Slow FTP Connection
Hi there,
we've set up a XServe 2x2 GHz, with now 10.6.1
We use this in a DMZ as a primary DNS. Web-, FTP and Kerio Mailserver.
All services runs as expected without the FTP.
If I try to connect to the FTP, either from a machine in the subnet, a machine from outside or even from the machine itself, it takes over 90 seconds to connect. Once on the server, working there works fine. There is no difference if I use the FQDN or the IP Adress. There is no NAT to the machine, it has its own public IP Addess.

Got it working now!
You just need to make sure you use the "FTP ACTIVE" protocol when connecting.
Don't know why passive is being so slow.

Firewall results to slow FTP connection
Hi there!
I have just setup my Mac Mini Server.
Everything went smooth and speed was fine.
I'm connecting to my server ftp on a local network(gigabit), it loads fast.
Now I enabled the Firewall and made sure the required ports where opened.
When I try to access the ftp now it takes over 2minutes or so to list the directory.
When I change the directory it takes another 2-3 min. And uploading doesn't work somehow.
Remember this all happened after I enabled the firewall.
I have all FTP services enabled on the firewall just to be sure:
FTP Service - PASV Port Range
FTP
SFTP
Anyone who can help me out here ?
Is there some service that needs to be enabled to speed this up?
Woud appreciate it if someone can help me out

P.S I know I can use AFP, but I want to get FTP working for remote connections from a PCGot it working now!
You just need to make sure you use the "FTP ACTIVE" protocol when connecting.

i have a 10.6.7 server with a very slow FTP authentication issue. Server is bound to AD and it is OD master as well.
Regardless of users (AD, OD or local) FTP authentication is very slow, it takes 20-25 seconds. Accessing the server via AFP or ssh with same accounts is normal speed (almost instantly)
Anybody has any idea on why FTP authentication is any different than other services?What's in the server logs around the time of the slow ftp connection?
Have you compared this with sftp, to determine if that is any faster here? (It's far more secure.)
Does /sudo changeip -checkhostname/ (on your server) report any errors with your server DNS config?
See if selecting the ftp transfer mode (active or passive) before the connection speeds things up.
I'll presume you know that ftp is completely insecure, so you might simply open up your server and see if that's any faster to connect.
Is your server firewall active when you're testing? If so, drop it. (ftp is older than IP, and really doesn't work all that well with the ubiquity of firewalls within modern IP networks. As part of getting IP to work, you'll need to ensure the ephemeral ports are open on the source or destination firewall.) -
FTP connect is super slow on my Intel iMac. I have both DW8 and DW CS3, and both intermittently produce long delays while uploading files. Sometimes files will upload in 2-3 seconds, other times I'll sit and wait for 45-60 seconds for an upload to finish. Sometimes the upload fails entirely. I've changed every site related setting (and tried every imaginable combination), turned off external file display and all invisible items display, but I can't get reliable upload speeds.
The crazy thing is that while DW is sitting there, I can manually fire up Terminal, type my connect to FTP server info, manually copy and paste my username and password, type my cd and lcd info, type my put with file name, and the file transfer is done before DW finishes. Of course I don't want to be forced to use Terminal for something that's built into DW, and I don't want to switch to Finder and Fetch every time either. If anyone has suggestions on what else I might try I'd be most grateful (especially if one of the suggestions works!).

They won't put you in direct contact with a person who actually knows anything, but instead "escalate" issues to techs, who then send copy/paste form letters 2-3 days later saying everything's fine.
After running every diagnostic imaginable, and even reinstalling my OS, I decided to open a test account with Godaddy.com. They got me set up in minutes, and FTP response in DW was immediate, as it should be. Due to the fact that Network Solutions didn't lift a finger to help resolve this FTP problem that was apparently on their end the whole time, as well as numerous other problems I've been reporting for weeks, I've dropped them. I'm very happy with Godaddy so far, and FTP has been glorious since I switched. They even offer customer service in my native tongue, English. Imagine that. -
Incredibly slow FTP upload speeds on Intel Macs with OS 10.5
I've been using FTP programs like Fetch and Vicomsoft FTP for years and recently bought two new Intel iMacs to add to my office. I still have my older G5 iMacs as well. We have an extremely high speed business class broadband connection and on the older iMacs that are running 10.4.11, our FTP connection through Fetch and Vicomsoft with them is absolutely super-fast with upload speeds of close to 300 kb/sec.
However, on the new iMacs, which are Intel Macs and run OS 10.5, the FTP upload connection is insanely slow, with upload connections of less than 30 kb/sec (yes, 10 times slower). It starts out fast at first (like all FTP connections) but then very rapidly slows to a maddening crawl of 30 kb/sec or less.
Anyone have any idea what this might be attributed to? Or anyone out there have the same problem? We are having to transfer everything to our older iMacs in order to upload, which is another huge time waste.
Any help is appreciated.
BTW, on the new Intel Macs, we have tried using both Fetch 4.0.3 (which is the version we have on the older iMacs) as well as Fetch 5.3 and the same slowness problem exists for both.Firefox 3.6.x is the last available from Mozilla for PPC Macs. <br />

Transfering .csv file from SAP to NON-SAP using FTP connection

I am able to place the .CSV file successfully to other system using FTP connection, but when i open the file I could see the gaps between each record. I mean 1st line with the 1st record and 2nd line having a GAP and 3rd line with the 2nd record and so ..on as shown below

Adding a site to a ftp connection
Hi,
Just upgraded to DW CS4 and in doing so I pressed a wrong
button...!
I have numerous sites in my site manager window and one I am
working on has reverted to being nothing more than an ftp
connection. This was my fault as I went back into the set-up window
for the site (edit site) and made it an ftp connection only, rather
than a full site with connections to local folders as well as
remote connections.
Problem is, now on the site manager list the icon has changed
from the folder with the name of the site to the ftp//sitename here
icon and I have no idea how to get it back so I have access to my
local folder.
Any help?

There really isn't any way to go back from that choice.
so- Make a New site definition and pick "site" and not "RDS"
connection.

Need help to Configure FTPS connection for File Sender Adapter
Hi,
I want to Configure, FTPS connection (Secured Connection) for File Sender Adapter. Could anyone please guide me, what Information I require to configure. I just want to know what Information should I request the team inorder the configure FTPS so that it can be deployed properly.
I have checked with [SAP Help Link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/e3/94007075cae04f930cc4c034e411e1/content.htm] and while configuring the communication channel found that I need Keystore and the X.509 Certificate and Private Key. which needs to be deployed on the J2EE server by using the Visual Administrator.
Is there anything else, I need to configure.
Any help would be appreciated in this regard.

Varun.KThe basic things are Certificate/Keys which you already know. Usually it is enough for running a sceanrio.
However, if you have additional requirements, like FTPS for "Connection Security" for encryption, then you may need additional details like commands. Rest all settings are same as FTP.

How do I get SQL Agent to perform an FTP connection through a SSIS package?
I have created a number of SSIS packages that I am running through SQL Agent in various jobs. I have set up a Credential / Proxy for the job steps and for the most part everything runs no problem. The issue I have is with the step where I make
a connection to a FTP server and download files. In BIDS the step works fine but in SQL Agent the step times out. I presume that it has to do with the account that it is being run under but that is what I thought the Credential / Proxy was supposed
to handle (as it does for all the other steps). I am running on SQL Server 2008 R2. I have created a test job that has only one step which is to connect to the FTP server and download some text files. I have tried utilizing package configuration
files and have tried various ProtectionLevels to no avail.
Anyone have any thoughts or direction for me to take? Will continue to research and will post if I resolve this.

For deployment I copied the relevant dtsx files to a solution on the prod server. I verified that the packages all had tested connections in the Connection Manager. I have run all the packages in the BIDS on the prod server and they all worked.
I have created a test package from scratch on the prod server to test the ftp connection. This test package runs from BIDS fine. I have set the SQL Agent file to access through the file system (no luck) and have saved the package to the SSIS Packages
and had the job step access from there (no luck either). -
How can I find out the server port for a secured FTP site and creating a FTP Connection Manager
I have to create a FTP Task to go out and get the files that our 3rd party vendor will be dropping on a secured FTP site. I have all the credentials to access that Secured FTP Site and have successfully done so through FileZilla.
Now I need to set-up a FTP Task to go out and get their files and in so doing create a FTP Connection Manager. Is there any way I can determine the
Server Port number from the Secured FTP site? I let it default to 21 and tried the Test Connect and it failed.

SSIS has a built in FTP task, while this only works for the FTP protocol, it doesn’t support SFTP. But there are some free clients like WinSCP and
SSIS SFTP Task Control Flow Component
available in the CodePlex which can invoked from SSIS.

I've been dealing with a severely slow internet connection with my 2007 mac pro - dual quad core. I have os 10.7.3. I use wifi.
Typically, I'll experience difficulty loading websites completely. Certain sites have a 90% failure rate to load most elements. Other sites operate quickly from time to time. Often, a site will simply fail to load at all. My cable company cannot find anything wrong with my connection and other, newer devices don't have a problem loading sites. It seems the issue is most likely related to my computer.
Interestingly, I can usually "jump-start" the connection by turning my wifi connection off and on and this will (temporarily) allow me to get an image or video to download.
Any ideas?

FTP connection on mobile device works over wifi but fails over 3G
Hi all,
Hoping someone can help, or has come across this issue.
I am developing a mobile app using flash builder 4.6 with the flex 4.6 sdk. My app needs to transfer files via ftp.
The issue I am experiencing is that the ftp connection establishes and files transfer without a problem when connected via wifi, on both android and ios platforms.
However, when only connecting via a 3G connection on a device, a problem occurs. While I can establish a connection, when I send the USER command, I never receive a response.
A simple view with code to reproduce this issue is listed below. Has anyone come across this problem? I have been searching far and wide but cannot find anything related.
Could this be an issue with Adobe Air or the socket class? I have written equivalent code using the android sdk in eclipse, and a connection to the same server and user details works on both wifi and 3g connections.
Any help would be appreciated.

</s:View>Probably you need to write your own AIR native extension, which uses the native Android sockets..I have the same problem and I'm just starting writing the extension...I guess there is no other way..At least you test with native android socket and you confirm is fine, so we know it should work

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!

As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
my Asus machine.

Background scheduling of FTP Connection through R/3

I have done FTP connection by using Z-pgm which uses function FTP_CONNECT. This is working fine in Foreground mode.
But in background scheduling of the z-pgm, i am getting the <b>error as 'RFC to program SAPFTP failed'.</b>
I checked RFC destination SAPFTP in SM59. There Activation type is 'Start on Front End Work Station'. I tested the connection also. Its alright.
How to do FTP processing in Background?

you could try to use RFC destination 'SAPFTPA' - it's ftp on the application server. Since SAPFTP is 'Start on Front End Work Station' and in background there is no front end work station, it can't work.

FTPs connection error:When using Variable substitution for Directory path

I am transferring data from BI to xml file via PI: Here a Client proxy from BI sends the data to PI and the PI FTPs the XML file to a remote location. For FTP I am using FTPs SSL connection.
It was working fine untill I used Variable susbstitution to determine Directory path dynamically. I am using this because different xml files are intended to goto the different locations.
I did the variable substitution like this:

I guess the problem is not with Variable Substitution..
Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool:
So its a connection problem..
Also check the option Disable Security check and try again...
Try to check again if the interface is executing properly without Variable substitution and let us know..
