Slow load times for rentals on Apple TV

Out of a clear blue sky, I find that my hard-wired Apple TV takes hours to prepare a movie for watching. I've adjusted the setting in iTunes on the ATV to make sure it defaults to 720p and not 1080p, but the problem still exists.
As an example, the other day I rented a movie and it took over two hours(!) for it to stream enough for me to be able to watch. If I switch to Netflix, I have no problem streaming anything in HD, and the same for Hulu or YouTube. I can also stream material from my MacBook Pro or iMac over my local network and there is no lag whatsoever.
Anyone know what's going on? I'm a bit surprised that a wired Ethernet connection from my ATV to my router is demonstrating this type of behavior.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Slow load times for itunes u

We have noticed that lately iTunes U for UW-Whitewater (uww.edu) has been extremely slow, and sometimes even timing out.  We have been trying this from various different locations and computers.  It appears to be something on the apple side.  Has anyone else seen this?
Apple Engineers: Any updates as to what might be going on?

    Greetings Guys;
We had the same issue yesterday, but the issue seemed to be affecting only the iTunes desktop application.  When I would preview using the iPad, load times were normal.  The issue seems to have been resolved this morning.

  • Slow load time for Quick Time in Mail

Does anyone know why when you receive a video file (like WMV) in Mail that Quick Time takes so long to load it? It did not use to take so long before Snow Leopard. If you click on play before it is loaded, you get audio only. Are there any work arounds or something other than Quick Time that can be used?

From Adobe Support:  17 secs response time is a normal time interval for the "Print Settings" dialogue.

  • Very Slow Load Times for PDF Document

    Hi,
I have a PDF document that takes forever to load in preview (on the order of a minute or more). It is eight pages, but when I try to go to the last two pages, each of which has a drawing created by using Autoshapes in Microsoft Word, again they take a minute or more to load.
The document looks to have been created by Acrobat 6 for Windows from a MS Word document. Adobe Reader 7.0.7 on another machine loads the document correctly and speedily (well, as speedily as Adobe Reader can...).
Are there known problems with this type of graphics, MS Word drawings, in a PDF document? Is there any way I can make the document load faster?
    Thanks,
    Jeff Corbets

  • Slow loading time for text

The website is published, and was working fine. Now when I go to the website homepage > projects > enclosed retail (or any of those project pages) , the text that is supposed to show under the images isn't loading. If I move the mouse around over where the text should be (underneath the image), it reappears, but otherwise stays hidden. How do I get the text to load with the images?
    www.jp2architects.com

Chrome version 33 broke the loading of web fonts (for most websites that use webfonts, not just Muse sites). The symptom of the bug is that some combination of the webfonts used on a page fail to draw on the first paint of the page. Refreshing the page or interacting with it such that items are re-painted by Chrome causes the undrawn text to appear.
Google is very aware of the bug. The Google bug report is here <https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=336476&q=font&colspec=ID%20Pri%20M%20I teration%20ReleaseBlock%20Cr%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20OS%20Modified>. From the notes in the bug it appears they're considering folding a fix from their development branch back into 33, presumably so they can do an update prior to their normally scheduled 34 release.

  • Yahoo! slow load time

Does anyone know if there is going to be a firmware update to address the excessi'vely slow load times for DRMed WMA files such as those from Yahoo!Music Unlimited? I have "cleaned up" my Micro and it still takes a WMA file about 7 seconds to load if I just go to a random one, whereas it only takes about -2 seconds for a random MP3 to start playing. This is rather annoying, and I'm just wondering if the code that does the license check is being optimized.

    indo87 wrote:
Try to convert the wma to mp3 with a program doesnt take that long.
But it's a DRM'ed file, so it's not legal--unless you use the program I just mentioned in this thread, and it's bleeding-edge enough that the RIAA might sue them anyway.
That delay is perhaps the only problem with 2.20.05; I didn't have quite as much a delay on DRM'ed files with 2..02. (But I also switched from a Napster To Go trial to YMU at the same time, so that might be part of it.) It's not the 30-second delay that the WMP updates in the FAQ post fix, however.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

  • Slow load times on AU sites?

is anyone still experiencing slow load times on AU sites, apparently this is resolved but I just emptied my cache and checked load times on half dozen sites. Still very slow!

I just loaded http://www.prettypollution.com.au/ and it took 17sec.
Got similar time for http://www.designexperts.com.au/ as well. So, although not very fast it's much better than what you’re seeing. Could be something in the node you’re being routed through.

  • Page not found, slow loading times CC Files

    Hi,
Two weeks ago I reported that there were CC files problems like 'page not found' errors and slow loading times and pages not even showing anything. Those problems were temporarily resolved but are back as of today.
Please fix this because for me this is not workable and I guess for many others. I've already moved part of my design files away from CC Files and am now reaching the point were I want to abandon this beta-ware altogether.
I'm living in Europe, maybe this gives additional info. Maybe server problems only in this continent?
    Thanks for looking into this.

So what product would you advice me to file this bug report under? There is no Creative Cloud Files entree or similar.
I'm not sure I'm taken by Adobe support channels policies. if I tweet a complaint some employee tell me I'll be called back by support. Instead of being called back I get asked per email to report on the community forums, when I post on the forum someone tells me to file a bug report. Ehhh...
    Time to move on.

  • Random, excruciatingly slow load time with 7900 Elite small form factor desktops

Hi all, I have approx 300 HP 7900 Elite small form factor machines in my environment that were deployed just over two years ago. from the time of deployment we have experienced on about 50 occasions a random, excruciatingly slow load time that take about one hour for the user to login and open their programs. there has been no rhyme or reason for it, different floors, areas of the building, etc. I searched the forum for similar probs and didn't see one like this, I hope I'm not duplicating efforts from someone else's question... One thing we have noticed is that if we re-boot while it is going through the start-up process, it seems to "make it angry" and will lengthen the overall load time. We use the 32-bit Vista Enterprise OS. This is with a "stock" build, that is to say, our standard corporate build. our security policy does not allow users to install software, by the way. Thanks so much if you can help!

    Hi,
How is the issue going? Usually, this error can be caused by missing third-party NIC driver. To solve the issue, we can download the missing network
driver and update the WDS boot image to include it.

  • Increase in Loading time for LV search in 2011

Initially when I loaded LV2011 my quick drop and the search took nearly 5 seconds but now it takes nearly 20 seconds to load so is there any reason for this kind of performance. Also I don't have anyother big software loaded or running in my PC. I have added few toolkits from VI package manager may be that is the reason?.

In my message in the other thread, I commented that I thought 20 seconds wasn't all that long.  But I thought you were commenting on the loading time for LabVIEW itself.  That does seem like a long time for any of the internal LabVIEW dialogs to come up.
(Actually, I find several internal dialogs seem to take longer to load the first time then they should including the properties dialog.  But not 20 seconds long.)
Hopefully, with this message thread in the LabVIEW forum, others can comment and offer suggestions on how to determine what the issue your having is.
Yes now I have plenty of toolkits ( Thanks for spotting me in the other thread )

  • Long loading times for Safari on iPad Air with iOS8

I've had long loading times in Safari sInce upgrading to iOS8 on my iPad Air 128 GB. Are any of you having the same experience?

Sometimes I question myself, how come that iOS being held in beta for over quarter or even over a half a year, and most certainly long enough in alpha, still comes out so much raw and buggy every release? Sometimes it feels like it's only getting worse concerning the debugging.
I wanted to address the HR manager of the Apple Inc. to query him/her about HIS/HER dedication to the overall work being done. Why, the ****, does Safari get slow, why, the ****, is it unpredictable to define whether a sound stream in Safari's tab will end upon tab closure or not. Morever, why do iPhone iMessages fail to mark a message or a chain as a read one even thought you just really did it. Beyond that miriad of similar questions I have just another three, since when is it official Apple support position to advise you to wipe out your device and install everything back from iTunes, not the cloud? But what is more important, how come that support representative tells you first to back up your buggy iPad, wipe it out and restore from that backup both with iTunes? Finally, we all know how Apple does cherish it's developers, can somebody tell me how, for heavens sake, this website ever possible to exist then — Texts From Xcode?
I don't want neither need to mention that switching between tabs in iOS7 (I have had no chance to test it in iOS8) in Safari never gave you any sure answer whether your tab will be reloaded when you get back or not: whether have you copy any post before leaving, to paste back on return or not.
After all I do still love Apple, I do love people's ideas. I do love the overall outcome, but I want to tell Mr. Cook one phrase I heard when I used to be a head of a department in a medium size company and had to deal with continuous fails of the personnel and most often ended up doing much things myself, it was not the exact situation as with Apple although I hope you can trace a path: If a manager has to do anything besides managing he or she failed to manage one major issue — the personnel one.

  • Slow loading time on my Website

I just installed iWeb last night, and went about building a practice site. I'm finding that loading times are EXTREMELY slow.
    http://www.brianutter.net
I've tried to reduce the size on some of my images by exporting from iPhoto and limiting pixel width, as you can see the site is still super slow. I'm wondering if other folks have experience this and have any helpful tips.
    Thanks!

If you use command-shift-4, everything in that selected area gets lifted. In the case of the red image, you grab the image, it's reflection AND the white background that's showing through the reflection. If you convert this image to a .jpg and place it over a white background, there's effectively very little difference but you realize a great change in file size.
Change the color of the page's background, and you see the difference immediately. The reflection loses it effect. Instead of being reflected over black as it would be if it were a .png, it still carries the white reflection since that's the color you lifted from the screen capture. You'd have to take the original file, reflect it, and command-shift-4 to copy a new image with the correct colored background. It's not just a white box, it's whatever color box your current background is. This is an old web trick used for when you needed the high quality color of .jpg and the transparency of a .gif. You just created all your graphics as .jpg's such that they give the illusion of having degrees of transparency (like with iWeb's reflections and shadows). Here's an image that is an example of this.
    http://images.apple.com/ilife/iweb/images/overview20060111.jpg
    the page it's from
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/iweb/
Drop that image on any background other than white to see what I mean by "white boxes around images"
On your pages, you've composited the entire background as one big .jpg, so it doesn't apply. This one is particularly nice.
    http://web.mac.com/jwtseng/iWeb/kate/Images/puttputt.jpg
Make the .jpg match the page background, and it doesn't require a series of .png's!

  • Slow Boot Time for iMac

My imac now takes more than 1 minute to boot. Most of the time is spent on the gray screen. It used to be under 20 seconds.
I have tried disabling all login items as well as moving launch daemons in /Users/name/Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchDaemons. This did not help.
I have reset the PRAM and SMC, but no change either.
Finally, I removed all usb cables as well as the ethernet cable to see if this was creating the slow boot time, but again, no significant change in boot time.
I have used onyx to clean all caches, and verified the smart status as well as the structure of the volume. I also repaired permissions and executed maintenance scripts. No change.
I have done a verbose boot, and attached to this message is the generated log file. If anyone could take a look at this and let me know if there is anything wrong, I'd much appreciate it. If there's anything else I can try, do let me know as well.
    Thank you.

Sorry for my late reply, I didn't have access to the computer.
I tried a newly created auto-login user account, but it didn't make a difference. The time between restarting and a cold start is also about the same.
Anyway, you were right these messages are also in the console log with timestamps. Found that with a different command.
    Here is that new log:
