Slow Functioning of N95

Anybody suggest a solution for a really slow functioning N95? It takes around 3 seconds for the phone go to 'new message' when I hit the shortcut key. Actually, in general it is really slow with everything, anything I ask it to do, it takes ages, like a slow computer. I wiped my memory of all texts, pics etc to see if it made a difference but it didnt! Really appreciate any tips if you have them!

Just try turning the phone off and on first. Mine is slow after I have added new songs to the playlist. After turning it off and on it works fine. Failing that a backup of phone memory and a reset should do the trick.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?
Life's too important to take seriously.
Nokias I've owned 3210, 3310, 6100, 7650, 6600, 6680, 6630, N80, N95
I'm a 26 year old boy BTW

  • Home button no longer working, screen not responding half the time, very slow functioning and random crashing?? What is going on?

I got my IPhone 4 (GSM) a couple of years back, and had never had any trouble with it. As soon as the new updates came out (this past summer), the phone has been glitching out (randomly screen going black, or closing an app by itself, super slow functioning, screen not responding to touch and home button not working anymore).
Help anyone? Makes no sense why it would just stop working.. ??

it depends. i had an iPhone 3GS that was not good in the first place, but functionable. when i got iOS6 it just acted weird like yours. Have you ever dropped your phone or anything? Or maybe you should try closing your apps. For the home button. Go to Settings:General:Accsessibility:Scroll down;Assistive Touch: On. That part is hard to explain but self explanatory,
    i hope this helps!

  • Lost BT Modem Function with N95

Until I did a SECOND Firmware upgrade (first was to 20.0.015, second to 21.0.016), I was able to use my N95 as a modem via BT with my Palm TX. Now, when I attempt to connect, a BT connection is established followed by a 3G/3.5G data connection visible on the N95's screen as the solid bi-directional arrows. However, as my Palm is doing it's "Signing On" routine, I notice that the N95 data connection drops. Every single time at the same place in the sign-on. This is followed by a "Time Out" message on the Palm.
If I have the Connection Manager open to Active Connections while trying to make the Modem Connection, "Modem Connecting" does appear for several encouraging seconds, but then disappears as the data connection fails.
I've received new configurations from my provider, and internet connectivity is fine directly from the N95 alone. I can't explain why the Palm can make the BT connection, generate an initial 3G data connection, yet fail at what appears to be the final stage of authentication. My Palm configuration has NOT changed. There are no error messages from the N95, and only the "PPP timeout" from the Palm.
    Ideas?

    grschinon,
As we both suspected, it was the N95. Nothing to do with the Palm, on which nothing had been changed. Basically, my O2 support tech had me manually create a new AP. It differed only slightly from the original one I created (with O2 direction) when I initially set the phone up. But, both manual configurations were completely different from automated configurations delivered to me via SMS.
The slight difference between the two manual configurations? Explicitly specified DNS IP addresses.
So, that put all to right, and to great relief. I should have stopped there, but NO! I decided to DELETE what I assumed to be the non-functional configuration (supplied via SMS). After having done so, my N95 continued to work as a modem, but my Truphone wizard couldn't "see" my manually created 3G AP! So, I re-saved my SMS-delivered configuration, and this resulted in a 3G AP which is visible to and works with Truphone. I still don't understand what about the manual configuration renders it "invisible" to Truphone -- other applications (Google Mail, browser) cab see it just fine.
So, now, things are working as usual. None of this was intuitive. I'll see how this works when roaming outside of O2's network.

  • MacBook Pro 2009 new hard drive install results in very slow function and freezing

I just wanted to post my resolution to a problem that I had trouble finding an answer to on these forums.
    Short version:
I replaced the hard drive in my 2009 MacBook Pro because the computer froze and upon reboot the Disk Utility said it was corrupted, but with the new hard drive the computer ran very slowly and often showed the spinning rainbow wheel. I replaced the SATA cable that connects the hard drive to the motherboard and it works perfectly once again.
    Long version:
Recently my MacBook Pro (2009 running Snow Leopard) froze up and I performed a hard reset by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on it would not boot OS so I ran disk utility from the Snow Leopard install DVD. The test said the hard drive was corrupted, and since the computer is way past warranty I decided to change the drive out myself. I bought a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400 Drive from Amazon, opened the computer and replaced the existing hard drive with the new one. When I first booted from the OS install DVD, my computer was not recognizing that any hard drive was present. I read somewhere on these forums that sometimes the formatting on new Seagate drives can't be read by MacBooks and they need to be reformatted using another computer, but I tried simply taking the hard drive out and putting it back in a couple of times thinking maybe I had just not plugged it in correctly. After the 4th attempt the hard drive magically showed up, and I was able to reformat the drive and install OS and even Windows XP on bootcamp.
Everything seemed to be okay but applications were running slowly considering this was a fresh drive and OS install. Over time, the computer started to hang more and more. In OS I would get the spinning rainbow wheel even when doing something as simple as opening a browser window in Chrome or trying to type into a text field. When I tried to use Windows it would simply freeze after only a short time and I'd have to do a hard reset.
I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store which was unhelpful, so I continued searching through these forums to try to figure out the problem. I noticed a lot of people had trouble with the SATA cable that came with the computer because it's quite thin and delicate, and would get damaged when changing out the hard drive. However most of these people seemed to experience a question mark when starting up the computer, whereas mine would fully boot and be functional for a time. I thought it unlikely that a damaged cable could possibly leave the computer partially functional. Finally though I gave in a dropped the $26 for a new SATA cable on Amazon. As soon as I installed it the problem was fixed, and the computer runs as fast as when I first bought it. I don't know if I damaged the cable changing the hard drive (I was extremely careful) or if my original hard drive was not actually corrupted and the cable was already damaged. I mentioned the possibility of the cable being damaged at the Apple store and the representative said that often times they fail because people carry the laptop with one hand, and because of the way this model was designed this puts a lot of pressure right on that thin cable. Regardless, if you do plan on changing out your hard drive in your MacBook keep in mind that the SATA cable is sensitive, and that if you experience problems with a fresh hard drive and OS install the SATA cable is a likely culprit.

If you think you have either a hard drive or a cable problem, to the best of my knowledge the only product that can help isolate both of them is Scannerz. You can check it out at:
    http://scsc-online.com/Scannerz.html
I think that's the correct link. If it isn't and you're interested and that's wrong, just google it. I'd also check out their downloads section, especially the sort of short document on using path isolation to detect and isolate problems.
Scannerz can detect both errors and irregularities. It uses the surface scan progress as a reference. Cable problems never show up at the same location because they're typically intermittent. Surface problems always show up at the exact same place. That's the only product (at least commercially available) that can do that.
I don't know if this information is of any value to you because it sort of sounds like you've already solved the problem, but it might be of use if you have problems in the future.
In any case, I've seen several posts on several different sites where people were reporting insulation break down on some of the SATA cables. Apparently the insulation breaks down and the cable starts shorting to the case.

  • Startup woes followed by slow functionality.

    Hi all
I have a MacbookPro 2006, 3Gb Ram, 500 Gb internal drive. 2.33 Dual Core. The Logic board and HD were replaced about a year ago.
Never had an issue really with it.
Not until I dropped it the other night.
Wouldn't start up fully. The chime, screen lit up, no apple. Just grey screen and fans whirring.
Now, I've two backups, a cloned version on an external drive about a month old and a current Time Machine backup.
    - So I boot off the SL disc, and tried Disk Utility, reported issues it could not fix.
    - Booted off DiskWarrior DVD. Reported major issues and that it couldn't replace the directory.
So I harvested the latest files using DW, no harm even with the two backups.
    BIte the Bullet.
    - Boot off the SL disc, ran Disk Utility, erased the drive, writing zeros to disk. Ran smoothly.
    - Ran the SL installer to do a clean fresh OS install. Quit half way through, said it couldn't install all the support files.
    Hmm...
    - Rebooted off the SL disk. Ran Restore Backup from A Time Machine from the menu, selected my most recent full backup. It took seven hours, did it, reported no issues.
    - Restarted. Grey Screen, chime, Apple logo, spinning cogwheel... and that's it.
    - Rebooted off SL disk, Ran Disk Utility, Repaired disk, it did a bunch of things. Repaired permissions too.
    - Restarted. Grey Screen. chime, Apple logo, spinning cogweel... that was it.
    - Restarted in Safe Boot mode. Ran fsck twice till it reported no modifications.
    - Restarted. Same as before.
    - Rebooted off DiskWarrior disk. Checked the directory, reported only minor issues, suggested replacement directory, replaced the directory.
    - Restarted. No difference, stuck at the logo.
    Hmm...
    - Downloaded the 10.6.5 combo updater, maybe that might 'bless' the internal HD to boot.
    - Booted off an external drive, ran the combo updater on the internal drive.
    - Restarted.
    - Got all the way to my login window. Logged in. The whole thing slow as treacle.
And there I find myself, with a Mac that is struggling, clicking anywhere results in a spinning beachball. Finder windows take an age to draw, if they actually do manage to draw. Launching programs is impossible.
    Help much appreciated. I'm baffled.

You say you have a bootable clone? What happens if you boot from it?
You might want to try running SMART Utility:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a detailed analysis of the physical health of your hard drive. It is more critical than Disk Utility, and may pick up signs of a failing hard drive, which could be the problem.
The drop could have jarred almost anything. If the HD checks out OK, you may need to open it up and reseat some cables on the logic board.
    Good luck!

  • Word crashes, slow functioning = imminent death?

My wife's ibook G3 has been having serious performance issues. It often performs even the most routine tasks in an astonishingly slow way. Word, especially, has been crashing often and unpredictably..
We have MacJanitor and Onyx and run them regularly (too often, in fact, out of desperation). I also do the disk-utilities permissions evaluation and correction thing. The problems persist. In an ominous sign, the hard drive is unusually audible and its sounds are not entirely healthy.
I replaced the battery on the iBook G3 a few months ago, after it basically died, but these other problems are persistent.
Is this G3 headed to the graveyard, or are there other steps to take? I thought of taking it in to a "genius desk" at a Mac store, but wonder if that's worth the trouble.

Did you follow the links in my above post?
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer, even, than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
If the iBook has less than 5 to 6 GB of available hard drive space, things can become sluggish.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.
The above tells you one way to deal with crashing and slowness, and also tells you how to figure out how much hard drive space you have remaining. The links appear in the identical post earlier in this thread.
Did you copy things over to the DVD without deleting them? If so, they are still there on your hard drive, taking up space.
If you deleted the items you copied to DVD, did you remember to empty the trash? The hard space is not regained until the trash has been emptied.
I would recommend a bit of hard drive maintenance before attempting to add another application (browser) to your hard drive.

  • Vista style search function for N95 8gb?

    Hi
Is there anyway to search the whole of the N95? I know there is the built in search option but it never finds anything that I know is somewhere on the phone.
What would be great is a vista style search where you can put a few letters or a word in and it scans the whole PC to find it.
Like today I saved a webpage, it saved itself as a .jsp, then it just said "saved" without telling me where it was saved to, cant find it anywhere!
    cheers

Yes this is exactly what I mean! Last week I was in applestore NY and was playing with a 5c and 5s and did not experience this problem, the apps menu loaded very fast in the same menu...anyway, I do not care but It seems as the CPU is lagging a bit if it cannot read fast this data in an almost empty phone...

  • N95 - Lost "New Paired Device" functionality

    Hi,
I have a rather troublesome issue as I can no longer pair simple devices that do not initiate auto-discovery of nearby devices, such as Bluetooth wireless headsets.
Issue started this morning when a previously paired (and working fine...) SE-HBH PV705 bluetooth headset was turned on, which caused my N95 to crash and reset.
From this point on, (since I also deleted the bluetooth entry thinking it was better to re-establish a fresh pairing) I am no longer able to search for any Bluetooth devices set in discovery mode (the headset has been reset and is in discoverable mode).
Tested with my PDA and laptop (both set to discoverable mode) and same results - N95 just DOES NOT initiate a search at all.
However, if I were to use the PDA or Laptop to search for N95, I am able to see & pair with it.
Just the other way round, N95 initiated, no longer works.
Quite helpless as to what to do next since the Factory reset function in N95 is a soft one and does not perform a hard reset like some devices.
    Flash the phone, I guess?
Anyone with anything similar or have a workaround - please suggest
    ZDM

I am, as of today, at the brink of despair, with yet another day of uncertainty over the outcome of my repairs.
Thus I am writing this "open letter" to get this item of my chest and essentialy move on.. I am definitely closing this chapter with Nokia, guys. Adios.
    =========================
    Open Letter to Nokia CARE
I bought the N95 on the 3rd of April, 2007. On the 9th of April, 2007, the phone was submitted to Nokia Care for non-functioning Bluetooth issue
The phone was used for 6 days, and as of today 16th April, 2007 - has been in the repair workshop for 8 days. In other words, it has been under repair longer than I have had the privilege of using, AND COUNTING
To date, I have no visibility or reassurance that my brand new phone is coming to me any time soon. [still stuck in HQ, not sure if on transit back to STC or not...]
I have paid the full retail price of S$ 1'288 for a defective phone and in effect, I am subsidizing Nokia's Beta testing program
My perception of Nokia product is declining by the day
I do not see any connection AT ALL between what I recently owned and are currently undergoing, and of the vision described on the Nokia Corporate website: "Delivering Great Experiences to our customers by creating products & solutions that work seamlessly and are appealing"
If Nokia really embraces the above vision, it would have obviously replaced my phone by now with a new fully functioning one
Moreover, the website also professes to adhere to a strong "Quality is at the heart of Nokia's brand promise, very human technology" - I do not see that quality and are not reassured of that quality by an obviously defective handset which remains, to this day, under repair but with little or no signs of recovery plans to salvage a customers sinking perception
Courtesy and Lip Service - is not what I need from Nokia Careline, which I must admit they do very well- I need answers and the Care Agents are not empowered to give me that answer or to provide an alternative solution.
End of the day, how am I supposed to "fall in love" with this product?, when all I am getting at this stage are doubts and mounting concern of my new (yet intangible) purchase.

  • Macbook Pro running extremely slow

While still on Mavericks my Macbook Pro 13 mid 2010 (2.4 Intel core 2 duo) sporadically began running extremely slow functions, even the mouse cursor moved in jolts and steps, to type a word in google search engine I had to wait a few seconds after being typed for the word to appear on screen. The internal speaker volume responds 10 seconds after tapping the buttons on the keyboard.  Videos are unplayable in netflix and other sites because picture freezes and runs in jolts and steps. Its Not the internet connection or the streaming.
I upgraded to Yosemite to see if this would fix the problem, I upgraded the darned adobe flashplayer believing maybe I needed the latest software available for my programs for the computer to run smoothly. I upgraded the RAM to 8GB from 4GB and did not fix the problem. I have more than half of the 500GB hard drive with free space. I'm getting a Java Runtime Environment download prompt to view properly something every time I boot the computer.  The "slowness" comes and goes. But it gets more frequent and worse each day. I can't work.  Could it be some type of malware that makes the computer slow? I can't identify a specific malware to address and remove. Could it be that the fan isn't working properly and runs slow when its too hot?? Please HeLP!!

a very good and quite current discussion on the issue is here > Mac slow after Yosemite 10.10.1 up-grade - kernel task? - the best of the best here in the forum weigh in here. - Feliz Navidad - ÇÇÇ

  • IMovie editing slow while MBP connected to Plasma Screen

Am newbie to MBP and iMovie
I am using the MBP connected to the 42 inch Plasma screen. I am getting frequent and prolonged spinning ball while editing in iMovie.
The raw DV footage is stored on Glyph EHD connected to MBP by FireWire 800 cable.
Is the slow functionality and frequent appearance of spinning ball due to connection to Plasma screen ? Is it because the MBP is slowly accumulating more and more footage while building the movie project in iMovie on the MBP hard drive ?
There should be no accumulation of DV files on the MBP hard drive until which time as I decide to burn the movie. Yes, No ?
What sort of interface or accelorator is available for install between MBP and Plasma to overcome this problem since this is a great way to edit.
    Thanks

That's not good. Were you barefoot and on a concrete floor? Or touching something else with the hand that wasn't touching the Mac?
It sounds like there could be mis-wiring in the walls...like a crisscross of neutral and ground. You might invest in one of those inexpensive house wiring detectors that they sell at hardware stores and see if it shows a fault when plugged into the same outlet where the TV plugs in.

  • Start up very slow and sometimes not at all and other weird stuff

Installed Leopard right after its release...had a mail issue which was resolved using phone support. My Macbook seemed to be a bit slower functioning and yesterday I couldn't get into it half the time - it would either get stuck in the screen between starting up and the desktop or would show the apple logo and then a 'no' symbol (like u see with no smoking signs minus the cigarette!) I did manage to persevere and get in and search a few things but the whole time everything was very slow. I downloaded the update for Leopard but its still quite slow and today I have had problems with various random programs being shut down for no apparent reason....any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Helena.

    Hello helena:
I am assuming you installed OS X 10.5 by using the easy install (update).
If the problems have been with you from the beginning, I think I would consider and archive and install:

  • Autosave functionality in peoplesoft

hi, i've placed an autosave code (which i've got in the internet) in an HTML area (property is constant) then when I access the page where the code has been included, I've encountered an IE error which states:
    Char: 41
    Error: Expected '{'
    here's the code being used:
    <script type="text/javascript">

i guess you are trying to use ERMS(email reponse management system in CRM) either support desk or help desk.
u need to configure a whole setup in order to make this functionality work.
please make clear whether this is the one you are trying to achieve.
ERMS functionality in short: it has all mail box servers in place. once the mail comes from a user to a mail box, based on content and information the email is routed back to respective mailing list. the person picks the mail and replies back to the mail box which routes back to the user requested.
it uses process schedulers,IB gateways, nodes,SMTP servers to do the job.
    Thnks!
