Slow LTE in Valrico, FL

Since getting a 4G LTE phone nearly two years ago, my LTE speeds around my home in the Bloomingdale area of Valrico, FL have been slow. I frequently have zero bars on my phone, and it usually drops to a weak 3G signal. I have spoken with Verizon Wireless support a number of times, but nothing has improved. If anything, it's gotten worse. My average speeds on LTE in the area is 2Mbps download and 1Mbps upload, which is TERRIBLE for 4G.
When I'm in North Tampa with four bars of 4G, my downloads speeds are 9Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, which is better than what I get at home, but is still far slower than what folks on AT&T and T-Mobile are getting here. Back in November I used to get 18Mbps down and 12Mbps up on LTE, so VZW network has gotten congested.
By the way, the same is true for my wife; it's not just my phone. We also lose 4G signal inside buildings, grocery stores, etc.. This LTE network is notnearly as good as the 3G network was. I'm considering switching carriers.

Correction: my 4G LTE speeds at home are averaging 1.54 Mbps download and .47 Mbps upload. Pitiful!

  • Getting slow LTE speeds on 5s

I will notice I'm getting really slow LTE speeds when streaming music on my iphone 5s because rdio, pandora, itunes radio and sirius xm will pause for long periods of time. The short remedy to this is me having to turn on/off airplane mode and it will work as normal for about 10-15 minutes before going really slow again.
Does anyone think this is the LTE on my phone having the issue? I have Verizon with unlimited data.

    Hello there dmaynard83,
It sounds like your LTE speed is lower than expected, but seems ok for a bit if you toggle Airplane mode on then off. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve issues with the cellular data network:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
    Restart your iPhone.
Make sure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update: Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update: Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still doesn't, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Slow LTE speeds in the LA and greater LA area?

Hi guys.  So I live in South Pasadena, CA, and for the past week or so I've noticed that the LTE speed on my phone has slowed than tremendously.  Whereas before I would have no problem downloading apps, watching Youtube videos, streaming music on Pandora and Rhapsody, now I can barely get these services.  At times, videos load, and at other times, they don't load at all.  Or, I'm in the middle of watching a video and/or listening to a song, and it stops.  I've tried turning the phone off and on, taking out the SIM card and putting it back, wiping the phone completely, making sure that it is set to "LTE mode," and this has not done the trick.  Oh, and I have an iPhone 5s, 32GB.  I'm updated to IOS 7.1.2.  I have even tried driving around to other areas, like Orange County, and my phone still has this problem.  When I connect my phone to WiFi, no problem.  But when I switch back to Verizon's network, I get the problem mentioned.  I was wondering if anyone on here who lives in LA, or the greater LA area, has noticed this.  I took my phone to the Apple store today, and the guy brought out another iPhone 5s, and the network was slow on this phone as well.  When he showed me his iPhone 5s (he had ATT as his carrier, however), no problem.  So I don't know if anyone has reported this, or if it is just my phone.  I called Verizon customer service two nights ago, and the rep told me that there were no outages, and that no one else has complained of this.  So I would like to know if there is anyone out there who is also experiencing this problem with their LTE speeds.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

This is happening to me too.  About two weeks ago LTE just dropped off.  Here's the results of my speed tests this week:
    Mon 8/18 - 0.46 Down, 5.89 Up (culver city)
    Mon 8/18 - 0.15 Down, 1.24 Up (LAX)
    Tue 8/19 - 0.18 Down, 6.75 Up (culver city)
    Tue 8/19 - 0.32 Down, 7.25 Up (LAX)
    Wed 8/20 - 1.2 Down, 8.76 Up (culver city)
    Wed 8/20 - 0.54 Down, 4.87 Up (LAX)
    Thu 8/21 - 0.37 Down, 7.27 Up (culver city)
I'm so glad I found this thread because customer service immediately thinks its my phone.  They told me to clear my browser history, what the hell??  Where can I go to get a serious answer?
I have an iPhone5 running iOS 6.1.4.  My wife is on an iPhone5s running iOS 7.1.2 and she is experiencing the same issues.

  • Very slow LTE for a month in 22033 zip code (or is it my house??)

I'm a long time VzW customer and always had great connectivity and speed.
last month or so though LTE speed has been TERRIBLE.  I can't get above 0.20Mbps download and even less up!
at first I thought it was my device, a Galaxy Note 2, but when I was recently in NJ it registered 39.29 down and 13.93 up.
I Returned home and tried out my LTE ipad and my wife's LTE Samsung Galaxy S5 Had the same very slow speeds.
what gives VZW? At this rate I may have to try AT&T...

Well, my theory is simple:  My phone is set to lock to a weak XLTE over a stronger LTE much like my last phone connected to 4G over a stronger 3G signal.  They say you only get pushed over to XLTE in congested areas.  My area is 2 blocks off of the major main streets and business areas.  So, I think I'm in the fringe XLTE area and given my location and city, I have one of the few XLTE ready phones at the moment (around here) and that's why I get pushed over to the weaker, but less congested band.  So, right now, having an incompatible-with-XLTE phone would be faster, ironically.

  • Extremely slow LTE service in San Francisco

I have an iPhone 5 with Verizon postpaid contract plan [unfortunately].
The data speeds have been miserable last several months. Most of the time, my download is less than 1mbps and upload will be like 30kbps.
Right now, I am near the city hall area and my speeds are 0.03mbps down and 0.03mbps up. and yesterday was 0.04mpbs down and 0.10mbps up.
I went to the verizon store and it works fast inside since they have repeaters in the store. They said the phone appears to work fine and said it depends on the area..blah..blah..basically they just stopped short of admitting their network sucks in SF.
I'm extremely disappointed with the service considering how much they are charging me for it.
I think Verizon should give a discount or let us terminate the contract without the Early Termination Fee. I would be happy to go back to AT&T. They have much faster speeds here and lower fees.
Anyone else having such slow speeds in SF? Feel free to share it here..

I downloaded 4G LTE Switch (which was created because another one started having malware or requested a bunch of features, so this one, for now is pretty free of unnecessary items) from the Play store.  Being able to force my phone to 3g is fantastic since I can actually use it again.  The LTE works fine by PacBell Park, but while I have 4-5 bars of signal strength in places like the Castro (from Castro and Market down to Castro and 19th, Hartford over to whatever the street past Collingwood is) loads slowly, and by slow I mean 5 minutes between clicks on stuff and at worst times out entirely.
The other really bad area I've noticed is Church and Dorland Ave up to 20th and Church and over to Valencia.
I re-tested after downloading the app that allows me to force my Droid Maxx (Capable of XLTE so it's not that) and the things I was trying to do on LTE load near instantly on 3g since the data needs of the apps I'm using are miniscule.  I've reported this to Verizon but of course never hear anything back from them.  I'm just chiming in hoping that this and other forum posts get seen and have more and more people echo the ever increasing horror story of LTE on Verizon in San Francisco.  I'm available for an upgrade, as much as I hate AT&T I might have to move over there myself.
I should mention I handle about 40 Verizon lines for my company and most of my users are reporting dead zones like this all over SF as well as all the people I play Ingress with (which is probably the best way to find data outages more than any other application on the phone right now due to being a GPS based video game where you have to go all over the place.  Never thought I'd be using it as a tool for finding out where Verizon's data coverage is crap.)
If anyone wants me to post Speedtest pictures, I can make that happen, but I think if you're here in this thread you're in the same boat already.

  • Very Slow LTE download Speeds..

Hello all..I live in Bridgeport Connecticut, and i own a Galaxy nexus 4G LTE...I'm curious as to why i get such slow download speeds with my Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus Download speeds becomes extremely apparent compared to My sisters Iphone 5 ..I did 15 speed tests on both device The Galaxy Nexus and the Iphone 5.The iPhone got between 12-16 MBPS..My nexus got as low as 1.6 MBPS, and seemed to average around 2.4 MBPS..the highest was 3.9 MBPS. I used the speedtest.net android app and the servers etc were all the same..The nexus runs the stock jellybean firmware.
I love the nexus. However, i feel cheated that the iphone 5 gets about 500-600% higher download speeds..I think something software wise if holding the nexus back from acheive true LTE speeds available in this area.

Looking at forums today to see if this was reported and if there is a remedy. I share tino4342's problem and I live clear across the country in Snohomish, Washington. At a given spot in my home, my Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 (locked) gets 2 mbps download speed while a Verizon iPhone 5 sitting next to my GN gets around 12 mbps, both tested using speedtest.net. In various other spots around town, the iPhone 5 download speed is at least 5 times faster than the Galaxy Nexus (both on Verizon).
This is absolutely not cool.  I chatted with Verizon chat service and they said the LTE antenna on iPhone 5 was better. That has to be the biggest bogus point I've heard since the protocols they use should be the same and yield the same output. It has to be the placement of LTE Antenna in the Galaxy Nexus which is blocking the signal.  I think Verizon should come up with some sort of remedy/partial refund for selling LTE phone that isn't! or if the hardware is faulty, they need to own up to it and replace it. Looking forward to a Verizon response on this issue.

  • Slow LTE speeds after update to ios 8.1

I have a iphone 5s on T-Mobile with unlimites LTE and I updated from 8.0.2 to 8.1 and now i have HORRIBLE! Lte speeds. And its every where i go i tried reseting the network settings i even reset the phone like new and nothing. I tried to downgrade back to ios 8.0.2 but apple closed the signing window so now im stuck on this ****** ios version. Who knows hiw long till another update if anyone knows how to downgrade or a way around this email me [email protected]

You need to be patient. There is no need to post again within minutes of the first post. Try force closing the App Store app and then reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Slow LTE Speeds in Columbus/Central Ohio

I have been experiencing consistent slow speeds in the Central Ohio area lately.  It is very frustrating as often the speeds are slower than AT&T & T-Mobile's 3g networks.  Yes, I have reset my phone's SIM card many times.  Yes, this is the typical speed I experience.  Specifically, I am currently in 43219 and have also experienced slow speeds in 43081, 43054, 43021 and other zip codes as well.

  • Extremely slow LTE data in Castro, San Francisco

I have an iPhone 6 and LTE works fine most everywhere except on or around Castro Street in San Francisco. Most of the time, I can't even run a speed test since the free OOKLA app reports "Network Connectivity Issues." Other times, it's extremely high latency and low bandwidth. It's like this even though it shows 4 or 5 "dots" of LTE service. I also have a Retina Display iPad Mini with LTE service and see the same results, so I know it's not my iPhone.
When I switch off LTE and drop down to 3G on either device, I get decent data speeds (for 3G). I've also tried switching my iPhone LTE from "Voice & Data" to just "Data" with no change. I actually live a few blocks east of Castro where LTE service seems fine.
It's been like this for months. Is there some Verizon tower that serves that part of San Francisco that's either faulty or needs an upgrade?

Via a Facebook post to friends who also live in San Francisco, this problem is not unique to me. Others who live around or visit the Castro have this same problem. Some have left Verizon Wireless over it.

  • What's Up with Slow 4G LTE Service in Boston Area?

The 4G LTE service in the Andover/Methuen/Salem, NH area used to be around 18-24 Mbps, now it's 3-14 Mbps and it's sporadic.
What's going on with the inconsistent 4 G LTE service? Anyone else in the area having issues?

    Vanessa,
I reported the issues with slow LTE speeds and all details to Verizon tech support over 4 days ago. I'm using ookla Speedtest which is the same app I used several months ago when LTE speeds were running in the 18-24 Mbps range.
Not sure why you need zip codes since I provided the cities and towns in my last post, but you can use Andover, MA as a midpoint which is 01810. Time of day doesn't make a lot of difference nor does a particular location. At home, 4 of 5 bars for signal strength is typical so signal strength shouldn't be a factor. Last week I spent almost an hour on the phone with tech support troubleshooting my phone and comparing performance with another iPhone 5 and could not find any issues with the phones and their settings. I have 4 iPhone 5's which provide the same performance, which rules out a single bad phone.
I've been in contact with two Verizon tech support reps; one said I should see between 0.75 to 3 Mbps on average and the other had no idea of what a reasonable average LTE speed should be for the area. Surely Verizon has benchmarks they use to track network performance, but either the actual information is not being provided to tech support or it's just not being disclosed to customers.
Before writing this reply, my LTE speeds dropped to a low of 0.5 Mbps and didn't exceed 3 Mbps until yesterday, when I saw ~8 Mbps once or twice, then back down to 0.5 to 1 Mbps.
The results of four random tests this morning are as follows:  (all are download speeds)
    10 AM:      12.76 Mbps and 10.66 Mbps
    11:05 AM:  0.73 Mbps and 0.49 Mbps
While this has been going on I decided to visit your competitors store and was amazed at the LTE performance I witnessed on their network. With a Samsung Galaxy, the download speed was close to 60 Mbps using the same ookla Speedtest app - and yes I am sure that was not in-store Wifi - the phone clearly showed LTE was running. That test was repeated 3 times with approx the same result. Using my iPhone 5 in the same in-store location the results were quite different - an average of 3 Mbps in the store and 5 Mbps on the second level of the mall.
Back 4 days ago, tech support advised my concerns would be addressed by the Verizon network team, followed by a response from tech support within 72 hours, usually less, but I have yet to receive a response.
WHEN is Verizon going to step up and respond?

  • LTE oversaturated? 3G data rates on LTE in Charlotte?

For the last couple of days I have noticed extremely slow LTE rates that are often even slower than 3G in some cases - particularly the uptown area, but also in the North Charlotte area where I live. I have confirmed the same issue with multiple people who also have Thunderbolts that they are experiencing drastically reduced data rates; however, I don't think this is phone specific. I remember just last week I could pull down at least 5-10mbps and send back even more. The rates I've been seeing recently are <=.1mbps down and about the same up. That's absurd. I can't even stream music at low quality at that speed.
What's going on Verizon? It's formal announcement time to keep your customers informed.

Well, I may have figured it out partially. Something has happened to Verizon's coverage in various parts of uptown Charlotte - i.e. they're practically nonexistent. I can walk up and down College St and I find that some areas have next to no bandwidth capability whatsoever and others are full strength. This has absolutely nothing to do with the buildings as I have been all over uptown for the last year I have owned this phone and I never had a problem getting full LTE anywhere uptown. I would guess that the towers in the area have been re-prioritized or perhaps Verizon is no longer leasing near as much bandwidth in certain areas? Whatever the reason I have been reduced to practically zero coverage and now have ~1X data speeds unless I walk a block or two away. Awesome.

  • Extremely slow speeds on EAP-TTLS PAP secured network

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip and when I connect to my schools network I get speeds that are as low as 100 K/s or slower.
When I go to speedtest.net I get speeds of 10 M/s down. I have tried using both the B43 and wl drivers and I get about the same speed on speed test and still very slow speeds when updating through pacman or downloading files.
I am running the most recent versions of the kernel and all drivers.
Here is the output from lspci:
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
If you guys have any ideas of what might help I'm willing to try it, thanks in advance.

Visited the Apple store today and they replaced the phone. They could not explain what was going on except for being a software issue.
They said if after restoring I have the same issue, you would have to restore the phone to new and re-install all apps and information manually from scratch.
I restored the phone from my backup, and all went well. No more slow LTE speeds, plus a new device.
The only thing I can think of that may have happened is updating carrier settings while updating the iOS at the same time. I thought it was normal because iTunes popped up the carrier update notification a few seconds later after starting the iOS 8 update.
The carrier update did have an option to cancel. I will definitely wait for the iOS update to complete before I update carrier settings next time.
I'm just wondering if my phone was out of warranty, and this happened, would Apple still replace the device?

  • Why is your service getting so bad?

I switched from Sprint with unlimited everything to come to att because the service was better. The last six months though the service has gotten worse than it was with sprint but I'm paying a lot more. I guess you just can't win, these big companies do what they want.

I think we will see at&t 3rd in most major cities as companies such as Root Metrics, TomsGuide, etc publish information for mid-to-late 2015. Let's keep this thread going. Let's list the problem area and what network issue (drop calls, slow LTE, etc) is the problem. Then list what at&t's response has been. Let's try to keep it short but in a similar format perhaps? Problem: Slow to un-usable LTE. .25mbps downloads on LTE. 4G HSPA+ is "ok."Location: Philadelphia Center CityCustomer Service Response: At&t support has said cell towers are "3G only" "GSM only" and "all towers are fine." Also said "even though no tower near you has LTE, please make  sure LTE is on and use only LTE, never 4G. Turn the phone off and on." None of those "answers" make any sense and completely ignors the fact 4G HSPA+ is actually OK. I've done engineering work and can realize these answers are ridiculous and nothing a network engineer would ever say.

  • User data permanently saved on iPhone. Even after FULL 2 HOUR WIPE

Just got my 3G S and I restored my old iPhone 3G prior to selling it. After that I found that all my user data was saved on the phone. When I downloaded Pandora and opened it, my account info was saved and I auto-logged in.
I researched and found the FULL ERASE option inside the iPhone settings. So I performed the full erase, which takes about 2 hours. Then it restored again.
After that, I went into settings --> App store. My old account email was still there!! I changed it to a new email address and logged in. Then I downloaded Pandora again. SAME PROBLEM! AUTO-LOG IN!
So app store and pandora both had my old user info saved.
To say that I am frustrated, upset, and ready to die, is a gross understatement. My iTunes randomly lost it's entire music library as well. (All 13,000 + songs were missing and could not be found, yet the files are perfectly fine.)
This is never ending. How do I just wipe my phone?? Please help ;-(

  • Can't get a fix for bad network service

I've contacted Verizon Wireless customer service multiple times as well as going into my local store trying to resolve the very poor service I get when I'm at home. I am in a rural area but the problem is new. Having been with Verizon for around 6 years, I only noticed the problem over the last year or so. Thinking it was the last phone I had just going bad, I upgraded at Christmas.  No better. Possibly worse.  And now the additional problem of often not being able to send and/or receive text messages (both SMS and MMS).  I've been advised to have my SIM card replaced but I don't believe this is the issue since my daughter's phone and my husband's phone experience the same issues, and the problems are only when we are at home.  Attached is a MP3 of the voice quality I have to deal with.....

How good is your connectivity to Verizon from your Internet provider? Verizon, given their size, runs a Tier 1 backbone that connects Verizon Wireless, Verizon DSL, Verizon FiOS, Verizon Terremark, Verizon Enterprise, and other large bandwidth providers together to the rest of the Internet. Verizon is one of many that function similar.
There have been many reports of packet loss and jitter at peering points in/out of Verizon's network, which is what your phone's call sounds like it is suffering from. This causes issues with network performance for all that must hit the Verizon network. Perhaps you've seen all of the reports of slow FiOS and slow LTE in some areas of the US as of recent. These problems have been going on for months.
If you can give your repeater a try on another ISP, and if the problems go away, that should substantiate the claim. You can also try running the Verizon speed test (http://speedtest.verizon.com), and comparing it against something else such as www.speedtest.net. If the Verizon speed test shows widely varying speeds or is very slow, then you've found the problem.
