Slow iTunes start-up

Hello,
I am having some issues with my iTunes. Everything works fine except the start up. When i click the iTunes icon to start it up. It takes anywhere from 4 to 6 minutes, yes MINUTES to start; sometimes more.
I have a great computer! I run everything on maximum settings as well as running games on ultra settings without any problems. ONLY iTunes is painfully slow at starting up.
NOTE: It doesn't matter whether my ipod is connected or not.
PC Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 975 @ 3.33GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
4096MB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series

I had the same problems. Sometimes fast start , sometimes slow start of iTunes. I found out what difference is. First a little context info
I use iTunes with an iPhone to synch everything including the Microsoft Exchange server (email) from work.
Now this is the culprit. iTunes does a perfect job synching everything in both directions. As soon as you connect the iPhone it will pop up and start synching.
So when doesnt it popup and takes a few minutes?
When I am outside the business network and there is no connection to the Exchange server. iTunes seems to try and connect to it (as it should), but the time-our for it seems to be long. If I attached the phone to my laptop and see that I am waiting, I just forgot to setup the VPN connection to work. As soon as I open that connection, iTunes can find the Exchange server right away and opens up.
So in short. Synching with Microsoft Exchange while that server is not available causes a 5 minute delay in startup. Connect to the exchange through vpn or local network at work gives an instant startup.
iTunes version: always the latest, so the fix mentioned in 2nd post does not apply to this situation

If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
For instance:

followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

ITunes very slow to start with large library

Why doesn't iTunes start immediately for me but take about 5 mins to start for my husband, my account has about 50GB of music, my husband has about 150GB.
How can this be speeded up?

Okay, now with 5 minutes I would have said something is wrong. 1.5 minutes sounds a bit high on your faster machine but I'd hazard to guess that there are a lot of variables that may be affecting this. I timed mine at 25 seconds (did you actually time his, really, honestly, truly?). I have more RAM than you and dual processors, though a slower machine. DP help in multitasking and may give me an edge. If you have other programs open and doing things when opening his itunes maybe there is competition and it slows things down. Or maybe somebody will come on and say I'm talking rubbish.

My iPad 1's slow response really annoyed me, specifically on Safari. This weekend I spent a lot of time reading various discussions dating back a couple of years. I was so frustrated I "restored" my iPad to an out-of-the-box condition and re-registered the iPad (but still with the last 5.1.1 iOS).
This helped until I restored the iPad getting much of my data transferred back (except my movies, books, and music, which took up a lot of memory and I didn't use much from the iPad, for now). My iPad was slow again.
I turned off most or all Notifications and ICloud functions (from System). I'll turn them back on later to see how they affect speed. I did keep Find My iPhone (iPad) on.
Here's what seemed cure my problem. BOOKMARKS BAR. This entire section I had synced with my iPad. It was packed with many duplicates of bookmarks from several years. I tried manually deleting the bookmarks within the iPad but it was taking hours to do so one-by-one. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands.
I went back to my Mac Mini base station and deleted all of them, including many prepacked folders and individual bookmarks/web addresses. I then synced my iPad again with the box checked in iTunes to replace the bookmarks in the iPad with the (now empty/zero) Bookmarks Bar in my Mac Mini.
My Safari responsiveness returned. I just did this less than an hour ago, but so far, I'm happy.
Yes, I'll need to manually add back my bookmarks as I go, but I can remember mostly what I'll use on a daily basis or I can just research them again as if it was the first time going to a website.

Whenever I type an "s", "f" jumps behind it and iTunes starts up. This bizarre event is in MAIL and Pages. How do I fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Ok. So my iTunes started acting up a few months ago. ALL of the songs I purchased from the iTunes store stop in the middle of the song and then go back to the begining (I keep it on repeat one song by the way). Please help!!! (Windows 7)

ITunes starts fast forwarding tracks after 1hours continuous play?

Hi I have recently updated windows XP on my computer to service pack three. After this update when I am listening to iTunes it suddenly started playing the songs in my library too quickly as if it was stuck on fast forward.
If you stop itunes playing then press play or select a different track it continues to play too fast. The only way to fix the problem is to close itunes and re-open it.
I have now found that this problem starts after iTunes has been playing music for just over an hour, so currently I'm having to close and re-open itunes ever hour to keep listening to music.
Any Idea why this might be happening?
I'm running XP SP3, 3GB ram, 3GHz processor, 200GB HD no where near full. Its iTunes version 8.2.1.6.

Anyone else have this problem? I have now timed the problem to exactly 1hour 9minutes of continuous play, so if you play for 30 mins, pause for 15 then play iTunes starts fastforwarding 39 minutes later.

Apps won't open and computer is slow to start up

My mac book is screwed up. About a week ago I noticed that everything on my computer started working extremely slowly. So, I ran a verify disk in disk utility. I got a message that my start up disk had an error. So, I started up from the install disk and ran repair disk in the utility program. Once that finished I got a message that there were no problems found. So, nothing changed still slow. I decided to start up in safe mode and see if that fixed things. Well, after starting safe mode and then restarting regularly it was still very slow to start up and on top of that no applications, except for Mail and Safari, will open. Also, I have tried to back up the few files I have that were not backed up already and I keep getting error messages and can't move files. So, what do I do now? I live quite a long way from the nearest mac genius bar and would like to fix this here if possible. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It's sounds like there's some corruption on your hard disk that Repair Disk fixes but then returns.
Be sure you drive is not overly full. Rule of thumb would be over 85%.
Then download DriveGenius you can use the tools there and the surface scan to diagnose. If the surface scan shows bad blocks, you'll need to replace the drive sooner or later and I'd suggest sooner.

Somehow my itunes started a new library and I lost my old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music to my ipod without deleting stored music from ipod. How can I start using this new library and sync the new music without losing existing music.

Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) running slow on start-up

Hi,
My MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) seems to be running very slow on start-up and when i have more than two applications open. This only seems to have become apparent following my upgrade to Yosemite. I read a few blogs and i decided to disable FileVault in the hope that it would speed up, but it has not. I have also verified and repaired permissions of the HD and start-up disk in Recovery mode. Can anyone help?

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically. Any thoughts?

I went to my iTunes Help and clicked Updates/download iTunes 10.7 twice, but got nothing. Now, Im wondering if I should downloacd the entire 10.7, or whether that would overwrite all my files, erasing my songs. Anybody know? Thanks.

Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

TS1567 My Ipod Classic appears in my computer when connected to my Windows 8 pc but when itunes starts it no longer appears and is not shown in Itunes also. Itunes appears to disconnect it from pc.

My Ipod Classic appears in My Computer when I connected it to my new Windows 8 pc. When Itunes starts my Ipod is no longer appears in My Computer and is not shown under Devices in Itunes. It appears that Itunes disconnects my Ipod from the pc. My Ipod still sync's up fine with Itunes on my old Windows XP pc.

My Apple iPad 3 is less than 6 months old - purchased in March of 2012. I believe it already needs a new battery. It will not hold a charge for very long andvs very slow in starting up a carge when I plug it in. Please advise - it is very annoying.n.

Take it to Apple Store. You are covered under your 1 year warranty.
