Slow mail after apple update -

I ran the latest apple update and now pop mail is veeery slow. It does come through eventually.
Also server manager now requires me to type in the IP address of the server even if I am on it. the old address was server.leep.lan - which is still in my domains list.
Nothing else was changed.
Is this an addressing issue ?

Savvy or not, it's important to keep track of what you do on your computer in the event that something doesn't behave properly and you need to reverse it. This software update you ran, was it the Apple Software Update? Do you at least know version of OS X you're running? Based on what version of OS X you're running there are differents way to see what was recently installed/updated but as a baseline it's important to know if you're running OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 or 10.8 on the machine.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I just come back from my holidays and run the software update.
After a reboot i launch MAIL, he says me "i will migrate your mails it will takes some minutes" (i translate as i can, i am french). It takes almost 3 seconds and mail open like it was out of box : empty
Is there a way to retrieve my mails???

I had the same problem. I followed V.K.'s advice, even though i had not read it, and looked for the files in my library/mail folder.
When I started mail after the update, it automatically set up one of my accounts, and then I manually set up the others. When I went to that folder, there were doubles of the accounts that I had set up with slightly different names - the new ones containing mail that I had revieved this afternoon, and the old ones containing the old messages.
I closed mail, copied the messages from the old inbox to the new inbox for both accounts, deleted the envelop index, and restarted.
The problem is fixed!

Did not backup. No Timewarp setup. Bookmark file exist, but other favorites still there, but all youtube favorites are missing from Bookmark bar.

Slow mail after upgrade

Hi,
I just upgraded to 10.4.6 from 10.3.9 and imported all my old mail into Mail 2.0.7. Upon opening Mail, I found it frustratingly slow - it would take minutes to consult or perform any action in the mail environment.
I browsed through various related topics on the discussion board and have speeded Mail up somewhat by deleting some files after following the thread "Some mailbox files used by Mac OS X 10.3 are not deleted after importing". However, this seems designed more to free up space on my hard disk (although I have more than 14GB available, so the problem isn't there) and not curing a slow Mail problem.
I imported around 5 thousand e-mails (I didn't lose any). I even tried putting my old mails into a seperate folder on the desktop so that Mail wouldn't have to churn through them, but this didn't seem to help.
Has anyone out there experienced this or have any idea what I can do?

re-built the mailbox as before...
That was to be expected. I suggested it just to be sure what the situation was before proceeding any further. You've jumped ahead too fast, though. The idea was to delete and recreate again the bad account only (after having made a backup copy), then quit Mail, rename the account folder moved to the Desktop and move it back into the Mail folder, replacing the new account folder created by Mail.
I then reinstalled Mail from the Tiger installation disk.
This could very well have been a really bad idea. If the Mac OS X version number of your install disks is less than what you're currently using, you'll have to reinstall the latest Mac OS X Combo Update now, as well as any Security Updates you had installed afterwards:

Do you have any third-party Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Mail/. Do you see a Bundles folder there?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. What do you see there?
Also, what exactly did you try in regards to cache cleaning? Did you try resetting LaunchServices in particular (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=487436#2364214, for example, for more info on this)?

Compleat system slow down after current updates

Has anyone learned why we all seem to have a compleat system slow down after the current set of updates? Everything works, but is VERY slow to respond. Even iTunes 7.1.1 plays video choppy now. Audio track plays fine however. Odd.

First of all, try repairing your permissions with Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility. Select the hard drive you're running off of and then click the Repair Permissions button.
If that doesn't work I'd do an archive and install:

Then run the combo update(s) instead of the consecutive ones. That seems to be working for a lot of people, but it will probably take a while.

Slow animations after ram update???

Hi everyone,
Last week I updated my Imac I5 from the standard 4GB ram to 12GB ram. (Added two 4GB ram bars). I use Lion.
Before the machine was superfast, now it still is but the animations go slower. (for example: switching to fullscreen apps goes "laggy". When I empty the bin. The prompt window pops up laggy etc...) I had a macbook pro before also with Mac OS X Lion, i updated the ram too and became also laggy. After a while it disappeared. For no particular reason.
Anyone else who got this problems? Maybe it has nothing to do with the ram update, i don't now. Please help me out.
(i did the latest firmware update last week)

I formatted the Imac, and installed fresh copy of Lion. No timemachine backup. And it all works like a charm.
The only problem is that I want to put my bookmarks of Safari back and my mail preferences + stored mails.
I looked in the timemachine backup folder on my disk but i don't find a thing. Please help.
I don't want to restore the whole computer because then it becomes very slow like before (firmware update caused this)

1080p no longer working correctly after Apple Update

I've been running my Macmini on 1080p into my LCD TV for well over a year now with no problems. Until this weekend. Seems to have happened directly after the latest Apple update I did. The problem is, when displaying on 1080p about a quarter of the screen is cut off! The screen height is fine, and the left side of the screen is also fine, it's just the right side that is cut off. I can see up to about the wifi symbol on the menu bar, the time for example is off the screen.
I use a minidisplay port to VGA adapter to plug into my TV. I changed the resolution down to 720p and that fits but I don't like using this resolution as everything is too big and it's also a little blurry. I need my 1080p back!
Any ideas??

I solved my problem with a workaround but the original issue is unresolved. I used an adapter to output to HDMI to my TV (2009 mac mini has no hdmi output) and now the screen resolution is correct. I am happy now.
However, it still does not explain why VGA output stopped working all of a sudden! I suspect some sort of change in the latest Lion update I did on the weekend.

Not able to use secure internet sites after Apple Update in WinXP

I used the apple updater after installing my Windows XP on my bootcamp partition, and now I am no longer able to log in to secure sites. I am unable to access my google account, this apple forum account, my Steam account, etc. I am unable to download updates such for applications such as Java as well. These things were working before I used apple update. I've tried going through all of my network settings and can't seem to find a problem. I've got my firewall turned off and my security setting set to low, but still no dice. I really, REALLY don't want to have to reinstall. That's an all day affair to get my machine back to where it is now, and I'd rather not waste the time if I can fix this problem instead. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I believe that the Apple Update was security certificates but my memory may be faulty. If something want wrong with that installation, then I can imagine that all your certificates were corrupted, which could cause problems validating that gmail.google.com is what it says it is, and so on, which would explain why it doesn't work. But keep in mind that I don't know what I'm talking about.
Have you tried using System Restore (Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore, I think) to restore the computer to a time prior to the Apple Update?

Startup Slow Down After Battery Update

Hi all, I just installed the Battery 1.2 update days ago. The startup speed changed to very slow after the update and thought it's just some effect after update, but after a few times of starting up the machine, it still the same slow speed. Any idea why?
Edit: Since I'm asking a question, let's ask more at once :P
I seldom turn off my laptop, many times I find that the folder name messed up, some times even gone, a folder without a name on it too. I turn off / restart every 2 to 3 days, is this the main reason?

System slow down after lion update 8/18/11

Has anyone else had a problem with their system slowing down after downloading the system update for Lion on 8/18? My system is not nearly as responsive and is only about two weeks old and have not installed any software other than Microsoft Office 2011 when I bought the machine. Any ideas?

Ok my system is booting and shutting down faster now.. This method worked for me:
First, I repaired the permissions:
1) Open up Disk Utility
2) Select your hard drive
3) Now select Repair Disk Permissions.
Then, I deleted the caches folder:
1) From the Finder's Go menu, select Go To Folder, and go to this folder: /Library
2) Delete everything inside the Caches folder (This might require the Admin Username & Password)
Finally, go to System Preferences and click on Startup Disc then click on your boot drive (In my case I've selected my HD labeled "Macintosh HD Mac OS X, 10.7.1". Now do a restart by clicking on the Restart button. If you don't have a Startup drive selected your mac will waste time at boot searching for a suitable boot drive !

Java Applet 6 crashes after Apple update in Firefox 8

After my update in Apple a day ago, my Java (6.0version) and Firefox 8 do not mix. I can't open a second window without Firefox crashing.
I have also "tested" my Java on the Java website and it says Java's working, then when I hit the back button, it crashes again.
I know other Mac users are having this issue using the OS X v.10.6.8. (Google it)
Now, Apple points the finger at Firefox, who all know about this "bug" and they in return accuse Apple of the Java release not working with their new Firefox. I am stuck in the middle trying to figure out a way to get this resolved.
Can someone please help? Who's fault is this? I would have not updated these two (which were working wonderfully before the upgrade!) So frustrating! I have included how to test the crash error:

This happens with Firefox 8.0 and Mac OS X 10.6.8 and java version "1.6.0_29"

Okay, funny how I don't know a whole lot about computers but I did quite a lot of research on this and found the fix for this Java (6.0) problem.
FIrefox said it probably was the Apple release of the new Java that conflicted with it's newest release, though I had to read about it on their bugzilla.mozilla.org website to find out more.
Firefox released a fix for the 8.0 (now version 8.0.1) to help with Java and Roboform platform on their FTP Server.
You can't do the update through "about Firefox" on your pull down tabs and click "check for updates" because that won't work.

A window with files will pop up. Choose your OS....Mac-for OSX users, then more files come on the next screen, Choose - "en-US" for US english, if that is your Firefox program version.
I hope this helps anybody who had this frustrating problem. I know Apple is committed to Safari browser but they wouldn't suggest or even give an probable answer about this and I had to scramble scratching my head to find the answer myself....sad.
