Slow Modem Speed Graphite Base w/Dial Up

I've had a graphite base station for a couple of months now. At first, the connection speed was comparable to the v 90 modem in the computer, but recently it started connecting at a rate so slow pages end up not loading, and mail gives me errors when trying to get mail. The signal strength is great, so I suspect the base station's modem is to blame. Is there any way to get the speed back up to where it was? Is this a firmware issue? I'm not looking for greased lightning, just the same old slow dial up speed I'm used to. Does anybody else have this problem or a solution (other than to buy a newer base station)?

Wouldn't the slowness through the ethernet connection to the base rule out RF? If not, what was the purpose of that test?
When accessing the Internet wirelessly, the speed is limited by the speed that data can be pulled from the ISP. If connecting via Ethernet results in the same slow speed then you know that the speed issue is between the ABS and ISP.
We don't have a phone that operates in that range.
Some of the wireless handsets that use 5 GHz also send some control signals at 2.4 GHz which would interfere with the ABS's wireless signal.
Have you tried changing the channel used by the base station? It is quick and simple to try.

    I have an A60 173 and the inbuilt modem 56KB runs very slowly.
    Typically a download of a driver from Toshiba's website will run at 5KB/s.
    I have read the user manual and have set all I can for optimum speed with no change being effective.
    Is this a fault with the modem?

    There's nothing wrong with your modem in fact the best you will
    ever get out of a dial-up connection is about 5.4kb/sec and upload
    speed of 3kb/sec. Modem speeds are quoted in kbits/sec not kb/sec.
    So the theoretical speed looks something like this: baud rate / 10 / 1024
    8 + 2 bits (10) used for the rs232 protocol or COM port.
    A 56000 baud would be approximately 5.46kb/sec (raw data).
    However this speed is reduced due to the nature of internet packets
    because each packet needs a header and will reduce the overall download
    rate. With packet compression techniques this figure may go up or down
    depending on what you are downloading.

  • Dial up account setting issue with graphite base station and ibook

    hello, I have spent hours and hours researching this issue. I cannot connect to the internet using my graphite base station and ibook. It seems to be a settings/configuration issue for my dial up account. what settings do I use? which account do I choose? Same as modem settings? is there a conflict somewhere? The airport card was checked at the apple genius bar, it's ok. How do i configure the base station? Thanks. What's with the paper clip deal? Is orange or green the preferred color?

    Anyway, how do you change the modem settings on the airport.
    You need to administer the Graphite using AirPort Admin Utility. To do so with a computer running Mac OS X 10.4, you should use AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5. First, join the computer to the Graphite's wireless network. Then, launch the utility, select the Graphite on the opening screen, click "Configure," and enter the Graphite's base station password. (Note: the base station password is not the same thing as your wireless network password and is also not the same thing as your dial-up account password.) The dial-up modem settings are found in the "Internet" pane of AirPort Admin Utility. In the "Connect Using" pop-up menu, select "Modem (V.90)" if your Internet Service Provider ("ISP") supplies a telephone number that is compatible with the V.90 protocol. The actual settings to enter (the dial-up telephone number of your ISP; your ISP account name and password; and (if necessary) DNS server addresses and/or domain name) are those specified by your ISP.
    Does this affect the dial up internal modem settings?
    No. The internal modem settings and the AirPort settings on your computer are found in different portions of the Network pane of System Preferences. The computer connects to the base station via AirPort, regardless of how the base station connects to the Internet.
    The internal modem settings on the computer, if they work, may be useful as a reference. The account name and other settings to use in the "Internet" tab of AirPort Admin Utility are the same ones that you would use on your computer if your computer were connecting to the Internet using its internal modem.
    What's with the paper clip deal?
    A paper clip is used if you need to reset the base station. See step 4 of Article HT2439 -- Resetting the AirPort Base Station (Graphite). (Note: the references in this article to AirPort Setup Assistant are out of date. You must instead use AirPort Admin Utility to reconfigure the base station, as well as to reinstall base station software, if you reset the base station.)
    Is orange or green the preferred color?

  • Help please: extreme card in 17" iMac with graphite base station SUPER slow

    I am at my wits end and hope someone can help me. I have a graphite base station that has worked perfectly with a TiBook for years...I just got a 17" iMac with an Airport Extreme card and it is having big problems. The symptom is difficulty connecting to the base station, and when it does manage to connect, it is really slow...we're talking about 300 KB per MINUTE. The signal strength shows 4 bars, and I confirmed with AP Grapher that the signal is always running 70% or more. The older TiBook meanwhile works great, as it always has. A peer-to-peer wireless network between the two computers (bypassing the base station) also works great. Wired connection to internet also great. So I suspect the problem is the communication between the graphite base and the Extreme card...though this is supposed to work fine. It seems the hardware itself must be OK because the base serves the old TiBook so well, and the peer-to-peer network works great too. I am well and truly stumped and hope someone out there can help.

    I am having what I think is a similar problem, although my problem is more related to a complete loss of signal. I am starting to think, from what I am reading in other posts here, that it is something related to 10.4.3, as the problem I am experiencing began after installing the 10.4.3 update.   • Slow Modem Users-Please Test Download Speed & Report Back

    Dear iMac G5 Users,
    Several of us have tested download speeds using our built-in 56K modems. Nobody has been able to get our iMacs to download at anything over about 29 kbps or 3.6 KBytes/sec. That looks to be about half of what is advertised. (No surprise really - I can only burn DVD-R's at half Apple's advertised speed). My old G3's modem will easily download at least 5.8 KBytes/sec or 46K. That's much more reasonable for a 56K modem.
    Could you users check your download speed at some place like: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and post your results here?

    I did the Speakeasy test from my home, and I got 24 kbps. However, this is the same speed
    I got on an iMac DV with its built-in modem.
    Yesterday I took my G5 iMac over to a friend's house; I wanted to test the modem
    speed from a better line, and to verify that the airport card worked properly.
    When I connected, Internet Connect app reported 50667 kbps.
    When I did the Speakeasy test, it reported 43 kbps. This location used to
    get 40000 on a Bondi iMac when it first came out (OS 8.1) so I figured this was about right.

  • WRT160N SLOW CONNECTION SPEED

    I have slow connect speed when using the WRT160N. I have tried every thing, done dianogstics on connection, router, modem, thru three diffeant software, norton, windows, system machinics. when ising the router some days the speed is amost like using dial up
    I use XP, on both a laptop desk top, up to date drivers, both cna use wifi or direct connection by cat 5e, 3 m of ram, a wimax internet server,,,,, (company called Bridge Maxx)
    But when I stop using the router and connect directly to the modem no problem works fine,,,,, not sure what to do........ just need my wifi back,,,,so i cna work,

    Whats the Version number of your Router, If you have having version2 router, then there is an knows issue with Version2 Router. Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
    This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firmware will not work on WRT160N V1.

    Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.
    Once you upgrade the firmware of your router, you need to Reset your Router and Re-Configure all the settings on it back again. Once you do the settings on your router i think this should solve your problem.

    Had my line fixed today by engineer (no dial tone).
    Download rate near normal but upload = 0.73Mbps!?
    I reset modem and router after he left and appreciate my profile is probably in need of some TLC after a weeks line fault, but is this normal in this situation? I heard it can take some time to reprofile my line and before it was fixed it was even worse at 0.10Mbps
    Just seems very low considered the line is now operational again.

    48Hrs+ on from residential line reconnection my business infinity 2 broadband upload speed is now approaching normal speed levels.
    What a 10 days that was all because some ass disturbed the cabling in the street cabinet!
    Yes I'm aware I have business broadband and am talking about it in a residential based forum, but my actual phone line is still residential that it is supplied over and the business broadband product is much the same animal as that supplied to residential customers i.e. Infinity 2 Unlimited. Only the mail and option of static i.p. appear different - that is all.

  • Graphite base station reverted to 40 bit WEP

    My Graphite base station somehow reverted autonomously to 40 bit WEP. It had been set up for 128 bit WEP with a 13 ASCII character password that yielded a 26 character Hex Equivalent WEP key when queried. (And the 26 character key was necessary for PCs to join the network.) In the process of adding a wireless multifunction printer to the network, I opened Airport Admin Utility to double check the settings, and found that it was showing 40 bit WEP, and now indicated a 10 character Hex Equivalent WEP key, apparently derived from the same 13 character ASCII password, since my MacBook Pro had no problem joining the network. I then tried to reapply the original WEP settings, but found that 40 bit WEP and None are now the only available security choices. I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11, though the base station was originally set up under Mac OS 9.2 running on an iBook G3. On the MBP I had Airport Admin Utility 4.2.3, which I updated to Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow v.4.2.5. However, there was no difference in the available security choices. Any suggestions on how to recover?

    Yes, it's definitely a Graphite base station. I bought it not long after AirPort was introduced, initially using it at my primary home with dial up internet on a wireless/wired network. I replaced it with an AirPort Dual Ethernet when I upgraded to cable modem internet. Later I installed the Graphite in my vacation home with dial up internet, then upgraded to DSL, on a totally wireless network, where it is adequate, if antiquated. So I have set it up three times, though the last time was several years ago. Each time, there was a choice of two WEP levels, maybe 64 and 40 bits rather than 128 and 40, but each time I chose the higher level. That was borne out by interrogating the base station for its Hex Equivalent WEP Key in order to get a PC access to the network, since the response was a 26 character Hex Key. More than one PC used that 26 character key to join the network. Now that 40 bit WEP is the only choice available in AirPort Admin Utility, when queried, the base station returns a 10 character Hex Equivalent WEP Key, though the 13 ASCII character network password has not been changed, and I have done nothing to change its configuration.

  • WRT310N Playstation 3 Slow Download speed and general lag

    Hey guys, I just recently bought the WRT310N and got both of my computers working with it. One is wired directly into the router, while the other is running off wireless. My Playstation 3 is able to connect to the router but I am getting an extremely slow connection speed.
    Right now, both PC's get about 6.4-6.5 Mbps download speed while my Playstation is anywhere from 600 Kbs to 1.2 Mbps. I have plugged in my Playstation 3 directly into the modem and got a speed of 3.2 Mbps and was downloaded a demo very fast, but I do not recieve anywhere near those results when using it wireless.
    Any advice? I have tried opening the ports, but that only seemed to slow it down. A couple of days ago I opened the ports specific to the game NHL 10 and for two days I was getting such a good speed in the game that it felt like I was playing offline, which was great! Then this morning, it just seemed do a complete 180. Now when I play the game I get an extreme amount of lag, and my other games like CoD4 get random lag spikes. Like, I'll be running and I get a lag spike which seems to happen fairly consistently every minute or so.
    Any advice? Should I try opening the ports again or what?

    I think you need to adjust the wireless settings of your Router, The wireless settings on your Router must have been setup to its default that's the reason you are receiving low signal strength on your PS3.
     Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
    Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
    Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
    Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
    NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
    Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
    Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

    Hi,
    I have had bt broadband opt3 for almost 3 months now and have always had a healthy 9mb+ connection, however have noticed it being very slow in the evening when I come home from work, I checked the speed last nite as iplayer was constantly freezing and was getting 1mb . A bit upset by this as I got bt broadband to play my ps3 online and to get faster speeds on my laptop, and I use these services mostly at nite.
    I checked my speed this morning and was getting 11mb, is this normal or am I being capped I cant believe Id be going over my download limit. Can someone from bt get back to me on this?

    Yes Alison, I think I can see that now. I wouldnt mind if broadband was a bit slower at peak times, I know thats normal, but when I'm only getting 1mb when my max is 14mb, I just dont feel I'm getting what I pay for. And when it gets to the point where I cant watch iplayer without it stuttering everywhere and online games lagging on the ps3, this is certainly not what I'm paying for.
    I was hoping one of the mods here would help me and check my line and see if there is any cap on the line and get it removed.
    I really dont wanna phone India, I deal with them 5 days a week as is...
    Think I will just send one of the mods an email to check my line and see if it is being capped or if somethings wrong.

    You will never get decent speeds on Iplayer,
    BT limit it because they want you to subscribe to their precious BT Vision service.
    The only way you are guaranteed to get decent speeds on BT is to subscibe to BT Vision and also unlimited broadband.
    Then you will get priority when you stream TV at your exchange unlike fighting it out with all the other broadband users as you currently are for the available bandwith.the more over subscribed your local exchange the worse it is

    I can take a look at the network side of things for you, to see if there is anything I can do to help improve your speed during peak periods. Please could you drop me an email with your BT account details? Please also include a link to this thread. It would also be very helpful if you could run a few speed tests using www.speedtester.bt.com when you feel your Broadband is running slow. I can then check those results from here.

    Well John i'll tell you what it is...
    First of all welcome to BT and I hope you'll enjoy 18months of pain and suffer.
    OK here it goes....
    If you look at your contract, find a rule that says Fair Usage Policy.
    Basically it states that BT will cap anyone that is abusing their lines.
    However, it does not say what are the limits after which you are going to be capped for how long and at what times. (I'll come back to this later and explain)
    If you ring 08007076044 I'm sure that someone will confirm my theory. As constant 1MBit between 6PM till 11/12 PM is actually FUP applied on to your account.
    Ok time to explain my frustration about FUP.
    Since I signed my contract with "lovely" BT for constant 4 months I had similar issue but it took me even longer to find out what is going on and how to deal with this problem (thanks to google).
    FUP team states that if you exceed 100GB in a month (everyone will admit that these days 100GB is nothing when a single game for PS3/XBox360/PC sometimes is more than 5GB and 1080p film is about 12GB) will cap you for a month at peak times to outstanding and superfast 1Mbit (about 130-150KB/s).
    I'be been watching my download and for few months never exceeded that 100GB in a month. Been ringing FUP team to verify when suddenly they told me that from (cant remember exactly) March FUP will apply only to accounts that are using Torrents and other P2P.
    you won't believe how happy I was hearing that.... So i've started to download and next month guess what.... 1Mbit connection.
    Really mad rang FUP team and asked them what on earth is going on. They confirmed that its only P2P and I've explained them that I only use Youtube, BBC iPlayer, Rapidshare, Steam and XBox Live, Beatport (just don't understand how ppl can use torrents and other P2P as they are just way to slow). So they were happy to take the cap off my broadband connection.
    Next month same issue solved exactly the same way.
    After that for consecutive few months I had no problem whatsoever until September where FUP Team said that there is no such thing and FUP applies to everyone.
    So just want to say that BT is rubbish that can't keep their word.
    I went to one of the sales advisor in the shopping centre and asked him how FUP works as it does not say in the contract "how, when, who and what".
    So he said that policy is applied based on amount of files downloaded within that 100GB. So if I download e.g. 3x 50GB (although its 150GB altogether) files I wont be affected but 100x 1GB will put a cap on me.
    I've been so curious if what he said was right and started to download 2x 60GB and guess what... Got frigging FUP placed on my account!!!.
    I've got 2months left with them and will be extremely happy to cancel my contract, moreover, I will do everything in my power to sue them under EU Consumer Rights Law (that states that contract should be clear and fair to both sides) as Fair Usage Policy is one of those things that allows BT to do anything they want to their customers;
    1. No clear explanation of what FUP is.
    2. Does not states the amount of downloaded data required to have cap on the acount
    3. Does not states for how long it will be applied
    4. Does not states when it will be applied
    If you look at e.g. Virgin Broadband everything is clearly written in nice and understandable way. It warns you at what times FUP will be applied under what circumstances and for how long. Isn't it what we all want to know??

    @Mateusz I think I maybe a victim of this outragous stint BT have done. I have 2 XBOX 360's running on XBOX Live, 2 Desktop PCs connected to the web constantly, and 3 laptops, we have a torrent sharing running and World Of Warcraft on one of the PCs. All of this is shared across a 6 person family. How can a family where two members goto to college and university do their college ork, download application such as VB.net do their coursework and revise without the hassle of a **** connection. Seriously BT get your ******* head outta your **** and stop this ********, we are customers, we pay for what we are offered. When I signed up several years ago I could download everything on the net woithout infracions on my line being set in motion. You altered my contract without telling me. You will lose custom from this. Also you have ****** my wireless

    You lot are lucky, We wish we could be capped to 1mbit. Our IP profile is capped to 500kbit because BT say the line isn't good enough for anything more. We are paying for option3 up to 8mbit and BT have said we must continue to pay for it for the remainder of the contract, or buy ourselves out of it early, the reason they give.... Up to 8mbit means up to 8mbit. If you dont get 8mbit then TOUGH LUCK SUCKERS!!
    The outcome? We feel like we've been turned over by a dodgey second hand car salesman called BT. The internet deal he flogged us was a dog, a ringer, it wasn't cosher and certainly had a false MOT certificate.

    Why have you joined BT Option 3 when you can not get what BT can offer?
    No pun intended but you are a bit of a sucker for paying high prices where other suppliers are cheaper and can provide what your line can support.

    we moved house last october to this one, the connection was rubbish from the get-go, BT said the router was broken and we needed a new one, we said OK. That "OK" meant that we had entered into a new contract for option 3 same as out old one. The router wasn't broken, the new one didnt fix or improve the problem, we have since asked for a price reduction or compensation and been told "no". we are in contract and can pay to buy ourselves out of it if we like but otherwise we have to pay for option 3 and recieve fixed rate 500kb.

    Hi Amanda,
    I think you'll find that the Hold To Term rules have changed. BT are now unable to charge you for the account if you no longer require it. It is against OFCOM's rulings for a company to make more money out of you as a leaving customer than an existing one. However, You will need to pay for the connection charge (if that has not expired it's original differed contract) which is £40. A cancellation fee of £25 if you are simply cancelling and not migrating using a MAC key and for any hardware. The Routers are advertised at £88 and i would suggest that if they believed on to be faulty then that would be replaced under guarantee and not be put on a differed basis. I would check exactly what they say the are charging you and query this through OFCOM. http://www.ofcom.org.uk/

    Months of impecable service form BT as an option 3 customer. (I've even recommended BT to people)
    but
    For the past 2 weeks peak traffic has murdered my connection.
    I can get 14mbit off peak, and it used to drop to about 7-9 at peak times.
    Now its down to 1-2mbit at peak times. (no i haven't breached FUP as I check my btinternet inbox for the 80GB warning)
    I think its resonable to experience drop off but 90%!!!
    BT advertising says fast speeds at peak times. less than 2mbit is not fast. (that the governments minimum standard!!!)
    I don't know how to procede because when I'm experiencing these issues if I ring up I will end up waiting so long to speak to someone (because its peak time) the concection wiill be better again.
    I can think of no recourse other than to approach trading standards...
    Guarnetee me 5mbit at peak times (enough to stream HD iplayer) and I'd be happy
    That is what BT vision customers are in essence are getting + what ever their PC is using.

  • Time Capsule with an Airport Extreme bridge resulted in slow LAN speeds

    Wondering if other people are seeing this. I am unsure if this was a result of upgrading both my TC and AEx to 7.6, but my LAN speeds had suffered in this configuration.
    1.  Comcast cable modem connected to the WAN port on my TC.
    2.  Connected an ethernet cat6 cable from the TC to my Airport Extreme, which was configured as a bridge.
    3.  My desktop was connected to the Airport Extreme.
    4.  When doing file transfers within the LAN or general internet usuage, my network speeds were extremely low.
    5.  Disconnected the cat6 cable from the TC and plugged that directly to my desktop.
    6.  Network speed jumps up by a factor of 5. LAN file transfers and internet usuage has returned to what I had expected.
    Is there a known issue where a bridged AEx conncted to another Airport "main" device will result in all machines connected via the AEx to have slow LAN speeds?
    I didn't see this issue months ago. I did less than 2 months ago upgrade our machines to the 7.6 firmware, but after experiencing some hiccups on the network, reverted back to 7.5.2.  However, the slow LAN speeds haven't gone away when the two airport machines are connected to each other.
    Any insight or advise is appreciated.

    By now, millions of users have updated to 7.6 and I cannot recall seeing a post similar to yours on this forum.
    As far as a "known issue", you would need to contact Apple regarding that.
    Suggest that you have the AirPort checked out at an Apple store if you have one near you.

  • Graphite base station not working with my Intel Based Mac Mini and iPhone.

    My Airport Express died after 2 years of use. I had to resort to plugging in my old but still functioning Graphite Airport base station. Since the set up assisant on my Mac mini does not work with the older base station, I used my G4 400 tower to set it up. I got it working and tested the connection. On to testing my iPhone. It sees the new network. Password is entered and the wifi icon shows full signal strength, but does not connect to the web. Next I try my Mac mini out on the new network and it too sees the network, but does not connect to the web. I double check the older G4 and the connection is still strong and fast. I shut the G4 down thinking that maybe the Graphite can only support one computer at a time, and the Mac mini and iPhone still can't connect to the web. I'm not sure what to do with this one. Is there a setting that I need to use? As far as security goes, the Graphite base station was set up with a WEP password. Any help would be great

    I suggest using AirPort Admin Utility (version 4.2) to check the base station settings and change them, if necessary. (AirPort Admin Utility should be able to configure a Graphite base station from a computer running Mac OS X 10.4, even though AirPort Setup Assistant can't.)
    In the Network pane of AirPort Admin Utility, please make sure that "Distribute IP addresses" and "Share a single IP address (using DHCP and NAT)" are checked, and that everything else is unchecked. I am assuming that the Graphite is the only router in your local network and that there are no computers connected via Ethernet.
    The Access Control pane of AirPort Admin Utility should list either all of the relevant AirPort ID's or nothing. You can find the AirPort ID of an OS X computer by looking at System Preferences>Network>Show:AirPort>AirPort.
    The Internet pane of AirPort Admin Utility should be set in accordance with your Internet provider's requirements. Most likely, it should be set to Connect Using:Ethernet and Configure:Using DHCP.
    After verifying the settings, power down the computers, base station and cable or DSL modem for a few minutes, then start them up sequentially, leaving time for each to get fully up and running: first the modem, then the base station, and finally the computers.
    The network preferences on the Mac Mini and the iPhone are also relevant. I assume that the preferences are unchanged from those that worked with the AirPort Express.

    as there is no modem in the mac book pro computers, how can i configure it to use while on holiday where the only connection is a dial-up?
    is there any way i can use an old airport base station i have as a modem to go through a dial up?

    Methinks the Airport base station is not going to work as a solution when you want dialup.
    What you need is a modem. Apple do a USB modem which is $49 (or whatever the equivalent is wherever you may be), but you ought to find this fast and check the settings before you leave. Trying to do anything on the fly like this always has its own set of problems.
    Other modems may work, but you need to think about compatibility between modem, computer and OS.

  • Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

    I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
    So, where is the problem??
    I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
    Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

    You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.

  • WRT600N slow wireless speeds

    I have a WRT600N router.  I have one PC that is connected to the router via a wired connection.  I also have an iPad (3rd generation) that is connected to the router via a wireless connection. On my PC, I went to speedtest.net and determined that I am receiving like 20MB downloads via the wired connection.  However, my iPad only gets approximately less than 2 MB download speeds.  I have tried reseting the router and I do have what I believe to be the latest firmware update (Firmware Version: 1.01.36 build 4).     I also receive the slow download speeds when I try connecting the other wireless devices.  I assume my problem has to do with some sort of configuration setting found in the router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1/).  Can anyone please advise me what to do?  The router is only a few feet away from my iPad so the signal strength is strong.  I just don't understand why I'm receiving such slow wireless download speeds.

    This may be due to the IPv6 feature on your computer. One of the solutions may be disabling IPv6. If the issue still exist after performing this step and download speed is fine when connected straight to the modem then reset reconfigure could work, just use WPA2 for the security with AES and a fixed channel for wireless.
