, router into the switch).  The router is a Cisco RV220W.  I have two VLANS, one for public and one for private domain.  The Private VLAN has DHCP turned off since I am providing it through the DC.  I currently
have a connection from the Private VLAN going to the unmanaged switch that the workstations and server are plugged into.
The server is a Dell PowerEdge R420 that has 6 NIC ports (1 dual port and 1 quad port).  I have a virtual switch setup on Hyper-V for an external port (let's say Card 2 Port 3) that is assigned to the WS 2012R2 Domain Controller.  The DC can see
the internet fine and the workstations can connect to the shared folders on the server.  I can retrieve files by just using the computer name or FQDN.  The DC is also running DNS and DHCP.  The DNS has the _msdcs setup from when I installed
the active directory role.  I have attempted to assign static IP addresses to the workstations:
    IP:                     10.0.0.80
    Subnet:             255.255.255.0
    IPV4 Gateway:  10.0.0.1
    IPV4 DNS:        10.0.0.12
I've attempted "append the specific DNS suffix", I've "registered the connection in DNS", I've used "use this connections suffix in DNS registration".
    The server is assigned:
    IP:                     10.0.0.12
    Subnet:             255.255.255.0
    IPV4 Gateway:  10.0.0.1
    IPV4 DNS:         10.0.0.12
The DNS entries have forwarders that forward to my ISP DNS servers for lookup
I've enabled and disabled DHCP, I've installed a new VM just to create another DC to make sure that I didn't goof up when I created it.
I've lost my patience with this project and am sinking fast.  Can someone please offer some advice as to what I've done wrong?  I've created this exact scenario at work many times but, I've never done it with Windows Server 2012.  Is this
possibly something to do with the Dell PowerEdge server (Generation 12) with the SR-IOV?  I am going to attempt to work on it some more tomorrow when I get over there.  I think there may be an issue with the SR-IOV not being enabled on the machine
through the Dell Bios.  Would the SR-IOV really cause the workstations to report a slow connection?  When I login at the domain controller the roaming profiles and folder redirection work fine so, I know the GPO settings are correct.  I don't
have "ignore slow connections" or any of those GPO's set.  I need to get it working the correct way so, I didn't want to fool the server when there is another underlying problem.  Any help that someone can offer, I am more than willing
to listen.  If you need more information, please ask.
    Thanks,
    Jay

So, I've managed to research this some more since Thursday and I've come to the conclusion that Hyper-V does a horrible job of supporting Qualcomm NIC cards. That's the only thing I can conclude as far as where the issue is originating. I've read many
post and walkthroughs but nothing that has helped. The issue wasn't with any settings in the domain controller. The issue was that there really is a slow connection originating at the domain controller that is a VM and has network connectivity through the
virtual switch from Hyper-V. So, next question is, how do I get the DC to have better connectivity through the NIC that Hyper-V won't give it? If hyper-v would allow passthrough, this would be so much simpler. VM-ware is looking really good at this point.
Im disappointed in MS right now.

  • My iPad will no longer connect to my Linksys wireless router.  Every other electronic device in our house connects just fine.  What can I do?

I have an iPad (the earliest version) that used to connect to my Linksys wireless router with no difficulty.  One night recently I could not get on the internet through my iPad.  I checked the Wi-Fi information, which said it was not connected. When I go through the process of choosing a network, on which my home system is clearly listed along with a very strong signal strength, I am told that my iPad is unable to join my own network.  All the other electronic devices in our house are connected and functioning fine.  Can anyone walk me through the steps to correct this problem?
I need to add that I took my iPad to the Appple store, and the clerk there reset something--I don't know what--and my iPad was able to connect to their network.  When I came home, though, I was not able to connect to my home network.

If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.
    Good luck
