Slow data transfer to/from USB Jump Dive

I am experiencing extremely slow transfer speeds using a PNY USB Jump Drive on my 2.4Ghz Intel iMac with 4G RAM running Leopard 10.5.8. Same problem no matter what port is used for the connection. This same Jump Drive is blazing fast on my other G4 Macs running Tiger. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Have you tried reformatting it on the newer iMac? Try using the Erase tab in Disk Utility to erase (reformat) it. See if that makes a difference.
Note: Although it should not affect the access speed, the native +partition map scheme+ for PowerPC Macs is +Apple Partition Map+. For Intel Macs, it is +GUID Partition Table+. If that flash drive is formatted for Windows, it may use +Master Boot Record+ with FAT32 formatting. You can see what it uses currently by looking at the bottom of the Disk Utility window with the flash drive highlighted in the sidebar. Such factors may have an impact on access speeds.
Also, if you have a regular USB external drive and try it on both Macs, do you notice any similar difference in access speeds.

How can you transfer files from USB stick to ipad2?

Buy a portable wi-fi router with file sharing such as MOCREO 5-in-1 Portable WiFi (not personaly vouching for this one it just happens to be the one I have and it cost less than the apple connection cables).
Plug your USB stick into the router
Connect your phone via wi-fi to the router.
Log into the routers built in file managment or use any FTP capable app to connect (GoodReader, ifiles, etc)

  • Slow data transfer on Disk images created in Mountain Lion

Hi apple community, since upgrading to OS 10.8, every blank disk image that I create using disk utility, no matter what partition setting I use, results in excrutiatingly slow data transfer speeds. I do not have this problem when I use disk images created on previous operating systems. For some reason it's taking about a minute to transfer 40mb to these folders. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It happens with both sparsebundle and DMG, and I've tried various partition settings, including hard disk, CD/DVD, Apple partition map, as well as no partition map.

  • VERY slow data transfer to my hard drive attached to the Airport Extreme

    Hi
Ive got a Macbook Pro and Mac Pro. In order to access large files from both I got a 2TB drive connected to my Airport Extreme and it shows up fine in both Macs under SHARED.
When I copy files from and to that harddrive from my Macbook Pro its impressively fast. Seems as fast as a USB stick.
However when I try to do the same with my Mac Pro its extremely slow. A 1GB file takes about 15 minutes.
Are there any settings that I might have overlooked on the Mac Pro?
    Thanks
    Jorg

This won't be of any help for you , but I happen to have the exact same problem. My AEBs is linked to a LaCie external HD, my wireless network include a macmini aluminum, a Macbook Air, a MacBook Pro, a MacPro Dual-COre Intel 2.66 GHz. . Everything works fine expect for the MacPro which is painfully slow to get data to and from. The MacPro Airport Card is of the Airport Extreme type (0x14E4, 0x87), like my other macs…
I use WPA2 with a n protocol to connect to the base station.
Still at a loss about this issue, wonder how to solve it…

  • XP to XP slow data transfer - WRT54GP2

I have two XP sp3 machines in my network. Data transfer between them caps at 1Mbps. This is very odd since both machines have tested at speedtest.net at 15M down and 1M up. Why is my network transfer so slow? What can i try.
A little about my network. All cable is new cat 5e. There are 10/100 NIC's in each machine set to auto negotiate. I have tried setting the NIC's to 100 Full Duplex with no success. Both machines have static IP's assigned. All anti-virus and firewalls are off. Both machines are on the same workgroup and can see each other.
Cable modem connects to a Linksys WRT54GP2 router with built in 10/100 switch. I assume it "auto negotiates" since i cannot find a setting for it.
Machine "A" connects from router through a set of Netgear HDX101 Powerline HD Ethernet Adapters then to the machine. I have also tried bypassing the Powerlines and transferring the data over WIFI. I only get up to 1.5 MB/s transfer speed. My WIFI says im getting 54 MB/s. I was hopping to see near 25 MB/s at least.
Machine "B" connects directly to the router via cat 5e.
I also have a MacBook on network too. It's wifi also suffers from the same transfer rate. If the xp-xp fix doesn't also fix the MacBook i will open a new post about it.
I have read ssoooo much about similiar issues to what im having. im really hoping on of you can help. thanks.

The Internet Speed Test and the Data Transfer Speed are the 2 different Things, You Internet Speed is nothing related to your Data Transfer Speed between your Computers. As GV suggested you, connect the Cross Over cable between your computers and assign a Static IP to your both the computers and then transfer the data between your computer and check at what speed the data transfer speed is going on.

  • Slow Data Transfer on Server 2012 R2 Essentials - Can't Disable SMB Signing

I've seen several solve their slow file transfer rates by disabling SMB signing (that is, workstations connected to the server can move files from folder to folder, but it takes forever, whereas if one is logged onto the server through a third-party client
(like TightVNC), one can easily move files from folder to folder--no delay).
I thought I'd do the same as one of my clients is suffering this problem.
Unfortunately, the necessary items ("Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)" and "Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)") are greyed out and I can't disable them. I'm logged in
    under the administrator account.
    Is there another work around?

    Hi MarKomus,
    à
Unfortunately, the necessary items ("Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)" and "Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure
channel data (always)") are greyed out and I can't disable them. I'm logged in under the administrator account.
Based on your description, I understand that you want to configure those two group policy settings in client
computer, and then find that they were greyed out and can't be disable.
Just addition, please logon your Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials via Administrator account. Then open Group
Policy Management Editor and follow the path: Computer Configuration-> Policies-> Windows Settings-> Security Settings-> Local Policies-> Security Options, then please check if that two policy settings had been defined and configured in the
    DC.
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Data Transfer Issue from R/3 Prod to BW Prd

    Hello All,
We have recently connected our BW PRD system to  R/3 PRD system.
During data transfer its giving an Message " Error Opening an RFC Connection"
So we have to go to the Transact RFC mode & Forcefully transfer the data.
we have given below profiles to the ALEREMOTE & BIWREMOTE users in R/3 & BW
    SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW, S_BI-WHM_RFC, S_BI-WX_RFC, S_RS_ALL
Any thing is missing, please let us know
    Regards
    Lalan

    Hi,
If you are using SAP R/3 Plug-In 2004.1
For BIWREMOTE profile S_BI-WHM_RFC (Business Information Warehouse, RFC user in the Warehouse) is sufficient to extract the data.
For ALEREMOTE profile SAP_ALL covers all authorizations.
Check following configurations for both systems
    • RFC connections
    • ALE settings
      Partner profiles
      Port
      IDoc types
      IDoc segments
    • BW settings
All the above configuration is fine, still you are facing same problem check the OSS note: 150315

  • New mac pro recognises usb 2.0 as 1.0 - super slow data transfer!

updated my new mac pro 3.5 GHz 6-core intel xeon E5 to mac OS 10.9.2 today.
all periphals (standalone hubs, hubs in monitors, harddisks) are now recognised not as is (USB 2.0) but as USB 1.0 (ie transfer rate 12 Mbit/s), no matter whether they are plugged into a port of the mac pro directly or thru a hub. i do not get anything done anymore!
any advice how to get back to USB 2.0?
    thank you!

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Slow data transfer via gpip from tek scope

I have tds 1012 scope, we are trying to tranfer the waveform from the scope real-time. The time required for the transfer is about 400ms, however the data is generation is once in 100ms. This means that we are missing 3/4 of the data. Is there any way to get around this problem.

    Hello,
I did not understand very well the problem. How much data do you want to transfer in one second? The GPIB would communicate at the rate the instrument needs if you are configuring everything ok. If the data in the scope cannot be transferred at the desired rate then the only thing is to store the data into a file or into a buffer in the computer and then analyze it. If what is happening is that the scope does generate the data but the GPIB doesnt communicate it at the desired rate, what could be happening is that you might be opening and closing a GPIB or VISA session every time you read and that is not efficient because there is a lot of time lost . What you need to do is open the session once, then have in a loop the read or write and outside the
loop close the session. So open and close are outside.
You can also check if you can set a bigger buffer in the instrument so the data will not be lost, but remember that the amount of data that can be transferred with GPIB is huge so that shouldnt be the problem. I think the problem is the way your program reads the data or by the some setting in your instrument.
    Hope this helps

  • Slow data transfer to USB External Drive - Help

I'm running the WD MyBook Essential 160GB via 2.0 on an iMac FlatPanel 1GHz running OSX 10.4.7.
    Questions:
    1. I want to both (a) back-up my 80GB HD for on a regular basis in case of emergencies and also off-load media files (Mainly movies/photos) I may want to access later but don't want on my internal drive taking up space. Is there any recommended software that will do both? Do I need to partition the external drive to do this, i.e. one side for the back-up and one side for media file storage?
    2. I stupidly bought the USB2.0 version of MyBook when I should have got the FW. Is there a way to make transfers faster? The transfer rate is unbelievably slow. Is there any reason that transfer of 10G would take almost all night?
    Thanks for any help.

Assuming the internal drive of your USB case is Parallel IDE/ATA, this is all you need at $46 + shipping:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/MacAlly/PHR100AF/
If it is SATA, this is what you'd need, at $60 + shipping:
    http://www.cooldrives.com/combo-sata-drive-enclosure-firewire-and-usb.html
To tell the difference between SATA and Parallel IDE see these images of the back of the hard drive which I got off the Newegg store website for SATA (images are reduced for typical web browser page size, but still show the importance of the difference between the ports): and Parallel IDE .
I might add some SATA hard drives have the 4 pin power connector you see on the right of Parallel IDE drives in addition to the standard SATA power connector. Don't let this confuse you.

  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds Between Macs.

    Hello Can anyone please help?
When I transfer data between my MacBook and iMac it is taking ages and never used to be this slow a couple of months ago.
A 1 GB file is taking 2 hours. I am using an Airport Extreme 802.11n router on 5GHZ Wide Channel and when I check my connection using Network Utility it says 270 MBit/s.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Shaun

I am having a very similar issue. I am copying iTunes music to a USB flash drive formatted to FAT32.  It is very slow - not as slow as you have indicated, but still very slow. Someone mentioned it could be Spotlight indexing the USB drive. I am going to turn indexing off and try again - although it is taking a long time just to stop the current copy that I had in progress.

  • PX1267E-1G32 HDD 320GB - slow data transfer

    Ok here's the thing!!
I connected my HDD to the computer and I get this message: this driver can perform faster blah blah blah !.... blah
Although on my computer all USB ports are 2.0. Its a laptop that I bought last year and if I connect the HDD on other computers it works fine just not on mine.
I connected other HDDs on my computer they all work extremely fine!
So what should I do? Please help me because I need to back up my data and if the transfer is slow... it'll take years.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
A suggestion would be to update your chipset drivers. Could you please tell me which Toshiba model and which operating system is on your machine?
In most cases the tosh notebooks have a Intel chipset, so if you have one (you can check this by going into device manager and looking under "System devices" - if you have an intel chipset then many entries with "intel" should be there) then visit www.intel.com and download the latest chipset software.
Install it and give a feedback if it worked.

  • File Sharing Problem and slow data transfer

    Hi,
i just receive my MBP a few weeks ago and i wanted to transfer some data with a friend who has a MacBook. I tried to share a folder and it cold not be seen by the MB as guest login. i checked the permission when i add the folder to the file sharing as read only. Second problem i had is more intriguing...finally a i decide to log in as Me with the MB, and then i saw my folder shared. he copy the stuff he need it with an acceptable speed. He shared a folder to me the same way i tried and it works!! but the more frustrating was to see how slow was the transfer from the MB to my MBP. Can find any explication...any suggestion???? please !!

slowness of wireless transfer speeds could have something to do with your access point/wireless router.... if you have bad bars on your airport card then try moving closer to the signal.
also what is that total size of the files you are trying to move to each laptop?
i remember when i transferred a fair amount of MP3's it did take a little bit of time....
