Slow download on network with fast upload.

I just recently purchased a 24" iMac and I'm having networking issues. I connect to my PC server and see all the files just fine. The problem is, when I try and copy anything off of the server or read files off the server in programs like InDesign CS4, the network slows down completely. When I take a 500mb file and upload it to the same server, it uploads it at the normal gigabit speeds. Taking that same 500mb file and try and copy it back off, it takes hours.
I also have a Mac based ftp server running Rumpus. If I connect to the ftp mac directly and download a file, it's very slow, but if I use Cyberduck or the web-based downloader, it downloads at Gigabit speeds.
It seems anything I try and copy directly off the servers, or work on files that reside on the server it is very, very slow. I have an older Intel iMac 20" right next to the new one and it still reads the network just fine. Copies and uploads very fast to the same server. I set up the custom IP address, DNS servers, etc. the same on both machines and this new iMac is not working well on the network.
A couple of years ago I purchased another Intel iMac 20" that had similar problems on the network. After weeks of the Apple Store checking it out, they told me that the network controller chip went bad. Could this possibly happen again on another iMac?
I could really use some help on this. If I need to take this new iMac to the Apple Store to get checked out I will, but if it might be just a setting somewhere I'm missing, I'd rather deal with that.
Thanks

Thanks for all the help I have received from everyone out there in cyberlandia, like it was alot.
I solved my problem on my own and what a feeling. I tweaked the IPv4 settings by ending the numbers in an even number instead of an odd number (.172, .174 ,.176 etc). Sort of stumbled onto this but it worked as my download speeds were 6kbps when I started and went up to 750 kbps shortly afterwards. I am in South America and our internet connections are slow compared to the States. Wish I could get a 5 meg download speed but that is not going to happen. 750kbps (@ $90 per month) is a joy compared to the dial up I had.

  • Slow Download on new iMac Fast on old Ti Book

    I have three computers on a AEBS, iMac 2.4 802.11N, MacBook 2.2 802.11N and an old Ti Book 400 with a Belkin USB wireless modem 802.11G. While trying to download the OSX 10.5.2 combo 343 megs the other day, I noticed that it was going to take 14 hours on my IMac 802.11N and when I checked out the TI book using Speed download, it was going to take 1 hour 20 mins for 340 meg file. The upgrade was downloading at 85 kbps on the Ti Book and 6 kbps on the iMac 802.11N I downloaded it on the Ti Book and indeed it took just less than two hours. I tried downloading the 10.5.2 on the iMac twice and it would get to 289 megs both times and quit after an all night run.
    Must be set up wrong or the Belkin USB wireless device is a super piece of equipment. Any one seen this problem?

  • Slower download after network upgrade

    Hi,
    I received an email from BT stating the following:
    Good news. We’re rolling out our faster broadband and we’ll be upgrading our network in your area on 06-Aug-10. This’ll make the things you do online quicker.
    Before the upgrade I was achieving a connection speed of approx. 7000/448 kbps. A few days after the upgrade I did see a brief improvement of around 7700/872 kbps. However for the last week or so I seem to be firmly planted at 5463/782 kbps.
    Is there anything I should do to improve this?

  • Bezier warp expression - slowing amplitude and velocity with fast decay

    I've been working with an expression from Dan Ebberts Vibrating strings which I have modified to create a bending effect on a solid shape
    This part is applied to a slider expression of the solid
    veloc = 14;
    amplitude = -250;
    decay = 4;
    amplitude*Math.sin(veloc*time)/Math.exp(decay*time)
    Then a bezier warp has been applied to the solid shape to the Bottom Right Tangent and Bottom Left Tangent
    value + [0,effect("Slider Control").param("Slider")]
    This works very well except that I would like to be able to have the amplitude of the bending shape slow down as it bends and then snap back quickly in the decay but  I'm not sure how to accomplish this.  I have tried playing with the settings that I have, but am unable to make this work.
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Ira

    I'm not sure what you're describing exactly. The expression you're using generates a damped sine wave. What would the new waveform look like? Would it be the same except eased so the the wave spends more time close to the extremes and less time transitioning, or something else entirely?
    You could build your own, triple-eased periodic waveform like this, but I'm not sure it's what you're after:
    veloc = 14;
    amplitude = -250;
    decay = 4;
    period = (Math.PI*2)/veloc;
    t = (time+period/4)%period;
    if (t < period/2)
      v = ease(t,0,period/2,-1,1)
    else
      v = ease(t,period/2,period,1,-1);
    v = ease(v,-1,1,-1,1);
    v = ease(v,-1,1,-1,1);
    amplitude*v/Math.exp(decay*time)

  • IPad air has slow download when mirroring with Apple tv

    my iPad Air freezes and is virtually not watchable when mirroring with my Apple tv. I can watch any programmes on my iPad without any problem but as soon as I try to mirror, the speed seems so slow and it freezes. I have reset my iPad and also my Apple tv. If I do a speed test without the mirroring, I get around 20-29. A speed test with mirroring is less than 1. Apple support go around in circles and cannot resolve my issue. Can anyone else help?

    Re-starting the iPad and Apple TV only works for 4 or 5 more connections, it then fails to mirror yet again, the sound is OK! just the screen goes blank and the iPad slows up...tried everything!...this only began to happen since the IOS7 upgrade, we are now at IOS 7.0.4 and Apple has still not fixed this problem...surely I can' tube the only user having this problem...

  • Slow download performance with windows 7 on Cisco 2960S

    has someone experience with the the windows 7 on Cisco 2960S.
    One customer had the issue with very slow download rate ( 500kByte) with 100MB / full duplex and  default tcp paramenter under win 7 with IOS 12.2.55SE1.
    No error was seen.
    The change of follwing in windows improve the performance a litte bit to 1-2 MByte.
    no compression, no tcp windowing, no received side scaling, no windows side heuristic, no checksum offloading and a smaller MTU size than default.
    After update the Switch to 12.2.55.SE2 the performance imporve to 4-12 MByte.
    Has someone an idea about the chances in IOS 12.2.55SE2. I cant find anything in RN about this issue.
    Best regards
    Steffen

    I have the same issues in WS-C2960G-48TC-L  . my downloads dropped in my lan from 2 mb/s to 100kb/s in all operating systems including linux workstations . my ios version is 12.2(44)SE5 in 2960 switches .
    i have 2 x 4503-E L3 and 14 2960-48TC-L switches but i can not access the new ios versions to test if the issue is coming from ios version because of end of support .
    can someone ensure that the new ios remove this issue ?

  • Slow Download/Good Upload?

    The trouble started this morning. Web pages take a long time to open. So, I did a broadband speed test at http://www.speedtest.net/ to find that the download speed is around 700 kbps while the upload speed is about 250 kbps. I am using a 8mbps broadband connection. My MacBook is (3.1 / Core 2 Duo / 2.2 GHz / 4GB RAM / running 10.5.1 leopard).
    The strange thing is this is not the case with my wife's MacBook (1.1 / Core Duo 2.0 GHz / 2GB RAM / running 10.5.1 Leopard). This Mac registrest about 8500 kbps download speed and 650 kbps upload speed.
    We are connecting to the same Wireless router, with WAP2 and "g" standard.
    What could be the problem?
    Tried deleting the folder Caches in /System/Library/Extensions
    Tired deleting all .plist files that start with com.apple.internet...
    Removed WiFind
    Reset Safari
    Zapped PRAM
    Tried with another user account
    Turned the Wireless router on and off
    Haven't had problems sharing files wirelessly between the Mac or playing musing from iTunes to the stere with AirPort Express Base Station, which is connected to the same network.
    Any advice to fix this would be much appreciate...

    To give an update, I also tried making a Safe Boot. Still same.
    In fact, I did a check on the file transfer between the two Macs.
    Haven't had problems playing music from iTunes to the stereo with AirPort Express Base Station, which is connected to the same network. However, I sense that transferring files to the other Mac wirelessly is faster compared to transferring the same sized file from the other Mac to this one.
    Any advice? Could it be a problem with the AirPort Extreme card? If so, how do I find out?

  • Very slow downloads Network test says "can't connect to Apple"

    Have a 1st generation ATV and it has been working great for years until now. When I have slow downloads so I go to "Test Network" and it fixes the problem, but not any more. Now it says "can't connect to Apple"
    Funny thing is it can connect but it is very very slow!
    I have tried most everything I can think of this has got me stumped!
    -- Speed test on my network shows I am getting 12 Mb/s download speeds with Comcast cable
    -- using an Apple Airport extreme
    -- I have NOT done any changes to my network
    -- Have done a factory reset on ATV
    -- rebooted my Airport
    -- Made sure all my updates have been done
    -- Hooked ATV up with ethernet cable to network that just seemed to make to worse! strange?
    -- look all very the boards
    Does any one have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I have the same experience, i.e., "Test Network" used to improve slow downloads, but now when I attempt it, the test download progress bar moves, but then I get the "can't connect to Apple" error message. I have not yet found a solution to this, however it may be related to the following problem:
    ATV does not remember wireless network password.
    ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
    I am having to re-enter the wireless network password every time the ATV starts up, and sometimes during startup it appears to be in a Catch-22 situation where it is trying to access the network but cannot because it has not yet let me manually enter the password, so it spends a long time with amber or amber plus white light blinking, and then more time with solid white light before finally showing the startup sequence, about half an hour after being switched on.
    See post about password problem at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13182180#13182180, which also lists my equipment.

  • Very slow download speed with intermittent halts

    Need some help.
    I run Apple os/x latest version and have since yesterday begun to experience constant very slow download speeds.

  • E1200 - only 54 mbps Wi-FI with 801.11n notebook and slow download

    Hi all,
    I have got the E1200 router and Asus X54H notebook (Win XP SP3, 2.30 Ghz, 3 MB RAM).
    I have configured the router properly, created the Wifi network, and when I put the cursor on the wifi network sign I see only 54 Mpbs signal. The router is located RIGHT NEAR the notebook.
    Moreover, when I download from torrents with about 40-50 seeds, I get only 700-900 kbps download.
    With my old 54 mbps b/g router and notebook I had about 2 mpbs download speed.
    For Your info. I plugged the cable from router LAN port to notebook (cable connection) and did the Speedtest.net.
    Here are the results:
    donwload speed :  46.84 mpbs
    upload speed: 26.81 mpbs
    The link: LINK
    So You see my cable channel is ok.
    Please help!  I will appreciate very much!

    Make sure your wireless encryption is WPA2-AES for speeds over 54Mbps.

  • Slower download than upload

    I've got two macs running 10.5.8, one is connected to my Airport Extreme "N" by ethernet and one by wireless. The one on ethernet is getting 20 mb download and 6 mb upload. My wireless which is in another room is getting 5 mb download and 6 mb upload.
    I can't figure why it would be possible to have faster upload than download. Any ideas? I've rebooted the machines, the modems, and base station. The Mini is connected by ethernet and the Macbook by wireless.

    Dunno.
    What happens if you use a wired connection with the 'book?

  • Is anyone with an iPhone 6plus experiencing slow downloads and problems streaming videos online?

    is anyone with an iPhone 6+ experiencing slow download and slow video streaming online? I have had the iPhone 6 Plus and I've been experiencing my app is downloading a lot slower and being unable to stream videos online

    I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this site. Three days apps will not update, iOS8.0. Support told me to update to iOS8.02. Can't do that over WIFI or Cell network. Supports tells me have to link to iTUNES and do this. That takes three trys. Did that. Apps still not updating. Read online that resetting network settings will help. Did that App's hanging and not updating.
    Apple how does this happen. Night before iOS8.0 release you pull things because of some security issue. Then you have iOS8.01 fiasco and now this. Can someone get this right. We use these things for more than just phones now. FIX IT

  • Slow download on iTunes (3 hours for 2 Go) whereas my internet download is fast ?

    I have a slow download on iTunes (around 3 hours for a HD 2 Go game of thrones episode) whereas my internet download is fast (average 15Mbps)?

    Bumping this topic again as it's still sort of bugging me, but the problem has been isolated to a few certain sites. On some i get the maximum speed and on others i get snailspeed. One of the slow ones unfortunately is basically anything that has to do with Apple....So all Quicktime movie trailers, iTunes stuff, movies etc are slow, except podcasts that are German. I'm downloading the 30 day trial of iWork and i'm getting whopping 19,2KB/s, when i should be getting about 1300KB/s. You can just imagine the frustration:/
    I'm just wondering am i alone on this or is anybody else excperienceing similar? And as usual, on windows i'm getting full speed all the time, anywhere, grrrr....!

  • New download of keynote files when changing wifi network with iPad

    When i change the Wifi Network with my ipad3 (without 3G) it always starts to download the keynote, numbers and pages files from the iCloud. You can't open any file until its downloaded again, you just see the Folder and the file as a placeholder.
    In my opinion this Akers totally no sense. I expect a synchronization between iPad and the iCloud like it woks with mail, kalender.  Even dropbox just downloads the file you select for use. In my case I have 64 files only in keynote, created on the iPad and eaven without changing something it will re download all files from the iCloud before I can use them.
    Anybodydid the same experience ?
    Is this a bug or a really shh.... Feature?

    No that's not my experience, it's clearly not working as it should. Perhaps you should restore your iPad.
