Slow DSL performance NOT due to Verizon OR to DSL modem--BUT THE ETHERNET ROUTER

I don't participate in Forums usually, but stumbled on something that was VERY useful to me today, and think it might be helpful to others--it may already have been discovered before; if so, it won't hurt to repeat it.
I had spent DAYS trying to figure out why I was getting such terrible download speeds when my modem told me Verizon was delivering the speed I'm paying for. Talked to Verizon support, turned modem on and off--even updated DSL modem firmware. NO ONE suggested the thing that made the difference--TURNING THE ***ETHERNET ROUTER*** ON AND OFF. Just a desperation, what-the-hell-it-can't-hurt sort of move on my part, but when I did it, MY SPEED PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY VANISHED. I'm not a tecchie, but suspect the issue has something to do with things getting out of synch in the Ethernet subsystem. I don't know why this simple method isn't one of the STANDARD things mentioned in "fix-it" lists--or why the Verizon tech person didn't mention it. Hope it helps someone else. A Davis

One of the first questions that tech support asks people having trouble is if the DSL modem is connected directly to the modem. I don't see how they missed this step when working with you, but glad to hear that you got your issue resolved.

    Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
    Then test to see if it solved the problem.

    I  am not computer expert it happen to me. I think it is not working for a  touch on/ off so you have to push using your finger and  hold and open  to the right (like when you open a door). That worked for me I call it  mannual opening. I did not get any help so I figured out the hard  way.Let me know but I am for sure

    Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
    4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

    The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
    If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation.

    Yes, if you got very steady hands, and you must have the correct tools to open the Ipod. (which is the most difficult part).
    For the parts, you can buy off ebay, the audio jack and cable, less than $20 I think.
    Those plastic opening tools that they are selling only works for cases that has been opened before, they dont worked for sealed virgin  iPod cases.
    The screws are quite tiny, so be careful, it might jump out off the window or into the some hole, so better lay white sheets of paper on the floor.

  • Buttons not working; then losing connectivity on certain apps, but the browser continues to work

    For Torch 9800: only the touch screen buttons are working. The entire keypad and the top 5 buttons (menu, send, etc) were not working. I did several battery pulls and it finally started working. However BBM, FB, WhatsApp, BB App Store stopped working, but the web browser was still working, so it was not a connectivity  problem. Then the keyboard problem started again. I did another battery  pull and is started working again, but still to access to FB, BBM or Whatsapp, App word. Please help.

    Wow...lots of problems there...and impossible, without some significant diagnostics, to deduce just what the culprit it. It could be hardware, it could be software, it could be moisture intrusion, it could be other things, it could be a combination of things.
    So, first off, do you at all suspect moisture intrusion? If so, then
    REMOVE YOUR BB BATTERY NOW!!!
    Run, don't walk, to this FAQ:

    Do everything it says, including waiting the maximum recommended time. Applying power to your BB between it getting wet and doing this process reduces the chances of success. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between.
    If you are 100% certain of no possibility, even remote, of moisture intrusion and/or you have done the above and there is no change, then the next thing to try is a clean OS reload. What I suggest actually is to reload your OS clean -- as "bare bones" as possible...no add-on apps, no extra things, no themes, truly bare bones. Then, if the behavior immediately presents, you can stop as you then know that it's either hardware or un-fixable moisture intrusion. On the other hand, if the behavior does not immediately present, then run like that for perhaps a week...long enough to be convinced that the behavior will not recur. Then, after that week, add just one thing...only one, no matter how tempting it is to add more. Run again for another week if the behavior does not present. Once the behavior does present, you know your culprit! I realize this is tedious, but you have a special problem, and special diagnostics are IMHO required.
    So, to do that OS reload, at the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:

  • I am using a mac mini (10.8.3) with Mac Mail 6.3 (1503).  Whenever I try to forward an email with attachments, the attachments do not make it.  They show being sent, but the attachments never are sent.

    The title says it all.  Whenever I receive an email with attachments, I will try to forward the email to someone with the attachments.  Mac Mail shows that the attachments are attached, but the receiver says the attachments are not there. Our mail host is Rackspace.  We are setup with IMAP.  It should be noted that we are experiencing similar issues with OS 10.5.8 with Mac Mail 3.6 (936).
    We assumed Rackspace was the problem, so we logged into their webmail portal and tested it and the attachments were received as normal, which points everything back to Mac Mail.  We even had an ISP change but the problem do not change.
    I have researched the problem, and there seems to be evidence of this being a known bug with Mac Mail, but I am hoping there is a workaround.  The company is unwilling to move to a different mail client since they use Daylite 4, which does not support Thunderbird.

    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:

    from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:

    This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

    with the bamboo fun have disk which has been registered under another old email account.  This has compounded by the inability for the adobe photoshop element unable to install onto my pc.  it continues to state, cannot install as your pc does not have the shockwave player.  I have tried to download this and it states it is installed but cannot open the file. 
    my question is cannot i have the adobe elements downloaded from internet with the serial numbers, and two need shockwave player to work,
