Slow Internet on Windows Side

Hi, I have a macbook pro and recently partitioned my hard drive with Windows XP yesterday. On the mac side my internet runs great, but on the windows side (using internet explorer) it takes more than 5 minutes for any website to load, if at all. My wireless internet connection strength reads as excellent. Any ideas, why this is happening and how to fix it?

Try using a different browser, eg. Firefox or Chrome.

  • Slow internet vs windows xp on college network

i own a macbook and at my college the internet is ungodly slow, so i got the idea one day to boot into windows. and to my surprise windows internet is extremely fast i was geting speeds in the megabits for downloads and mebabit for upload. when running the speed test under mac all i get is around 100 kbps download and 100 kbps upload. i have tried changing everything i can think of to no success.
and yes i have talked to the resnet people and they are of no help. is there a difference between the way networking works on windows and mac? any ideas of what to do to speed the connection up

    Hi Joe,
College networks can have a lot of unusual security monitoring systems in place, so it's conceivable that they limit non-PC speed, but as you said, you've checked that.
There is a known issue with some Gigabit Ethernet capable Macintosh systems and some switches. This problem can be fixed by software configuration, so it's possible Windows automatically does it, but MacOS doesn't. Have a look at the instructions specified in this Apple article and see if it helps: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303660

  • Can't Connect to the Internet on Windows side

I am unable to get an internet connection via windows XP. The connection is fine on the Mac side. Are there drivers that were not installed when boot camp was installed? If so, what are they and where are they? Thanks

If you are using a 24" iMac ( 07 ) that has the broadcom wireless N card in it then I would recommend the drivers from Dell. They worked better for me than the pre packaged old half-*** attempt from Apple The chipset I have is branded the Dell 1505 ( with N ).

  • Macbook can't get on internet on Windows side unless I use Ethernet.

I am trying to connect to the internet with my Macbook booted in Windows. My airport is wide open with no password needed. My mac OS connects fine. I have a macbook with bootcamp. Windows connects to the internet without a problem if I use ethernet directly from the modem into the macbook. If I use the airport, my windows booted macbook sees the network, says it is connected with an excellent signal. I cannot get on the internet. What gives?

You'll probably get more help if you post in the MAC forum and not the iphone forum.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) fresh install, only WLAN and video driver installed but EXTREMELY slow internet connection...

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
    o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!
Thanks in advance to all and for any advice.

    isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.NavigateComplete(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, url); } function Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw");
    if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; </script>

Thank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
    my Asus machine.

  • Windows XP SP3 Slow Internet, Urgent

Hello, I partitioned Windows XP SP3 on a 200 gb partition. I installed all the Boot Camp Drivers, Installed all the Windows Updates, and although my internet speed seems fine. However when i attempt to download, my download speed is around 1mbps. I checked this on speedtest . And When i load up in Leapord, my download speed is at 25 mbps. I am desperately trying to find a solution, I have already tried to re-install XP, and to no avail. Any help would be great. I'm at my wits end.
    Thank you!

re: slow internet on boot camp... I have similar problem. Internet on Mac os side = 5.75 Mbps and on xp side about 1.75 mbps. I'm on xp sp3, boot camp (recent clean install). May try this driver replace idea. Any other ideas out there?
I was careful too with the procedure on install and updating to boot camp 2.1 before sp3.

  • New iMac running lion 10.7.2...partitioned drive for  windows xp pro ...successfully installed...up and running(duel boot) but no internet connection on windows side...need drivers?.....please help

new imac running lion 10.7.2     partitioned HD for duel boot and successfully installed windows xp pro (sp2)....have internet through eithernet cable on the mac side but no internet connection on the windows side....need drivers????   please help

I too am running xp spiii on my mac with lion. However I installed xp while running snow leopard then upgraded to lion and both are running fine. If you have the support disc that came with the imac all the relevant drivers are on there. The only other thing i would suggest is that you get spiii and upgrade to that.
    Hope that helps

  • Loss of internet connection from windows side of imac duo core

I have cable modem as internet hookup. When I am in Mac I have no problems, but every time I either change to the Windows side, or the computer is turned off or goes off, when Windows comes up, I can't access the internet.
I have gone into control panel and it states that the cable modem is unplugged or not connected. I then have to literally unplug the cable from the computer, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in.
This has been going on several months and started after I had a cable issue at the house and the cable guys came out and fixed it. they changed some things on my computer.
I think something on the MAC side was actually changed and that is impacting the windows side.
Prior to that I could access the internet from either side w/no problem.
Now, even if I unplug the cable and then plug it in, the computer is not recognizing that the cable is plugged in. As you can see, I am still having NO problem w/the MAC side.
Any ideas what command or default setting might have been changed to impact the Windows side in this fashion. thanks

what is the firmware version on the router?? try reducing MTU to 1452...let me know if you have any issues will get back to you.
    thanks

  • Internet stopped working on Windows side

For some reason my internet connection just stopped working on the Windows side of my MBP. Last week I was using it, and one minute it worked, the next it didn't. I didn't make any changes to settings, etc.... Not only does it not work with my wireless setup (1TB Time Capsule), but I also tried plugging directly into my modem, which didn't work.
Internet is working fine on the Mac side of the computer.
I'm kind of in a jam... I need to use Internet Explorer to run my payroll software (That's about the only thing I use it for), so any help will be appreciated. Otherwise, nobody will get paid next week... lol.
FYI... I use VMWare Fusion to run Windows XP.

Never mind... It started working again after I messed with some of the DNS/IP settings. I don't really know what I did to make it work, but it does.

  • Slow Internet connected to Windows 2003

Recently our company changed their server to a Windows 2003 server. Ever since, all the macs running os x have really slow internet access. The PC's are fast. Does anyone have any idea if there are settings on the mac that need to be changed or on the server?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Hi, please can somebody help. I have a MacBook Pro and i am connecting to a windows 2003 server using microsoft remote desktop connection. I need to print on the printer connected to my mac. How do I get windows to see the printer that is connected to my Mac?
It looks like you have to have a postscript printer (i.e. a laser printer). I have been trying to solve this problem for some time with no luck so far.

  • Bootcamping windows and no internet on windows 8 side?

    Hi,
I recently boot camped my 2014 macbook pro with windows 8. I thought I had done everything correctly until I fired up the windows partition and I was unable to connect to the wifi. It appears as if the windows side cannot access the macs built in wifi, which works flawlessly on the OSx partition... Any information on how to proceed?

Then you are going to have to contact VMware. I have found their support to be pretty good. But support is optional with them. If your support has run out, or you did not purchase it to start with, e-mail is all you get. Other tools may also help, remember google is your friend.
A call to Apple will not help (their computer works fine) nor will a call to Microsoft (their OS is working... at least sort of). You have a problem with networking while using Windows on your Mac under VMware.
The only time I have that problem is when I have screwed up the IP addressing on windows. NAT requires IP and DNS to be set to automatic under windows.

  • Fix For Slow Safari On Windows

A number of people reported that Safari was running very slow for them on Windows. I was someone who was also seeing the same behavior. Web pages that would open up in 2 seconds under IE7 could take literally minutes to fully draw in Safari.
Someone mentioned a proxy issue in one of the other threads, and I got to thinking about that...I made a tiny change, and the problem is gone! Safari is now full steam ahead for me, compared to the snail is was before.
Here is how I fixed the issue.
1 - Click Start and open the Control Panel.
2 - Open the "Internet Options" Control Panel.
3 - Click the "Connections" tab at the top.
4 - Click the "LAN Settings" button at the bottom.
5 - Uncheck the "Automatically Detect Settings" Box.
6 - Click OK to exit the "LAN Settings" window.
7 - Click OK to exit the "Internet Options" window.
Your mileage may vary, but this really did work for me. Nothing else I had tried (clearing the cache, re-installing, etc.) made a difference...but this did. Not sure why it's not affecting everyone, but this doesn't seem to have any negative side effects. IE7 is still working fine for me with the "Automatically Detect" box unchecked.
    Enjoy!

  • IMac & Macbook running slower than a Windows computer

Hello all, I need some help with my apple products.  I spend half my day messing with the internet to try and get it going instead of sitting there with a blank look on its face.  They freeze up to an extent.  I generally can always close out Safari, shut off the wifi, then turn wifi on and safari will work somewhat better sometimes.  Here is the Etre report for both the iMac and MacBook.  Also on the MacBook report, I was digging around in my system report and found something that made me think it might be bad so i have included it as well.  Please help me and keep me from wasting half my day every day.  Thanks.  There is several extra lines after the Macbook report that came from my system report.  I don't know if it is pertinent or not but I feel like it is.  I wasn't sure what to leave out so I just put it all in, sorry for the long post.
Note----- I took out the logs that were from the previous address I lived at.  Just included from when I moved into new house.
    THIS IS FOR THE iMac
    Problem description:
Ever since I moved into this new house my apple computers have slowed down to granny speed and sometimes they just sit there and stare at you.  I have an iMac from 2011, a mac book pro 2014, iPhone 6, iPhone 4s, and to top it off a windows computer that is used for graphic software.  I have 2 TV’s that we use as well.  My internet and cable are provided by ATT and at my old house it worked great, no problems.  I have had ATT out twice since install in January.  They have given me a new modem, and a booster to help increase the reach of the wireless internet.  My internet is supposed to be 18mbs download and for the life of me can’t think of the upload speed.  When testing I usually have a 10 to 11 download and a 1.80 upload speed.  I have ran verify disk, fix permissions so many times and that it is ridiculous.  My iMac is used in the back room which is about 30 feet from modem, that is why they gave me the booster the 2nd time out.  The macbook is used just whereever.  The speed of the Mac’s is slower then the Windows computer.  That ain’t right.  I don’t download anything, I don’t go to crazy suspect sites.  I have taken the iMac to apple store and they tested it and said it was fine.  I have re-installed the O.S. (Yosimiteme 10.10.3).  I just want my apples to work properly again.

Ok, I don't know what those drivers are for??????  I don't have a clue   Here is what it looks like when I do the option thing.  Hopefully its ok to post that.  I went into system preference and went to network and DNS server as a ip number and search domains as attlocal.net not sure thats correct, but that is what my phone had.  Anyway it started working good for a while now it is just going slow again.  I don't have anything set up for the tab 802.1X and my proxies is blank in the protocol to configure (nothing checked( and I a have this *.local, 169.254/16 in the bypass proxy setting plus the use passive FTP box is checked. Maybe that will help some.  I will look at the extensions and get rid of them, I thought I had already done that though.  Ok, thanks for the input let me know if any of this helps or what I should do.  Thanks again.
