Slow ethernet connection after WOL in win 7

I installed windows 7 on my mac mini and installed all drivers. after 2 days I decided to enable WOL but I faced a very slow file transfer over my network.
I disabled WOL but currently I face random slow connection on file transfer, slow as as 50 Kb file transfer.
thanks for your help

I had the same issue but it was with Wireless.  Goto your DNS settings in Networking in system preferences and click the minus button after clicking the DNS that shows up.  What that will do is auto-reallocate the DNS for your router.  It may be that issue, that is why mine was so slow.

Any news on ios 8.0.3 update? Been waiting for it coz of my slow wifi connection after i updated my iphone 5s to ios 8.

I have heard rumours of an 8.1 update for developers. I just found another bug in 10.9.5. I am beginning to think that nobody should touch any update from Apple until they can get their very serious Q/A problems sorted out. This is getting bad.

  • Ethernet slow to connect after waking from sleep

Since installing Lion (and updating to 10.7.1) on my 2008 24" iMac I have noticed that after waking from sleep the internet connection takes about 10 seconds to restore. I have reset the SMC and PRAM and performed a safe boot (in case this helped) but to no avail. The slow conenction can be observed if after waking from sleep the Network System Preference is clicked and the ethernet status "light" is red, changes briefly to amber and then green indcating a connection. The iMac is connected via an ethernet cable to a Linksys 802.11n 4 port wireless router.
I also have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro, with the same OS, and version, conencted in the same way to the same Linksys router and it does not exhibit this problem.
This slow internet connection access after waking from sleep is an annoyance and I'd appreciate any input on how to elimnate it.
Thanks to those wiser than I, who might read this note.

    SOLUTION FOUND!
I've found a list of possible solutions here's the link:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/wifi-dropping-in-os-x-lion-fixes/
I solved my problem moving the Ethernet and WiFi adapters in the top of the list and Bluetooth at the end.
Move Wi-Fi to the top of the Service Order list – This is an old tip that simply prioritizes WiFi as the primary method that your Mac should connect to the internet, and it seems to help maintain connections

  • Mac Pro fails to find ethernet connection after sleep

My 2.66 Nehalem MP goes to sleep just fine. The problem is every time I re-awake the machine, it never finds the ethernet connection. I have to log out and log back in for it to reacquire the connection.
This isn't a problem when I sleep on the Mac side so doesn't seem to be purely hardware related. Any ideas what's wrong?

Sorry, I realized I posted this in the wrong place ... moving posting to the networking secgtion.

  • Very slow ethernet connection

    Hi there,
I have a question about Gbps ethernet speeds. I'm a total networking newbie, so forgive me if this all sounds a bit ambitious or ignorant.
I'm in the process of upgrading from my maxed out Mac Mini to a MacBook Pro and I bought a Lacie 500GB Ethernet mini disk in order to store large video files and, ultimately, to use the Lacie drive as a wireless drive over Airport Extreme once I get myself organised and also upgrade to the new Airport Extreme -basically, I don't want to clutter up the MacBook Pro's hard drive space
Anyway, for the interim I have connected the Mac Mini and Lacie drive directly via Ethernet cable to start transferring the bigger files across from my old 160GB Firewire drive and other large files on the Mac Mini
Now, both the Mac Mini and the Lacie claim gigabit ethernet speeds, but the reality is that transfer speeds between the two are incredibly slow. For example, it took 6 hours to back up my 62 GB Home Folder via Backup - not quite the 1000Mbps I was expecting. In fact, I suspect that the USB 2.0 option with the Lacie at 480Mbps would be a lot faster.
Setting up the Lacie drive was easy and I'm transferring some pretty hefty files across; however, everything is just so slooooow. Am I missing something here? Have I completely misinterpreted ethernet capabilities or could it be that the Mac Mini is slowing everything down?
Being new to networks networking, I simplly don't know where to start making the tweaks.
    Thanks in advance.

1 network speeds are measured in bits per second, data is measured in bytes.
    2 typical real-world throughput for a 10 Mb/s connection is 5-7 Mb/s; for a 100 Mb/s connection, 60-75 Mb/s; for a 1000 Mb/s connection, under 800 Mb/s. (Copper cable, of course. Fibre is faster, but much more expensive.)

Warning: wireless speeds have even less in common with advertised maxima than do wired speeds. 802.11g theoretically tops out at 54 Mb/s, or a bit more than half the speed of a 100 Mb/s cable. Unless you're right next to the router you'll be lucky to get more than 30 Mb/s. 802.11n similarly promises 108 Mb/s, and delivers under 80 Mb/s. Often well under 80 Mb/s.
Anyway, for the interim I have connected the Mac Mini and Lacie drive directly via Ethernet cable to start transferring the bigger files across from my old 160GB Firewire drive and other large files on the Mac Mini

Six hours is 6 x 3600 or 21600 seconds. 62 GB is 62 x 8 or 496 Gb. That's 23 Mb/s, or 2% of theoretical maximum for a 1000 Mb/s cable, or about 20% of the maximum for 100 Mb/s cable and for 802.11n or about 40% of the maximum for 802.11g, and you're more than double the top speed for 10 Mb/s cable. If you're using 1000 Mb/s cable, you've got a network tuning problem. You should be able to get that info over in under a hour. If you have good equipment, in under 20 minutes. If you're using 100 Mb/s cable, you're slow but not too slow. If you're using wireless, you're in the ballpark.
Note that 1000 cable will be twice as fast as USB 2, but 100 Mb/s cable or 802.11n will be twice as slow.
Setting up the Lacie drive was easy and I'm transferring some pretty hefty files across; however, everything is just so slooooow. Am I missing something here? Have I completely misinterpreted ethernet capabilities or could it be that the Mac Mini is slowing everything down?
The mini will never be a speed demon. Part of your problem is that high-speed transfers are not its thing. However, it should be way faster than what you report.
Being new to networks networking, I simplly don't know where to start making the tweaks.
What else is on the network? What else is running on the various Macs? What kind of physical cable do you have, cat 3, cat 5, cat 5e, cat 6, cat 6e? Is part of the net on wireless?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I have a slow internet connection after the last update

    Hello Every one,
I am facing a weird issue in  my mac...
The internet connection is very very slow .. can you imagine that I wait a while to open google ??!!!!!
this problem has started after installing the latest JAVA update..
I cannot browse .. my internet Speed is 40MBS..
even the wifi is disconecting from while to while in my MAc ...
    what to do ?!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I've started hating my mac..

Same problem here.  After installing the latest Java update from Apple (and also after disabling both Java in Safari and the Java plug-in in Firefox) in the past 2 days browsing the internet has become a veritable problem with download speeds practically at a crawl.  I am on a MacBook Pro running on 10.7.3.    What is going on?

  • Airport Express-slow ethernet connection 2

Sorry to nag, but I have posted this AE speed problem before with no responses. Have an AE set up as a wireless access point on an ethernet network. [Router:8 port switch] to a distribution switch to AE. WAP2 128k. Know the connection is valid, RF 2-4 bars and can do email and iTunes at <100 kbps. Pinged my own router and have a 30% packet loss. Same-o same-o to outside servers. When I try to load a Google search page, it takes forever if at all. Hard wired path to the same port works fine, speed is up and no packet loss. So my question remains: waz up?

Have you tried changing the channel on the Express?
Many times the signal strength will look good but
there's enough interference to slow down the
    throughput.
I tried changing to channels 3 and 10 as well as setting the multicast setting to 5.5, still no luck. Thanx for the advice, I'll keep working on it. cedar

  • Slow wireless connection after 10.4.11 update

    Hi,
I have a 17-inch iMac (2Ghz cpu) and ever since I updated to 10.4.11 my wireless connection has been very slow. I used to have download speeds between 150 and 200 KB, and now I can’t get past 20 or 30 KB. I have an XP laptop right beside the iMac, using the same wireless router and the connection is a lot faster, achieving the 200 KB I used to have with the iMac.
I also used to transfer files a lot faster than I do now. I connect to a pc through smb and transferring files is really, really slow. It takes ages just to begin the transfer, and a 5MB file can take up to 15 minutes. It never took this long…
The connection is quite stable though, it rarely disconnects, so I’m not sure whether I’m having the same problem other users have been posting in the forums. What I do know is that the update messed with my wireless connection.
I’ve tried running Disk Utility’s repair disk permissions, Applejack’s AUTO repair, trashing plist files that I saw in other posts, nothing works.
Anyone with the same problem? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    josemagalhaes

    Hi again,
I think I found a solution for this. It’s not the best solution, more of a workaround, but it’s been working for me.
Searching other threads, I found this topic about users who had intermittent connection to the internet (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1027382&tstart=0). I tried changing the settings in my wireless router – not Linksys, it’s an Asus WL-520G, but has similar options – and the speeds were up again! SMB file transfers work at good speed, and the internet connection is back to normal.
I’m not sure what these settings are for, but anyway all I did was change the “Beacon Interval” to 50, “RTS” to 2304 and “Fragmentation” to 2305 (I didn’t change the MTU because that seemed to be a PPPoE setting, not wireless).
As I said, it’s not really a fix, because nothing changes in OS X, but anyway it may help some users who’ve been having the same problem.

  • Slow Ethernet Connection on Mac OSX 10.5.3

    Hi,
I own a Macbook Pro with 10.5.3 and I am having a lot of problems with really slow connection. This is only happening in OSX though. I booted into Windows to see if it was my card and thank god it isn't (I never got Applecare).
Is anyone else having the same problem?
(posted this in the Macbook Pro forums as well)

    Hi ThePanda-
Have you tried connecting via a wired connection?
That would help narrow things down.

  • Slow network connection after uprade to kernel 2.6.19

    Hello
Since I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.18 to 2.6.19 my connection to the net is extremely slow! Before the upgrade everything worked fine! And I haven't changed any config file.
When I ping my internal router (ping 10.0.0.1) I get sth. like the following:
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=133 ttl=127 time=391 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=134 ttl=127 time=4394 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=135 ttl=127 time=3383 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=136 ttl=127 time=2382 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=137 ttl=127 time=1381 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=138 ttl=127 time=380 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=139 ttl=127 time=0.280 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=140 ttl=127 time=0.283 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=141 ttl=127 time=0.283 ms
    64 bytes from 10.0.0.1: icmp_seq=142 ttl=127 time=0.292 ms
So sometimes the rt is pretty ok and the next ping is about 100x slower.
With any other machine (gentoo, windows) I have no problems.
I checked several threads in the forum and followed every advice, but haven't found a solution!
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … nel+update
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=27787
I have ip6 turned off and checked my /etc/hosts file. So I thought  maybe it could be
a problem with the nic driver. But changing the driver (from r8169 to r1000) hasn't changed anything!
So now I really don't have a clue what the problem could be!
    Any help really, really welcome!

It means you can downgrade your kernel if it's still in /var/cache/pacman/pkg.
I tried several kernels form 2.6.18 to 2.6.19.1, custom and kernel26 from repo, and still www response is horrible. It's strange, but only http protocol is broken. I have no problems with ftp, mail, torrents and others. Some websites loads normal and some of them not, especially based on mediawiki engine loads very long.
I tried many ways to solve this. I turned off iptables and almost all daemons, tested different browsers, removed browser cache and config, downgrade last upgrades, run network with dhcp and static addresses. I think it isn't dns problem, because the same reslov.conf I have on testing partition with ubuntu and it works flawlessly. My kernel doesn't have ipv6.
I'm running out of ideas now.

  • My Net900 keeps losing wired Ethernet Connection after windows 10 upgrade

Since I updated to windows 10, my router keeps losing the wired connection. WiFi is working fine, but I have to reset the router constantly to get wired connection working.  Any suggestions?

    Hello,
That's weird. I'm experiencing issues with the wireless on my laptop after updating to windows 10.
Do you have any other device that you can check the wired connection? I would like to check if this is a specific issue with Windows 10 or is the router it self with any device using a wired connection.

  • No Internet connection after upgrade to Win 10 with Dell XPS Fixed

After upgrading from windows 8.1 to 10 on my dell I had no internet connectivity. The answer is that the update reset the driver to default mode. Specifically bandwidth.Go to control panel / device manager / WiFi cardgo to device / properties - Advancedselect bandwidth and change from 20 only to 20/40 auto.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu bar item to turn AirPort/Wi-Fi off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort/Wi-Fi item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort/Wi-Fi connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • Can't set up wifi or ethernet connection after clean installing XP

Hi, I recently done a clean install of XP on a friends Toshiba Equim M50-164 PSM57E laptop using instructions from this link.
    http://www.easydesksoftware.com/I386.htm
I am now having extreme difficulty setting up the wifi internet connection, no wireless icon is appearing in the bottom right of screen. I tried downloading Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter 7.7.0.406.2 onto an external drive then transferring it to the Toshiba laptop but still it will not work.
It seems the drivers are not installing properly and are not showing up in Device Manager, nor can I connect to the internet using a usb cable.
Please help as my friend is extremely angry and I am now at a loss what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Slow net connection after Yosemite - someone please help novice

so i have read quite a lot on here which has all been very interesting so i hope you will bare with someone who really does not know a lot about computers.
Since the dreaded Yosemite upgrade my mac has ground to more or less a total halt trying to open the internet in any number of browsers (safari and firefox to name but two).
I have been able to run a speed test and says my wifi has my 60+gb download speed and about 6 upload so no issue there.
I am confused to say the least what has gone wrong as my phone and iPad seem to work ok. Can anyone tell me in simple terms if there are any solutions what the problem is as i am really crippled and my business is suffering.
PS Apple i am really not impressed by this totally botched upgrade and when going into a store to see one of the technicians they will only see you if you pay.. this is your fault i might remind you.

Hi, I tried rebooting with shift down, then rebooting again. No network still.
I looked in /var/log/system.log, but nothing from AppleYukon2.
I pasted the relevant portion from system.log beginning with the shutdown prior to rebooting with shift. I hope there's not too much text...........
The log below includes the reboot while holding shift as well as the subsequent reboot.
