SLOW IDE scan

Hi Folks,
just bought a KT4 Ultra, and nearly everything works fine. Only two drawbacks:
- As it scans automatically for all IDE masters and slaves it takes just a half eternity until it recognizes the primary master. After that the rest of the scans is rather speedy.
Any chance how to speed up things?
- My 4 IDE devices are connected via identical U-IDE cables. But BIOS claims that the primary master (actual Maxtor HD, 80 GB) is not connected via 80-pin wire and so it works only with DMA 2 instead of 5. Chnaging the cables has no effect.
Any idea?
Bye..............Ralf

Hi Ralph..
SOmetimes, this sort of thigs happen when the IDE cables are bent, or not plugged in properly.. But since u changed the cable, i dont think that this is an issue.. I hope u have a good PSU cos u are using 4 ide devices.. Im not sure wether the power affects the IDE scanning but who knows

  • Long POST IDE scan

I'll make this short and too the point...
    2 problems.  I need help.
    System Setup:
    Antec 350 psu
    6585mobo
    AMI BIOS version A6585SMS V1.5 02142003
    1.8ghz cpu
    256meg ram
    eVGA GF4 MX440se
    WD400BB
    ASUS 52x24x52 CDRW
    USR 56k fax modem
The first problem is that the POST IDE scan takes entirely too long.  I would say 30sec to 1 min to do the IDE scan.
Secondly, after a successful shutdown and power-up, the scan does not show the HD during the POST IDE scan, then it asks for a bootable disk and press any key to continue.
To correct this problem, I've had my customer enter into BIOS and immediately exit out by selecting save changes and Exit.  This procedure works 100% of the time but it is a pain.
Is there anything that someone can point me to to correct this issue in order to satisfy my customer?

you have a WD HD so if it is the only device on the drive just pull the jumper off it and leave it off.  If your cd-rw is on the same ide cable set HD to master and cd-rw to slave.

  • K7T Turbo2 Not Detecting on IDE scan.

Antex 300w.,MSI K7T Turbo 2,AMD AthlonXP 2000+,300mb SDRAM, Maxtor40G (7200rpm ATA/133),NVidiaGeForceMX/MX-400,52xCD/R-RW,16XDVD ROM,Ultra ATA/133 High Speed Dual Channel Controller,WinXP. When I boot this machine it detects on first screen, IDE Detect, as it should. When it gets to IDE scan screen it shows 0 thru 3 "not detected","press esc to continue or ....... to enter setup. then it shows what I call Scan Disk, white/black  bar line that goes all white to show progress. It then take alot of time to open XP to desktop. BIOS is set at Optimized selection. What am I missing?? Bad Board? Bad Builder (me)???

Think that line is not showing progress of scandisk, but ending time to make a selection of entering setup or select a bootable device...

  • IPad one nearly 3 years old has got very slow - ideas?

My iPad will be three years old in June. In the last few weeks it has got very slow - sometimes apps take ages to respond and have to be touched several times - the same with scrolling and in fact any touch control. Even then it is slow to load things.
It is a 64 gb which is only just over half full so I don't think it is because there isn't much memory.
    Any ideas?

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
Memory overloads can cause slow down and reboot clears those.

  • 8630 very slow to scan

Scanning using the Mac scanning application "Image Capture" is extremely slow.  I have a new iMac with i7 processor and 32GB of RAM; scanning takes over *one minute* and seems to peg my CPU.   Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem and found using the "ControlCenter" software from Brother and then reducing the scan resolution from 300x300 to 100x100 made it much faster.

This download includes the BrotherControlCenter software for easy to use one button scanning from your Mac or machine Scan-to button.

  • Nvidia SLOW-SLOW IDE performance.

    Afternoon.
Something has gone terribly wrong with my board, or the drivers that I use under XP.
When I bought the board, I was able to write 2x16 DVD's at once from ISO images. I have two BenQ 1620 DVD drives. Now, when I try to do the same, Nero slows down to the point where there is almost now activity on the harddrive. But this only happens when I use both recorders at once. If I use one recorer, it's work OK at 16x.
DMA is enabled, and I can't see anything wrong with my setup under windows - perhaps you guys can give me some ideas. Latest NVIDIA drivers for windows/compatible firmwares etcetera.. I have the K8N SLI Platinum.
    David.

I think I've found the problem..
The file I tried to write had 118,000 sements. After I ran defrag on my machine, the problem is now solved...

  • 648 max slow ide cd-roms

So, my problem is that my cpu´s cd-rom devices are extreme slow. SiSoft sandra benchmarks my DVD about 4000kb/s and my CDRW 2500kb/s.
I had same problem with my hardrive when i used IDE drivers from utility cd but when i installed new IDE driver from internet (Siside39?) i got my hd running good (at 22000kb/s, reviously at 4500kb/s). It had no effect on cd-rom drives.
I installed later version of IDE drivers (Siside47) but it had no effect on anything.
I have tried regroup my ide devices from connectors and from bios, no effect.
    Any suggestions what could help?

i had a problem with a cd rom (52x) running at a crawl like 4x speed.  still dont know why it did since it works fine in another system.
Nero has a program that measures your cd speed and a graph that shows you how it is going instead of a straight number like 2000.  i think it is free to download

  • Can you slow the scan rate of VI Logger scans per minute

Can you set up a logging task with VI Logger to log 1 scan per minute? I'm using a DaqCard AI-16E-4 and SCXI 1120 Module.

What do you mean by VI Logger? The easiest way to do what you need is to create a while loop and put in it one of NI's "easy-IO" analog input VIs and a wait function set to 60,000 milliseconds. Depending upon the acquisition VI you use the result would read either one point, or a set of predefined points once a minute. (see attached code)
How much more complicated the application would get depends on such things as what exactly you want to do with the data, and how you want the user interface to react. For example do you need to save the data? If so, you'll need to add a file save function to the loop too. Also, the simple version I attached could take as long as 2 minutes to quit once you press the stop button--which probibly wouldn't be acceptable.
The point is that the basic functionality you asked for is very easy to do. The complicated part is defining all the other stuff that wraps around that simple functionality.

  • P965 NEO Slow IDE DVD/CD drive

    Ok,
I've read some of the articles on problems with CD readers/writers not working or working very slow using this MOBO.
    Here is my problem
I have a SATA hd that has my windows xp OS and it works fine. I installed it from the CD rom no problem.
The only problem I have is the CD/DVD rom appears to work very slowly in Windows.
****I am not running any raid devices.****
Should I have to install a JMICRO driver just to get my CD/DVD writer to function properly? I looked for a driver using the links I found in this forum but didn't find any. Im not sure if I even need one.
Has anyone solved this problem that isn't using Raid? I'd rather not install a driver if I do not need it.
    Thanks,
    JIm

After my current install is done I'm going to try this driver that remus suggests. As he had the identical problem I have. I tried that link above but it aimed at a 64bit driver? Not sure about that one if this doesnt work Illl try that one.
The problem is solved now (I had to waste enough time for that ...).
    The solution: http://www.dieselbenz.info/JMB36X_WinDrv_Beta_R1.17.04.00.rar
It's a beta driver, but this is the answer to all "jMicron on MSI"  bugs.
With that driver I was able to write a full CD at 48X and a full DVD at 8X without any error.
    p.s.
A little piece of advice for MSI team:
The current v1.5 BIOS and jMicron driver are buggy (talking about MSI P965-Neo) !
You have to solve this problem as faster as you can because is very annoying and you'll lose customers !

I was seriously bashing my head until I found your post. Even the drivers found on Live Update didn't work. These betas are the shiz. Thanks!

  • Slow IDE Neo2

Sorry to ask such a lame question but sometimes you overlook the obvious.
I have both sata drives set up as master on port 3/4 and Raid0.
Is that OK or should I set it up as Master/Slave or whatever.
I am now working on my 12th time installing Raid0 with XP.

    Drive 0
    Model wd1200jd-00GBB0
    Firmware 02.05D02
    Drive 1
    Model wd1200jd-00FYB0
    Firmware 02.05D02
    I give up.
I had no problems with these two drives on my ASUS A7NBX (Nvidia2) MB.
Raid0 was super fast using Silicon Image Drivers.
    Again, thanks for the help.
    PS
I tested these two drives with anything I can find, WD utilities, hdtach an so on and all results were good and practically identical.  Do you know if there are other drivers I can try besides Nvidia?

  • Slow IDE connection?

i am having trouble with a KT4 Ultra. Everything seems to be running so slowly. I build a new setup with it, but installing windows xp took 7 hours! I tried all the other components with a different mobo and it worked fine. This leads me to believe it's a faulty motherboard. Unless anyone else knows otherwise?

    Hi,
Try clearing the CMos and only set the CPU-FSB right...

I'm absolutely sure the disk is not damaged.
The problem arose some time ago, probably after a kernel upgrade and it's very annoying. Desktop is nearly unusable when the disk is accessed and transferring data is a nightmare. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Does this always happen? For me it only occurs after I suspend.

  • 6500 scan option in solution center reacts extremely slow

Problem 1.It usually takes 5-8 mins for the scan window to show up after I press "scan to file" in solution center. This 6500 is extremely slow. I have had other hp all-in-one before and scanning has never been a problem.  I don't know how I would solve this. So I started searching a scan option shortcut. No luck yet. Anyone knows where I can find the shortcut? Problem 2.Since it's so slow to scan from the solution center, I tried to do it from the panel. However, when I pressed the scan button, it showed "scan menu: select computer". Then I pressed "OK", it showed "no scan options".I have searched online and it seems like a popular problem. I have tried all the methods found online, but nothing worked.  Thank you. I hope someone could help me on this. It's really frustrating.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are having trouble scanning with your HP Officejet 6500, on Windows 7. I am happy to look into this scanning issue for you!  To make sure I know the exact printer that you have, what is your printer's Product/Model Number? (ie: HP Officejet 6500 e710a, etc.) To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. To verify the printer's hardware is functional, are you able to make copies with the printer?  In the meantime, I would recommend to try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!  Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • HP Scan Application has stopped working Windows 7 64bit

The HP Scan 3.5 works better - it will scan pictures but the program must restart after each scan.  Also the scans are really slow, other scanning programs work fine, Microsoft Live Photo Gallery and Picasa 3 in particular.  I would prefer to use the HP program; it should take less steps to scan.
    any ideas?
    thanks
