Can anyone help me. i am running windows xp with service pack 3 and i am running itunes 9. i have no problems importing songs from the itunes store when i am online . however when i want to import a cd into itunes, the import times are extremely slow. importing around .06x not like i use to 2-3x .im not sure which settings need to be changed. seems like this happened after updating windows.any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi sadielexus1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If your imported music never syncs to your iPhone, you may want to try un-checking and then re-checking the "Sync music" checkbox in iTunes by following the steps in the article below:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad

New update causes painfully slow import time
Is anyone else feeling the pain of REALLY slow imports? On a typical shoot, I may have more than 1,000 images to import. I never had a problem before this recent update to 3.3.1. Before, it took, I don't know, maybe 20 minutes to upload all the photos (RAW 12 megapixel files), plus some time for processing. Now, it takes 20 minutes to import just 75 images. So last night, I did the import of 900 before I went to sleep. I imagine it took two or more hours.
I have the previews set to standard, and nothing else appears to be different from before. It just seems kind of ridiculous.Your Aperture library may be damaged. I did not notice any new slowness when importing with Aperture 3.3.1. If your Aperture library is causing this, then the import should be much faster, if you import into a new, empty library - you may want to make test import to compare import times.
If it is indeed the library, use the Aperture "Library First Aid Tools" to repair the permissions and to repair the database:

Anyone Else Experiencing Slow Import Times in Aperture?
I"ve been a Aperture user from the beginning.
Recently I've noticed a slow down in the processing and overall speed of the program espeically importing of images. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
No it's not my RAM got plenty thank you.... I've been working on this machine Mac Book Pro 15" for the last 2 yrs.
My last import involved 1500 images Large jpg format and it took over 45mins! NOT normal. Considering I normally shoot RAW with a Nikon D800. Huge files in comparision.
I've had a couple of Database Rebuilds which have been a new occurence as well. Just recently started a NEW library on a new set of external G-Raid drives to hopefully CYA if this is just a symptom of something to come.
If you have any valueable feedback it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. Whenever I import a folder of MP3s, iTunes will, more often than not, stall for 10 minutes or so before actually processing the files. In Task Manager, Itunes appears as unresponsive, and it shows CPU usage by iTunes to be mostly zero. However, Disk Usage shows it to be reading dozens or even hundreds of unrelated random music files during this time, all under one PID. When the processing is finished, the disk reads disappear.
This only happens about 40 percent of the time. Other times, it processes the files speedily. No major quality loss I'm assuming? I may try it for tomorrow's video and see what happens. It's worth a shot. I rarely use iMovie. I'm an armature at this. Much of what I edit is done on a Mac pro that's not mine. I also import and encode pro res but it when I'm Pulling in full 1080p footage from real cameras. Most times that part is done fore and I simply edit and send to compressor. Never thought this little job would cause me so much grief. And I thought I was smart using my phone and a touch as cameras to be quicker yet just as quality.

Intermittently slow load times from iTunes, while Netflix
TV shows from iTunes sometimes take a long time to load, while content from Netflix & Hulu seem fine. Why does iTunes sometimen indicate that it may take over an hour to load a 45min TV show?
Netflix/Hulu adapts to the connection in order to stream instantly. iTunes content is fixed and will start once enough has loaded. The time it takes is dependent on your network.
720P requires minimum 6mbps for instant stream
1080p needs 8mbps
Check speedtest.net to verify
Interference can also play a role, check istumbler or netstumbler to verify
Male sure you are on your ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic) -
Slow read times from external drive (10KB/s)
Hi all,
I have a nice external setup that includes two WD 500GB drives linked up with firewire. I usually copy stuff I want to keep into drive A and then use rsync to sync between the two disks (A and B). Today I've copied some new files into drive A and then used rsync to sync into drive B. Some of the files were copied at normal rate, but to my surprise most of the files were copied extremely slow - about 10KB/s!!! (all the files are at the same size). I did managed to read all the files, but very slowly.
So to take rsync out of the equation I've tried to copy the files manually via finder, and it was also extremely slow.
I've also verified the following:
* Reading same files from drive B - fast as normal.
* connecting drive A by USB - still slow
* disk utility repair and verify - all are OK
The disk is not clicking or making funny noises.
I am not sure what could be the problem, maybe it has to do with the file system? Any idea what could it be?
Thanks!Try using Disk Utility to repair the disk. Note that I am not referring to the repair disk permissions button on the left. I am referring to the repair disk button on the right of the Disk Utility window.

Slow login time from GDM to Gnome
Hello everyone,
for a long time now I have been experiencing very slow login procedures. It takes about 40 to 60 seconds after I entered my password to get to Gnome shell (almost feels like Windows).
There have been discussions about similar problems (e.g https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=98901) and I have read a lot of them, but never found a solution.
Isn't there some kind of log file where I can see what's taking so long?
any help would be appreciated!

Iphoto, slow import problem from SD
Hallo to everyone,
I have a strange problem since I have have update Iphoto '11 a few day ago.
When I insert the SD card, the icon appears in finder and Iphoto loads, BUT the icon of the SD card in the program need much more time to appears, 2 o 3 minutes; also there are 2 icons of the same card with the same content. I tried to format the card and to repair permissions, but with no positives results.
Any ideas?The SanDisk website has a PDF owner's guide that says the following;
Macintosh Disk Icons: When you connect the MicroMate Reader/Writer on a Macintosh operating system, a removable disk icon labeled
“untitled” representing the MicroMate Reader/Writer will show on the desktop when a card is inserted.
It also has directions to drag the removable disk icon labeled “untitled” to the trash to remove the disk. There is also a support link to a ebox page on a secure site that won't let me go farther (I think I need a newer browser), so I can't find drivers.
My problem is that the icon doesn't show up and I can't find it in any applications I try. I know the Disney camera is a toy, its for my 5 year old, but I am having the identical problem with both the Disney camera and SanDisk. -
Slow response times from App World support
Anyone have an email address to contact a manager or supervisor at Blackberry App World support? It's been months and can't get a timely response regarding a purchase made using my credit card. App never worked as promised and Blackberry kept my money and now ignores my emails. Very frustrating.
Hello josephobryan1
Which application is this ?
Before buying any application we should always read reviews of that application, it give us a little idea about that app.If you're not satisfied with that app , have you written a negative review for that application ,you should because your review will help other user when they go through it.
Contacting BlackBerry directly is not a proper way to resolve your issue , if you try to contact BlackBerry it will charge you but you should contact your Service provider for any assistance from BlackkBerry , they can forward it for you and it will be free . But in your situation you should contact the vendor of that application and let him know that you're not satisfied , so that he can improve this app .

Long import times Ricoh GX100 to LR versions 1.3 & 1.4
Compared with importing 10mp raw files originated in a Pentax K10D, similar size files from my new Ricoh GX100 seem to take an eternity. (10x longer is typical). I shoot and record DNG files in both cameras which should import into Lightroom without problems. I use SanDisk Ultra II 2Mb cards in both cameras.
Has anyone experienced such lengthy import times from the GX100? If not, can anyone suggest the cause and a possible remedy? (The Ricoh GX100 won several awards last year so I cannot believe the camera is intrinsically slow).
Many thanks
DavidDon, thank you for your ideas. I have carried out a trial shooting the same scene five times on the same SD card in the K10D and GX100. In each case I formatted the card in the respective camera. The card was a SanDisk Ultra II.
I then imported each batch of five pictures into LR copying the photos to a new folder, importing and rendering the new images.
The K10D completed the task in 4 min 20 seconds
The GX100 completed the task in 16 minutes 50 seconds.
K10D file size is 16.25mb and measures 3872x2592 pixels
GX100 files size is 14.44mb and measures 3648 x 2736 pixels
So you can see that import and rendering times are about four times longer for the Ricoh files. But, the Pentax files are slightly bigger. You can see why downloading 100 files gets frustrating!
I wonder whether DNG files conform tightly to a standard. (Only Adobe would be able to tell that). I used one card in my experiment in case an earlier card of like specification performed more slowly. The scenes were identical to minimize another variable.
Windows XP 2Gz Pentium 4 processor and loads of memory.
Puzzling, isn't it?

Has anyone noticed how much slower it is to import photos from iphone to iphoto
has anyone noticed how much slower it is to import photos from iphone to iphoto in Mac OS.?
How many photos do you have in your iPhoto library? As your library grows, it will take more time to load when the app launches.Personally, I have not noticed any slowdown.
And my question was meant to find out whether you import process had gotten slower than...a year ago, a month ago, compared to other photo apps? Running Mountain Lion..since you upgraded? In the end..what? Hence, I asked.
Try being clearer next time. That way we don't have to beat around the bush when trying to help you. -
when im importing songs from a cd to itunes it is soooooo slow. the time it takes to import the song i could have played it twice! This isnt a major problem as it is still in working order but the speed is rediculous. Does anyone know if there is a setting which i can adjust the speed that songs copy from a cd????? if someone could help it would be great....for my sanity's sake!!!!
I have an elderly Toshiba running XP Pro-SP 2. With iTunes 6.0x I was able to import CD's at 4X-6X. Considering the CD Drive maxes out at 8X - that was OK. Well, 7.0 imported at .1X that is POINT ONE X. And "upgrade" to 7.0.1 increased the speed to a wopping .8X.
I tried making a second library. That got me up to 2X. (My library is over 20Gig - so it seemed to fall into the large library problem zone.)
I went back to 6.0.4 - I am not a happy camper since I couldn't find a "recent" copy of an older version of iTunes. Ended up "rebuilding" my library - lost playlist in the process.
I am happy to have 6.0.4 back and running. I never connected my iPod to 7.0 -
It will be a long time before I install a new version of iTunes. There was no reason for me to upgrade. I was just a little bored when iTunes announced "New Version - want to upgrade?" My fault.
Thanks for listening to my crabbing.

Slow Loading data from DB, one record at a time, HOW?
I am currently doing a project....
I need to display a record of data on a "form"(JFrame)
the way i handle it is
1. Load first record
2. pass to the display object
3. display object -> on click next, call manager object to process the request
4. manager, get next record with the help of DBManager
5. manager, set the record into the display object
6. manager, command object to refresh screen...
manager contains DBManager and disply instance....
it work perfectly fine for the first 20 or so record, but after some time, every click is slowed down about 20 over times...
i.e. first record take .5 sec, 50th take 30 sec
I traced the memory usage it is ok... but what could the problem be???
Memory usage list...

I was wondering about a compelling reason, why you want to go back to the database on every click. I would fetch "X" rows at a time from the Database and cache them as Value Objects. X could be 10 or even 100. It depends on your requirements.
As far as the performance going down there could be lot of reasons. Do you open and close the connection on every click. How many connections are open at a time? do you close the connection? or the connection is alive?

How to import mailboxes from Time Machine to new Mac
I had Time Machine backing up our old G5. We got a Mac Pro back in November and I never was able to import the mail from the G5 to the Mac Pro so I left it alone and just kept using mail on the old G5. Well, the G5 took a dump last monday. I currently have the Time Machine backup for that computer connected to our Mac Pro (but not using it as backup yet). So, the mail from the G5 should be on the Time Machine backup right? If so, can I import it into Mail on the Mac Pro?
I also pulled one of the hard drives from the G5 and have it in the Mac Pro in the 2nd bay just to make sure that HD wasn't dead. It works fine and I tried importing the .mbox files from that drive but it appears that all the mail on that particular drive are from like 2006. So, again, I need to find out how to import mail from the Time Machine drive. Any thoughts?
10.7.4
Mail 5.2Back up what data? Mail data? I don't have any yet. I haven't used Apple Mail on this Mac Pro yet.
Edit: Launching Mail and holding Option right afterwards does nothing. Holding down option and then launching Mail does nothing.
Oooooh.... launching time machine while holding down option......
Edit again.... I don't have a Time Machine menu because that disk is not currently set up as time machine for the Mac Pro yet. I don't want to use it as a backup for this computer yet. I just want to be able to pull some of the backed up contents from it until I'm set. -
IPhoto quits unexpectedly every time I try to import photos from iPhone
Hi
I'm struggling with what seems a common problem... But I looked at some of the solutions and they are not working for me. iPhoto quits when I try to import photos from iPhone.
I tried to look for the 3ivx file/folder that has been mentioned as the solution, but I don't even have the folder. I've updated iPhoto, it's the latest version: 9.2.3

1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
