Slow connection with westell 9100Em router...

i decided to make my own thread and mayb a tech support will see it and solve my problems or anybody that know why this happens and can help me with this.
1. my first problem is my speed, i never get what i paid for which is 20/5 and i know u wont always get your max speed but atleast close to it. the only time i get close to that speed is when i reset or reboot my router which is a hassel to do everytime i get on internet or when i call tech support to reset my ONT which is also a hassel to do everytime i get on the internet.
they tried to resolve it by saying its the router but i just got a replacement router yesterday, which is also a westell 9100EM router and still the same problem. if its not consistent with the speed, i will call tech support again but so far its not, its down to 5/1 and even 2/0.8.
2.my ping is really high, 500ms average and the max today was around 900ms and that i know its really bad when i know its suppose to be less than 100ms or even less than 50ms. so with this high ping, i cant play online on my 360 b/c the connection to each player is really bad with that high ping. my bullets for call of duty 4 modern combat is really laggy, so bad it lags for about a second or two which makes u a dead duck when you are out in the open.
if anyone can help me with this problem, i will appreciate your efforts.

If you send me a private message with your account info, I will look into your service and get this resolved for you.

  • Wireless IP Camera Won't Connect To Westell 9100EM Router

I'm trying to connection an IP camera, on Fios, to my Verizon Westell 9100EM router.
Connecting the camera via a wired connection works fine.  Port forwarding is automatically configured when turning the camera on, at TCP ANY 554, and the IP camera is viewable on the web.  No worries.
However, when unplugging the cord, the router never recogizes the camera.  Not after resetting, powering off/on, etc.  Both the WEP and SSID are set correctly on the camera.  All other wireless devices (laptops, Xbox 360, iPhone, etc.) work fine on the router.
Naturally, the camera people blame Verizon and Verizon blames the camera people.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

What are the details on the camera (Make, model, etc) ?

  • Slow connection with WRT160Nv2 model router

someone help please...I am having slow to intermittent connection when router is hooked up...when hooked directly to modem speed and connection is fine..no problems when changing websites or pages...but with router hooked up, I sometimes get a very slow connection or the computer doesn't detect internet connection & goes into the diagnose connection program...which somtimes doesn't detect any connection issue when run and the computer connects to internet then or tell me to power cycle modem and router then try to connect which works...and the connection will be good for a bit then does this all over again...very frustrating...is their a setting in the router or what do I need to do to fix this issue?

Check this link to upgade or reflash the router's firmware.

  • Bridging a Westell 9100EM Router to a Netgear N600

    Hello there,
I was wondering if there was a way to turn my Westell 9100EM Router into an access point/bridge, so I can setup my Netgear N600 Router to work as a client, so that the signal is evenly and more furtherer spread across my house. I am an intermediate when it comes to networking, so a step-by-step would be heavily appreciated. Thank you!

If you have FiOS TV service, then you shouldn't bridge it.  Verizon interlaced so many TV features into the westell router that it would probably put a damper on your FiOS TV experience.
    These features include
    The Guide System and Updates
    The Video On Demand
    The Widgets
    Caller ID on TV
    Multi Room DVR
    Remote DVR
So if you have FiOS TV, don't bridge.  Instead you CAN piggy back the router, and get the same affect. Follow the instructions below.
Can I use my wireless or an extra router along with the Verizon provided router?
If you don't have FiOS TV service, then Check Which Wan LIGHT is lit on your router.
If you have just the ETHERNET WAN lit, then just simply release your ip address of your westell, disconnect it and plug in your router.  Configure it for DHCP and you should be good to go.
If you have Coax WAN Lit, then you can make a choice.
You can hook up ethernet cable from the Verizon ONT directly to your router. Call Verizon and ask them to switch you to ethernet (online chat also might be able to help you do this)
You can try bridging the modem using one of the methods listed in this FAQ

  • Very slow connection with Mifi 4510L??

I'm hoping someone here can give some guidance. I am having very slow connection with the 4510L we just got. Via test on speedtest.net I'm seeing download speed of .17 MBPS at times it was so slow the test was not completing. I normally have 1 or 2 bars on the mifi unit and have seen up to 3 at times. I drove into town and see the same range (1 to 3 bars). I have yet to see the 4G light come on except for prior to activation (would light solid green at times) since activating I have only seen the violet light for 3G.
Verizon advertises full service both around our city (Richmond, VA) and at my more remote location in Hanover. I have been through the recommended resets and nothing seems to improve the connection speed. Could the unit itself be defective? Also, I've noticed when I go to a location website it thinks I am in Pennsylvania when I am in Virginia. Could the Mifi be trying to connect to a signal in that location for some reason (was refurbished device)
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Brian

I was having problems but upgrading to 2.28 seems to have helped me in addition to a few other changes I made based on this review of the 4510L
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4500/novatel-wireless-mifi-4510l-review-the-best-4g-lte-wifi-hotspot/4
    1) "selecting WPA2 Personal/PSK (AES)"
    2) "manually selecting a channel (instead of Auto) fixes almost all the instability problems"
(I'm not sure if it actually worked as the diagnostics always shows channel 0 no matter what I picked.  I did try a couple before one - or the myriad of other things I tried - seemed to make a difference - at least for now - fingers crossed)
    3) "allowing for one to select between each network mode manually, so you can force 4G LTE, EVDO, 1xRTT, or all of the above. This is incredibly useful if you’re right at the cutoff for 4G LTE SINR"  (that's WWAN Preferred Mode LTE only for me)
    4) I also changed my 802.11 Mode to just one mode that works on both computers at my house
    5) I am also careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
It is my only internet service due to my semiremote location (no cable etc) and when I first got it as a replacement for my dependable 2200 I was about to pull all my hair out.  I was "forced" into it because due to antenna issues on a local tower that supplies my 3G signal my 2200 wasn't even able to load my gmail account.  Verizon very helpful on that - call us if its still an issue in a "few weeks"!  However, when I inquired about the antenna's effect on a 4G signal, an intelligent tech was able to tell me that it was not the tower I would be getting a 4G signal off of - odd but I didn't question that possibility.
It runs very very warm but I suspect having it on the charger and using it almost all day is part of that.  At first I was wondering if heat was part of the problem - going so far as to have it sitting on an ice pack to test that theory.  Of course then I had to wonder if maybe I was freezing it -lol.  I am careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
I've been on it most of the day and it seems to be behaving well - so fingers crossed

  • I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen. The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router. Any ideas why?

I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen.
The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router and thus with the internet.
    Any ideas why?

Is the second Extreme configured to "extend" the network created by the first? If so its position must be such that it has a strong wireless connection to the first Extreme. If it is at the limits of the first one's wireless range its connection will be tenuous. Place them closer together and determine if that makes a difference.

  • Need help setting up an IP phone with the Westell 9100EM router

I have an IP phone that I use for work - it's an old fashioned Axxess phone by InterTel but it works. I've had both DSL and cable service before, using a Netgear wireless router with the phone and never had an issue with the phone connecting to our office phone system. I just recently moved and have FIOS and chose not to hook up the Netgear, since the Westell does DHCP just fine.
When I connect the phone, the phone is receiving an IP address from the router and I can see it's connected when I'm logged onto the router but it will not connect with our system. The phone runs through UDP port 5567 but connects usually with TCP port 5566. I can ping 5566 and get a reply. I can telnet our Remote IPC IP using 5566 and get a response but the phone times out after 60 seconds of not being able to connect.
I have checked out this website and am guessing it has something to do with port forwarding. I tried to make some changes but I'm not sure I understand enough about how it's supposed to work to feel confident that I put the right information in the right places!
I could really use a nudge in the right direction. The phone worked a few days ago on a DSL connection so I know the phone is working. Other users who work from home are not having issues with their IP phones so I've narrowed it down to the router. Both my computers are working on the system too.
    Thanks!
    Anne

At that screen in your router, change the Starting IP so that it is
    192.168.1.100
#2 On the Axxess phone by InterTel, setup a static IP outside of that range.
You can set any number that you want to BUT NOT: 0, 1, 100 to 255.
#3 Here is/are guide(s) for that router (This is based upon the screen images seen so far)

  • Westell 9100em router forgets custom DNS Setting

Is anyone else trying to use custom DNS settings with their Westell 9100em routers?  My problem is that when/if it loses its connection to Verizon (either system glitch or power on/off), the DNS settings revert to the system default (choose automatically).  I use OpenDNS...and its great. This is very frustrating.  I used to have an Actiontec that worked just fine before the router itself died..  This problem seems to be specific to Westell - it remembers everything else (SSID, security keys etc) but resets the DNS settings.
Tech support has been no help.  They just  send me a new Westell (arrrrrgh!) that does the same thing .  Apparently the shipping people just pull "a router" off the shelves and ship them.  Seems like a firmware bug to me.  Today they sent me to the 'Billing group" who told me that I'd have to pay $150 if I wanted an Actiontec!!!!
All I want is for them to send me the latest Actiontec (since I never had this problem with them before).
Anyone else run into this?  How'd you resolve it?
    Thanks

    The router rebooted itself...DNS lost.

  • Wifi bridging with westell 9100em

so i just moved in with new roomates, they have fios for tv, internet, and phone. They have a westell 9100em wifi router that was installed with the service. i would like to setup my own subnet so that i can have my own security settings being that they aren't that concerned with their security and therefor pretty much have none, and also would like to have my own file sharing network. That being the case i need to try figure out how to set this up, with some of the communities help of course.
so here's what i have, the westell 9100em wifi router using moca.
    a tp-link TL-WA901ND ap/bridge,
    and a linksys WRT160N V2 wifi router.
What I would like to do is setup a wireless bridge between the tp-link and the westell, then connect the linksys to the tp-link so that i can have a wired connection from my desktop pcs (2) and xbox360, and a secure wifi connection for my laptop, netbook, and smartphone.
any help on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated, i have tried to set up the bridge but the menus for the westell are not very user friendly, and i cannot seem to get it to work. after that i think i should be able to just set the linksys up as just a switch and be good? haven't made it that far yet though.

    adamranders wrote:
so when I try to set the linksys wifi router to work as a switch I'm getting errors and no connection, I'm pretty sure I may be setting it up wrong but not quite sure where the mistake(s) are? Any help?
To have a separate (private) network, you want the connection from the TP-Link to go to the WAN port of the Linksys.
The Linksys WAN side can either get a DHCP address from the Westell or can have a static IP address on the Westell's subnet (192.168.1.x).
The LAN side of the Linksys must have a different subnet (e.g. 192.168.2.x).  It can not use the 192.168.1.x subnet.
There is nothing in the Westell that you need to change unless you need to forward ports, then you will need to do so in both routers.

  • Trouble replacing Westell 9100EM router w/ Asus RT-AC68U

I got a new router (ASUS RT-A68U) and want to replace the Westell 9100EM that came installed w/ my FiOS package.
I have the new router connected, and it can get to the internet just fine.  It's gui says it's connected to the internet, and I can use it's onboard diagnostics to ping google.com, do a tracert, etc.  However, none of the devices I connect to the new router can get an IP address.  My WIRED connection from the PC to the router is unable to get an IP, even after ipconfig /release and /renew (Windows 7, from command line).  My mobile phone can connect wirelessly to the new router, but is also unable to get an IP address.
Are there some settings I need to manage in order to have it automatically assign IPs to connected devices?  I've set the new router to use google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4).  Do I need to use verizon's servers first?  Is there a change to the subnet mask or anything else that I'm missing?
Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice

Reset the router to factory defaults by pressing the reset button,
By default the router is set up as 192.168.1.1 so enter that address in a browser and connect
The default login is uerid admin and password admin
you should be able to use Quick Internet Setup QIS
Your fios account will give you an automatic dhcp address and no userid and password is required for that
at this point your router should be connected to the internet.
Using the main manu select lan and make sure the dhcp server is turned on (it's the radio button toggle at the top), should be by default and it should be handing out addresses on the 192.168.1 subnet.
On your machine run cmd and type in ipconfig /all - certify that you have an ip address of 192.168.1.x
If you've set the router dns to the google dns servers after the router reset then ipconfig should also show you that your dns servers are what you entered on the router if so
All is OK an you should be up and running
You'll probably want to change the default wireless settings, how to do that is inb the user manual.
There is no need to reference the Verizon dns servers

  • Westell 9100EM Router Firmware - latest version?

I have a Westell 9100EM FIOS Router with firmware version 2.01.02.00  .  As far as I know, it's never been updated since the install several years ago since my update setting has been set to "Automatic Update DIsabled" from the pull-down choices in the Advanced Upgrade Firmware section in the Router setup screen.
All is working ok, no problems, but I was curious if there was a more recent firmware version available for download & install.
I found a link here and downloaded the firmware file (haven't tried installing) but I wanted to see if this was the latest version as the version # appears to be an earlier version.
The downloaded version # is A90-9100EM15-10_1.02.00.04 which would seem, at a glance, to indicate an earlier version # than my existing Router version.
Has anyone updated the Westell 9100EM firmware recently with the above version?
    Solved!

  • Flaky VOIP with Westell 9100em

After adding FiOS TV last week my voip started flaking out, working sometimes, then not.  I've moved my voip box to the DMZ of the router without any change of behavior.  I can receive calls, but as soon as I do I cannot dial out for a while.
After chatting with my voip provider they said the Westell 9100em is the problem and SPI is getting in the way.  I tend to agree with that diagnosis but do not know how to fix it.  I don't know a lot about SPI, but it's frustrating the the DMZ isn't really wide open to the world.
I tried some Advanced Filtering rules to disable SPI without luck.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.  I really like my voip provider but I'm unwilling to put their box in front of the Westell router.

You did setup a static IP that is outside of the DHCP range of the router:

  • Very slow connection with WRT54GS.

It appeared out of nowhere 2 days ago... slow connection for websites, very high latency for online games to a point where it's unplayable... i tried to reset my router, change channel(i'm usually at channel 6), moving the antennas... nothing. when i reset, the speed is fine for a few minutes, but after a while it's back to slow connection. My router isn't even 1 year old yet and it's already broken? I can't believe that, there must be some solution. Anyone can help please?

The latest firmware is 1.02.0 if you have wrt54gs v6 & V5 if yout got v7 the latest firmware is 7.50.0
First step you need to check is your direct connection from the modem.
    1. hardwire your computer straight to the modem using a cat 5 ethernet cable, if your download speed and your internet connection is slow, the problem is with the modem or with your ISP so you need to call your ISP and double check your connection.
If your speed if fine straight to the modem then its with the router.
2.Hardwire your computer straight to the router if your speed is fine when its hardwired through the router, then the problem is with your wireless card or the wireless settings of the router.
In US the standard channel is 11,6 and 1. So play around with the channel. If its still doesnt work then access the setup page of your router click on the WIRELESS tab click on ADVANCE WIRELESS SETTINGS sub tab. set beacon interval to 50, RTS and Fragmentation Threshold to 2304.
After that turn off the modem the router and your computer for 1min. After a minute turn on the modem first after lights of your modem are steady, turn on the router and lastly turn on your computer, check your connection if its fine then its fixed if not call linksys tech support.
I hope this would help. Good Luck!

  • Painfully slow connection with new master socket

    Hi forum
Hoping for some advice or perspective on possible issue with my broadband connection. Perhaps unrelated, but I recently had a new master socket fitted (NTE5), however the broadband speed in the house is now painfully slow.
Am using BT Home Hub 4, below are the rest results I'm receiving, however I'm curious as to whether 0.25Mbps really is likely to be the maximum achievable speed, as this renders several services almost unusable.
Grateful if anyone feels there is more that could be done.

  • Slow connection with wireless, normal when wired

I've looked at the previous posts regarding this problem but I don't know how to do any of the recommended procedures. I can connect to the internet wirelessly with no problem but my wireless connection has become very slow all of a sudden (speakeasy speed test is 150-300 kbps). If I connect with a cable instead (wired connection) I get my great Comcast digital cable download speed on Speakeasy which is 15-16 Mbps! Previous posts mention looking at what the "RWIN" is set at and changing it but I'm not comfortable messing around with such basic Windows XP settings when I don't know how to reset back to the default if it doesn't work. Is there any patch from Linksys for fixing this or another easy way to fix it? Thanks! Kenshu

First thing is download firmware from www.linksys.com/download, and update it to latest version. Now follow this from a wired computer : Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser's address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Here enable MTU and set size to 1350. Go to security tab, and disable block anonymous internet requests. Change channel to 11. Go to advanced wireless settings and here change beacon interval to 50, fragmentation threshold to 2306, and RTS threshold to 2307, DTIM to 2. Now reboot modem and router.
