Slow down mac book pro
hello
My mac book pro is running very slow
I have downloaded norton/symantec antivirus but it does not show any virus issue
I have performed a disk utility repair but it did not point out anything
I have performed a disk utility permissions repair which showed a lot of things to be corrected but still no improvement
I have then downloaded Etrecheck and here is below its results, could you tell me what to do? (apart from Time machine which I am upgrading right now)
Not sure why I have some many disks under Disk information too...
Thank you!

You need to get rid of Norton. It is notorious for causing problems on the Mac, and isn't much good at detecting Mac malware anyway. Uninstall it. To do that, you will need to run the installer again, which will offer to uninstall it since Norton is already installed. If you no longer have the installer, you will need to re-download it.
If you continue to have problems after removing Norton, see my Mac Performance Guide for further suggestions. Note that, aside from Norton, I see no other third-party software loading at startup that is likely to cause the problem.

I am wondering if your hard drive is failing? You might try downloading and running SMART Utility on it:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It is somewhat more critical than Disk Utility, and may give you earlier warning of impending drive failure.
You might also want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test and see if you get any error codes.
From the way your hard drive is behaving, it sounds to me like there is something wrong with it. Since reinstalling the OS doesn't solve anything, you are likely dealing with some sort of a hardware issue.
Good luck! -
I have problem shutting down mac book pro os x lion
I have setup os x lion on my mac book pro which i bought after 2010. Over 90% when i want to shut down, the process stop at the end and rounding circle appear for so long that i should turn off the system by pressing and holding power bottom. I do verify and repair the disk permission and for a while it is ok and after some times it is the same story. I even download and install the lion again but nothing happened. As i read over the apple forum some other has the same prob but no one knows how to fix. Smebody tells that it is belong to safari and other mention some other things. Pls kindlly help me.

Gone a litle slower on mac book pro
Does anybody can see any reason why my mac book pro retina is a liitle slow here is the copy of Etrecheck......thanks
Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? When did it start to be slow? Did you change anything just before it started? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup. -
Will it slow down Mac book aluminium with Mountain lion?
I m very interested with new os of Mountain Lion and i consider to upgrade it. But I really concren about will it slow down my current Mac Book Aluminium? As I have upgraded to 4GB RAM.
You'll need to wait until it's released for the various groups that benchmark new systems to run the comparison tests. Macworld.com is pretty good about that.

FCP 7 update has slowed my Mac Book Pro
Hi all
First post here. I've just upgraded to FCP 7/ Studio 3 on my MBP running Leopard 10.5.8
When I open FCP it takes an age to load, and it is impossible to use the software, it's like running high end software on a low end PC, sluggish isn't the word!
I have 2 gigs of ram, FCP 6 worked fine. Has anyone else suffered from this or have any advice??
ThanksI purchased the upgrade and simply ran It and installed it - FCS2 was already installed, but being an upgrade I assume this is right?
I did this on my mac pro with no problems, studio 3 runs fine. On the laptop it is un-useable -
I just bought my macbook pro, and my internet is moving really slow. Especially when viewing videos on youtube, even litening to previews on itunes. Ans no its not my internet, my PC works fine. Please let me know any suggestions.

I just bought my macbook pro,
You are still under warranty. Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years. You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired. -
Toshiba Stor.e basics 1TB Extremely slow on Mac Book pro
Hi,
I've just bought a Toshiba Stor.e basics 1TB and it's extremely slow, it's taken around a day and still 2 are pending to conclude a copy of less than 100 gigas, 3days!!!
I've tried formating it with FAT32 and MacOs Plus, same results, what's wrong with this product?
/JaviThat doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

how can i fix my mac book pro i bought in mid 2010, it is slowing down. the pin wheel does spin a alot.
try this;
open disk utility - verify disk permissions - repair disk permissions if errors are found. might take an hour or less - depending on how much errors needs to be repaired.
restart your macbook and see if that sorts it out for you.
also check your hard drive space. if your hard drive is almost full, that will also contribute to your macbook getting slower....
good luck -
Hello, I'm pretty sure my fan on my 2009 mac book pro has stopped running. Would this cause the computer to slow down and take for ever to boot up and show the color wheel every time I select an application ? how involved to replace fan ? cost ?
thanksNot directly, but if the CPU overheats because of incompatible software, that would cause slowdowns. Do not allow the computer to run if the fan is not working unless you wish to fry your motherboard. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

Adobe slowed down after running fine on a Mac Book Pro Photoshop settings have been reset
adobe slowed down after running fine on a Mac Book Pro. Adobe Settings have been Reset
Hello Gener7,
I did try everything on the FAQ page (all steps) I also did them a few more times with "Adobe help" walking me through 2 more times. I just don't get it, I have been on with Adobe on some days up to 5 hours at a time for over a month now. I think it must be something with the installation disc but they say no, no, switchboard is just not working on my OS X 10.9.4. I even took the computer into the apple store here and had them look it over, reinstall everything and they say it's the Adobe software.
Thank you very much for your help, it's nice to know someone is reading this :-) I do work around this by saving the files and reopening them in the next program I need but everyone in class is always waiting on me, (it sucks) and I just think it should work. Hope you have a good day and I will put an update on here if this is ever figured out.
Thanks one more time :-) -
i purchased new mac book pro exactly one year back, upgraded to mountain lion few months back, since last few days it ahs slowed down so much that it is difficult to work on the same. last programme i used for cleaning was iBoostup. pl. help me in speeding the mac.
"Cleaning" apps are useless - there's no need to clean anything from your Mac (save for files that you no longer use). OS X does a very good job of maintenance.
See ds store's Why is my computer slow? Some excellent tips there.
