Loading videos freezes my mac screen!
Video loading causes my mac screen to freeze forcing me to restart the mac! any ideas would be aprecited
It's time to get back to basics since we know very little about your system and how you are trying to view the videos.
What model iMac do you have?
What version of the OS is installed?
What application(s) are you using to view the videos?
Have you tried creating a new user account to see if the issue goes away?
Is there another application you can try to vide the same video? (eg use Firefox instead of Safari)
Have you run the built in Apple Hardware Test diagnostic to see if it generates any errors?
Have you tried booting in safe mode? See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564 -
Slow loading videos, how to fix?
I have a captivate course that has a 25 minute video as the bulk of the course (followed by a quiz)
When uploaded as a MP4 (about 300 mb), it takes about 10 minutes for the video to start playing.. which is unacepptable!
I tried cutting up the video at logical points till I had 8 videos (15 - 30 mbs average) on 8 consecutive slides; preloader was set to 10%.. i figured the first video would take about a minute to load but the rest should pre-load... but NO, the project stops at each video and loads for 2-3 minutes... still not acceptable!
What can I do?
Surely, someone out there has made a video heavy e-course, what's the fix?
P.S. I also tried using the youtube interaction; and while it does load almost instantly since it's youtube, the widget is incredibly limiting (doesn't pause with the project, won't scale properly, etc...We have created several courses now which rely heavily on videos. Each course has a video which is about an hour long followed by a quiz.
To make this happen, we took several steps.
First , we found a video hosting site which lets us do video streaming using ABR (Adaptive Bit Rate). This lets the video start playing within a few seconds of the webpage being presented. You can put a video file on a standard web server, but it will only do "Progressive" downloading where almost the entire video must be downloaded before it will start playing. You will have to pay some money for this type of Video Hosting site (the "big dogs" of video hosting are Brightcove.com and Ooyala.com). Once you upload your video to them, they re-encode it to the correct formats that it needs to play to the various devices. They also give you the HTML to put on your web page so the video plays back correctly and it knows how much data to "feed" the device which is playing the video.
Next we broke up our video into Chapter or parts which last between 5 and ten minutes. We didn't want the student to get to minute 58 of a 60 minute video, cancel out and then have to watch the entire 60 minutes again the next time they started the course.
We then took the HTML that we got from our video provider and loaded it onto some web pages which we serve up on our servers. We created a different web page for each video chapter.
Then using Captivate 7, we used their web object widget and pointed each slide to a different web page (one for each chapter). We ended up with between 8 and 10 video slides per course, followed by a random 25 question quiz.
We just published our 2nd course using this technique and the end-users really seem to like it. -
Videos on my iPad2 are almost impossible to watch because of the excessive buffering and slow download speeds. I don't have problems on any other device on my home wifi network. The issue is the same with embedded videos or the You Tube app that came on the iPad.
Any thoughts on what to do?The tip about clearing the YouTube cookies was right on the money! This works in FF6 as well - good call - thanks!

Slow Media Loading, Video iChat Fails, iTunes Choppy
Internet sites are reluctant to load and I usually have to click the refresh button 3-4 times before a given webpage will load (sometimes not even entirely: question marks in place of pictures).
Videos freeze up or just continually try to load but nothing ever happens.
iTunes is visually choppy when I open it and slow to load and sometimes my fan runs without anything really happening.
I've cleared my cache and that has had no effect. I've also checked my Activity Monitor and there are some minor red spikes with occasional medium sized ones. I don't see anything out of the ordinary running.
My music folder is 23 GB.
My disc space says:
51.72 GB Utilized
22.49 GB Space Free
Basically everything is tremendously slow and I'm wondering what it could be, and more importantly: What should I do?
ThanksI don't have a solution for you, but maybe some suggestions for the causes.
If you're having problems loading a webpage, odds are it's the network and not your computer. Can other computers (friends, another you own, ipod) load web pages on that network without a hitch? If other computers can it's more likely a problem with how you setup the network than the computer being faulty.
iTunes: What else are you running while the visualizer is being choppy? I'd check activity monitor regularly when it gets slow and see what's using the most under the CPU column.
Is the video you're refering to that freezes up or is choppy streaming video from the web or video on your hard drive, or a DVD. If it's streaming video, see the first point i made. If its on your HD it could you have the wrong codecs installed or something of that nature. My QT is choppy with everything I play. WIthout really wanting to see what codecs I'm missing I've just downloaded VLC and run everything on that. No choppy anymore.
I don't know much else about how things work. And sorry if I'm giving you dumb answers but it's hard to tell how much knowledge people have, so maybe my little is more than theirs. Hope that helped. -

New Time Capsule, Fast internet but slow on loading video?
Just install TC in ethernet connection and used the Wifi for my laptop, The problem is the slower loading of video from youtube or even @ the apple site's to my mac and even to my portables!?
I didn't have this kind of problem even before installing the TC and tried reseting my safari thinking maybe it would make it load faster. Please help!OK I tried to separate the 5ghz and 2.4ghz names by going into wireless/wireless options and selecting the first checkbox.....didnt work. I tried using my Belkin router as a wireless access point. My iMac will connect to the Belkin and the TC but iPhone still wont connect to neither the Belkin nor the TC. I tried turning off NAT .....didnt work. I have pretty much tried every setting in Airport Utility and my iphone will not get internet. Would reverting to an old firmware version be worth a try? Is this safe to try?

Why are videos on Youtube slow loading since ff4 update?
ever since updating ff 4 videos on Youtube are slow loading. all plugins, codecs and computer are up to date. my other computers have older versions of ff and have no issues. what is going on?
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

Youtube will not load videos beyond 2 seconds. How can this be fixed?
Try contacting YouTube's tech support and/or post in their forums.
Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
Is your RAM maxed out? Care to share which OS you are using? -
Slow loading of videos. No its not verizon or youtube
I have noticed that for the past month I am unable to load videos at high resolutions such as 1080p. Even 720p is a struggle. They run for maybe 10 seconds and stop. Even pausing and waiting up to 10 minutes will only grant me maybe 30 seconds before another interuption. It is not just youtube it is every website I go to. I thought it was verizon but 2 other members of my family own Macs and they load their videos with no hickups. I also have tried it in multiple locations. Even at 3:00am it is a problem. At my home I have Verizon 50/25. At school I have 15/5. My specs are Mac Book pro 13 inch Mid 2012. 2.9ghz intel core i7 with 8 GB 1600 MHZ DDR3 intel graphics 4000 512MB, OX lion 10.7.5
I dont visit dangerous sites and doubt it is a virus. I am relativly new to Macs since I also have a desktop PC I use for demanding video games.
Please give me a constructive non fan boy response along the line "Nothing could possibly be wrong with the Mac its your ISP or youtube" Productive and qualified responses only please
Thanks

10.7.5 suddenly slows and then freezes
My computer has just started to suddenly slow way down and then it freezes completely. When I reboot it seems fine, for perhaps 10 minutes or half an hour, but then it starts to lock up again. Any idea what the problem is? Here is my EtreCheck report:
Problem description:
Mac works perfectly normally for an hour or so and then suddenly slows and then freezes.

Apr 6, 2015, 09:14:29 AM /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Kernel_2015-04-06-091429_[redacted].panic [Click for details]Well, I made it to the Apple store and they, contrary to the guys at B&H, confirmed my original suspicion and yours: that the drive was failing. I bought a replacement drive and am restoring my time machine back up now.
I am a bit annoyed that the B&H guys got this one wrong but I have to give them credit for underselling me rather than overselling me; I do appreciate that.
Also worth mentioning is that the 3TB Seagate drive was less than 2 years old and is supposedly still under warrantee. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of support I get from them.
So big thanks to you, Bob, for your very good suggestions. The Apple community has come through strong for me and I appreciate it. -
I have a brand new Macbook model A1502. I am taking online college classes that incorporate youtube tutorial videos. I can watch the videos if I don't maximize the screen to full screen. When in full screen, the video freezes immediately and the audio continues uninterrupted. I can press escape and go back to the previous screen and the video continues to play with no problems. Can anyone help me please? This machine is literally just out of the box with maybe an hour of use. Thanks in advance
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
Video freezes for a few seconds multiple times but audio continues ok
Flash freezes for a second or three; audio continues ok.
Happens usually a few seconds in, every 8 seconds or so for maybe 3 times and
intermittent after that (sometimes runs fine the rest of the way). Have Vista64
IE9 - Chrome and FF doesn't freeze only IE. Disabled hardware acceleration (to
software). Nvidia 440 drivers up to date. Flash up to date: Object
13.0.0.214 ActiveX control: 12.0.9.149
(shouldn't that be same as object?). Not a buffer problem as it loads up
usually at a good clip ahead of playing video. Local storage buffer set at 10MB
(tried higher and lower settings no joy). Would having 4 HD audio drivers
installed have anything to do with this problem? (noticed in device manager). Previous
versions back a few months were doing this too so decided to go on this forum. Thanks.
Hope I didn't miss anything.OK as of today (June 27, 2014) I've had 93 views with no response. I did find a very long thread pertaining to this subject (Flash player stutters for 1 second then continues normally) so I'll tack on to end of that thread with the hopes that something can be done with this annoying stuttering. I want to post my DX Diag text but first update above: It's IE version 9. When video freezes it appears to "catch up" with audio running with no hitch (the whole thing takes a second or two and might happen a few times in a minute video - it ALWAYS happens with a second or two in the beginning though). I even reinstalled IE9 going all the way back to IE7 to make sure I got "fresh" files installed as possible - still same problem after that. With that said below is my DX Diag text. If someone (especially an Adobe person) has any suggestions of where else I can post to get someone talking to me I would appreciate it.

Nokia c503 touchpad is slow and it freezes..
Hi since one month the touchpad of my nokia C503 is slow and it freezes.. it works for a while only if i hit a little bit the back of the mobile..! any of you have this kind of problem? is there a simple way to solve it? because i lost my warranty.. and if i keep it off the whole night and i turn it on, the mobile works fine but after some hours it becomes slow again..! if i may decide to send it to a nokia center it could even happen that an operator tries the mobile and sees that there are no problems..but it's nout true! you have to wait different hours to view the real problem..! T_T
i already tried soft reset, hard reset and calibration..!Hi,
My position is almost same with some more or less problems.
I have my warranty upto 1st April,2012.
I had problems like
-Sudden switch off with red and green lines on screen
-Touch totally stops responding
-Sometimes when hanged not even able to switch it off using the button, forcing to open the battery and turn it on back
-recorded video play back stucks with boxes while playing
I complained regarding this several times to my nearest Nokia care centre. They made me run many times finally they sent to head office and said it is replaced.
BUT THE STORY STARTS NOW. EVEN NOW WHEN I GOT THE PIECE WITHIN 2-3DAYS, I AM FACING TOUCH RELATED PROBLEMS AND PHONE HANGS.
AS YOU SAID I EVEN CANT SHOW THEM ,BECAUSE IT JUST HAPPENS WHICH CANT BE OBSERVED AT A TIME BUT CAN BEEN EXPERIENCED ONLY WHILE CONTINUOUS USAGE.
AS ONE OF MY FRIEND HAS THE SAME PIECE WITH SAME PROBLEMS.
SO MY SINCERE REQUEST TO THE AUTHORITIES OF NOKIA,IF THEY CAN SEE THIS POST , PLEASE PLEASE RECTIFY THE PROBLEM,
AS IT MAY BE A BAD NAME TO THE COMPANY BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND I DONT WANT IT TO BE.
HOPING YOU WILL DO THE NEED FUL.
