Slow Exchange

Hello friends ,
I've asked about it , but I need some help from you through the experience .
I have an Exchange 2010 installed on a server that is experiencing some problems . Logs performed the PAL tool and several problems were detected , but the most serious were :
1 - I / O Disk ( Reading and Writing )
2 - LDAP search
Other smaller as memory and queue processes .
Note : This server is a DC .  I did not because LDAP Search problem was detected .
The server has :
- Two cores
- 4G RAM
- 1 Disk 1TB SATA
- Is currently with 130 mailbox , distributed in 26 Database
The plan would work only 60 mailbox , which I believe would support the server to be temporary , but today there are 130 ( double) .
The most common problems I have faced is in search of messages and a case where the outlook clients not lowered posts , so it was necessary to restart the RPC Client Access service.
What do you suggest as a solution for this scenario ?
example :
- Use a RAID1 to improve performance ?
- Add more memory to 8G ?
Thank you.

Hi,
According to your description, the LDAP search is slow in your environment. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I recommend you use performance monitor to check it:

  • Slow Exchange Migration

    I am currently on exchange 2007 SP3 RU11
    i want to install exchange 2013, but i'm wondering if I can do the install and slowly test things and migrate
    if i run the exchange 2013 install, can i have it coexist on the side but keep everything pointed to my exchange 2007 environment till i'm ready to move over?
    currently use
    outlook 2013 MAPI clients
    outlook 2011 EWS os x clients
    active sync clients
    no OWA
    thanks, couldn't find a lot of info on this.

    Yes, you can install exchange 2013 in you current exchange 2007 environment.
    When you say slow migration, then I would suggest you the following steps:
    1: Cut-Over CAS and MailFlow first to check how things are working, with OWA, AS,Outlook Anywhere etc.
    2: Test the Mail flow as it will be flowing via exchange server 2013.
    Test all these at least for 1 to 2 weeks
    Once you think its working fine, start with Pilot mailbox migration (I choose IT department users)
    Test it for a week or so. Test the Public Folder Migration/Replication.
    Public Folder replication should be easy and make sure Pilot Users are able to access Public Folder from Exchange 2013 and also they are able to create the Public Folders too.
    And once all goes well, you are safe to start full flesh migration.

  • Exchange 2010 Management Role loading slowness

    Hello,
    I'm new to the company I currently work for and relatively new into IT, and one of the first issues I have noticed here is how incredibly slow Exchange 2010 is when loading.
    I'm aware there are numerous topics covering this issue after having done many checks on search engines, however most of them seem to advise going to IE and un-checking the boxes defining Certificate Revocation or other solutions that I haven't found to
    be applicable, at least not to my knowledge. I have tried the first suggestion but found this made no difference.
    We don't get any error messages when loading but it is generally a little slow, however the issue is where it says "Getting management role information for: domain/user info etc...", at the end of the progress bar. It will sit there for
    6 minutes before finally loading and allowing me in. This happens every time you use it also, not just the first time, whether it's on the local machine of anyone in IT or on the server.
    I've checked the server's available resources and it seems to be more than enough, although it is a virtual server so I'm not sure whether that changes what the issue could be.
    Would anyone be able to help point me in the right direction of what I could be checking for? Sorry if this is a really vague question or I've not provided enough detailed information, but any help would be really appreciated. I'm sure one of the more experienced
    members of my new team could take a look but I figured I'd try and make a good impression!
    Apologies if this is in the wrong forum section also.
    Thanks very much

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.
    We're on Exchange Server 2010 SP3 (14.03.0158.001), as far as I can tell it's all up to date.
    Server specs:
    OS - Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, 64bit
    RAM - 32GB
    Processor - Intel Xeon E5-2690 @ 2.90GZ, 16 Cores, 16 Logical Processors
    There's 433 mailboxes in total, spread over 19 databases (a database for each department), 17 of those being mounted and active.
    Once I'm into the management console and can use the various features, the performance is generally fine, it's just that initial loading where it hangs.
    Thanks

  • SCVMM live migrations very slow

    I'm running Hyper V with SCVMM 2012 in my test environment. 2 hosts connected to a MD1200 and set up in a cluster. Everything works perfectly, except that live migrations take a super long time. By this I mean that when I start the Migration Wizard it takes up to 5 minutes to rate the hosts, and then when it finally completes and I start the migration, it can take up to another 5 minutes to complete the move.In my production clusters this doesn't work this way, there the Migration Wizard takes seconds to rate the hosts and usually less than a minute to move the VM.The only major difference between my test environment and my production environment is that test is using direct SAS connections to the SAN, where in prod everything runs through switches. In prod one cluster is all 1gig and one cluster is 10gig and both are about the same...

    Hey guys,
    I have searched online and in MS forums, and cannot resolve my issue.
    I have checked through similar articles, without any resolution.

    I have also come across the most common solution which is written here
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807668, however this is not my problem.
    My problem is that mailbox migrations are SLOW, I'm talking about < 15MB per minute.  I do NOT have any contentIndex errors on any of my databases, they are all healthy and stay healthy throughout the migrations.  Both Exchange 2010 and 2013
    are DAGs.
    When I 'view details' from the ECP migrations page, I see things like 'Stalled duration
    00:53:21 ', however like I said there is no errors, and nothing mentioned in the user report.
    Get-ClientAccessServer | Test-MRSHealth this checks out fine, no problems.
    I have disabled offloading on all of the NICs.
    Is there anything else I can do or monitor to find out why its so slow?
    Could it be because of DAG even though there are no errors and the state is healthy.  Would an idea be to take down the dag during migration then add that after all is done?

  • Can't get Firefox to load at all after trying fixes from support web site. Have checked for lock file, processes running, reboot, reinstall. NO JOY.

    I'm running Vista for operating system on an HP laptop that's about 2 years old. I've installed all current updates.
    I've always used Firefox. It started crashing and creating processes but not launching. Went to support and scoped it out -- there was a lock file my profile directory. I deleted it, and Firefox started loading.
    Used it a few times -- closed the app each time on exist as per suggestions on support site info. One time -- back to square one, wouldn't load, just created a process. Reboot, ending process, checking for lock file, reinstalling -- all unsucessful.

    Brian
    Below is from using a SIP build.  It does offer G722, but it's way down on the list so it's never used...
    m=audio 32678 RTP/AVP 0 8 18 102 9 116 101
    a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000
    a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000
    a=rtpmap:18 G729/8000
    a=fmtp:18 annexb=no
    a=rtpmap:102 L16/16000
    a=rtpmap:9 G722/8000
    a=rtpmap:116 iLBC/8000
    a=fmtp:116 mode=20
    a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000
    Taking Sreekanth's suggestion to try a Skinny build, I get the following when I make a call.  It offers codecs in the order I SET THEM AND ONLY THE CODECS I SET!  YAY!
    m=audio 19374 RTP/AVP 9 0 101
    a=rtpmap:9 G722/8000
    a=fmtp:9 bitrate=64
    a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000
    a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000
    Using a Skinny build on the phones also solved other issues.  The phones use G711 when the whole path supports G711 and G722 when the whole path supports G722.  It doesn't always use G722 and rely on transcoding for the call paths that can't use it.  It's fantastic..  The phones also receive the QoS tagging that I set and that seems to result in better audio quality than on the SIP builds, which never did get those settings.  Finally, it even solved a slow Exchange 2013 answer issue I have been experiencing for quite some time.  I practically fell out of my chair when I saw everything that was fixed just by switching...
    Cisco, PLEASE FIX YOUR SIP BUILDS!  It's insane how the SCCP builds work perfectly and the SIP builds don't, especially with how much these phones cost..  I was thinking of possibly acquiring some 9951s, which are SIP only.  I'm a little leery about that at this point.  If they have the same kinds of issues as the SIP builds for the 7975g, there's no SCCP alternative to use..
    Sreekanth
    Thank you for suggesting a Skinny build..  That was about the only thing I didn't try.  I am happy beyond belief that this is working so well now, even though the SIP builds should be just as well developed as the SCCP ones.

  • IPhone and ActiveSync

    Does the iPhone work with Exchange 2003?

    I was happily accessing my work's Exchange email after they enabled IMAP. They required me to VPN, but that hassle is worth full access to all my folders.
    Until... just yesterday our IT dept had to turn off Exchange's IMAP support, it was causing the server to run out of memory, lots of problems.
    I did some googling and apparently Exchange has had this type of problem with IMAP clients:
    http://www.paessler.com/blog/2006/08/17/ipcheck-server-monitor/analyzing-a-slow- exchange-2003-server/
    http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=101&threadID=204502&message ID=2128667
    Is anyone else experiencing Exchange memory usage problems with IMAP? Is it maybe being caused by the iPhone IMAP client?
    Anyone happen to know some Exchange settings that need to be tweaked, so I can ask IT to turn IMAP back on?
    Or is it time for iPhone users to unite against Microsofty corporate IT departments, stage walkouts, server room sit-ins, etc. until the iPhone gets the respect it deserves?

  • Exchange 2013 CU5 , Exchange Power Shell very very very slow reasponse when using get command.

    Exchange 2013 CU5 , Exchange Power Shell very very very slow reasponse when using get command.
    First my organize has Exchange on 2 site like
    site A (internet facing) : 2CAS 2 MB all are Services pack1
    site B (DR Site , no user active on this site) : 2CAS 2MB all are Services pack 1
    so today I upgrade Exchange 2013 from SP1 to CU5 start on "site B" and I found this issue and the details is....
    When I open EMS on any CU5 for query something (like get-mailboxdatabasecopystatus) the response return very slow and some query will not return at all (like get-owavirtualdirectory).
    But If I using EMS on SP1. Everything is ok then I try to use EMS on SP1 connect to CU5 and try to query something. the result is
    some query command cannot return for any result that are server on siteB (just some query command)
    Problem
    EMS on CU5 return very slow result.
    EMS on SP1 still ok.
    Does anyone face this problem before for CU5??? Please help me figure this out. Thank you
    reply from Social.technet

    Hi,
    Have you used the above cmdlets to check your Exchange server health?
    "all other command that I ran on EMS didn't logged on event viewer.", my environment is the same with you. I use Exchange 2013, only errors will be displayed in MSExchange Management. Actually, it is not related to slow EMS response.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi Jatin,
    Please find the answer for your question.
    1. Server is virtual or physical - Virtual
    2. If virtual then RAM is static or dynamic - Static
    3. Is the RDP only slow or when you log on locally also - RDP only slow as the server is virtual server
    4. If only RDP and its a Virtual machine then by any chance you have a broadcom lan card..??

  • Adobe Exchange Plugin Slowing Down Photoshop CC?

    Recently, Photoshop CC has been running really slow, and slowing down my computer as a whole. I've been trying to trouble shoot what was causing this, because it wasn't doing this previously. I believe I've narrowed it down to two things - Too many styles loaded in my Styles panel at once (my custom Styles file was over 200mb, because I added a lot of styles that had high res images embedded in them), and for some reason, the Adobe Exchange plugin also seems to be causing a problem.
    When I change my styles back to the default styles it helps speed thigns up, but Photoshop still doesn't start performing normally again until I remove the Adobe Exchange plugin. Anyone else having issues with this plugin eating up a lot of memory and slowing things down?

    Hi Otmaxo,
    Thanks for getting in touch. So that we can work out whether this is a problem with Extension Manager or Adobe Exchange, can you try closing Photoshop CC, then downloading the Adobe Exchange Panel (ZXP) from www.adobeexchange.com, then installing the ZXP file directly in Extension Manager without Photoshop CC open?
    If this does not work, can you confirm whether other ZXP files can be successfully installed via Extension Manager?
    Thanks,

  • Exchange 2013 with Outlook on RDS Server is extremely slow

    Exchange 2013 CU5 on Server 2012 R2 fresh install/new to domain; Outlook 2010 or 2013 on Remote Desktop server not in cached mode is slow to open, search and send messages with attachments.  Opening messages and opening attachments runs quickly.
    My test mailbox has 300kb worth of mail in it and sending a message with a 5Mb attachment locks up Outlook for close to 1 minute and takes another 30 to 90 seconds to disappear from the outbox and and move to sent items.  This issue does not present
    itself in OWA.  My current testing RDS environment is a fresh install of Server 2008 R2 with Outlook 2013.  No additional add-ins or AV running on the Exchange server or the test RDS server.
    When cached mode is enabled, Outlook runs better as shown in Outlook 2010 (+ Exchange 2013) works extremely slow; however, I don't consider this an option because there isn't enough drive space on the RDS server to cache all of the user profiles.
    Other Exchange environments - Outlook 2010 or 2013 in an RDS environment (non-cached) with Exchange 2007 or 2010 - don't show the same performance issues.  Moving within Outlook and sending large attachments runs quickly.
    I have checked Exchange throttling settings and monitored logs, but have not found cases where my test user is being throttled.  I have also looked at turning off IPv6 based on another post's suggestion; however, I have seen conflicting information
    about disabling IPv6 for Server 2012 R2, so I have not yet gone down this path.
    The Exchange server is a VM on a new VMware host and has assigned 8 cores from Intel Xeon E5-2640 procs and 16GB RAM; 1TB thick provisioned database volume on a RAID 5 array with 6 x 10k RPM SAS drives.  Disk queues are low on the Exchange server (in
    the .20 to .70 range).  My test RDS server is on the same VMware host on the same vSwitch.  Another test system is on a different system, but exhibiting the same behavior.

    Hi,
    How about the suggestion from Festivalman?

  • Exchange 2010 - how to troubleshoot intermittent Outlook slowness

    I'm having users report intermittent Outlook slowness 2007.  I can't repeat the issue exactly but I have seen it -- you get a message that says "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from <Exchange Server>" and it takes it a noticeable
    amount of time.  One of the difficulties in troubleshooting this is that I haven't seen it on my own machine, nor can I find the way to replicate the issue consistantly.
    We actually just upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and never had these issues in the past.   I've run a process monitor on the server (which is about 8 times better than our old Exchange 2003 server - 2 quad-core procs and 12 GB of
    RAM for about 250 mailboxes) and find nothing abnormal in terms of CPU time or network bandwidth usage (4 teamed 1 GB/s connections).  I have also monitored several of the Exchange RPC items, and Client: RPCs but Client:RPCs does not return anything
    at all (just 0 the whole time).   Are there other things I should be looking at with PerfMon?
    I'm at a point where I'm not sure where to take my troubleshooting.  Does anyone have any ideas?  The fact that I (and most other users I've asked) never experience the issue leads me to believe that it might have something to do with a
    local computer issue rather than a server issue, but I'm hearing reports from people with both Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010.  The other somewhat common thread is that
    Outlook is NOT running in cached exchange mode, but it wasn't when we were on the 2003 server either and we did not have this issue.   Our Exchange 2010 Server is now running the new UM role, however, and we were using Cisco Unity before.
    I have already disabled all Outlook add-ins and disabled anti-virus (client, but not Nod32 for Exchange).
    Thanks, any ideas would be appreciated.

    Forgot you're using 2010, the item counts are much more laxed, 100,000 per folder compared to 5000 in Exchange 2007. For your Outlook 2007 clients, can you confirm you're up to date on the last post hotfixes as of Feb 2011? Also I would disable caching
    of shared calendars in outlook. Also note that outlook 2010 caches all shared mailboxes by default.
    Turn off calendar caching. If you have Exchange in use then Outlook 2007 may well have the caching of people’s calendars turned on. This means that when you open a calendar you have to wait for the cache to populate, which can slow
    things down a bit sometimes. To do this:
    Go to the Tools Menu and select Account Settings
    Select your Exchange Account and press the change button
    Press the more settings button
    Select the 2nd tab (Advanced)
    Un-tick the “Download shared folders” option. Note that this will stop cached Sharepoint folders from downloading into Outlook as well.
    Press OK until all options are saved.

  • Very slow mailbox download times in Exchange cached mode

    Hi,
    I am running exchange 2007 on a 2008 server and have created a new server 2012 R2 x64 Remote Desktop server with Outlook 2013.
    I am making use of the use cached mode feature. However it is taking a very long time to download all mail upon first setting up the mailbox in outlook.
    seems to take 2min to download 500kb.
    I have disabled all firewalls and AV scanners on the TS and Mail server.
    networking between the two is excellent and download speeds and upload are very good.
    Seems like exchange is slow at giving out the data or something?..... have tried on a local desktop and not the TS but still have the same problem.
    any ideas?

    Hi CHase,
    shared mailboxes shouldnt be cached,only user mailboxes should.Reason for this is because it will download all info from shared mailbox and it can take some time.All company info will also be stored locally,so its security concern.
    You mention that you turn on cached mode,is this under user mailbox or additional mailbox as shown below?
    The one to left should be fine to cache all,but the one to the right only first check mark should be on.We have this configuratuon and senderandfrom registry works well.
    If you access OWA,then choose to open another mailbox,then choose the "support center" mailbox,do you see all folders?
    By granting full access doesnt give you send as permission,for this you will need to run this command:
    Get-Mailbox "[email protected]" | Add-ADPermission -User "[email protected]" -ExtendedRights "Send As"
    Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

  • Slow attachment upload with Exchange Web Services (Outlook 2011 for Mac?)

    We're experiencing slow attachment upload with Exchange Web Services versus MAPI, OWA, and Outlook Anywhere.  I'm not totally certain that it is Exchange Web Services or specifically Outlook 2011 for Mac.  I attempted to test with the Mac Mail
    App, but it makes it difficult to tell when the attachment has been uploaded and the file has been sent.  Here's what we're seeing (10mb file):
    MAPI / RPC/HTTPS / OWA: 10-15 seconds upload time
    Exchange Web Services (Outlook 2011 for Mac): 60-90 seconds upload time
    Thoughts? Any idea why we would see such a drastic difference in attachment upload time?  Any way to prove definitively that it is Exchange Web Services vs. Outlook 2011 for Mac?  We've tried it from multiple locations with multiple different machines,
    and although the upload times vary (some locations have more bandwidth etc) the ratios remain similar.

    Hi ,
    Does all the user occurred the issue ?
    If only special user, I recommend you do the following steps and test:
    1.Remove and re-add the email account and check if this helps to resolve the issue.
    To remove and add the email accounts:
    Open Outlook > GO to Tools > Accounts > Click on "Minus" symbol to remove and "Plus" to add an Email account.
    2.Creating a new user profile:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2439218/
    3. If the issue persists, rebuild the data base and check the results:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2360509
    You can also post it on Office for MAC forum  to get special support about the difference between Outlook and Outlook for MAC.

  • Slow PowerShell execution of Microsoft Exchange 2013 commands from c#

    I have the following code that executes an exchange cmdlet. It works fast with command that return some output but work slow if command has no output.
    for example
    Invoke("Get-Mailbox")
    prints following output:
    Begin execution at 11:44:43
    Finish execution at 11:44:51
    Output :
    Administrator
    Discovery Search Mailbox
    Artem Romanchik
    Execution time was about 8 second(6 second for loading exchange snappin + 2 seconds for command execution)
    Slow example is
    Invoke("Set-Mailbox -identity tema -MaxSendSize 10MB")
    Begin execution at 11:53:34
    Finish execution at 11:54:36
    Output :
    Now it was 62 seconds(2 seconds for command and 60 seconds of waiting for something)
    How can I reduce execution time of second example?
    Invoke method code:
    public void Invoke(string command)
    var config = RunspaceConfiguration.Create();

    output += "\n" + line.BaseObject.ToString();
    Console.WriteLine(String.Format("Output: {0}", output));

    On 2010 and 2013 Powershell is throttled
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298094(v=exchg.150).aspxyou might want to do some testing with a user that has throttling policy disabled. Also you might want to check the logs on the CAS server the request are going through eg \Microsoft\Exchange
    Server\V15\Logging\CmdletInfra you should be able to determine from these if your being throttled.
    Cheers
