Slow & Incomplete Syncs

Ipod Touch 5g : 64G  on IOS 8.1.1
Plug it into PC running Windows 7 Home Premium and Itunes 12.0.1.26
Syncing is SO slow.  Ipod has 27G open on it and it still takes FOREVER to sync.  I always get several error messages saying the ipod can't be read or there is a communication problem...then seconds later the sync starts anyway.  It takes a L-O-N-G time (hour at times) and almost NEVER syncs the music properly.  It often gets hung up on steps 5 or 6 and sometimes times out during those steps.  Even when it does seem to go through all the sync steps and finish properly, the music is never correct.  Playlists checked off to be applied during a sync are missing...or only some of the songs are there.  I told it to delete all the music (to try to get a fresh start) and it said it went through all steps (taking forever) and was done...but music is still there, playlists still there, all playable.  I chose to MANUALLY manage music...but what is the point.
My ipod touch 4G NEVER had any syncing problems.  I have complained and looked to apple for help dozens of times.  They route me through a dozen "geniuses" on chat or call who want to do the same basic stuff again and again.  Then they get to the point where the sync is happening, taking forever and so they swear it's "all fixed now" and end the chat or call.  Hours later, sync ends and nothing is fixed, then I have to begin all over again.  Have been escalated to "senior" techs and "master" techs.  Spend hours on the phone with them trying a string of unrelated things.  Then they tell me to try "giving the ipod a rest" and syncing it up again.  Same story...sync takes hours, they're off the phone and I'm right back where I started...minus hours and hours and hours of my life.
What's the fix / answer?  What do I do?

Sounds like an intermittent contact porblem
- Try another cable.
- Try another USB port
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen 64Gb EXTREAMLY slow to sync

My iPod Touch 4th Gen seems to have, in recent weeks, slowed down syncing. I have made no changes, and only use it for music, yet when new music goes on, it takes around 1.5mins per track to sync. The files size per track is the 5MB (192kbps MP3). So I am a little stumped as to explain why it is being so slow, and I do not have time to restore if I am to get the tracks back onto the iPod before I go away on a 2 day course tomorrow.
Sync over USB, iOS 6.0.1, iTunes 11.0.1.12
    Any ideas, please tell me.

Now it's doing it with all my music.I have reset the iPod,restored to a back up and even to factory setting and it's still doing it.my mates iPod still has 4.3.5 and the album plays only one song but mine wants to play 2songs at the time it only stated doing this after the iOS 5 update  I kept a back up of my iPods 4.3.5 on a USB hard disk if I restore to iPod to that back up will the iPod go the 4.3.5?

  • Why is iTunes is extremely slow to sync suddenly?

Recently iTunes has become incredibly slow to sync. While syncing to my 1st gen iPad, the app is making progress but it is soooo slow. Trying to interfere results in beachballing. I seem to have noticed the change after two recent things have happened.
First, I started using iPhoto and syncing photos to my iPad, where before I was just syncing a few photos direct from a Finder folder. Second, was the most recent iTunes update. Note that all of iTunes is slow as soon as I hit sync - it is not the photos portion holding up or their initial optimization. Also, I synced photos after I started using iPhoto successfully a few times before this happened, which makes me lean more towards a problem with the update perhaps?
I am running Lion on a 2008 iMac. Everything is up do date.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advace.

Apparently it's something related to the external HDD (500GB WD MyBook) which stores all of my iTunes music and movies. Everything syncs when I disconnect the HDD. I still haven't solved the problem, but I can at least sync photos/apps/whatever else isn't on the drive, and have eliminated iPhoto as a possible cause.

  • Slow to sync on iPhone 4 on one PC only

    Hi
We have two Windows 7 PC's, two iPhone 4's and one old nano.
Both iPhones and the nano sync perfectly on the first PC.
On the second PC (new W7 build) the nano is OK but the iPhones are so slow to sync music.
Itunes appears to stop, v low cpu activity.
The USB ports are OK backing up in itunes and for transferring 100s of Gb to and from an external disc.
Tried cables & ports without joy.
Cannot explain why nano is OK and iPhones are not.
    Any suggestions most appreciated.

I have solved this problem by installing an £9.99 internal 5 port USB2 PCI card.
Even though normal syncing speed has now returned I am still at a loss as to the root cause of the problem but based on the testing and analyis done I would bet my money on a problem with the Apple USB driver.
It was working before the latest iPhone4 OS and iTunes updates and not working after.
I guess I will now never prove it

  • Multiple empty playlists, iTunes freezes, incomplete syncs

I have a PC...don't hold it against. My iTunes freezes, I have incomplete syncs and a ridiculous number of empty playlists. I have some computer sense ( in other words if you are patient I have no problem trying to make changes to my computer). Was excited for iMatch...now not so much. Suggestions?

Assuming you've posted in the Windows forum because you have a Windows PC...
Click the link for KillEmptyPlaylists to visit the page where it is hosted. Click the link of the same name on that page to download the script to your computer. Double-click the script to run it. (You'll probably get some kind of security warning but your A-V scanner should have been happy with it - it is safe, but then I suppose if I had bad intent I would say that. You'll have to decide whether you think I can be trusted.). The script will ask you to make sure that you want it to go ahead, and then delete all the empty playlists for you if you want.
If you actually have a Mac I can point you in the right direction for an equivalent script.

  • VERY  VERY slow to sync!!!

Hi I am not sure whether this is the most efficient way to summit my problem but hope you guys can find me the solution.
I brought Itouch early last month but was unable to install and use the itouch probably. The sync function is so slow that eg. It took me the whole day till now (21:36 hk time) to sync my contacts from outlook to the itouch! And this was not the first time I'd experienced this situation.
When I finally sync the contacts, again, the search function was so low. It took like 10seconds to type a character in the search bar and had to wait another 10 seconds to type the others.
You may advice me to reset my itouch and software, but I tried to reset my itouch and restored to software of itune before many times and same thing repeated again and again!
I have to say, after experienced all these, thought the itouch seems to be a fantastic device but the software and user friendliness are disappointing and much backward then other PDA/smart phone type of devices. Can you develop some more user-friendly software for business people who only need is manage contacts, reading files and connecting online? What I need is software that I can direct transfer my staff from the computer to itouch, it just took ages to do this using itune! The games are good but they are only complementary.
Secondly, I just brought software--abgrougs, which was supposed to be helping me to categorize my contact and let me search my contacts by company name, but I was unable to do that. Can you advice the solution?
    Million thanks.

Same problem here. I spend a week thinking iTunes was locked up, killing it, and insanely doing it over and over again.
Is there some process we can collectively get Apple to look at this? I have spoken to support 3 times, and visited the Geniuses at the store, and while they all seem to want to help, they continue to give me the same bad advice, over and over... reinstall itunes, restore your phone.
I suspect this problem will just magically go away in the next itunes release, but I'd really like someone just once to tell me, hey there was a problem, we know what it was and we fixed it. Here's the details...

  • Slow iPod sync with network drive

I run a small network for my home/office (I am self employed) with about 4 PCs for me and my family.
We have 3 iPods in our family and we just use one PC to host iTunes, but because we have so much music, I have put the music on a network drive served from my file server (Windows Small Business Server - Windows Server 2003 based).
There's no problem with this setup, except one:
I've noticed that when iPods sync with iTunes, it takes a very long time, perhaps 5 times as long than when I had my music files on an external hard drive directly connected to the PC on which we run iTunes.
This is fustrating. My question is: is there anything that can be done about this ?
I can't really understand why this should be an issue. iTunes has, stored in the library files on my local PC, the details of all my music files. So when my iPod syncs, surely iTunes consults the iPod and consults what is in iTunes and figures out what should change - and then and only then should iTunes need to connect to the network drive to actually get any necessary files. Is my understanding wrong of what iTunes is doing when syncing an iPod ?
The issue is that even with no changes, sync-ing is an issue.
Any help on this gratefully received - have looked in this forum and other places, but haven't managed to trawl and info on my issue.

Having been given an iPod video 60Gig as a present, I am sometimes forced to use it.
Recently I tried - I downloaded and installed latest itunes 7.5 on the PC running Windows XP.
Built up the library of music - tried to do a sync. So slow I nearly hit the PC. The transfer rate would merely get 40 Meg on in 5 minutes (thats my estimate all I know is it never finished). I tried to leave it running for 3 hours and still not finished - the size of music to transfer was about 2400 songs.
I then tried to use Vista Home Basic - with itunes 7.5 - it wouldnt even recognize the ipod.
After a few days of giving up and banging my head against the wall I tried Linux too - but that was slow too.
I eventually went back to Vista and de-installed itunes 7.5 - found version 6.05 and installed it. It went through like clockwork (well as clockwork as can be it was magically fast but fast enough to fill half of the 60Gig).
I then had the magic idea - why not update to 7.5 from 6.05 and guess what - its slow again painfully slow.

  • Pacman is horribly slow to sync with Community.

I've really had this problem ever since I started using Arch and I figured I was just screwing something up so I'm here to find out what.
So of course I always run rankmirrors after a new install and currently my mirrors are.
    Server = http://archlinux.umflint.edu/$repo/os/x86_64
    Server = http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/d … /os/x86_64
    Server = http://mirror.rit.edu/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64
    Server = http://mirror.umoss.org/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64
And when I run a pacman -Syy (or just Sy) core and extra are almost instant, then it will hang on community for like 10-15 seconds (which seems like forever) and then will finally sync. Nothing else seems to be wrong, downloading packages from community is fast as I would expect. I'm on cable with a download of 1.5 MB/s and and upload of about 60 KB/s. This happens at my friends house, and at my work as well.
    Am I doing something wrong?
NOTE: This also happens when using yaourt.

I too have this issue. I have an 8yo PATA HDD and even syncing extra after a longer break is slow. But I run pacman and in the meantime I check email, rss etc. so I'm fine.
Edit: Here's one way to fix it http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8586
Yes I know, but if you do a ls -1 | wc -l on extra, you'll see that there are 2441 directories and if you do it on community you'll see that there are only 1930. One would think that it would take a longer to sync extra (which literally takes like 2 seconds) than community.
I'll try some of the other things listed here (pacman-cage has sparked my interest) and if that doesn't work, using a different file system for /var and see if that helps.

  • Mac Mail slow to sync after upgrade Yosemite 10.10.2 and OS X Server 4.0.3

We have deployed server OS X Server 4.0.3 and all client computer configured with DNS, Open Directory and Mail Server of OS X Server 4.0.3. It is quick to deliver mail before upgrade. And it is quick to deliver mail from iOS now. But it too slow to use Mac Mail. Even send to myself from intranet it costs 3 mins.

I have no solution but have experienced failing sync settings (quite often) in both 10.6 Server and 10.9 + Server 3 (upgraded from 10.6 Server) in the same way as you described, it syncs too much. We have given up on synched home folders and will cut them and use other backup methods since we’re not so dependant on switching between different devices. Our users usually have one computer, one iPhone, one iPad and stay with those until it’s time to exchange them.

  • Incomplete Sync Labels in iTunes

After updating to Apple TV software 2.0.2 the sync label in iTunes is incomplete.
Only the first and the Photo label is displayed. No music, no movie, no podcast label.
There was no problem with software 1.0
I already did a reset of Apple TV - without success. The Apple TV label bar in iTunes still remains incomplete.

I have the same problem and cannot see anyplace to turn syncing on. Is it in iTunes or on the ATV?

  • Advanced suggestions for slow iPod sync?

A few weeks after I upgraded to iTunes 7, I noticed that my 60GB iPod was taking several hours to sync. Using Task Manager, I found that everything is fine for about 30 seconds after starting the sync, then the processor pegs to 100%, making the system unusable. I have tried doing all of the "R"s, and also followed the tip of changing the Windows drive letter. I've also tried changing various options (disable disk use, only sync music, only sync podcasts, etc) but with no success. Can anyone offer any other suggestions? This has become an impossible situation. Thank you.

  • After 10.5.7 update, extremely slow home sync

After updating the server to 10.5.7, the 'full' sync at login/logout has become extremely slow. On a sub-spec Leopard machine like a 500MHz G4 it actually took 30 minutes to log in because of slow syncing. On a MacBook (Core Duo) it takes 15 minutes. It takes long checking, it is very slow syncing, and finishing takes another 4-5 minutes.
On 10.5.6 it was OK. Both clients have been updated to 10.5.7 client. Multiple login/logouts do not change anything. Logging out (15min sync) and immediately logging in results in another 15min sync.
Most of the time seems spent syncing of Library/PubSub. It may be just 1.5MB or so, but it takes ages.
I am using server side file tracking.
Anything I can try to do to make this usable again?

I first removed syncing ~/Library/PubSub but this did not help too much.
I removed the contents of ~/.FileSync from clients (2) and server. Since the clients have FileVault home dirs that requires being logged in everywhere.
The old SQLite db in ~/.FileSync directory was 16MB, the new one 1.8MB. After that, I have seem an improved responsiveness. Still not something extremely fast, but good enough.
It would be good if there was some sort of 'reclaim' functionality in the SQLite db that underlies home syncing, just like there is for FileVaulted home directories.

  • ITunes is slow while syncing my devices over WiFi

    Hi,
I'm using Win Vista HP x64 and iTunes 10.5.1.42.
When I sync my iPhone 4S (5.0.1) and iPad 2 (5.0.1) with WiFi iTunes seems to be very slow.
The problem is, iTunes is syncing automatically when I start it.
    What can I do?

Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.
