Slow down and crashing macbook pro

my macbook pro has suddenly been acting erratically, slowing down and occassionally crashing. I ran etrecheck to provide the data and would welcome any insight.

morrisroe,
were any of the crashes due to GPU panics?
It looks like something has modified your /etc/hosts file — do you know which of your apps has done that?
Did you ensure that all of your installed third-party apps are compatible with Mavericks before upgrading to Mavericks?
Your Silverlight plug-in is out of date; you can download the latest version (5.1.30317.0) from here.

  • Sudden slow-down of my MacBook Pro

I have experienced a recent significant slowdown on my MacBook Pro.  Since it occurred soon after I finally got around to loading Yosemite, I was concerned that the new OS was a bit too much for the 5yr old laptop.  I found an older (long!) thread that recommended etrecheck and post the results in a new discussion.  I know there are some things I need to clean up too.
    Problem description:
Sudden and significant unexplained slow-down of my MacBook Pro.  I get a lot of spinning pinwheels just opening and closing applications.

Back up your Mac if you have not done so already. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
Update OS X. Version 10.10.3 is the current release. To learn how to update OS X read Update OS X and App Store apps on your Mac - Apple Support.
Remove the following garbage from your Mac.
    "MacKeeper"
    "Sophos"
    "Symantec / Norton"
    "Trusteer Rapport"
Your Mac cannot operate properly with those products installed.
One or more of the following support documents may be applicable:
Uninstall Norton Internet Security for Mac
Removing Symantec programs for Macintosh by using the RemoveSymantecMacFiles removal utility
    RemoveSymantecMacFiles
    http://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x
    http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/120838.aspx
Verify their complete and permanent eradication from your Mac. Don't use any other techniques to get rid of them.
"Carbonate" is known to run poorly on Macs.
    "App4Mac" is outdated and obsolete.
    Other problems may be present.
You need to become much more circumspect regarding the software you choose to install. I apologize if that comes across as blunt, but you appear to have been exerting quite some effort in an attempt to prevent your Mac from working the way it's supposed to work.

  • MBP slowed down and crashes

Hello, I have MacBook pro Mid 2012. After update to Mavericks, my laptop really slowed down, started crashing, lagging, especially Safari, Launchpad have lags, in general video performace is bad, also Activity Monitor shows that browser takes 100% CPU, temperatures are higher in comparison to Mountain Lion.
Resetting SMC, PRAM and reinstall don't help.

OK, so I booted OS X Recovery and Disk Utility - according to it, everything is fine.

Then, I started in Safe Mode and still there was poor graphic? video? performance, I understand that it shouldn't be perfectly smooth, but there was weird flashing, crashing and stuff. Photo:
You can see some of it (it's from Safari, but for example Launchpad is even worse). It's like that all the time in Safe Mode. I don't know if that's normal.
And I did SMC reset again, but it also didn't help.
Oh and apps often crash when I first start them, but then, I repeat action and they open.
Funny story, Mavericks should improve performance, better video memory and ram, but I'm experiencing completely different story.

  • Macbook keeps slowing down and crashing

    Hi,
I started having this problem about 2 weeks ago. Everything was working fine, then out of nowhere, my macbook froze. I waited for about 10 minutes, then I turned it off. When I turned the computer back on, it was EXTREMELY slow. It took 15 minutes just to boot, and after that, even when i just moved the cursor, the rainbow wheel would appear and keep spining for 20 minutes. It was impossible to do anything. So I decided to restore the hard drive from a backup I had. After I did that, it worked fine for a couple hours, then the same thing happened. Then I did some research and concluded that my hard drive was dying, so I got a new one, restored it from my backup and replaced my old hard drive. But after a few hours same thing happened again.
So I know the problem is not related to the hard drive. Also, I everything seems to work fine when I boot from an external hard drive. Only when I replace and boot from the internal hard drive connection, the slow down occurs and eventually gets to a point where I can't do anything with my computer. Sometimes I can repair it using the disk utility and diskwarrior, but it doesn't last long, eventually it starts slowing down again and then the same thing happens. The operating system doesn't make any difference either. It happens both with Leopard and Snow Leopard.
I'd appreciate it if anyone knows what would be causing this problem.
    Thank you.

How much free space on the drive?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
I have more than 50% free disk space. I did have some slowing down problems before because of disk space, but this time it's different. It's not a regular kind of slowin down, it slows down so much that it becomes imposible to do anything. Even when I just move the cursor, rainbow wheel appears and doesn't go away for 10 minutes.
    But thank you anyway.

  • Connection drops/slows down on new Macbook Pro but works perfectly on older

    Hello,
I have 3 Macbook Pro's and one AirPort Extreme (bought dec 2008), *all has been working flawlessly* for a year until about two-three weeks ago.
    *This is what happens:*
_Old Macbook Pro (2007)_ - *Works perfectly 100% of the time*, always at least 20mbit/s connection
    _New Macbook Pro 15" (2009)_ - *Drops/slows down*, sometimes fast 20mbit/s sometimes slow 0.01mbit/s
    _New Macbook Pro 13" (2009)_ - *Drops/slows down*, sometimes fast 20mbit/s sometimes slow 0.01mbit/s
_iPhones (2G/3G/3GS)_ - *All Work perfectly 100% of the time*
*I have reset the Airport Extreme 20 times* and tried the latest firmware 7.4.2 without luck. I have *even downgraded* to several other types of firmware. But problems still remain. This is doing my head in since I cannot any longer use the Airport Extreme with the newer MBP's.
So, only the new macs seem to have this problem. But the strange thing is that my older computer works 100% all the time!!!
_*Has my Airport Extreme broken or is anyone else having this problem?*_

I seem to have found a temporary solution. If I change the DHCP address series from 10.0.1.X to 192.168.0.X it works for about a week. Then it starts to drop/slow down again. So I use airport utility to again change it back to 10.0.1.X and it works for another week.. And on it goes.. This is so strange I can hardly believe it.

  • Yosemite update slowed down my 2012 macbook pro

Since i've uploaded the Yosemite Update, my Macbook Pro (2012) is running slow and make my laptop unusable. It takes more than 2 minutes to open a word document and bug every time i’m trying to open a new website on any internet application (safari, google chrome).
Here's my etrecheck, could someone help me find out how i can make my mac work well again pleaseee ?

  • Error and crash Macbook pro retina

I'm using Macbook Pro retina approximately twice
a day does not respond dramatically to manipulation of the mouse and then the screen goes white and then restored with a picture window and the power button is written in multiple languages has been a mistake, press any button I press Poppy climbs the window is restored and that the maximum error due to the restored and what needs to send report to Apple. Started this idiocy about two weeks after purchase poppy. What is it and how to fix it? Thanks in advance. I think this is either due to battery or because the system (I think Leo is installed after you upgrade to the mountain lion is gone) or because of installed updates before they install it worked fine. I have moved the resolution to 1680x1050 on the Retina and everything works fine until I feel bad that the lion adapted to new hardware.

I would return the unit to your local Apple Store or AASP. What you describe is not normal, no matter which version of OS X you are running. You're having crashes, kernel panics, screen problems, etc. It needs to be returned to be fixed or replaced.

  • Area Man Breaks Down And Buys MacBook Pro

Little Rock AR-- A joyous "Whoo-Hoo" was heard throughout the North Little Rock neighborhood of Argenta Friday night when local Mac addict placed his order for a refurbed MPB 2.5. The computer has shipped already and is expected to arrive on Friday. When asked why he finally did it he responded--
"My fiance pretty much took over my MacBook and my DP G5--love it as I may--doesn't fit so well in a briefcase. I also figured, hey--I'm doing all this FCP stuff now and it sure would be nice to work on some edits and motion graphics while on the job."
This self-proclaimed Mac addict said he only has one question as he awaits its arrival.
"I am just wondering if I can clone my 10.5 partition from my PPC G5 to my new Intel MBP. I am going to turn to the other kick-a$$ Mac addicts on Apple discussions and hopefully someone else has tried it with success. That's one of the cool things about being all things Apple--unlike PC people--Mac People openly and willingly share vital operational information to better the community."
We will follow this story as it develops. Area man claims he should have several responses within 24 hours.

Hi, Area Man. No, I'm afraid you can't usefully clone a PowerPC Mac's hard drive into your new MBP. The PPC OSX build on it won't run the Intel MBP. A better choice is to use Migration Assistant to bring over your Users folder, capturing all your documents, settings and preferences. You can also migrate your Applications folder, though there's a fair chance that some of your apps won't run or will need to be updated for compatibility with the Intel processor. The fact that you're already running Leopard on the G5 reduces the likelihood of OS version compatibility issues considerably. If you were migrating from a computer running OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x, there would probably be more of those.
That said, I used Migration Assistant to migrate my Users and Applications from an old Titanium Powerbook G4 running 10.3.9 to my new MBP without a lot of problems. I did have to go through every one of my applications and find out whether each one still worked in Leopard or needed to be updated (or upgraded for $) before I was out of the woods, but I did that and everything is fine now. Fortunately none of my old application versions actually caused a crash, freeze or lockup: the ones that didn't work just didn't work, and I was able to Quit or Force Quit them gracefully.
If you use anything in Classic mode on the G5, remember that you won't be able to do so on the MBP.

  • Slow downs and Crashes--Remove IE8

If you recently have upgraded to Internet Explorer (Exploder?) 8 you might want to roll it back or just remove it and go with Firefox.  The Kaspersky Labs has been suggesting this to their customers.

There were times when Terminal showed 100% CPU usage. Also during the test I crashed iPhoto as I tried to quit the program.
If I understand what I am looking at in Terminal I am overwhelming my CPU. Is that correct?
If so, I see the only fix is to open less programs at one time or buy a newer, bigger, faster MacBook. Is that analysis correct?

    Does anyone has any idea?

Your RMI server invokes a JNI method as you mentioned. It seems your system resource is become very low as from the exception from "ZoneInfoMappi"
(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service...I would suggest the following
1- remove the JNI method invocation and replace by a simple method which does nothing special ( counting etc..)
2- Run the RMI sever and stress test it again
If you see the RMI server is working well after 12 hours, then your native method is leaking i.e consuming the system resources ( RAM etc..)
You should profile the running RMI server using jconsole

  • Adobe Reader 8.1 causing slow down and crashes

Despite safely using 7.0 for years, when I updated to 8.1, my computer slowed to a snail's pace and froze frequently, more than hourly. I have definitely traced the problem to Adobe Reader 8.1 (8.1.2?)because the problems disappeared the several times I uninstalled it. I am now using 7.0 without any problems. Does any one have an idea what the problem is? Can I ever safely upgrade to Version 8?

Im not sure if I need to format the hard drive, replace an internal part like the connector of the hard drive to the logic board or the new hard drive is broken.

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton
