Slow gif animations from photoshop

Hi all. I have to create two small gif animations. Each one is only 10 frames and the file size of my animations is under 40k when exported. But no matter what timing setting I use, they seem sluggish when viewed in any browser (FF, IE, Safari). I've tried 0.5, 0.2, 0.1, 0.05, and even 0.0 between frames. The animation should really only take half a second to complete but they seem to take up to two seconds to complete when view in a browser.
Yet I can view other gif animation on the web that are much larger in size and they seem to animate quickly and smoothly (compared to my slow and choppy ones).
is there a trick to getting fast, smooth animations from photoshop?
Thanks!

There is no such feature in DW. DW knows nothing about GIF
images other than
the fact that they are images. I'm guessing that you did not
properly
export the animated GIF from Photoshop. When you open that
image in the
browser, does it animate?

  • Loading .gif animations into Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac

For years I used Photoshop Elements 2 for Windows to make .gif animations with great success.
Then I switched to a Mac and bought Elements 8 for Mac.  Now, I am finding out that I can not load any
of the animations I made using Elements 2 into 8.  (And yet I can load animations I made using 8 into 2.)
In fact, I can not load any .gif animations into 8, other than if I make one and save it
as .psd.  8 allows me to make them, but not load them as .gifs.
My question:  Is there an easy way to load .gif animations into PS Elements 8 so a
person can work on the individual frames?  Am I going to have to convert any .gif animation I
want to import into 8 first into .psd?  All I seem to get when I try to load a .gif is the message
"This is an animated gif.   You can only view one frame." I have searched manuals and the
Net looking for a specific method of using PSE8 to load gif animations intact (not just one frame).
Is it possible?  Thanks. (I also have noticed that Elements 8 will not allow me to change the frame
speed -- it is unchangeable at .2)

    Dear Ms. Brundage -
I followed the directions detailed in your blog entitled "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" as well as your description of the process on page 58 of your book "Photoshop Elements 9 - the missing manual."
I installed PE9 for Windows and converted my catalog.  I then backed up that catalog to an external hard drive.  I then connected the hard drive to my MAC on which I also installed Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC.  I opened the Organizer and tried to restore that converted catalog.  However, for each file in the converted catalog, a dialog box opened that said "Could not restore file:  /Volumes/Name of External Hard Drive/Filename.JPG."
I then made a second backup of the converted catalog using Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and then tried to restore that catalog again on the MAC using Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC, again to no avail.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?
    Thanks again.

  • How to make gif-animations from java-midlets?

I have produced a collection of Java animations as midlets.
I am planning to make gif-animations of some of them.
I suppose I can make a gif-picture of every frame of the applet
through coding that myself in the code. Then I could take
those gif-pictures and make an animation of them
with some animation software. Is this a good approach?
If so, what is the best software for doing this?

What I need to do is to make color wallpapers. Do you know any better approach for doing this?

  • Animated GIF exported from Photoshop is blurry

I have an animated GIF, 400px x 400px, 150dpi. It looks fine in Photoshop, but when I Save for Web and export it, the GIF appears in the browser double the size and blurry. Even if I choose the export settings to be half the size at 200px x 200px, the GIF is still blurry. I thought a retina display might have something to do with it, but when testing on a PC, the GIF is still too large, even though it appears more clear.
What am I doing wrong here? I just want what appears in Photoshop to appear in the browser.

What aspect ratio are the photos in the slideshow?  Have you tried cropping them to 3:2?
    Happy New Year

  • Can I bring an animation from Photoshop into iMovie?

I wanted to know if you can bring an animation made in Photoshop, into iMovie? I'm making a video in iMovie and I really need this animation in the video but I don't know if it's possible.

    No.
You have to make (export) from iPhoto to make the video first.

  • How do I export an animation from Photoshop with no background, to use in after effects?

Its been a few years since I've used photoshop and after effects together so hoping you can remind me how to do this.
I'm trying to export an animation created in photohop, its frame by frame, no background. I've been exporting it as an image sequence, now I"ve coloured it I need to solve this transparency issue.
Is there a way to export it to use in after effects on top of a background layer.
So I just want to see the character, no background, animation on top of my background layer in after effects, does that make sense??
Please don't say I need to have an alpha channel on each frame, that will take ages, there must be another way.
Please help I need to sort this ASAP
    Thanks in advance!
    x

    Thanks!
So this makes sense, I tried it, when I import into after effects (here is the psd.)
I get this window not sure what to be selecting, but I tried different things and it still isn't importanting as literally the animation with no background, have I missed something? whats strange is that when I import the psd, what does import is a strange monatage of snippets of the video I'm making in afterfx, not the completely separate animation i made in photoshop which I'm trying to work into the video.
very perplexing! any more help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Importing files in .GIF format from Photoshop CS5

I Have a problem. I'm trying to make my own ending to a clip I'm doing for school, Frame by Frame (stupid idea; I know!), and it is due on Nov. 28th, 2012 and I need help. The error message I get for attempting to import it was the following:
It runs perfectly fine when I run the HTML for the .GIF

    >It runs perfectly fine when I run the HTML for the .GIF
I don't understand that statement and how it relates to Premiere Pro video editing
I have never tried to use a GIF in video... have you tried JPG or PSD?

  • Gif Animations

First off, I'd like to say I've been making gif animations in Photoshop Elements since 2.0, and I've had no problem with 6.0 either--- when I was on Windows.
For whatever reason, when I open a .gif animated image, I get an error message that says:
"This is an animated GIF. You can only view one frame. Saving over this file will result in a loss of information."
EVERY single time I open a gif, and as soon as I hit okay, it opens to the single frame locked. As I said, I've never had this problem with Photoshop Elements 6.0 in Windows... Any suggestions/ help please?

Your post is unclear on some important points. When you say "when I was in Windows" does that mean you are talking about a mac now? What version of PSE are you talking about?
If you mean PSE 8 for mac, you would be better off downloading a program like the free Giffun from stone.com and using that for animated gifs. For one thing the frame rate has been broken in the mac version of PSE in both 6 and 8.

  • Gif animation frame number limit?

    Hello,
I have created a 35 second (25fps) line animation within AE.
Since AE does not export gifs anymore, I exported as QT movie & opened the QT in PS and saved for web as Gif animation.
In the save for web dialogue it said "frames 500 of 500" and when it exported the animated Gif it had truncated the length of the animation (as the total length is 875 frames).
Within PS the animation appears till the end.
I played around with frame rates etc, brought it down to 15fps but it would just extend the duration and not be able to get all of the movie exported.
Btw the 500 frames animation created an 85kb gif
I tried using AME to encode to Gif animation, but the filesize was huge at 20MB, which negated the point foe Gif.
So is there a 500 frame limitation to exporting gif animations from within Photoshop?
    Thanks

Seems valid enough to me, insofar as Adobe has a prominent ad across the top.  That would *technically* make your post sort of spam-like, Chris.
Seriously, thanks for that link - it made me smile.
But they were all pretty short.

  • Gif animation k changes once saved

When I "save for web" a gif animation in photoshop its optimized at 72k.  I then check it in file manager and its 102k???!!!

    1. Project settings = Standard 48khz NTSC Preset
    2. Clip looks dim in both source monitor and preview monitor
(with the alpha turned off and interlace consecutive frames turned on the source video stays dimmed, but the preview frame becomes bright as it should look)
    3. If I just start a project , import the video and export to a new movie clip the new exported movie clip gets dimmed even when viewing in media player, only if I do the alpha turned off and interlace consecutive frames trick can I get the exported clip to look normal/undimmed in media player.
    4. Yes origianl animation clip has the same framerate and pixel dimensions of the project. I am not altering any speed timing.

  • Weight of gif animation changes

When I "save for web" a gif animation in photoshop its optimized at 72k.  I then check it in file manager and its 102k???!!!  I've made many web banners this is the first time it's ever done this.

    Hi Jmack
I have no idea.  I save it gif, colors 256, perceptual, no dither, uncheck sRGB.
This is what i do usually and its usually fine.  Its the first time the k weight changes in file manager.  A few designer friends have tried on their computer and the same thing happens, the k increases in the file manager.....
How do I check I am saving any extra data?
In the optimize window, under GIF its written 45.46k - 5 sec @ 128 kbps
    Appreciate all your help

  • Exporting video from Photoshop CS6 leaves background grey where it should be white.

On export of an animation from Photoshop, the rendered video has a grey background where it should be white. We have tried multiple settings and documents and nothing we've tried works?
Does anyone know what might cause this. Using CS6.
    Thanks.

    There is no app.
It is the camera.  Just take video with the camera.

  • Import animated GIF from Photoshop?

I have a question... I am unable to create custom animated gif's in Photoshop 5/6 and import them into Captivate 7.  It just says "The GIF file contains errors".  I've tried exporting on multiple settings and still no luck, same with exporting from Fireworks.
I am however able to import an exported gif from Flash, yet the quality is horrible and the transparency is buggy.  Is anyone else having this issue, or is there some setting that I am missing?  Basically I need to animate some images within a Captivate project, without the need of using a .SWF (for HTML5 output). Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

I experienced this issue with Captivate 8 and Photoshop CC...
I eventually realized if the animation has any frames with "no delay" I would get the error.  Changing those frames to a 0.1 second delay resolved my issue.  Not sure if this is the same bug you are experiencing but it's worth a try!

  • Animated GIF in a Photoshop layout?

I'm pretty new to website building stuff.
I want to make an entire webpage layout in Photoshop CS4 and put it into Dreamweaver and turn it into a template for a website. I understand all of the slicing and importing stuff, but I want the image in the upper left corner to be an animated GIF. The image in the upper left corner would be the only animated part.
How can I put the animated GIF into the layout? Can I put it directly in using Photoshop and have it work properly after slicing? Do I have to put it over top of the layout some how?
Ideally, I would be able to create the layout as one thing including the Gif and slice it up from there.
I'd like to know how this can work beforehand because I'd rather not invest a lot of time into it, just to have it fail.
I'm sure some people would suggest Flash, but I have no idea how to use Flash, and I would prefer to use an animated GIF made in Photoshop.
I would really, really appreciate some advice on this. Thanks in advance.
P.S. What I'm trying to do will look a bit like this... http://www.russabbott.com/   I'm aware that this is Flash, but I'm hoping for a GIF.

You put an animated gif into the layout the same way you put a static gif into the layout.
As I never let Photoshop create my layouts/pages for me, I can't really advise on that, but if you send your layout to Dreamweaver with the part you want as an animated gif carefully sliced into an entity of its own with a static gif in that position, you can go back in and substitute your animated gif for it afterwards.
And for heaven's sake, don't be afraid of "failure"...you're just testing your skills and if it doesn't work exactly as you think it will, you will have learned something.
