Slow internet when phone rings

Hi all,
I am fixing the network for a small 2-level office, which is using ADSL Telstra internet.
#1: Level 2 only have an empty rack cabinet. I want to have Internet accessible, how can I check if this cabinet connected to the rack cabinet in the level 1?
#2: Level 1: I've got an EFTPOS connecting to the modem on "phone" port via an ADSL filter/splitter and a Cisco IP phone connecting directly to the modem on a LAN port.
Whenever the phone rings, the Internet connection gets very slowly. Do I need one more ADSL filter for the phone?
And should I upgrade to cable internet?
Any help would be great. Thanks alot in advance.

It would compeltely depend on the configuration of the VoIP connection and any limitations in place as a result of the network of the carrier who are providing the service...  You might be best to contact the provider directly, if that is Telstra, and it is currently under a DOT / Digital Office Technology plan your best bet would be to have a word with the Business team directly or your local Telstra Business Center, they will be able to go over the options and see if they can provide an entire solution which is best suited to the business... on the phone they are on 132000.

  • DSL disconnects from internet when phone rings?

Hi all, hoping you can help me on this.
I'm running DSL and since this past weekend any time the phone rings, my internet connection is lost. There's no light loss on the modem, I just know when my IM  goes down or I lose a page.  I'm running a Westell 2200 modem, nothing between the phoneline and the modem, nothing between the modem and the computer. Any ideas or should I run straight to Customer Support?
    Thanks in advance!
Edit: Forgot to add that I have a splitter on the phoneline and filter on the splitter for the phone.

    Hi Telcoguru, thanks for responding.
I'm not sure what you mean by "in the right direction". The filters I got only went into the jacks one way,the clip piece on the male end to the notch in the female end. Is it possible for these things to wear out over time? I've been a customer of Verizon's for several years now, and have had no upgrades to the filters or modem. It just recently started happening over the weekend and I've not had a chance to call Verizon today since I posted. Thats on the to-do list for tomorrow. I just figured I'd check here first in case I did something inadvertently. However I read that a lot of customers seem to be having this problem lately, albeit in different locations. Not thinking C-O-N-spiracy, but wondering if there's any kind of work going on in all the locales, maybe FIOS wiring? Or it could be we're all working with worn-out Westells.
One way or another, I'll get this resolved.
    Thanks again.

My IPhone's volume is not working. I have checked and tried everything. When I use my headset I can hear when phone rings or receive text msg when I pull the jack out I have no sound on anything

I had this problem with my 4s a couple of times when I'd taken the headphones out and it hasn't registered it. My solution was easy, all I had to do was turn the phone off and then on again.
Although I'm sure you've already tried this its a sometimes forgotten and very easy solution to a lot of problems. I hope you find out what's wrong.

What to do when phone ringer stay on mute

So have you checked the switch on the side of the phone and it is in the proper position?  if it is you might try restarting the phone.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).

  • Wakes from sleep when phone rings

Today I had the Apple USB modem connected to my MBP but it was not connected to the internet and the MBP was in sleep mode opened. When my phone rang, the MBP woke from sleep. I didn't know the modem could do that. Is there a setting I can change to stop it from doing that (without having to disconnect the modem itself)?

I have a G5 with internal modem and recently my Mac has been waking from Sleep each time the phone rings. I don't have the system preferences set to do that (and I checked to be sure). I think it may just be since the last OSX update 10.5.7.

  • UCCX Agent Desktop v.7 taking over Windows active session when phone rings

I'm trying to figure out how (if possible) for the Cisco UCCX Agent Desktop application from taking over a users Windows session every time the phone rings.  This is very annoying and takes the end user out of what ever application they are currently in whenever their phone rings.  Does anyone know how to change this?

    Hi Eric,
    Maybe this is better
    Miscellaneous tab options.
    Option Description
Window Behavior Specify how you want the Agent Desktop window to
    behave:
    • Normal. The window appears when calls are
    present and minimizes when idle.
    • Keep Open. The window is always visible, but may
be hidden by other open applications.
    • Always on Top. The window is always visible and on
    top of other open applications.
    • Stealth. The window appears as an icon in the
    system tray.

  • WRT54GS - Slow internet when hooked up

Hi all....I have a WRT54GS (seems to be a popular unit with some issues) and here is my thing:
I hooked it up about two months ago and had no problems with it. Last week, I started having slow internet connections when the router was hooked up. I ran the cable modem straight to the PC and it was fine. I just hooked up the router again and it was horribly slow. I used testmy.net to test my speeds and my download time was about 143 times faster WITHOUT the router (with speedbooster, no less). The only thing I've done is to do a firmware upgrade to the most current version and the major problems began. I checked my setting and they all seem fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? Unfortunately I did not save a copy of the configuration before upgrading. Thanks....

    Thanks for the help.
Here is what I have so far:
    1. ISP is Time Warner Cable, and I am not sure of what I was setup for, but my internet connection icon in my system tray shows 100 Mbps.
    2.  The modem doesn't have a name brand on it that I can find, but the model is 60194E-A02. Google says it is an Ambit modem.
    3.  I used testmy.net for some tests last week and here is what I got (using my laptop):
          a.  Wired to modem directly  - download speed 773 kbps, connection 6.33 Mbps; upload speed 18kbps, connection 0.1 Mbps
          b. Using router - connection was so slow it times out.
So I hooked it to my desktop PC, and ran the tests:
          a. Direct to modem:
Download Connection is:: 7155 Kbps about 7.16 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 873 kB/s
Upload Connection is:: 162 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB)
    Upload Speed is:: 20 kB/s
         b.  Using router:
Download Connection is:: 45 Kbps about 0.05 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 5 kB/s
Upload Connection is:: 17 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
    Upload Speed is:: 2 kB/s
Only other thing I can think of is that I put the new modem beside the router. Earlier today I put the modem back where it was, about three feet away. It actually seems to have helped. Is there a true phenomenon when the units are side-by-side?
    Thanks...Rick Ferguson

  • Why won't flash go off when phone rings anymore?

Used to be, the flash would go off when phone rang. Why'd they change that?

Possibly you turned that feature off. It's in Settings/General/Accessibility.

  • Turn off "Verizon WIreless" message when phone rings

How do I turn off the "Verizon Wireless" voice message that occurs every time my phone rings? It is rather annoying, especially if I go in and out of service areas. Then it flips between "Loss of Service" and "Verizon Wireless" messages, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a minute.

Try turning off the roaming indicator.

  • When Phone Rings My Wireless Network Goes Out

I have 2.4 GHZ phones in the house and I assume that the WRT300N is running the same frequency? I am sure LinkSys thought of this and has a work around. How can I set up my Wireless Router to not go out everytime the phone rings?

Try changing the channel your router operates on.

  • Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop - Intenet (Cable or Wireless) cuts off when phone rings

Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M, processor 1.73GHz 795MHz, 512 MB of RAM.  Internet (cable or wireless - COMCAST service) cuts off when the house phone (AT&T service) rings.  The HP Laptop in the house doesn't have this problem.  COMCAST can't fix the problem.

The only way to fix the problem entirely is to not have any 2.4GHz cordless phones in the house. You can try to change the wireless channel on your router but it probably won't be far enough from the 2.4GHz phones to help. I assume when you say it shares internet you mean that your home computer is connected in the back with ethernet and that is why the internet stays up on it. Your MBP connects wirelessly so it disconnects when the phone is in use.
Go to 192.168.1.1. Log in by leaving username blank and password is admin. [Follow these instructions|http://www.tutorial5.com/content/view/155/79> to change anything you need to (such as if you have unsecured wireless). Click wireless and under basic wireless settings you probably have channel 6 by default. Try channel 1. (Though you can also get into problems with wireless networks of neighbors interfering so download [Airport Radar|http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/airportradar .html] and try to avoid channels that are nearby).
As I said the only solution is not using 2.4GHz phones.

  • Contact Photo size when phone rings

When my iPhone rings, the saved image of the person calling from in contacts takes the entire screen (big picture), but when you watch the Apple commercials, the face appears as a small square in the upper right hand corner next to the name of the person calling.
Is this a setting and how do you change from large photos to small ones? Thanks

If you set a contact photo from the iPhone, it shows up full screen. If you set it on the computer, then it shows up small. Go figure.
No way to change it otherwise. If you like the small photo in the corner, manage all the contact photos on the computer..

  • My iPhone 4 takes pictures when phone rings and alarm goes off.

My camera flash goes off when I receive an incoming call and when my alarm goes off.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
Have you tried ALL the troubleshooting steps?  If you have and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible exchange.
