Slow downloading of movies on iPad 4

I am trying to download a movie I purchased on my iPad 4th Generation from my Amazon Prime membership.  I started downloading "The Dark Knight Rises" at 6:00 p.m.  Right now it is 12:11 a.m.  It has only downloaded 107 minutes, out of a two and-a-half hour movie.  My signal is at full strength.  Is there any way to speed up this process?  I am frustrated.  My Kindle Fire was so much faster than this.  What is wrong.  Please help

Hi paulsheehan!
I have an article for you here that can help you troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing a little further. That article is about troubleshooting video playback on your Apple TV, and can be found right here:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting playback performance

Additionally, you may need to optimize the settings on your router for use with Apple TV. We have an article outlining those settings right here:

how do a get a refund on a ridiculously slow downloading rented movie for my apple tv dispite a >5mb/sec down load speed? my first experience with appletv movie rental. no good. rented at 4:30pm. still waiting for standard def movie to finish at 8:10pm. Not good enough.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

    1. No
    2. You can only transfer a rental to an Apple TV 1, which Apple TV do you have.

  • Remove partially downloaded iTunes movie from iPad

I tried to download a movie to my iPad but the download stopped in the middle as there was not enough storage.  Now the partial movie is stuck on my iPad and I cannot remove it.  I have removed almost all data from my iPad to create more space but this hasn't helped.  When the iPad is connected to my Mac nothing shows in movies but there is a huge chunk of data showing in "Other" in the bar at the bottom.  When I try to manage storage on the iPad, the video app shows "no data".  I have looked at this problem in support communities and people have said that I must download the entire movie before I can delete it.  However, when I try to complete the download I still get message that there isn't enough available storage even though there is a lot of available space onthe iPad.  My iPad has iOS 7.0.4

what is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
    Summary
What is the Other on my iPhone? Now the Other is taking up 1.9GB space on iPhone 4, how can I remove it and release the space?

Symptom: Frankly I rarely cared about the free space on my iPhone until it ran out today and my iPhone 4 warned me to release some space. The first thing that I were considering initially was to delete some large game Apps. But when I connected to my computer, I noticed that a "Other" bar was consuming 2.5 GB of my iPhone's 13.57 GB. Does anyone know what the Other means on my iPhone?
Don't Miss: How Can I Transfer Music from iPhone to iTunes
What is taking up "Other" space on my iPhone
Analysis: Some of you may think the Other on your iPhone is the pure OS taken space or Safari, email temporary data. But that’s not the complete answer.
Part of that Other space on iPhone is taken up by iOS, the operating system running on your iPhone. For this part, this is no way to reclaim the free space from that. However, the Other part of iPhone storage space also contains sort of caches and temp files generated by App and iTunes syncs, and some of them won't be used long-term.
The size used by Other on your iPhone largely depends on the App you currently installed on the phone. The more caches and temp files created by Apps, the more space consumed by Other. And of course, it may slow your iPhone down.
Solution: it is hardly to put up with 2-3GB space taken by Other on iPhone, especially we even have no idea about what exactly it is. So to remove the Other, you can try to reclaim this space by doing a sync with iTunes; in other cases, you may have to go through a full backup and restore process.
Because iTunes is terribly slow and troublesome on Windows PC (Best iTunes Alternatives ), and every time we sync our iPhone with iTunes will take lot of time. So, alternatively, you can use an iPhone Cleaner program to remove their Other files on your iPhone.
PhoneClean is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch cleaner application, which is dedicatedly designed to free up space on iPhone; clean App cache, cookies, and history; sweep off media temp files, etc.

  • Cancel or delete partially downloaded rental movie on iPad... how?

I have a partially downloaded rental movie on my iPad in iTunes which I would like to cancel.
I have searched high and low, and it seems the only way I can do this is to connect to a computer which is not possible for me at this time. I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas on how I can achieve this?
Here are things I have already tried:
    - In the downloading section of iTunes, swiping left to write and selecting the delete button. Swiping does nothing, no delete button appears.
    - in Settings, General, Usage, Movies, choosing Edit and deleting... The movie doesn't appear in this section
If anybody can help, please do?
    - Ta, Krista.

I know i am replying to an old thread but thought someone else might find this useful. I paused the partial download, then wrote an email to Apple via the support link for iTunes store requesting that the download be removed from the queue explaining why ( in my case because i purchased HD instead of SD) and about 1 hour later received an email from Apple saying they cancelled my download and even offered me a refund. Not bad service I say.

  • Very Slow Downloading from iTunes on iPad Mini

    Hello:
Having just spent almost £550 on a wifi & cellular 64 gb iPad mini, I thought I was getting something that was state of the art !
However, I discover that the very first movie I pay for and want to download using my wifi connection from iTunes simply will not download on to my iPad mini in anything that one would expect to be a reasonable time.  As I write it is Sunday evening and the  iTunes download indicator is telling me it will be over 36 hours until I finish downloading this 3 gb movie !
Using the same wifi connection and within a few minutes after giving up with the iPad mini I am able to download the exact same movie on to my MacBook Air in under 30 minutes.
So, I conclude this has nothing to do with the my wifi download speed or anthing else, other than the fact that the iPad mini connection simply does not work at anything approximating to an acceptable standard.
The reason I have purchased the 64 gb iPad mini is so that I can download movies and watch them when travelling. It looks like this is not going to be possible if it is going to take hours and hours to download each movie !
So, other than some kind of self-administered help (which I would be happy to hear about if anybody has solved this problem for themselves), and after having spent a great deal of money on an item which is advertised as being iTunes compatible and being sold as something to watch tv and movies on, I wonder if Apple has yet twigged this glaring inadequacy and are thinking of doing something about it ?
After all, I have spent a lot of money on something that is not doing what I had expected it to do and which it is advertised as being able to do.
Please help me out, Apple, or I might have to return this to you and ask for my money back.  Or go to Trading Standards about misleading advertising ?  I mean it is wifi, it has iTunes, it has Videos - but I can't really use them in any acceptable way.  Why would I spend all that money for something that doesn't do what it says on the can ?
    Thanks.
    Chris

  • Can't open downloaded rental movies on ipad

I downloaded two movies. I see the picture of the movie in movies but when I click play it says movie won't download. What do I do.

Did you tap the "Music Videos" category at the top of the Videos page -- just under the time display? There are separate category buttons for each type video on your iPad, such as Movies, Music Videos, TV Shows, etc.

  • Can download HD movies on IPad 2 but not on Itunes??

Can anyone explain why I can buy HD movies on my IPad 2 and download them via wi-fi to the IPad, but I can't buy the same HD movie through my Itunes on my PC? I can only buy the SD version. I have even been able to start the download on the IPad, pause it and then get the download to start for the SD and HD versions on my PC. Then only the SD version download will complete. The HD version will continue to come up with an error around 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through the download and then restart from the beginning.
So far I have only downloaded one HD movie on the IPad and the movie has then transferred to Itunes on the PC and can be watched on the PC. It will also play from the PC on my Apple TV.
So why would Apple have things set up so you can only download it on the IPad via Wi-Fi and not on a PC via either Wi-Fi or a high speed cable? It would make life a lot easier to be able to set up Itunes to download my purchased movies (both in HD and SD) in the background of the PC, while I'm sitting working during the day, rather than only downloading the SD version and having to wait till I can get to a Wi-Fi connection with the IPad to download the HD version.
    Thank you for your time.

yes and it directs me to "settings" to manage my storage.  When I go there it's saying I have 4.8GB available on iCloud storage and about 4GB on the iPad.

I purchased a movie prior to release.  It is now available to download; however the link just takes me to the itunes page.  I downloaded Quick Time and still I am not able to find the " check available download" button on itunes.
Do anyone know how to download a movie that is purchased?

The Check For Available Downloads is on the Store drop-down menu
You might also be able to download it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage.
If you are doing it on your iPad then check the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it

  • HT1498 Slow Download of Movie Rental

We downloaded a movie Rental but it took 3 hours to download. We started at 8:30pm and it was finished at about 11:30pm. Our WIfi Signal strength is 5 Bars. We use Time Warner Cable for internet Connection.
1 Day later I tested the download and upload speeds at 10:30 pm. Our download speed was 492kbps.! I think I found the problem.  Other thaan changing Carriers and our times to download a movie rental, are there other actions we can take to improve our speeds?

Fernando, I look forward to reading someone's answer ( who's smarter than me) to your movie download dilemma.
My download issue was caused by Time Warner's daily (3:00AM) updates to their componets. Occasionally, (1 in 500 according to one of thier technicians) a cable/internet modem is "disturbed" by this update.
So even though we were paying for 40 mgps download speeds with our internet service we were getting 484 kbps download speeds for weeks.  Time Warner does not test thier equipment's speeds nightly, even though, I believe it is technically possible and practical with their existing equipment ( obviously a software change would be necessary).
By "resetting" the modem (ie. unplugging it from it's power source for 10 seconds) the "problem" was resolved.
I used Speedtest.net to "ping" Time Warner's server and then called (ie. Calmly but obviously furious) Time Warner with the results!
The moral of my story is: test the speed of your internet connection and contact your ISP to get the results for which you are paying!  If my story helps you, go get 'em...and get a discount!
I look forward to reading about the underlying cause of your movie download speeds.

  • HT201272 downloading a movie to IPad taking 24hrs how can you speed it up?

Downloading a movie purchase from ITunes store to Ipad3 is taking 24 hours. How can you speed it up?

First, try resetting your device. Press and hold both the home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds, until the screen turns off. Ignore the slider that will appear. Release the buttons, then press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears. This is the equivalent of a reboot, and should not affect your data or apps.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your device from backups, and if that doesn't help, restore it to factory settings (ie, do not restore a backup). See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If none of that helps, the issue is caused by some kind of hardware problem, and the device will need to be repaired or (more likely) replaced.

  • Very slow download for movie rental

Last nite (Valentine's!) my honey and I decided to watch our first movie with AppleTV. We chose the HD version of Ratatouille. I expected it to be about 10-20 minutes before we could start watching the movie (as the rest of it would download while we watched). Zzz..... After an hour only 6% had downloaded. What a disappointment! We cancelled our plans and watched boring TV instead. I know we have 30 days to watch the movie, but...
So my question is: "Why so slow?"
-- Slow or overloaded Apple servers?
-- Time Warner cable is throttling my download speed (normally I get 3 Mbps)?
-- My Airport Extreme (n-series) setup is choking?
    Any thoughts, gang?

Similar problem experienced last night (Feb 15 8pm ~ish) downloading a HD rental. I thought HD playback was supposed to take about 30 seconds from purchase while SD should be almost instantaneous. I have an 802.11G network and my download speed tests around 2MbPS. It took the movie about 20-25 minutes to download 4% of the movie at which time playback was enabled.
That's a lot faster than running out to Blockbusters but vexing nonetheless.
I assume the bottleneck is on the Apple video content servers, let's hope it improves otherwise it's back to Comcast OnDemand with it's instant playback yet crappy UI and playback control ( << || > >> ).

  • HT1657 My downloaded rental movie on iPad is gone.

    Hi,
I rented Skyfall the movie from iTunes. I transferred it to my iPad, but iPad had problems and the Apple store gave me a new iPad. The movie is now nowhere to be found. How can I download it again without paying for it? I never watched it.
    Thanks,
    John

Rentals are currently a one-time only download so you will need to contact iTunes Support - they should then grant you a re-download. Try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.
